The Dunes Restaurant & Bar in Aberdeenshire

Wow …. let down by the restaurant today ! Had booked for a special lunch for a visiting family member for something nice! Service was poor at best and food …. Of our several choices nothing was left and this was before 4pm on a sunday…. After 15 mins (and a fairly empty restaurant) i had to ask someone to take our drinks ….. then after another 15mins had to ask someone to take our food order (of which several members of staff had walked past several times!) - in the end we left and went to a close pub - at least they were happy to serve and had options available …

This is an excellent restaurant in a beautiful setting. The scenery is bucolic. The staff (Kinga and Dougy) were highly professional, friendly, discreet, and incredibly attentive. The food was exquisite. We had sweetbreads, scallops, venison, and steak. All were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented, as were the desserts. All in all, we had a marvellous evening and will be back.

Came here for a family meal , 2 kids meals and 2 burgers plus’s 2 cheesecakes came to £120 . So although the food, staff and atmosphere is great the price is just way too expensive for what it is. £19 for kids set meal is just too much . Shame as if it wasn’t for the price we would definitely made it a regular place. £70 would have been more of an acceptable price for that type of meal.

We came here for lunch and it was really good. The service was first class. The food was delicious. It’s quite expensive dining but you pay for good quality. We will definitely come back again.

Totally enjoyed our lunch at the restaurant. The menu is extensive. We had the Cullen Skink and Club Sandwich. Comfortable settings with lovely service. Shout out to Louise, Olivia and Hannah for their warm and attentive service.

A culinary gem at Trumps in Balmedie…. The Dunes is an unpretentious restaurant with a laid back ambiance.. The Dunes is under the watchful eye of the resident Executive Chef, Christopher Sandford. Chef Sandford is a rare gem. He truly has mastered has culinary craft. Chef Sandford does everything in his power to meet the highest expectations of his discerning dining patrons. HE does not settle, instead, excels above and beyond what is requested of him. It’s obvious he truly loves what he does. He exudes an approachable demeanor and goes out of his way to be sure you (as the diner) are pleased. The menu has something that appeals to most everyone. However, in the rare instance of uncertainty, Christopher will create a memorable dish not listed. We had numerous delectable meals during our stay. We can’t give enough accolades to Chef Sandford and his team at the Dunes. You will not be disappointed in your meal. We were highly satisfied….always exceeding expectations.

Lunch was very good. Menu choice is fantastic definitely catering for all taste. We sat outside with our dog, views are breathtaking. Service, staff are lovely very helpful. Could not fault our visit will definitely go back.

What a credit to this golf course your staff are! We ate after a round on Friday night and it was busy. Your serving team Molly dougy and a young man who may have been new were top notch. They were clearly busy but each one took the time to speak to us, answer questions and generally take care of us. We may have been visitors but we were made to feel like valued members. Food was brilliantly cooked if a little pricy. The seafood was delicious and venison tartare beautifully presented Our old fashioneds were great and i have never had such a good wine by the glass in a clubhouse. I will definitely be back. After such a fantastic course having a great meal was the cherry on top! Thanks again

We visited trump golf course to celebrate my promotion. We enjoyed viewing the beautiful golf course and had dinner. The staff treated us with great attention and I got a congratulations dessert. We enjoyed our stay

Visited for Sunday lunch wasn’t great poor menu choice & very overpriced small plates as starters one dish chicken wings were cold took away snd brought back which had obviously been reheated in microwave no apology offered . The price of deserts were ridiculously overpriced sticky toffee pudding bland . Was looking forward to a great experience but extremely disappointed. Wouldn’t rush back .

Visited the dune’s restaurant last night for a late supper. Service was perfect, cocktails were excellent and the food was fabulous. Great choice on the menu and good wine list. We will definitely be back soon. Thanks everyone.

Expected more but proved to be less, much like the owner! Not cheap but if it’s worth it I’m happy to pay. There is no children’s menu and chorizo soup wasn’t top of their list so we asked for bread and butter. Three half slices of shop bought, sliced bread each arrived for the children. The adults’ starters arrived at different times. We had fish soup with a chunk of bread. The soup was delicious but the bread stale. Wish we’d had the children’s supermarket bread instead. The fish and chips were delicious. Dessert panna cotta had to be handed back as it was toooooo hard. Too much gelatine. The staff were lovely but could have been more attentive as it wasn’t busy. Not sure if we’ll go back.

We Booked Sunday lunch for 1.30 pm on Sunday for 2 people, and advised by the nice waitress who recommended the roast beef.. After about 15 minutes she came back to say that there was no more roast beef ready and would be about another hour, as we didn’t fancy any of the other main courses it was a very limited choice, we said we would wait and decided to have a starter. The starter came quickly then we waited and waited, nobody came and offered us another drink so an hour and ten minutes later we had waited long enough and we were the only people still waiting the staff were cleaning up with a small hoover when we decided to leave . The manager said sorry there was only 3 tables booked and the golfers had all came in at the same time! She didn’t take any money for our starter, fair enough but it was so disappointing and obviously the people golfing had more preference than us who had booked . J Buchan

Went for my fathers 90th birthday and the staff went the extra mile inc adding extras to the birthday cake to make it extra special. Food was just amazing couldnt fault it at all. Great views from the restaurant and easy to park 5 *

Visited with the family. All of us had the roast beef Sunday Lunch ; the best we’ve had for a long time. Great attentive service. Nice wine. Good view from the clubhouse. Highly recommend.

Went for lunch today with my two friends and my friends baby. The food was so good and staff were amazing, I can’t recommend Dunes restaurant enough. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, will definitely be back!

My wife and I visited the dunes restaurant for Xmas lunch. From the minute you walk into the premises we were met by friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere on the day.. best Xmas lunch we have ever been out for. Food was 5 star. Will def be going back for Xmas lunch next year. Come to think about it we have never had a bad meal there.
