The Eagle in City of London, Westminster

Being a Sam Smiths pub thought we’d get value for money. Taddy lager £6.70. Cider £7.60. Even the crisps expensive at £2.40. Had just been to Lords for the cricket and that was cheaper. Service great but won’t be going back.

I had previously giving this pub a glorious review but subsequently there has been a change of management and a complete change of staff, including the Chef and not for the better. We went in for Sunday lunch. Ordered the Beef which turned up floating in gravy with a minuscule amount of Vegetables. Suffice to say the Yorkshire Pudding and Potatoes were almost a moosh including the Vegetables which were overcooked. The Meat was chewy, overcooked and lacked seasoning. The waitress who also was behind the bar was too busy talking to her friend. We had to ask for more Horseradish Sauce and our cutlery, Salt and Pepper were given to us just before the meal was ready when she had ample opportunity to have set our table after we had ordered. This pub seems to have a quick turnover of Managers and staff. The previous Manager, Staff and Chef were excellent and the Roasts were sublime.

We saw the pub was offering Sunday Roasts. There is a brand new management on board and new staff. Before dining was very hot and miss. We ate in the dining room upstairs. We ordered the roast beef and were not disappointed. Beautifully cooked food, lots of it and nicely presented. So pleased we didn’t have a starter and we certainly couldn’t manage desert. The staff are friendly and helpful. Let’s hope this pub continues to nring in the customers.

So nice to see this place finally under new management - warm and welcoming combined with good food, proper bar snacks and a superb beer garden at the back!

The Eagle was taken over by a new young management team at the beginning of last week. Any reviews dated before their arrival aren't relevant. We were very pleased to see that the upstairs dining area has been re-opened and it is very pleasant indeed! The food was excellent, beautifully prepared and presented and the service was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back and we will be telling our local friends.

We went here on a Sturday night, early evening with Ace. As soon as we came in the lovely Italian barmaid brought out a jar of dog treats. There was a glowing real log fire and terrific tasting organic lager on tap. After a short while Ace got provided with a dring too. Thanks for a great evening.

I used to love this pub back in the day when it was the Browning and had great managers like Paul and Stevo who used to create a welcoming atmosphere which used to attract a crowd of cricket goers from Lords on match days. Now its like a morgue, which isn't surprising as the staff behave as if they'd much rather they were not there and your were somewhere else! Its a real downer for anyone visiting such a nice area who I'd seriously recommend find their way to the Alfred just up the road

The Gin and wine that is served is awful, garden and front of pub furniture is really uncomfortable, the garden used to be so nice with lovely plants now full of cigarette ends, this is my local and I hate going there. Every time they get a manager that shows an interest in doing something different Sam Smith brewery move them out, such a waste of a lovely pub in a really nice area.

We decided to hold my Nans wake here as we knew the pub from years of coming here with her. It was the perfect venue, nothing was too much trouble for Sammy and Charlie (pub managers) we hired the upstairs restaurant/bar space and had it all to ourselves. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We were really pleased with the price and felt that the service we received was just above and beyond. We felt comfortable and relaxed all afternoon/evening. I can not recommend this venue enough and we will definitely be back again soon. Thanks again guys for making our celebration of Nan just perfect.

Can’t say enough about the guys that run this place, they bend over backwards for you. My other half had to arrange a wake for her late grandmother and she was so pleased as was I, that she got in touch with The Eagle. We were offered the upstairs bar area with really beautiful food, buffet style for a very reasonable price. But you couldn’t but a price on their kindness and hospitality. Thanks so much Sammy and Charlie, we can’t wait to pop in for a pint and say hi next time we’re in town!

This beautiful pub is in my local area as I live literally 5 mins walk. I’ve been here twice lately and in both occasions I didn’t get the feeling of hospitality from the team. I used to come here a few years ago and the team was very welcoming. Lovely beers and ambience but hospitality needs smile! People go to bars/pubs to have good time.. otherwise what’s the point? I ordered a beer and a bag of crisps at the counter on the 20/06/21 at around 15.00 and I paid straight away. I said thank you to the bartender but He never replied. He didn’t even look at me in the eyes.. and when I asked .. do you have any space in the garden outside.. He replied I’m not sure with a very bad humour. The garden was completely empty and I’m sure He could have given a more welcoming answer. I’d better and buy a beer at the Tesco next door and drink it at home next time 😂 I don’t understand why people who are not welcoming and positive decide to work in hospitality. Smile.. Smile.. Smile... it’s so simple. This pub has a lot of potential.. but the team needs a boost of happiness.

I got served a drink with an insect floating in it. I went asking for a replacement. To my surprise the bartender instead tried to remove the insect pouring from one glass to another then gave it back to me. When I said I needed a clean fresh glass he refused.

Had a really nice time at this pub, staff were very friendly and helpful, great variety of drinks, good value for money and service was quick. Food was very good and really enjoyed the pub garden and being able to socially distance is great at the moment :) Will definitely return soon!

Great local pub and truly a heart of Maida Vale. Lovely staff and great mix of diehard locals and cool young people. Always a pleasure to visit.

Love this little gem in Maida Vale. It is unusual to have such a lovely local in the middle of London. The staff are super friendly and kind. The customers are always returning and it really feels like a local in a small village. The three managers are always friendly to new and old customers. Can go in and have a chat solo and can bring friends and family around. The beer garden behind is nice and really helped over lockdown. Favourite spot in Maida Vale

Came in for a quiet drink and was greeted by two lovely members staff by the name Olivia and James. I enjoyed a lovely burger and left quite pleased by my overall experience.

I have been in the UK 14 years. This is the worst place I have ever visited. Aside from the fact that the place itself is really not nice the staff is terrible. The waiter told me I cannot be inside with my 1 year old. No children allowed. Why ? Because they cannot wear a mask ? That I should sit outside. But it’s pouring down with rain ! Can you make an exception ? Response: it’s not my problem it’s raining ! omg ! I have never come across such rudeness. And FYI the place is empty ! There where two drunk, half homeless looking people in total ! I mean the place is empty, they should ask themselves why !

Nunca dejo malas críticas, pero la gente que trabajaba aquí cuando llegamos era muy poco acogedora y simplemente grosera. No tengo idea de lo que hace un buen servicio al cliente y, sinceramente, me sorprende que hayan sido contratados en primer lugar. Lo siento, pero una chica de cabello oscuro detrás de la barra en particular tenía una actitud muy pobre. He trabajado en pubs antes y mi equipo se habría horrorizado con el estado del personal aquí. Resuélvalo. El lenguaje corporal / tono de voz tiene un impacto enorme en cómo se siente el cliente. Ustedes realmente deberían tener eso en cuenta cuando sirvan a los invitados, no solo a sus clientes habituales.

Fui a este establecimiento a principios de este mes y, francamente, quedé asombrado por el increíble servicio al cliente brindado por las dos chicas morenas detrás de la barra. ¡Al instante nos recibieron con una sonrisa y un servicio rápido! También había otro jovencito, que llevaba gafas y nos proporcionó una comida excelente, que tenía un sabor fantástico y nos la dieron en muy buen momento.Entramos para utilizar el increíble plan de comida fuera para ayudar, sin esperar mucho, nuestras expectativas fueron superadas por completo.Este es un auténtico pub londinense tradicional, con una gran selección de cervezas y licores y un ambiente excelente.Recomendaría encarecidamente a cualquiera que esté buscando una experiencia londinense sin lujos que venga a este pub. ¡Conocimos a personajes tan increíbles y quedamos totalmente impresionados!

Tomó más de una hora para servir 4 comidas y, para ser sincero, solo sirvió 3, ya que todos los demás comensales habían terminado 20 minutos antes de que finalmente se entregara la última después de solicitar el reembolso. Guy llamó a James con cabello oscuro y anteojos, afirmando ser gerente (y mirando otras reseñas que otros han tenido problemas con él) salió y culpó al grupo por ordenar individualmente y le dijo a su cliente que deberían intentar cocinar a 45 grados de temperatura. Francamente, esta persona no debería estar en la industria de la hospitalidad, aprender algún servicio básico al cliente y si es como él dice, el gerente no está dando un buen ejemplo a su personal que dejó para tomar la queja. Lo mejor que pudo ofrecer fue que consiguió su comida, cuál es su problema. El servicio repugnante nunca volverá a ir allí. No es de extrañar que el lugar esté tranquilo si no puede atender un par de pedidos de comida.

I went there earlier this afternoon for a pint of Lager , cost £6.80!! Ridiculous Prices. wont be returning.

Had a fantastic night in a lovely pub but ultra aggressive barman ruined it with his behaviour I honestly had a lovely time in your pub. Me and my friends had a fantastic night, chatting as friends, playing pool and enjoying the company of the regulars. I have to say, our night was completely ruined by the behaviour of one your employees. The way that the guy you employ who has brown hair and glasses treated us as customers who had been in your pub since 6:30pm having a good time, in an absolutely disgraceful manner of which I don’t wish to go into. I mean no bad feeling to you as an establishment but I was honestly disgusted with th what I was treated tonight. I wish you well

After calling in on my way home from dinner tonight for an evening drink and having our phones on... no internet in the pub... what the?.... we were sitting quietly at our table and the bar waiter came over and informed us that it was a mobile free pub zone. After she said that we did notice a sign saying same that we had not seen. However after she returned to behind the bar we noted that she had her phone beside the till and was constantly checking her phone. After some time she put a book up close to the till and eventually put her phone into the book where it remained while at the same time getting her bag ready to log off.... not happy.... how hypocritical. Surely if these rules apply to patrons they apply to staff. Also when leaving a patron was on his phone in the foyer and the lady at the table next to us had her phone on the table the entire time. I have photos if you want them.

I cannot comment on the bar area as we were here for lunch and went upstairs to the dinning room. There initially was a misunderstanding but in fairness they did put it right. One small little point if they know that the cricket is on they should be better prepared.

The food is outstanding great portion size exceptional staff a must place to go!!! Will deffo be returning can’t wait !!

Muy buena comida recién preparada con una amplia selección en el menú y una amplia gama de cervezas artesanales y definitivamente recomendaría las cervezas de frutas orgánicas y el personal es muy amable y te hará sentir bienvenido definitivamente regresaremos más en el futuro

Great traditional pub serving a good selection of Samuel Smith beers. New management -Martin and Claire are very friendly and welcoming. Nice beer garden to the rear. Food was excellent. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Pub real dirigido por nuevos gerentes. Claire y Martin tienen un verdadero sentido de hospitalidad y una actitud positiva con una sonrisa. Algo único en estos días. Cricket ha mejorado los tocones ahora durante el año junto con algunos de los asistentes que hacen que toda el área sea una experiencia bastante desagradable. Pruébalo, no te decepcionará

Went for a pint with friends after cricket and the landlord closed the pub at 9.00pm - when politely challenged he told several punters to get lost - incredible attitude unless some ulterior motive to run business down

Visité este pub solo porque el pub de Windsor Castle está cerrado después del partido de prueba en Lords cerca. Solo se ofrecen dos cervezas. Vasos de plástico! Posiblemente el arrendador más rudo que he encontrado. Se quedó como un mal olor diciéndoles a todos que dejen de divertirse. Cerró el pub completo a las 9. 00 pm un sábado por la noche y comenzó a prohibir a cualquiera que desafiara su actitud beligerante. Le dije que debía ser el peor pub de Londres y él estuvo de acuerdo. Trágico.

Pequeño gran pub para pasar el rato! Visité varias veces aquí durante mi viaje a Londres en noviembre. Agradable y acogedor: la chimenea y la diana son importantes ventajas. Buena selección de cerveza (vino y licor también disponibles) y buena comida, hecha en casa por su talentoso chef residente, Chris. Los camareros, Scott y Will, fueron super amables y atentos. Nunca tuve que esperar por las bebidas. Un ambiente tan suave y rústico, perfecto para los días tranquilos de invierno. 10/10 muy recomendable!

Went to a big gathering upstairs and had a full bar and food. Was nice and cozy and the staff was very attentive to all the guests. Had a great time.

Vivo en el área y he estado en este lugar por algunos años. Recientemente contrataron personal nuevo, especialmente un barman joven y maleducado que claramente no debería estar en el área de servicio al cliente.

Vivo en esta área y mi familia y yo hemos usado este pub por más de treinta años. Actualmente estoy embarazada de cinco meses y me preguntaron si podía usar el baño rápidamente. El hombre detrás del bar dijo que los baños eran solo para clientes. No me importaría, pero había un cliente (masculino) en todo el pub e incluso él se rió de esta respuesta. Si esta persona no puede utilizar la deserción cuando se trata de un cachorro vacío y una mujer embarazada de cinco meses, no tengo muchas esperanzas para su experiencia en el pub. No es que me sienta con derecho, pero un 'cliente solamente' sin clientes es un poco ridículo en mi opinión.

Estuve en este pub hace 25 años cuando vivía en Clifton Gardens por un semestre, así que tuve que volver para los recuerdos. A pesar de que tiene una nueva administración, mi marido y yo disfrutamos del ambiente acogedor y la amabilidad del barman. El amargo y el fuerte fueron geniales. No muy impresionado con la comida del bar, pero me gustaría probar una comida tradicional del domingo allí en algún momento.

This is a great pub, traditional style, real wood-burning fire (not fake gas variety), friendly and happy barman, in a very nice and peaceful part of town, close to tube station, interesting selection of Sam Smiths beers. Strongly recommend.

Had wanted to try the lamb shank but was out of order so had the bangers and mash instead which was good as well. Nice atmosphere and very helpful staff and overall a good experience and will come back again.

Recientemente, se han mudado, mi esposa y yo estamos probando nuevos lugares. Paramos en el Eagle el viernes pasado y nos alegramos de haberlo hecho. La selección de cervezas era genial, así que decidimos cenar. Ambos pedimos el pescado y patatas fritas, que era muy bueno y a un precio razonable. Tienen un menú variado, así que sin duda hacen de este un lugar normal para la cena.

I love this pub. Every time i go to London i go for at least a couple of pints here. Great selection of sam smiths beers/lagers, great staff and when the weather is nice a great beer garden front and back.

Gran experiencia, Me organizaron mi fiesta de cumpleaños en el segundo piso. Las cerveza, la buena comida, tráelos ya sobrepase y el servicio, era absolutamente fantástico. El pub ha cambiado drásticamente desde que el nuevo director tomó más de un par de años atrás. Altamente recomendado con amigos y/o incluso con los niños para un asado los domingos. Super cosy and has good beer selection especially their organic lager is super. There is always enough space for chilling. I love it!!!

El lugar ha sido tomada por la nueva administración y se ha mejorado mucho desde mi última visita, creo que la nueva pareja ha estado en un par de semanas o así, ambos son muy amable y claramente tienen buen conocimiento de la rubia. Visita muy agradable - muy recomendable!

Está bajo nueva dirección con una pareja encantadora que realmente hablar con nosotros. Muy amable, el ambiente tranquilo, impresionante edificio con mucho carácter y características originales. Es muy bonito y acogedor con esparcidas por los incendios. Los precios son razonables y una enorme variedad de cerveza! Incluso hacer buena comida, le defeinately volver.

No me malinterpretéis, el Eagle es un pub muy decente para unos tragos. Es tranquilo, tiene una bonita chimenea y las bebidas están a un precio muy razonable. La comida, sin embargo, es más que una broma.

Located in a somewhat residential area in Maida Vale, the pub/restaurant recently purchased by a young couple whom we met the first visit. They and the staff were very welcoming and explained the ales, lagers and stouts on hand. Pleasant, comfortable ambience inside with what appeared to be some regulars quaffing away. Since the pub was close to our rental apartment, we decided to visit for dinner. We were told the kitchen opens at 7:00pm. We drink a few beers and waited. At 07:15pm we inquired about getting something to eat, assuming the kitchen was now open. Response: Oh sorry, the cook didn't come in today. There will be no kitchen service. Someone could have told us, knowing we were sitting right in front of the barman and waiting 1.5 hours.Those locals by the way, drunks...slobs. Probably won't return. Cheers.

A new young couple took over the pub in the summer and the general view in the area is that everything is much improved. Courteous and speedy service. Food well-cooked and presented.

Atrocious staff! Ordered a Bacon and Stilton sandwich on thick Malted Bloomer; got a bacon and cheese toast is on medium cheap brown bread. After commenting to the bar lass she just keep repeating in a dismissive attitude it's not her fault and there is nothing she could do. Upon asking to speak with the manager, the staff member reappeared and threw the cost of my sandwich down on the table an walked off, only to reappear again telling me it wasn't her fault. My friend ordered the fish cake which was very expensive and mundane at best!Will not be returning!

A total let down. The Eagle and its customers are in need of a total makeover. The motley regulars are poor, poorly dressed, sad, older drunks. No families go in here. Nor do they linger while walking by.This pub possesses a beautiful exterior and sits on a quaint neighborhood high street. It is a shame.

Now this is a lovely old pub, quiet and relaxing, but......and it is a big 'but' too!Being a Samuel Smith pub its simply boringThe same old range of beers, cider, wine and spirits, nothing exciting or challenging....it's simply not very interesting.The food is....average......well cooked and I suppose value for moneyHowever would I want to return? I was part of a booking of over 30 people who pre booked for a sit down 3 course meal. This is a Sam Smith's quiet pub, the setting is beautiful, a real old fashioned elegant pub with a roaring fire and French window views over the heart of Maida Vale. Hopes were high for a lovely evening. Unfortunately, the first sign of trouble was the presence of cloudy half pint water glasses and the absence of wine glasses. We asked for wine glasses and wine - there were not enough wine glasses available for the whole party but after some searching some much smaller mismatched glasses were found from somewhere. The next problem was that there were only actually five bottles of white wine available to us in total! Which ultimately wasn't the problem we had at first thought it would be as the wine was appalling. The meal commenced at around 7pm and the dessert was served 2.5 hours later. The meal was served sporadically by a maximum two staff member and took up to half an hour to serve each course, food was served on mismatched and chipped plates. desert was served initially without cutlery. meals were served by at least one member of staff shouting out "who ordered the ......" I was served a Yorkshire pudding that channelled the spirit of Mel Gibson in Braveheart and refused to give in to attacks from my cutlery, it was also burnt!. A colleague was served a fine slice of shoe leather masquerading as beef. In short the company was entertaining, the surroundings were beautiful the meal was atrocious. If you won't a quiet drink and are happy to drink Sam Smith's own brew then go ahead but if you want a meal for a large group this is not the place for you. Shame. Won't be going back

Was in the area with a friend and came across this delightful place. Lovely pub, plenty of character, and there is a dining area upstairs which is also full of character. We very pleasantly surprised by the food. It was very tasty and good value. We were surprised there wasn't more people there when we went as it really is a gem!

Looks like it has lots of interesting beers and a nice garden but on a Tuesday lunch it was dead. Fishcake starter pleasant but a bit dull. Uninspired

This pub had the best beer that we tasted in our three weeks in London and surrounding area. Organic beers and we tried several different ones and all were delicious. The pub itself is a classic but with added touches, a real fireplace which was welcome in the chilly March evening and lots of banter between customers and the bar staff. We came for drinks and had some appetizers which were very good but the highlights were the pub itself and the beer.

I went for a weekend lunch with 2 of my kids. We had 3 greek salads which were excellent.The main thing tho was that there had been a problem with our initial order which the manager immediately addressed with good humour and refused to take payment. And he did this in a way that did not feel awkward. An outstanding example of commitment to delivering good customer service.We will definitely be back.
