The Duke's Head in Wandsworth

Visited this establishment whilst on a trip to London. Great communication over email prior to our visit. Both food and service were great and helped to make our day even more enjoyable. Vegan options available which was a bonus.

Very busy Saturday night. Food took a while to arrive but was absolutely delicious. We had the salmon and the burger which were both great. Staff very busy but still managed to provide a great service with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for them

We waited hour & a half for food without any communication from staff. Other tables served, ate and left. Fried fish was so overcooked that it was hard to break the batter.

Caught up with friends for dinner and drinks. Great service from the staff. Food took a little while to come as it was busy but was still served in a decent time. The staff kept us informed as to our waiting times which was great. We’ve eaten a number of times at the Duke’s Head and the menu is always great when it changes

We prebooked table for a prematch drink table was ready when we arrived. Service was good and quick and as usual we enjoyed our visit

Caught up with an old friend over a relaxing and languid midweek lunch with good food, great service and a river view to match…happy to return.

Bank holiday lunch with family. Staff very friendly and attentive. Booking process super easy which was great. Lived in the area for years and my mum is super fond of the pub. Food was great, served quickly and was super tasty!

The Duke's Head is in a lovely position in Putney, overlooking the river. Our food was excellent, and the person serving us was exceptional. She did a great job. I would highly recommend this place, even if just for a drink. But even more so if going for food.

Service from Sona was efficient and friendly. Burger was great! However, pork crackling was rubbery, roast potatoes soggy, and carrots overdone. Spicy bakewell tart had no taste. Atmosphere ok, but spoiled by the idiot family of 8 disrespectfully playing music aloud from their mobile phone.

Gorgeous setting. Traditional old pub on the river. Went for Sunday lunch. Roast pork and fish and chips were fresh and fabulous! Burgers were a bit over cooked and fries cold and not many of them.

Relaxed and enjoyable Sunday lunch in the bar area. Staff friendly and attentive. We wanted a typical London riverside pub experience and the Duke’s Head delivered.

Had a divinal beef Roast on Easter Sunday. First roast in London and really enjoyed. The team was lovely, specially a really kind blonde lady.

A really great experience after a busy Boat Race. We had roasts and the food was absolutely fantastic. Service from the staff was amazing even though they were rushed off their feet with it being Easter Sunday. We also had a courtesy call to make sure our table was okay to be in the bar as it was a last minute booking!

Nice pub, the staff really nice, starters were ok, but the main food courses (all roasts) were dreadful and a disappointment on Easter Sunday . We were in the upstairs room, great view but pretty soulless.

Got a beer in between the breaks of the Oxford/Cambridge Boat race.

This pub has disappointed us a few times. The wait for food has been over an hour each time we go. Vegan options are pretty dismal. The steak was over done but after such a long wait we would hardly dare complain. The fish is always good.

Had a fabulous late lunch to watch the rugby- great food and service given it was super busy.

Appalling service, refused to seat us despite us arriving in time according to their own booking policy and having had a booking. Offered no apology, blamed us and said that they did not have enough time to serve us food, despite accepting our booking a week in advance. Had no regard for those with accessibility needs and I would absolutely discourage anyone that has any form of access needs from going here. The staff also need training in customer care. Do not assume booking a table and having booking accepted online and verbally means they will honour that booking.

Incredibly disappointed with the customer care, access and communication by staff. Booked a family lunch which my family drove 2 hours for. Thoroughly read the t&Cs and when we were slightly delayed called in advance to let them know. Part of our party were there within their late arrival policy (rest of party were slower as there was an elderly disabled lady walking in the rain). Group arrived in time only be refused to be sat for their booked table because the kitchen could not serve food despite table being booked for over an hour from arrival. Staff tried to blame us despite the fact we arrived in time, refused to apologise. Clearly they had over booked and understaffed as even if we had not been slightly delayed they would not have been able to serve us any food. They also refused to let us sit at the table we had booked for drinks. Sorely lacking in communication, customer care and not appropriate for anyone with any form of access needs.

Had the triple roast Sunday Lunch with roast beef, roast belly of pork and roast chicken . Generous portion of gravy and vegetables. Very nice decor , cosy and overlooks the river.

had a great meal with family this weekend, the roast was wonderful and the service was great. the food came quickly and was piping hot. it is a beautiful pub and can't wait to visit again!

We enjoyed a nice roast pork lunch and a burger here. Sat in the bar area as we have a dog. The service was really good. Nice atmosphere, and such a lovely location being by the river.

As a table of 4 we all thought it was best Sunday pub lunch we’d ever had! The pork belly was to die for and all the accompanying veg were delicious. Only slight disappointment was that the cauliflower cheese side had run out, but it was 3pm and was extremely busy. Our river view table was perfect for our family birthday celebration and the “Jealous” red wine complimented the meal beautifully. A very satisfying and enjoyable afternoon! Good food served efficiently and hot by a very bright young waitress. (We think Kayla). Fish cakes and Ox Cheek pie were the meals and they were very well presented. No hassling to get us gone at busy lunch time. international Rugby later that day and Fulham playing at home so plenty of people about. We had booked for midday and by time we left the place was very busy.So book!! View over the river very relaxing. We enjoyed a rare visit to busy London and this place added to our pleasure.

Had my 40th Birthday at The Duke’s Head (in the Rowing Club) and couldn’t have chosen a better venue for a party with a live band. Rhys, Rebecca, Teddy and the team were all fantastic both in the lead up and on the night itself. The food platters are expensive but delicious and I had lots of positive feedback on the quality of the food. Thank you for having us!

We invited family members for a special thank you lunch today. I requested a river view table in the restaurant. On arrival we were told the restaurant was unavailable as there was a funeral party. We could eat in the bar but if we wanted table service then we could sit upstairs. We chose upstairs but it was almost empty and was freezing cold. I had to put my coat on. Food was okay but my tomato risotto tasted so salty I couldn’t eat it. To be fair, they realised and didn’t charge for it. It was all a great disappointment and we were very annoyed that we hadn’t been informed before our arrival that the restaurant was closed. It had been booked a week previously. This was despite an email yesterday asking us to confirm attendance. We live in Putney annd have anlways had a good experience but had to apologise to our guests for a disappointing meal.

We attended for a Sunday Roast (booked a week in advance) Roasts were amazing, and portion sizes were very generous. We had a table overlooking the river. The service was brilliant, we weren't waiting long for our food even though it was busy inside the pub. It was quite noisy inside and the print on the menus was small but nothing that impacted our experience. Good choice of alcohol free options. A little more expensive than a standard outing but definitely worth it.

Nice enough pub, failed to practice what it preached. Signs for dry January all over the place but sold out / limited / expensive non alcoholic options mean this was a marketing opportunity not a genuine attempt to cater for an audience.

Incredibly saddened with my experience. 2024 and there are still managers who are unaware of the legislation surrounding assistance dogs. We wanted to sit near the windows in the restaurant on account of the light and my impaired vision, instead we were placed in a dark area of the pub which was teaming with flies. I asked the manager after informing him our dog was an assistance dog with papers if he was refusing to let us in the restaurant, he responded ‘yes’ with his back turned while walking away. We were treated with disdain and humiliated. I require no apology from this so called manager. My only aim in writing this is to warn others in my position.

Had a lovely Sunday roast here at lunchtime this week. The staff were friendly and accommodating, our group was large but we got our food quickly and it was delicious. Would recommend and will be back with friends next weekend!

Went to a work Christmas lunch in Dec 2023. Great atmosphere but food was disappointing

The Duke's Head in Putney is an excellent venue for a Sunday Roast. Excellent food and fine wine with great service.

Food great, pub great, but awful, rude service! Waiter / guy managing the area very rude and unhelpful. Too many things too list. Started the second we walked in. Then when paying he basically said impossible to remove the tip from the bill. I gave up and just paid which i now regret. Shame - all the staff seem to be trying and this guy ruins It.

It was too cold on boxing day when we visited, we were told they didn't have enough coal for the fire. The roast looked good but tasted pretty dry, was cooked a while before and my daughter's meal wasn't what we ordered and we were just told they didn't have the staff. I appreciated they took her meal off the bill and gave her some ice cream. But I had been really looking forward to a festive treat and it was very far from that.

We had a delightful Christmas dinner at the Duke’s Head - exactly what we were looking for. The dining room was elegant, with a view of the Thames. The three courses were extravagant, although the main was quite overportioned, which isn’t the worst thing for a Christmas dinner! The service was great with friendly staff who accommodated our request for a first floor table when the stairs looked too much for my elderly mother. The pub was festive too - while we didn’t stick around, I would certainly come back if I lived in London.

I had a wonderful Christmas dinner with my wife at The Duke’s Head, a historic pub and restaurant overlooking the River Thames. The food was delicious and hearty. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was cosy and welcoming, with Victorian decor and a view of the river. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a quintessentially British pub experience with a touch of class.

We had a great Christmas Eve dinner, food and service was top. Good roast and beer selection.

Overall it was a bit disappointing. Food was very , very average. Dining room is a nice place but it was empty. Main bar and stairs to wc smelt of sewage. Positives were Service was attentive and fast, and not expensive. Dessert was nice.

It was pretty disappointing for a Friday night and very quiet in here. It was fairly soulless and a big venue that was spacious, yet far emptier than everywhere else nearby. The usual Young’s selection was on offer such as Brooklyn Pilsner and Estrella on the lager front. There were a couple of ales on too with original as you’d expect all above average on the price side. Having ordered a couple of portions of skin on fries as a snack (noted not the most adventurous of options) we got two bowls of chunky type chips. Fair enough being there was an option of fries or chips and not what we ordered, but they literally tasted like they were frozen chips of a lesser quality than McCains! At £5.50 per portion the quality was awful! We ended up with nicer chips and food at Spoons nearby for a fraction of the price having left hungry and not wanting to order anymore food here. The bar staff were friendly and accommodating. Sadly the food was borderline offensive. Think twice before spending money on grub here.

Delicious pheasant and venison sausages, good wine, decent prices and friendly attentive waiter. Nice views over the Thames from the main dining room, and a crackling fire which was nice for a December lunch. Only tip for them would be to go through their wine glasses, two of ours were chipped with sharp edges. But not a biggie. Very nice. 👍

Great location. Venue was jam packed and spent 10-15 mins just trying to get through the crowd to the toilet! Very inconvenient! We booked a table for 8 people and paid the deposit for 8 people. Unfortunately, I made the (considerate) mistake of letting them know that 2 people would not be able to make it and to remove their pre-orders. Upon arrival, they actually gave us a really small round table in the corner where all 6 of us were squashed for our Christmas dinner. I asked if we could have the table for 8 but they confirmed that it would not be possible. Also very expensive for what it is. Service was ok too!

We got married at the duke’s head and had the best day! They were absolutely amazing. Our guests loved the martinis, the food, the vibes and the view. Special thanks to the staff that worked that day and helped us organise and prepare everything. Thank you for all the great vegan options as well!

We happened upon this pub by chance and stopped for a drink. Lovely atmosphere!

Lunch with my daughter and grandchildren was perfect. Why? The pub has been kept in the same style as when I frequented 50 years ago ! It's beautiful, and a real pub. Great beer and choice of wines. Food from the the restaurant is always top quality and the restaurant manager (Italian...yesss) is delightful and accommodating. One of those places where you say....when can we come back. Soon I hope.

Very weird, awkward experience.. Staff clearly didn’t want to be there and seemed to have an issue with serving myself and another party member despite showing completely valid ID’s? Had mine checked twice on same order (scratched it like crazy at the bar then took round back the second time) before rudely returning it and serving, his was told they didn’t believe it was real, but reluctantly served. Never had an experience like this before, was also hard to get acknowledged for drinks throughout the night.. made for an uncomfortable experience and a disappointing night. There’s being cautious and then there’s trying to purposely embarrass your customers. Only plus was the food was decent.

Quiet on Saturday but large group of us were able to find table and and bar space to sit and enjoy a few drinks before heading out.

We gather every Thursday to drink, eat and play D&D. Staff is really friendly and the food is good.

Been coming here for decades but havent eaten here since last year, just drinks(!), so also glad my elderly parents wanted to visit for dinner. Excellent food and drinks as usual from the cocktails to the wine. Great roasts and an exquisite, seared scallops starter. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more hospitable, thoroughly nice people.

After waiting for over an hour for our order we gave up and left. The manager started it was not his problem…

Went for a pub quiz that unfortunately did not happen, but Aiden was kind enough to let us have the quiz questions for us to do a private quiz. Beer on tap is good, chips are most excellent. They have riverside seating too which is a bonus if it isn't raining out.

We were doing a recce for a Christmas party and had booked a table for two with the intention to see which of the wines we could recommend to our group. Our waitress, Clementine, was just a treat - she took her time to take us through the wine menu and was so helpful as we chatted about our choices. She was a delight and made us feel welcome and valued. She took great care with our order (especially as a gluttard it's so important to be taken seriously) and was attentive and great fun and added enormously to our experience. We asked if she might be available for the evening we have the table booked and were thrilled when she said she would be. The food was delicious and traditional yet creative and the dining room is surprisingly quiet in spite of the busy popularity of the pub.

First time here for a Sunday roast and it was pretty good. Lovely vegetables, good Yorkshire puddings and the chicken and pork were very tasty. Also the cabbage was delicious. Just a few minor things to mention - the food could have been slightly hotter, the beef lacked seasoning / beefy flavour and the roast potatoes weren't crispy (they went soggy underneath the gravy). Other than that it was tasty. Dessert-wise, the sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble were nice but not amazing, probably wouldn't order those again but would return for a roast. Also, the mulled wine was very sour and pretty expensive for what it was.

We had a roast this Sunday. The food was perfect. This who had the Dukes roast raves about the crackling. Unfortunately, if you are sat in the pub area service really suffered. They need more staff. Tempted not to pay service but it’s not the staffs fault that they lacked support. Having said that all interactions were pleasant

We had pork with crispy crackling, however, the crackling was not crispy. We were brought more crackling but it was no better. This was a great pity as the service and setting was very nice.

Group attended Duke's Head Putney for an all day business meeting. Great service and food from the staff.

We arrived at 7.15 pm on a Sunday evening. We had a very nice table near the window and the staff were quick to take our order. The choice available on the menu was limited with only one roast chicken left. We had to ask 3 times for a bottle of water for the table. The food arrived fairly quickly but the roast pork was very disappointing. The meat at the edges and underside was so overcooked it was hard. There was some soft meat in the middle. We were not asked how our food was during the meal or when the plates was taken away. We had to ask for the dessert menu after not being asked when the plates were taken away. The waitress took our order but then had to come back to report that there was only one brownie left so choice was limited. The order was revised but again not properly recorded so she had to check out order again. When the pudding arrived they were acceptable.
