Green Man in Wandsworth

Came for Bank Hol lunch. Great place and have been many times before but was very disappointed with the menu this time. There were 7 meat or fish mains but the vegetarian option for a main dish, was either a veggie burger or a salad - very disappointing really as we just had to make up the vegetarian option from the starters and sides. Bar staff were great and acknowledged this was not very good. I hope this is recognised by whoever puts the menu together.

Our reserved table was ready for us following the Fulham V Palace match on Saturday. Beer is great and so are staff. What more do you need. A win, not a 1-1 drawn.

The Sunday roast beef at this pub is really delicious. The beef is tender and the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings that come with it are amazing. The food is full of great flavors, and the pub has a cozy atmosphere with friendly staff. If you want a yummy and traditional Sunday roast beef, this is the place to go!

Lovely pub with great outdoor space, but roast is incredibly disappointing, bland watery gravy & bad potatoes. Would not eat here again to be honest. Great place for a drink or two though.

We are great fans of Youngs pub generally but this was our first visit to the Green Man to eat and it did not disappoint. Food was great, staff very friendly and helpful. An overall very pleasant experience which we shall repeat.

Our most recent visit was for Mother’s Day and as always we had a lovely time. I’d ordered flowers in advance that were to be left on the table for my mum which absolutely gorgeous and such a lovely thing to offer, we also got a couple of glasses of complimentary Prosecco! All in all a very lovely day and my mum had a lovely time! Thank you!! (Especially poor Vanessa and Finn who had to come out in the rain as we were sitting outside!). We’ll see you very soon! 😊

Excellent burger, drinks and welcome

We always attend the Green Man pub quiz and have dinner! The staff are fabulous and can't do enough for you. I would highly recommend a visit with or without the quiz! btw, the garden area is lovely. Give it a whirl! (Sunday lunch is great too)

Came on Sunday for a roast and will definitely be coming back, the roast beef was incredible and the team were amazing. We were given a whole plate of yorkies for the table which went down a treat

Amazing second visit. The roast beef was really great and the portions generous. Our little pup was well looked after too and the whole place was really cozy.

We always use the Green Man after our Fulham football matches for drinks and sometimes a meal. We had a meal yesterday and as always it was well prepared and delicious. I like the effort being made in introducing more vegan dishes. The staff are always friendly and helpful too.

The 2 pan fried sea bass dishes, the chicken dish, beef pie were all tepid and didn't appear to be freshly prepared. The fish dishes also smelt a bit fishy. The only dish that was piping hot was the cassoulet.

Very, very disappointing! Menu I ordered never arrived after making payment. Kept me waiting and waiting, I went and query this at the bar a couple of times, (giving me excuses) My work coleagues that I came with got their food after we had a long day at work. I felt I was not getting served for waiting for that period of time. At the end I cancelled my order and left. I wonder why. We are now in 2024 this needs to be stopped

Really good pub which I recommend to people visiting the area, Unfortunately I visit usually after a funeral at Putney Vale cemetery, it is on the direct bus route (85) from outside the superstores at the lower cemetery gate and handily it has its own bus stop named after the pub, so you know when you have arrived! Young's beers in good condition and a very pleasant interior with lots of seats. Good transport options when you leave as it is opposite the bus terminus for several routes which go towards Putney Station and Bridge, Roehampton and Southfields.

Great place to watch 6nation! Guinness and burger is a must try combination with the atmosphere of the pub. Best thing? 15 minutes walk away from Wimbledon courts! Definitely visiting again with the guys!

A good selection of beers and wines, great atmosphere and even do a quiz night! The staff are friendly. I didn't get to sample the food but what I saw passing by looked semi cordon bleu! There is a smoking area to the back of the pub under a massive tent like structure! They even have a blanket box with blankets should you get cold. Would I return there? The answer is simply yes. Well done to all the staff at the Green man, bravo!

Having not booked we weren’t expecting a table inside but we were lucky enough to get one of the last tables in the bar area. The bar had a lovely atmosphere and the staff were wonderful and polite. Me and my wife couldn’t make our minds up so we got one of the roast beef and one pork belly…both delicious. The beef was perfectly pink and the pork was succulent and tender. All the trimmings you’d expect cooked to perfection, some of the best roast potatoes I’ve had. We ended up having puddings and crumble was sublime served with vanilla ice cream and when we asked they bought out custard as-well! Overall we had a great time and will definitely be returning in the future !

Had a great lunch. The food was good value. Chloe gave us a superb service. Nothing was too much trouble and she was always ready if we needed anything.

We had delightful food, and excellent beer in pleasant surroundings. As good as the last time, I am looking forward to the next time.

Was in Putney over Xmas and stopped by for Sunday lunch. Cosy pub but below average food; over cooked and dry, it seemed to us that the food had been cooked a lot earlier on in the day and had been reheated for us when we ordered. They appear to have traded freshly made food for being able roll it out when needed, rather than going for both. Go there for a cosy heathside drinks spot, but eat elsewhere.

One of the best traditional Sunday lunches I have had in a pub. Vegetables crisp and crunchy, pork delicious with proper crackling. Yorkshire pud overwhelmingly big though - more of a hat really. Good service from cheerful staff. Really like the decor, garden looked welcoming with beach huts but too cold for me.

Would absolutely recommend. Venue hired for a wake. From the moment of contacting The Green Man to the end, every single member of staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Food was good quality and delicious. The only minor request for future bookings, is that vegan burgers be labelled before setting out.

I love the atmosphere of this pub, almost feels like you are in the countryside, I always pop in when I’m in Putney. Unfortunately my roast today was truly awful and I am not a fussy eater. The roast potatoes had that mushy inside texture you get when you reheat them the next day, the gravy was flavourless and very watered down, the beef was very low quality and the Yorkshire puddings were overdone and flavourless. 😔 Service was 10/10 on the other hand and the waitstaff are super kind so this is disappointing. I have previously ordered burgers and small starters in the past which I thought were great so I am hoping their cook just called in sick today and they had to make do.

My grandfather used to frequent The Green Man in Putney through the 40s and 50s; last week was the first time we had visited as we were in London. We had to book ahead and upon arriving it was clear to see why. The place is really cosy and welcoming. We were shown to our table and the service was excellent throughout our time at the pub. The food was delicious (we had the Sunday roast) and you could tell that meals here are cooked with good quality fresh ingredients. The place gently bustled with folk arriving and leaving, there's a sense of community and the Green Man being a place visitors return to...why wouldn't you when the experience is as good as it is. Thanks kindly and we really look forward to seeing you all at the Green Man soon.

The Sunday roast beef was terrible, stringy and of very poor quality. It was not possible to eat the beef. Also meagre portions.

The team at the Green Man are always so helpful. They accommodated a last minute change with no fuss. The food was good as always, and the ambience is always good.

The perfect place to catch up with friends over delicious food. Friendly atmosphere, cosy surroundings and dog friendly so our dogs could snooze beside us throughout the evening. We've been before and it has always been a great experience. Looking forward to returning again.

Today's visit was a reccy for bringing a party if 8 for a Christmas bash. Beer of choice was Winter Warmer was excellent, just a snack today (Scotch Egg). Friendly staff.

Disappointing visit to our local for Sunday lunch. Chicken was pink and had to be returned for further cooking. Not significantly better when brought back.

Pub has a nice feel to it. Lovely staff & atmosphere. Location is good, not many pubs in that area. Large rear garden, perfect for summer & dogs.

It's a nice looking pub but our experience wasn't as good as it could have been. The service was slow and we had to ask for plates to be cleared and to see desert menus. One of the group had the bread pudding and custard for desert but the custard was past it's best, was lumpy and had a sour smell and taste. Overall the roast dinners were warm not hot and the potatoes were dry in the centre. It wasn't the worst Sunday lunch we've had but for 5 adults, one drink each and two courses it wasn't good enough for the £170 bill at the end... Overall disappointing.

Our usual and favourite pub. The staff is professional and friendly. You can see the place is very well managed with just a couple of visits, all works very smoothly. Sometimes you can find a new person behind the counter with little experience (everybody needs to start from scratch at some point) but what I like of this place is the fact they are very committed to please the customer because they always seem to pick the right kind of person. The knowledge can be acquired but the right personality to work in a business where you need to deal with people all the time, that's a more complicated thing. And they usually nail this. The ambience is great. Several spaces or rooms that can offer a relative quietness when a group of people is celebrating something in another room. You can expect the wooden decoration and the old paintings and retro photos on the wall which make pubs pubs. The food is quite good even we usually go just for a snack. All in all, our first place to go after a hard day's work.

Love this traditional, local pub! Always buzzing with a neighborly feel, peeps out for food, drink and fun. Lots of seating options, by the window or tucked away. Also when the weather is so mild a lovely outdoor patio at back. Desserts and coffee are fine but it was my Scottish trout that’ll keep me coming back. Great pit stop by the bus stop but this is no dive. Highly recommended 🙌🏻 ( Hygiene rating 5)

An excellent meal with my family. Always a good and wide menu and good value. The service we had was superb - we were alerted to a welcome offer on drinks and candles were supplied for a birthday cake. Couldn't have been better. We go regularly and love it every time

Ordering food is now at the bar or via an App. So we ordered at the bar and had a really nice young man who took our orders. We sat outside in one of the wooden huts. Waiters brought our food - hamburger and steak - promptly. Similarly for a dessert. A very pleasant evening. Two things that should have been done before we arrived - the table of the first hut we chose had broken glass on it. We moved to another hut and that had cigarette buts on the floor (it was supposed to be non-smoking).

Jeez Louise. I am a proud American Tourist and golly gosh what a pub this is. This pub hit me with gusto and ambiance that is just not offered within the States. Ever since Sleepy Joe took over anyway. Anyway, I digress. I was served by a young chap with an ear to ear grin, Cameron was his name-o. He went above and beyond for me, so much so that I felt right at home having a Thanksgiving meal. Came back the very next day with the ol' ball and chain, and I must say, it was a riveting return. Cameron was there once again, and he personally ensured that I dined like a King. 10/10 would feast again.

We used to be regulars here 40 years ago when we lived in Putney and hadn't been back since! So everything was different apart from the front of the pub! It was late afternoon so was a bit quiet and I got served a pint which was just a bit cloudy so it wasn't wonderful. My own fault for not sending it back. But we enjoyed the afternoon. Food and service was good.

Eton mess no berries at all. Just whipped cream, meringue, and fruit sauce used for ice cream. Now if they had run out of the advertised English Strawberry we should have been told as this pudding was not pleasant at all. Certainly not worth the £6.50 we paid

First visit to pub today and will definitely be visiting again and again. Had the Sunday roast which was out of this world and the service was great. Staff very friendly and very helpful.

Great atmosphere and excellent service. Bit disappointed with the size of the marquise pud but otherwise enjoyed our visit and will likely be back.

Popped in for a drink after a long walk when it started raining. Friendly staff, so decided to have lunch. The fish and chips was a great option, good portion size, fish was well cooked. Will go back next time for the outside garden area on a sunnier day. Would recommend!

The staff were very accommodating, friendly & professional. The food was really good, 1 of our party just had a slight issue with 1 of the vegetarian dishes. Our table, seating & surroundings were really good, only criticism - could do with some better ventilation. We would visit again & would definitely recommend!

We came after a long walk on the heath and were blown away by this place, it has a really cool garden at the back lots of little sections for seating inside. The food was good and the staff very friendly.

This is such a lovely pub. The garden is beautiful and the food is really good. I had the fish and chips and the batter was lovely and crispy and I had to order extra tatare it was so good. We will definitely be back again soon

Delicious vibrant, flavour-filled vegan salad. This hidden gem is just off putney high street. With a gorgeous green beer garden & big sliding doors that allow you to see out into the garden. Would definitely recommend stopping by.

Lovely evening spent at the green man in Putney. It was my birthday, and the staff made me feel so welcome. Poppy in particular made my evening with her friendly and attentive service and perfectly poured pints. I’ll be returning soon!

Sadly this pub is owned - I’ll avoid the term ‘run’ - by Youngs. Hence be prepared to wait an age for service with no acknowledgement from staff on nearby tables who forget that it’s a pub rather than an internet startup. I wonder what all those meetings and laptops are about.

This is my second bad review I had to leave, the last one was a couple of years ago. I truly thought they would change. Menu seems ok but luck of nibbles, would be nice to have something small with the beer rather than full...

Ok drinks however expensive. The staff doesn’t seem to happy about what they’re doing, barely saying anything and getting the order wrong each time. Choice of food is really bad and the quality very poor. Would not recommend to eat there at all. Nice beer garden

When it arrived the risotto was tepid not hot. The chicken burgers were ok although two were overdone. The chips were great. I really wanted to love this place because it is local and dog friendly but not sure if we would go back.

Went during the 2023 Spring Bank Holiday Saturday Dinner. Cozy ambience and loads of seats inside and outside as well. Ordered the Crunchy Chicken Burger with Kimchi. Chicken was nice and crispy. Paid around £17-18. Btw, the guy (red t-shirt) who served us was really nice and cute lol. 😉

Had a nice evening but food (cauliflower dish) was unremarkable and we were disappointed not to have table service. Chips were delicious. Ordered bottle of rose wine but was told it “was not chilled”. This was the same with our 2nd choice. Ended up drinking un-chilled wine.

Delicious food, beautiful setting - we sat outside in one of the Huts which had music, a heater and a perfect spot in the sunshine. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was delicious :) Very child and dog friendly too!
