A lovely Mother’s Day meal for our family of 5, the bar was really welcoming and Nicole was absolutely fantastic in making our experience special and tending to our every need! Will be back soon thank you all!

Fabulous first visit, will definitely return. Lovely ambiance, excellent service and delicious food. Alex (Jnr.) must get a special mention for his attentive service and attention to detail. The menu is vast, something for everyone.

We haven't been for a while. In fact, it's been a few years now. The food was delicious, albeit the menu was a little confusing. Friends had the cod, which didn't come with any vegetables. It could have been an oversight on their part. The service from the staff was really good and they were so helpful. However, the toilets were disgusting, and although there is a register on the door for cleaning, I doubt it happens. The ladies' toilets were as apparently as bad. Great atmosphere and a lively place.

We went for a drink on Saturday afternoon. Lots of people in the pub watching football, so a great atmosphere. I enjoyed the Wainwright Gold and the Hobgoblin IPA.

Lovely pub. Good food. The only issue we had was the chef forgot that one meal had a special requirement (dairy allergy) so the meal had to be prepared again. Not great when three people are eating while the fourth looks on. Mistakes happen and I’ve every intention visiting the Durham Ox again.

Alex was fantastic. Understands the importance of customer service. Food was great even though pub was busy. Please keep quality high as I'm sure we will be back. Please open more pubs in the group. I like them all.

Alex’s customer service is excellent, he’s very attentive and goes above and beyond. E.g. coming from behind the bar to ask me if I’m waiting to be served (when I’m waiting to get to the bar but there’s people standing there and talking). We like the Durham Ox, nice local, friendly pub, great food, good singer on a Saturday evening. Just what you need as your local.

Had a lovely meal at the Durham Ox and Alex couldn’t have been more attentive.

Did not eat as we just happened upon the pub and only wanted a drink. Lovely friendly atmosphere great beer and different shape of glass for Hobgoblin beer! Glass of prosecco very refreshing. Loved the decor and collection of retro mirrors. Definitely worth a stop.

The best chips I've had, great and friendly staff. We will definitely be back for a proper meal! Lovely cosy pub and a pub garden out the front.

Was passing and popped in for food. Staff were brilliant and got us a table. The food was brilliant and priced right fo r the quality. Emily was the best it was so good we stayed for 3 courses and drinks. Loved the place, it reminded us of good old English country pubs.

went for xmas day dinner, 5 course pre-ordered meal, food was lovely, interior very cosy, we had a few minor issues with the food orders but was kindly compensated. special shoutout to victor who made sure we were all comfortable and kept us laughing, great energy from him. overall lovely place to spend xmas dinner.

Food and drinks were good and the pub/ restaurant was very clean and a real nice place to be in. The young waiter that served us was very polite and pleasant. And here’s the “but”… they put a 10% service charge on the bill without advising or adverting this, so I won’t be going there again anytime soon.

We were seated in the bar area rather than the restaurant where people were stood drinking in their dirty work cloths and using bad language. This wouldn't usually bother me in the slightest, but since there were children around, this was unacceptable, and the bar staff didn't seem to care. 2 of the items on the menu were unavailable so had to choose alternate options, when ordering the main course i asked if they would reccomended any side dishes to go with the mains but was told it wasn't necessary. When the food arrived, the portion sizes were tiny! It tasted ok but nothing special. Anyway we left hungry and won't be rushing back any time soon

Nice food and atmosphere , . Go fairly regularly. The dogs are all well behaved in this pub as an animal lover it is a lovely to see them having a nice time and being looked after. This pub is for them to food is great especially the Sunday roast . Staff are always pleasant nice bunch all in all

We came to you today for my mum birthday. We were looked after by a young lad but mainly by Alex. He was an absolute delight, spoiled us all & your Chef’s food was amazing. We throughly enjoyed our few hours at the Durham Ox today.

This pub seems to have all the ingredients that could turn it into a great pub, however the management are not managing! On the afternoon we visited the place was more like a dogs home, there was a dog sprawled across a sofa chewing a bone, another very large dog which did not have a collar was roaming around the pub trying to get food that had been left on plates that had not been cleared away. There were a group of men standing at bar, they all seemed drunk and openly swore, this behaviour in front of children is so wrong. The bar staff seemed oblivious to what was going on or for some reason did not want to challenge the situation. We went to the Durham Ox with the intention of having a meal, however our group of 6 quickly decided to visit another pub in the area for our meal. I must ask; Why do you let this out of control dog culture continue? I hear that Shrewley residents no longer visit the pub and are just waiting for it to change hands and return to the well managed pub it used to be. We will not be returning to your pub anytime soon, I just can’t understand why you allow such a deterioration of your pub when if managed correctly it could easily be the great pub everybody wants.

Lovely dining pub with a good menu. Plenty of car parking. Friendly staff who made you feel welcome! The food was excellent with a comprehensive menu and wine list. Definitely returning.

Only ever had a drink here, there was a large group of people that came in early on Sunday who asked for Sunday lunch, adults & kids around 15 - 20 of them. They were advised they couldn't accommodate them as the dining area was busy, but it wasn't, they all left very disappointed on remembrance Sunday. Heard this before though, not great with the customer service

We had a family get together - 7 of us. The food was amazing. All great quality including very generous portions of fish and chips. The kids meals were also a really good size. We had Alex as our server and he was extremely attentive and went over and above to ensure we had a really lovely lunch. Im also gluten intolerant and so due to cross contamination he picked up on this before it was brought out. He also was very apologetic and made up for us.

I had high hopes for The Durham OX, especially with its stunning décor and charming atmosphere. Unfortunately, the experience fell flat from the moment we walked in. The staff seemed utterly miserable, which cast a shadow over the whole meal. Service was painfully slow despite the restaurant being half empty. I ordered the pork belly, but it was a massive let down. The bottom was dry and hard, while the crackling was disappointingly soft and rubbery. Portion sizes were much smaller than expected; this was not helped by the most significant plates I have ever seen, to the point they only fit on the table with having to remove half a log placed on the table. I chose not to complain, as the general malaise from the staff made it clear that feedback would likely fall on deaf ears. It’s a shame because the venue promises so much, but the reality is quite the opposite. Sadly, I won’t be returning.

Sunday lunch was really poor I’m sorry to say. The pub looked lovely and expectations were high but it did not deliver. £19 for a plate of lukewarm food with very meagre portions was not what I had hoped for. 1 parsnip, 1 carrot, 3 potatoes, 2 sprigs of broccoli a Yorkshire filled with oil and fatty poorly cooked beef . It took an age for the food to come to our group even though we had preordered and the pub was not busy . No one checked to see if everything was ok. We all eat because we were so hungry … and I left hungry. I would not revisit.

By far the best Sunday dinner we've had this year. We visit many village pubs and restaurants for sunday dinner. Food was delicious, great value also. Will certainly be returning.

Friendly pub with a great atmosphere. The steak & ale pie was up there with the best of them. They also have a good reasonably priced wine list. Lots of parking and easy to find on Shrewley Common with lots of road side signs. Highly recommended.

First time at Durham Ox. I ordered Steak & Ale pie which came with a lot of mash and 4 pieces of broccoli. Sadly the pie was perfectly round which raised my concerns which sadly were proven correct as I opened up the pie. Price was good but I’d rather have paid more to get fresh food.

Wonderful food yet again. I had the super salad with salmon, absolutely tasty! Karl had the pork, he thoroughly enjoyed it. Karl had the Neckoil and I had Melbic. Fab.

So I attempted to contact the pub by email about a concern i had but nobody responded so tried again and still no response, my reasoning behind my concern was regarding glasses being taken outside for obvious reasons, however the particular day I attended there was an elderly couple who had proper pint glasses and when I asked how they were allowed I was told that it’s because they work here!! The rules are the rules as far as I’m concerned but not at the Durham Ox it’s a two tiered system!!!

We just had the most wonderful wedding at the Durham ox Andy is a Awsome manager and his attention to detail was incredible. Big shout out to the whole team

Lovely place, lovely young woman who always serves us is amazing. However… the new manager who goes by the name Aaron (presuming) is surprisingly rude. Lemonade tasted like soda water and didn’t want to sort it out. Unfortunately he tried to tell me that it’s how it is supposed to taste. However, our lovely regular server personally sorted us with 2 fresh lemonades and brought them over. What a lovely sweet hearted woman she is.

We had a great time here with some lip smacking flavours and fab service by Georgia ! She was so pleasant, professional and polite.

Cosy country pub with an array of dishes to choose from. A little pricey but the atmosphere and the kind attentive waiting staff made up for this. Ideal for a group gathering for a celebration, or if you are looking to treat yourself for a nice comforting meal.

This was our first visit to The Durham Ox for years and it really didn’t disappoint in any way. Food was excellent as was the service. Georgia looked after us for the most part and was knowledgeable and friendly. Portion sizes are generous. In addition it is a great location with huge outdoor space for food and drink. We will be back.

Ordered larger shandy only to be told no lemonade. Tried for larger and lime, no lime! There is a shop next door where staff could have purchased with. Tried to order belly pork, not available. Went for bream fillet, that was also off. Settled for pie of the day. It was a small portion for a very high price. Would not recommend. Sorry

Booked the Durham Ox for a special celebratory lunch. We loved the restaurant layout, plenty of space between tables and the semi-circular booths made it feel quite private. The outside seating area and grounds are lovely as well. The food was fabulous, the chicken tacos and korean chicken bites were so tasty and not what you normally see on a pub menu. 2 of us had steaks and they were excellent, cooked exactly as we'd requested, and the pork belly was outstanding. Some of us did manage puddings, and the chocolate tart and Biscoff cheesecake were a scrummy way to end the meal. The staff were brilliant, warm and friendly and able to respond to any queries that we had about the menu. We had told them at the time of booking that we wanted a long leisurely lunch, and they never hassled us to order or to bring the next course, but regularly made sure that we had drinks and checked that everything was OK. Our celebratory lunch was perfect in every way, thank you to everyone on duty that day.

Beautiful pub with a good range of beers in a lovely location. Friendly service and great facilities. Would have been 5* but have been trying to contact them regarding booking of their teepees for our wedding reception, but still no reply 😕

This is a big and well run gastro pub. Oodles of car parking, clean and authentic and original 17th century buildings. One well kept beer which was very enjoyable. We had the burger and fish and chips which were both excellently cooked, generous in size and speedily delivered. Staff were friendly, genuine and really good. All in all it was a real pleasure to visit and we will be back again.

We were in the area and found The Durham Ox by chance, lucky us. Had a leisurely dinner al fresco in the large garden. Plenty of choice, food delicious, staff attentive, friendly and professional. Wish we could have stayed for the live entertainment! Will definitely return.

Sunday lunch with our family to celebrate Ruby Wedding Anniversary and Birthday. Bottomless Sunday Lunch was excellent, very attentive staff, nice setting and the grounds were great for our grandchildren and grown up children to have fun. Lovely chilled day - thank you.

Love the atmosphere and food here. The new menu is really really good . I had the schnitzel last night and I had the chicken tacos this morning for brunch. 👌👌👌 Even though the football was on and it was really, really busy, service was still good . I was a wedding guest yesterday. I have to say I would highly recommend the Durham Ox to anyone.. Food was amazing, staff was on point nothing was too much trouble. Great atmosphere. Loved the outside. Good seating outside. Great place. Thank you The Durham Ox.

We really needed food after a hard day working up the Hatton flight of locks and the Durham Ox was exactly what we needed. Excellent food and service

A group of 18 of us went there for lunch on a Wednesday. Due to the size of our group all of the food was pre ordered. Apart from our group there were not many other apparent customers. Even though the place was not busy we had to wait quite a while for our meals. However, it was worth the wait as the food was excellent.

One of the best outdoor spaces for a cheeky summertime drink ,good staff, good outlook, lovely pub.

Shocking service from being ignored at the bar, waiting 45 minutes for a sandwich and cold fries, told the food was on the way but it was a lie waited a further 20 minutes. The first visit a year ago was awful thought it might have changed, it’s got worse, we won’t be returning! Told there was various items off the menu and at the end over heard some other unhappy diners they had a chef off, on a bank holiday…!

Great service if only the clientele had manners. Barman was exceptional under duress. A shame, used to be a great pub.

It was a nice sunny day when i went so sat in the lovely garden with great views. 5***** Went back again the weekend 13/11/22, again food was great, service as expected top notch, Came here again 30/09/23 very nice again had the steak and mustard on a flat bread sandwich which was really good and more filling that you’d think. Came back again 20/04/24 as expected another great meal with an hour or 2 of sunshine in there lovely garden

Such welcomeing staff,I joged up there that part of the village,I find the place comfortable ,with ample parking ,nice . There was a good price ,also it's at a high standard , the price for alcohol none alcohol was good cocktails to.they also have a out side part.in the summer time.to relaxe, I find this place to be a friendly family place.also, they don't think that you bring your dog.they seem very animal friendly, which is a tick.

Lovely local Pub for Sunday meal. We had a really good time. The food was absolutely tasty, our kids literally finished off all of their pastas. I had the Spicy Chicken Burger, it was amazingly moist, lovely! Not to forget the staff friendly and helpful, thank you guys 🌹🌹. Beautiful place for family gathering or even a couple's Day or Night date. Good range of cocktails for cocktails lovers 🍹🍸 sip sip horrayy! Suggestion: Pre-booked tables for future reference to all new customers to avoid disappointment, especially on Sunday service as they get very busy with details allergens or food intolerance if you have any specific dietary requirements. Pssst!! They do bookings for weddings or any other special occasions too! Amazing!

We went there for Sunday lunch and to celebrate my Daughter's birthday. We waited an hour for the food and when it finally arrived the vegetables etc were lukewarm. While they offered to warm the plates up, we simply wanted hot food - surely not too much to ask for. More vegetables were eventually provided - this time they were hot. We then ordered more drinks but they did not arrive. (I have to say that although there appeared to be sufficient staff, the service overall was poor). So, rather than stay for a desert, we decided the best route was to ask for (a discounted) bill and leave. Having had previous poor experiences at the Durham Oz, we have decided never to eat there again. All in all, a most disappointed experience. At least we learnt our lesson. We should not have gone there in the first place!
