Lovely pub, the manage to walk the line of family friendly yet with a really good atmosphere. Really friendly staff and good drinks. Really good food the vast majority of the time and a great outdoors space that’s also good for dogs. The best pub in the area

I can highly recommend the lunchtime specials. Superb quality food.

Best Sunday Roast in East London.

Food good. Service good. Price on the high side. 12.5% service charge added to the bill. This is not a restaurant. I would normally pay 10%. Toilets in desperate need of refurbishment. I normally judge an eating establishment by its hand washing and toilet facilities.

Love this place! Great vibe, lovely atmosphere and lovely staff. For the Sunday Roast normally the meat is great but the veggies and yorkshire puddings can be temperamental.

Good food and excellent drink selection. Regularly come here for meals and drinks. Good with kids. The Tuesday coworking session is fantastic idea. They can get very busy at weekends.

When here for Sunday lunch with friends and my young daughter, staff were friendly and very attentive. Sunday lunch was brilliant, prices were reasonable with a good atmosphere Can't wait to come back

Went for lunch on a rainy Thursday. Had fish finger bap and chips. The fish was overcooked and really dry; you could taste the oil on the chips. Really terrible. Husband had vegan burger and chips ; he said even McDonald’s better. The waiter asked if food ok and to his credit, when I told him, he gave me a free drink. No complaints about the service just the food.

Great food and great service! Had a first class vegetarian meal served up with care and attention. 2 people in wheelchairs and myself were table waited by the very friendly and accommodating lady behind the bar whose name unfortunately I didn’t get. The food too was very good especially the vegetarian option which was a bowlful of lovely textures and flavours. This is not the first good experience here and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Tasty food, reasonable selection of drinks and good atmosphere, feeling like a community pub. Chairs uncomfortable for a long session though😂

A good gastro pub. Well stocked wine cellar and some good food. This time we went for cheese board bar snack but they also have an interesting a la carte menu too. We always have a good meal

Lunch menu very limited basically if you don't like burgers then you haven't much choice. Extremely pricey.3 escallopes £15 which were mediocre.Bill came to £190 for average food. Staff inexperienced. Did not seem to know what was being offered!! To top it all only 2 Bitters available out of 5 pumps!!!! Really disappointed after our friends had taken us to what they thought was a great pub!!!!

Avoid Sunday lunch delays... Staff consistently misled on how long the 2nd course would take to arrive...45 mins later... One serving was still outstanding... They agreed 20% goodwill discount for all this frustration but included a service in the bill... Unbelievable... Unrepeatable

Very nice roasts and great pub atmosphere. The vegetarian roast was nice but the nut roast bit was cold - veggie sausages would have been better! Great service as well

Outstanding food, better than most restaurants without a doubt. Annie is lovely, charming, Some 8 tables outside, nice when it's NOT !!! raining, also under cover tent at rear for more seating. They should introduce a HAPPY HOUR fir reduced priced cocktails between 5 & 6.30pm any thoughts ?????? Saturday 18th November, still NO happy hour, as like all pubs drinks and lowish quality bottles of wine expensive, they charge like the Light Brigade. All staff very nice .. Whilst it can get very busy on a Sunday, this pub has one of the best vegetarian roasts. And it's consistently good. Service is always friendly and good too. There's outside seating, and a covered outside area to the side. I've never sat there so can't comment on what they're like, just that they exist. Dog friendly too.

Excellent local pub with very good food.

We were a family group and waited one and half hours for our main courses. The waitress was unhelpful and the manager not at all in charge of proceedings .

The Duke is a great place to go to whether for a drink or a meal. The ambiance is fantastic and today Taylor was great. She went out of her way to make sure a table was made available for us as we were initially told they were full. Taylor's service was excellent. We tried the new dish of roast lamb for two people, it was great. Possibly on the side of being a trifle expensive. Ronnie the owner has done a lot of work to create an ambiance of warm hospitality and a great local pub. Ronnie has also done a lot of work to encourage good harmonious community spirit and everyone is really friendly. I took friends there for the first time and they thoroughly enjoyed it thanks to Taylor. Well done the Duke, we will be back soon.

Wow, das Sundayroast war einfach super!!! Rind, Schwein und Hühnchen, alle drei Gerichte waren einfach nur unglaublich lecker. Das Personal war wirklich nett und die Stimmung super.👍

I've been to the Duke for lunch, drinks and Sunday lunch. Always great. The food especially is fab. Service is consistently good. And a few cocktails which are worth a try too.

Phantastisches Sunday Roast in einem Traditionellen Pub. Wir hatten das Glück an einem Sonntagabend ohne Reservierung noch einen Platz zu bekommen. Wir hatten Pork Roast, das Beef Roast und das Chicken Roast - alle mit einer sehr leckeren Sauce und großzügigen Gemüsebeilage. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Nice local pub away from the busier high street. Very cosy feel inside with a spacious beer garden that has a covered tarpaulin roof and heaters in the winter. The food here is very good.

Had the Sumday roast menu. Very good on the whole. Arancini good, burrito a bot runny and the bread was chewy, mushrooms on toast nice but not very hot. Roasts very good - 3 of us had the pork belly and had an enormous amount of meat - maybe due to being last orders of the day. Good crackling. Beef very good.

The Duke never fails to please with its gourmet pub menu, excellent wine selection, and a fantastic selection of beers. The Guinness is spit on, and that is high praise coming from a very fussy Irishman!

Took my Father-in-law for a treat as our family were west.. superb Sunday roast, a good wine list and very attentive service. They even gave us a complimentary dessert given the one we ordered had sold out.. excellent value and dog friendly so made a fuss of our dog.. have drank there for years and sporadically eat men but have never had a mediocre meal - always exceptional so thought it was about time I gave some further appreciation..

1st visit in a while, and surprisingly very busy for a pub that is a on a quiet suburban side street. Saturday evening visit.

Went for Sunday lunch and food was delicious. Lots of families and children, all well behaved but if this isn't your vibe it's not for you.

We came to celebrate my friend's birthday. I am gluten intolerant. The staff were so accommodating. They didn't have a menu printed with options of what is gluten free, so the server went to the kitchen and came back with a bespoke written menu with what my options were to eat. It was so considerate and I really appreciated. The food was excellent and I will definitely come back.

Limited menu, sticky table, but burger was good. Scallops seemed expensive.

I’ve both worked and visited the duke. It is a terrible place to work and visit. The food is mediocre and overpriced. The managerial staff are the worst I’ve ever worked with and it is overall the worst place I’ve worked in my extensive hospitality career. I would avoid this pub at all costs

Always been a regular, but a big let down for a family meal on Father's Day.... Some food had to go back, slow.... Staff helpful and friendly and clearly under pressure. Took some meals off the bill.

So my lasting impression was more gastro than pub Only dropped in for a beer but I’m sure they thought we were a gay couple and kept trying to get us to buy food Went to the pub down the road

This pub has gone downhill! Music very loud in all dining areas. They charged 12.5% service for food ordered at the bar without explaining that this was added. Tables were not cleaned and chairs askew. Wouldn’t have minded but for the cheeky and undeserved service charge for a bar order, about which I was then rudely reminded that the food would be “brought to the table”. Wouldn’t come back again.

The best roast dinner iv had in a long time! We had the Lamb and roast beef (we preferred the lamb)… The meat is great quality, it’s organic or free range. People leaving reviews complaining about the price - you are paying for quantity… And the price is reasonable for what you get! We had sticky toffee pudding for desert and it was amazing.. The service was slow but it’s a very busy pub - and the food is worth the wait and the staff are very nice & helpful. The only negative is that the table we was on was very sticky & needed a re varnish. We will definitely be returning!

Really good pub in Wanstead! Come here for lunch on a Saturday and will repeat. Dog and baby friendly too - baby changing facilities also staff was very attentive/friendly with our son. A nice outdoor area to the rear which is covered to keep cosy and a BBQ spot in the summer. Food was surprisingly good.

The duke is a great spot for a sunny afternoon! The space is great as Inside is cosy and outside has a really nice vibe- I’d love to see some live music there this summer to really seal the deal! The day staff are lovely - though I always find the evening staff a little rude. I think the food is some of the better pub grub you can find in Wanstead. Slightly elevated menu with a range of unique options but still quite reasonably priced as the ingredients feel quality. I recommend the Caesar chicken and bacon sandwich (pictured) which really was fresh and delicious (though not available after 4 I believe) the mushrooms on toast and the Mac and cheese are also lovely. Though I haven’t tried them, the burgers look good as does the steak. I recommend popping in if you’re looking for a nice pub in Wanstead at lunchtime I’d choose this place over some of the others.

Came here with my Mum for a mid-week lunch and catch up, and thought it was good balance between a pub and decent food. Atmosphere was relaxed and airy but still had the character of a pub. There were a couple of beers on hand pumps, including my local favourite East London Brewery Foundation Best. The food was good, a little more imaginative than standard gastro fare and well executed. Both the lamb rump (£25) and beef short rib (£22) were tasty with good quality ingredients, and the lamb was just the right shade of blush to appreciate the meat's quality and flavour. Neither of us were quite so sure about the cacio e pepe arancini. It makes for a delicious simple pasta sauce but felt a bit stodgy in arancini. Service was friendly, fast and helpful with the pub doing a stead trade all through the afternoon. I will definitely be back, for a pint of the bitter if nothing else!

It's a bit too quiet on a Saturday night. Would be great to see a DJ for a better atmosfere and more people.

Hands down best pub in the area! Feels more like a countrypub, with inventive gastropubby food. Really nice staff, who were super accommodating of our table (a dog and two babies).

The staff were attentive but our Sunday meal was not hot and when we sent it back it returned drowned in gravy. The roast potatoes did not taste good and were soggy. They did not charge for the 2 returned dinners but that’s not the point.

Came to industry night had an amazing time was helped out by my multiple bar staff and one named Jenny that explained the whole night and what we do for it to us, over all an amazing night and will definitely visit again tomorrow

Terrible service, in the middle of our lunch, after ordering drinks and starters we tried to order our main dishes but the staff told us that the only way to continue our meal was by ordering the rest at the very busy bar counter as they didn't have enough staff. Standing 15 minutes in line between a plate and the other is not the ideal lunch for us. Go for a pint not for a meal!

We booked a table for 11 for lunch on Saturday and the service and food was fabulous. The staff were very accommodating and the food is the best we’ve had in Wanstead recently! Thank you.

Really lovely pub, for food and drink. We had steak sandwiches which melted in the mouth. It was also good with kids and had a kids menu that suited my little one and gave her colouring in pencils to colour the menu.

This is one of the best pubs in Wanstead that serves the Community. Also demonstrated by the attitude of the staff and service received from them - Tommy, Taylor and Liam led by the Philanthropist owner - Ron. We had our Christmas Get Together this week and all said they had a great time, so many thanks Ron.

It's the pub I meet the other dads in. Always has space. Can sit down. Lots of choices, plus do food. So perfect for middle aged people like myself.

The Duke hosted a Christmas Dinner for the families of Haven House and I had the privilege of attending. Thank you to yourself and staff for the attention to detail and again for this heart felt action from yourselves. Merry Christmas to you all xx

Poor service, not sure if staff were new or hungover. Slow service, missed dishes, we had to ask several times for things, generally miserable. By half 6 nearly all starters had run out. Good food but over priced.

Our favourite pub in the area by far! All the staff are super friendly, foods great - priced quite high but 100% worth every penny. Lovely atmosphere in the pub also and super doggy friendly would recommend.

Dommage! Nos nous faisions un plaisir de déguster et goûter pour la 1ère X, un Sunday Roast. Nous avons choisi 3 viandes, agneau, boeuf et porc.. L'assiete surchargée de viandes "mouillées" sur les pdt et légumes..pas très appétissant ! Pour nous les végétariens, trop d'attente entre chaque légume... la pièce où nous étions installés étant glacée... heureusement que le Cahors était bon & les serveuses très professionnelles ..merci

Love this pub and have gone regularly for years; service has been hit or miss recently (where hasn’t it been, tbf). But last night’s dinner was wonderful: want to shout out particularly excellent service from Taylor and Gemma. Absolutely flawless from start to finish, on a busy Friday night. Food was great, wine was excellent. Thanks, team!

Service was absolutely appalling. Won’t be visiting again, waited over an hour for a starter of sourdough.

Such helpful, friendly staff. They have an outside covered area, which was comfortable n looked great. We all enjoyed the food n without doubt, will return. The pub has been transformed.

We had a superb evening at the Duke. DJ was amazing and played an array of soul tunes . Manager was very welcoming . Thank you to all the staff , DJ and manager for a memorable evening . We will be back next week for sure .
