The Eagle Tavern at Little Coxwell in Vale of White Horse

We have absolutely no complaints re the service and facilities other than the slippery bath as a shower.. could be rectified with a rubber mat( especially for the more elderly guests) Bedroom… spacious, spotless and comfy! We had an evening meal which was utterly divine… The starter of cheese brûlée was highly original and delicious; followed by venison with the most sensational sauce( jus!). Dessert finished things off wonderfully with a Apple and blackberry crumble cake! Mark our waiter was most attentive. Two breakfasts were of the continental variety with plenty of fresh fruit; muesli; yoghurt; cheese; ham and a lot of fresh toast to include brioche! Full English was on offer but we were having lunch later so opted for the healthier course Maybe a cheese board could have added that extra dessert option The chef ( possibly owner) Marcel who hails from Slovakia was charming and clearly a most competent chef.

Ideal place with exceptional food: Michelin star in the middle of nowhere in tiny village, very friendly staff and excellent food and service - even when they delayed desert for a few minutes they instantly offered free coffee or tea. Very good and cozy atmosphere, worth travelling to eat in.

I mean…WOW although the menu looks basic, food was amazing, very fresh, and very good quality. I ordered the lamb and I have never tasted the lamb so tender, and my partner ordered the steak, and he loved it. This is gonna be my favourite place for now so far!! Only one FOH staff for the whole evening, and he was very friendly, managed everything very well, very impressed he has done everything himself no matter how busy is it.

Family of five meal out, between us we had 3 different starters - all of which were excellent, and 4 of the main courses (duck, fish, lamb, steak) again all of which were excellent, and puddings were also good. Service was perfectly paced, the restaurant was a bit more than half full. If I was staying in the area I would happily go again.

A beautiful quaint little pub in a lovely quiet village. I only popped in for a quick pint, however, it looks like a lovely restaurant.

Bit of a disappointment overall. Lovely place - pleasant staff. Arrived exactly 1.30 as booked and there were maybe 4 other tables occupied. Order was taken after about 5 mins. We heard nothing for the next 35 mins and then the food turned up. My suspicion is that they were sat under lights for a while as the lamb and beef were definitely not pink as advertised. The veg wasn’t so much of a medley but an embarrassment- one floret of broccoli, one floret of cauliflower, a tiny roasted carrot and a small slice of roasted parsnip. Only two roast potatoes and a mediocre Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was great and my boys licked their plates. Didn’t have the time to wait for any dessert and won’t be back.

I visited this pub with two friends. We had an excellent dinner, with well cooked food. The tables are in the bar, which perhaps could make it a bit noisy on a busy night. The staff were friendly and happy to allow us to stay chatting Until midnight. I stayed the night. The room was comfortable and quiet. The stay was rounded off with an excellent full English breakfast. All in all a great experience. Definitely recommend it, especially if you’re visiting Buscot Park, which is 15 minutes away the other side of Faringdon.

Five of us had a 3 course meal tonight. Absolutely gorgeous food, the brûlée cheese start was amazing and all of the main courses, chose 3 different ones were lovely. Also delicious puddings. Well worth a visit and will certainly return. Highly recommended.

Great Sunday roast and very baby friendly. We stopped here by chance for lunch after visiting Gow's farm and were impressed by the quality of the food and the 'can do' attitude of the waiting staff when faced with two babies.

A wonderful example or fine dining in a cosy country pub setting, with a roaring fire to match. The staff are w attentive but not invasive. Affordable for a real treat. We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

Wonderful little country pub set in a quiet little village. The only negative I can give for the pub is the lack of parking available. The food is very good and simply delicious with a very generous menu available, booking is best advised as the pub is very busy during its opening hours. Open fire, great selection of wines and beers. I haven't stayed in the rooms yet but I will do soon

A meal for the family to have a catch up resulted in us all going to The Eagle. The service was friendly and we received great advice on the choices. Beautifully presented . My only wish - that there was more choice for the vegans. Friendly and small areas to dine.

Very nice, the BEST gratin dauphinoise I've had for a very long time. Ace. Very nice duck dish, cooked well. I didn't need a pudding but when it came it was big!! And I ate it all, so what can I say, I recommend it too.

Went for Sunday roast. Tired interior, and very expensive for fairly bland average food. Had the feeling that it was once a fine dining and classy establishment, but that standard long gone. Good service.

Nice friendly staff, nice food but fairly expensive. Yes its good food but we've had better for less. This place is definitely not about a cheap meal though. Its a nice place where you probably should put some smart togs on, and go mix with the wealthy locals. Portions arent huge, but thats absolutely fine for me. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Herausragend ist natürlich die Blue brulee mit ihren toll angestimmten Aromen von zartem Blauschimmelkäse und fruchtigem Apfel gekrönt von Walnusscrunch. Unser Dessertfavorit war Makos Dios. Überraschend für uns:warm und voll Mohnflavor …mit dem Eis und den Kirschen- ein Gedicht. Fazit: wir müssen wieder kommen. Ein perfekter Abend. Vielen Dank!

One of our favourite places for dinner. The Eagle Tavern did not disappoint. We went there for our anniversary and it was perfect. Warmly welcomed by the publican and served a delicious meal with wine.

We booked lunch on Mother’s Day and we had one of the best Sunday lunches that I can remember. The food is fantastic quality, with great presentation and decent size portions. There were some really interesting options for starters, including a ‘Blue Brulee’ (a savoury take on crème brulee, made with Oxford Blue cheese) and delicious Langos ( described as a sourdough doughnut, not something I had tried before) served with a lovely light & fresh whipped feta cheese. The roast dinners were excellent – meat cooked to perfection and with a nice selection of well-cooked vegetables. We hardly had room for dessert, but we managed to share a couple of dserts between the four of us (including a delightful ‘Textures of Chocolate’). The atmosphere was really nice and relaxed, with great, friendly service. Thoroughly recommended.

Here for a little over a week on business trip. I’m currently on day 3 and I can say without a doubt that this is the best food I have eaten since arriving in England. Prior to this, was my food on the airplane, what game changer. To start, it has great curb appeal and the ambiance inside is amazing. Great place to take friends, a date or a casual business dinner with colleagues. Now for the food. I had the Lamb and ordered bread for the table. The lamb was cooked perfect, you can tell the chef takes pride in his craft. Broccolini was delicious and the DAUPHINOISE POTATOES were the perfect pairing for the lamb. Overall easily in the top 3 lamb dishes I have ever had. This is a close contender with the well known rack of lamb from The Blue Lion located in Jackson hole Wyoming. Made it a priority to write this review because this place has single handedly made my trip to England. Forgot to get names but thank you to the staff there at eagle tavern and compliments to the chef.

If I could, I'd give it ten stars! The food was hygienic and tasty and tidy, and I couldn't ask for more. I recommend having the steak (main) salmon (starter) and the cheesecake (dessert). ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

This is a genuine Restaurant with Rooms. We stayed for 2 days mid-week in mid-September. Little Coxwell is a very small village. The Church and the Eagle are the two main buildings there. The food is excellent. The menu is small, around 5 mains, all dishes home made and no burgers in sight. We had lamb one evening and plaice the next. Both were absolutely delicious. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for mid-week . Our room was spacious and we slept well. Breakfast is either Full English or Continental. Go for the Continental - you will be amazed by what you are offered. Service is faultless . All in all a great find.

Having a few days away in the cotswolds and found this place on the internet..Really organised re the covid rules.. lots of hand wash and had to leave our details on a website accessed via a qr code..Quite "cheffie" food and portions rather than traditional pub grub.. starters pate and a blue cheese savoury brulee.. mains venison with berries and a thick sauce and a chicken breast with mushrooms and tarragon.. only comment was the mash potato with the chicken a little more liquid than we like but otherwise everything really nice..Service great and felt like a treat rather than just grabbing dinner..For a bottle of house wine, 2 diet cokes, 2 starters 2 mains and a pudding to share total cost was about £75 ..Good value for food and service of this quality.. reccomend

I'm a foodie...I have high expectations and the Eagle Tavern exceeded them. As part of my job, I eat at some of the best restaurants in cities around the world and my meal at the Eagle Tavern was up there with the best of them. To top it all, the service and the atmosphere were perfect. I wouldn't change a thing! Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Cap parking is an issue within this hamlet, lucky this was a quiet evening. A table for 4 was booked in advance as usual and meals ordered. The evening started well the company is good then a dog started barking I like well behaved quiet dogs that can be seen and not heard.This spoilt a family celebration in future will be selecting a different venue.

The Eagle have been very ingenious by offering a takeaway service, which is every bit as good as you would get in the restaurant. It is amazing value and, if you haven't tried it, get out there now!

In late February 202, we ate at the Eagle Tavern after a day's walking around the Cotswolds. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and ambience. There were 6 of us and we stumbled across this little restaurant as most places in Faringdon were either completely full or closed, which then turned out to our advantage.This was a delight, with locally sourced food and interesting dishes. All served by a welcoming and professional waiter. We felt for the quality of food, it was priced reasonably. We recommend this restaurant.

We arrived early for dinner but the waiter was very accommodating and after serving our party drinks, informed us that the chef was able to open the kitchen early. As a family party of six, we very much enjoyed the quality of the food and the waiter's attentive service. One of the group was celebrating a birthday and he brought a complimentary Bailey's, a lovely ending to a great meal.

Hadn’t been in The Eagle for a while....no reason ...as beer and food had always been very good.So returned on a bitterly cold Saturday night....The pub was warm, welcoming, cosy and very tastefully decorated ....and featured two open roaring fires. A lovely reserved corner table by the fire was idyllic for a winters evening.Menus quickly received.....and we “poured” over the tasty courses on offer.Every dish listed, featured local produce and sounded truly delicious.We plumped for the Oxford Blue starter and Chalkdowns lamb main.....both incredible value and SO beautifully presented .....and both simply fantastic....delicious...tasty tasty tasty....We shared a lovely cheese and biscuit plate that was also interesting plentiful and delicious....and enhanced by a couple of glasses of a divine port.... !!!It was a lovely evening.....and we can’t wait to cross the A420 again very very soon.Excellent service and thankyou to the unseen team for providing a fabulous dining experience.We’ll be back .......very soon ....!!!

Ate here with my wife, new born and grandparents. As we had a pram we were accommodated with a bit of room which was no trouble. The service was very good. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The food was amazing. I tried a couple of the specials which I can recommend. The starter was a little different but I enjoyed it. We have eaten here before and will be back.

Just an amazing experience, beautiful food and wonderful service. The food is Michelin star standard and very reasonable for the quality! We were pleased to be offered a sensibly short menu that focussed on seasonal menu. We both had the potted rabbit with pickled cauliflower and mushroom, and toasted sourdough bread. for main course we thoroughly enjoyed a generous, chunky fish stew, and medium rare venison haunch and ragout- the accompanying seasonal veg: Jerusalem artichoke, cauliflower, cabbage and potato mash were skilfully cooked. The plated were wiped clean with more excellent bread. A shared generous plate of English cheeses followed. We are regulars at the Walnut Tree at Skenfrith, the The Poulett Arms at Hinton St George - today’s meal matched them for great tasty food, but beaut them with at a very fair price.. Thank you to The Eagle Tavern chef and front-of-house staff. Wish we lived nearer than 2-3 hrs away!

Heard good things about this place and went for supper last Wednesday. Immediately welcomed by charming gentleman and sat down at nice table. Fire lit, quite a few people, it’s not idyllically pretty inside but warm service more than makes up for this.

This is the second time we have spent xmas eve at the Eagle we first came in 2018. We found the menu very varied and well priced. Booking a meal two weeks before was easy and you are given good time slots. Dont expect lots of staff running around its not needed you are booked in and the barperson/waiter looks after you. The chef must cook individual meals and presenation is excellent. We were a party of 4.

Came in this evening with my cousin and his wife for dinner. We had originally planned to go somewhere else but this other place claimed they were too busy even though they only had 2 tables ahead of us. You fitted us in comfortably and saw to us quickly for drinks, seeing that we couldn't decide between a number of things on your tempting and mouthwatering menu. We shared a bottle of your chillean Pinot Noir which was lovely, for a light red it was full of flavour. My cousin had the Oxford Blue for starter which he enjoyed however only note would be that he wasn't sure on how the sorbet went with the cheese, thought it was too sweet. Myself and his wife both had the Lagos (whipped feta on home made bread) which was amazing. Totally not what we expected but so worth ordering! I think our server said it was native to Slovakia and you could tell the chef enjoyed making it. I had the chicken supreme for my main, stuffed with prunes and almonds with veg cooked to perfection. The flavours all worked so well and the chicken was still so moist. My cousin had the lamb which he said was the best piece of lamb he'd had in a really long time. Cooked very well, accompanied perfectly. His wife had the fisherman's stew which we all tried and I have to say it was definitely the winning dish out of the three. Flavours were incredible, was big enough as a stew to fill her up and she hopes to visit again soon enough that it will still be on the menu! Service was delightful and when I questioned the server about the chef's and their talents he seemed very passionate about the fact they like to display foods from their native countries yet using locally sourced products which seems to work very well. I wish I lived in the area to visit more often but I'm sure my family will and I certainly will when I come over again!

Four of us had lunch at this pub today. What a pleasure! It’s spotless! Warm welcome from very friendly staff, lovely comfortable dining area and beautiful background music set the scene for a most enjoyable afternoon. The food is out of this world, outstanding quality, excellent value for money. two of us had the superb roast lamb, one had the lentil curry and the other had the roast beef. Every meal was top quality, beautifully presented. I would highly recommend this tavern.

We cannot speak highly enough of the Eagle. Their food is innovative, beautifully prepared and cooked to perfection.
