The Duke of York in Ipswich

Just had Sunday roast here. Lovely. Warm welcome groom two lovely hospitable ladies. Great service. The flood was excellent. Thick slices of beef unlike the see thru stuff in some places. Cauliflower cheese creamy and aromatic and a decent size square of sticky toffee pud that is not overly sweet. Ample servings of gravy and sauces. And their weekday menu looks great. Great roasts on Sundays and awesome live music every week. Highly recommended

The roast is without doubt the best in Ipswich, huge portion of roasted + smoked pork and beef, with great crackling, hot and crispy spuds, and a very hearty amount of vegetables. Came here for a roast after the eating a portion of ribs, which at £12 was the softest, most tender meat i've had in years. Couldn't have left the duke a happier man, tipsy, full and laughing.

The best pub of them all! Amazing food, great drinks, the friendliest atmosphere and fun events! I keep it short because you need to come and try it yourself!

Had the ribs here. Very nice food; good quality and great value. They have a smokehouse and you could taste the quality with the meat.

Jazz and roast beef excellent. We have stopped going out for Sunday lunch as always disappointing. Delicious beef, roasties and lashings of gravy. Very generous portions. Couldn't quite finish the veg. Staff friendly and cheerful a great relaxed atmosphere. Great to find somewhere that is still a pub with lots of locals not just all about food

The relaunched menu with the smoked meats is great. We had the smoked meat platter to share which would have fed an army and it was excellent! Will be coming back again

I’ve only been in a few times and it’s been early (3-4pm) so obviously very quiet. Staff are always friendly and chatty and serve you quickly. Fairly small pub, but that’s not a bad thing. They don’t do food as such, but do have a pizza van out back which does pizzas Thursday to Sunday evenings I believe.

Nice to see an expanded menu again at The Duke. As always the staff are friendly and the drinks are good. A great family friendly and dog friendly pub.

Beer was average at best, only stayed for one drink.

Only been in a couple of times as not local but found the place to be welcoming, have friendly staff, and good Guinness. The pizza which is served in the garden, tasted good but limited choice of toppings.

My favourite pub in Ipswich, great drinks, great freshly made pizza. Always have good bands and events on. Generally a nice place to be! Keep up the good work!

Would have given five stars, but car park has been turned into beer garden for the summer, so you have to park on single yellows after 6pm and that means parking on the path. Otherwise nice small pub well done out with comfy settees and seats. And a bus out the back.

Jazz afternoon was super chilled, definitely coming back, Marcus the barman was super attentive and makes the best gin combination. Everyone was super friendly. Pizzas are great too from the bus. Would recommend every time.

After we have been here previously and enjoying a fantastic roast dinner felt extremely disappointed today Sunday 11th dec 2022 I had the starter prawn and mango it looked like the whole think was just thrown on and the prawns and mango were still frozen my partner had the scallops and prawns which were not seasoned at all Our main was the roast dinner a trio of meats there wasn’t a lot of meat but was cooked well however the gravy was as thin as water the parsnips couldn’t be cut as they were rock hard the potatoes were just oil for the most part the vegetables were also hard but could be cut thank goodness ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and it was a bit of bland sauce at the bottom of the bowl and the cauliflower on top so had to mix it together to get any bland sauce Thoroughly disappointed and at a cost of £67 felt extremely disappointed and would not recommend to any of my family and for friends to go to the duke of York and it was also freezing inside as the heating was broken

Lovely pub, so friendly, great selection of drinks and friendly dog to boot! Can't fault it, me and my family enjoy coming here of an afternoon and my husband and I try and come here whenever we have a rare date night. Recommend.

A number of good real ales but if you are first in after the pipes have been cleaned make sure your pint tastes alright.

It was absolutely lovely, with lovely people

First time in here, it was a hot Saturday and we had a puppy with us. The super friendly staff made us feel instantly welcome. There were a team of guys cooking up jerk chicken on the grill outside and there was a band playing out there too. Henry Westerns on tap as well....which is a new one for me. Stay for a few hours - will be back.

Not bad at all. Popped in for a couple of decent beers. I've been in Ipswich for about 20 years but this is the first time I've been to this pub. Shame on me!

Lovely place! Parking very difficult. Small car park which was full so had to park up a side street a far stomp away. But it was worth it! Great band night.

Great friendly pub, good selection of beers with live music every Friday. They also serve lovely "take away" food from a bus in the car park which you can eat in the pub.

Visited yesterday lunchtime with my little boy for pre-match lunch. Really friendly staff and extra special mention for Reggie the dog. Tried the food after seeing video from Food Review Club on Youtube and both agreed best chicken burger we've ever had. We're back in Ipswich next for Sunderland match and will be sure to visit again.

Horrible! The drink i ordered didn't taste right..pump line wasn't flushed out properly. Can't sit outside and enjoy the summer sun due to disgusting stomach turning greasey stench from fast food bus parked out back. Never again!

Been here few times, friendly staff and good service. Also dog friendly. Quality beers and good food. There is BWR bus behind the restaurant. Outdoor seating available too. Definitely would recommend if you prefer a calm environment.

What a great pub! Really friendly and attentive staff, quick service and the wings were awesome. Surprisingly great value beer and great value cocktails. Good for rugby matches too. Couldn't recommend it more highly

Lovely outdoor area now with easy table service. Gets 5 stars just for serving Calvors beer. 'Burgers Wings & Ribs' is on site but separate to the pub. Just order from their website/app and they'll serve you at the table though.

** DISGUSTING RUDE MANAGER** Party of 5 one signed in and seated. We arrived separately and manager made us wait until queue had gone before we could sign in and sit. My 5 year old daughter needed toilet, so proceeded to take her whilst partner waited she followed and shouted at me because I hadn’t signed in. My daughter was desperate she told me we had to get out of HER pub. Steer clear not friendly at all

Utter useless, shambles, never had us booked in, even though we had paid £20 deposit, waited 20 minutes before some one took our drink order, waited 45 minutes for said drinks, only after complaining, was told tech glitch. Table next to us waited 50 minutes. Asked for final bill twice, waited 25 minutes. Utterly awful

I ordered breakfast on their website (after the lady told me on the phone that it’s cheaper to do that than deliveroo) and the order didn’t come in the specified time limit, so I called the store and gave the lady my order number etc she said it couldn’t be located (although I had email confirmation and the money had already left my bank). She told me she would speak to the manager to resolve the issue but I wasn’t allowed his contact details. After chasing them up on numerous occasions it was agreed that I would receive a refund as it’s only fair. After all I’ve paid for goods I didn’t receive. Well all these months later I still have not received a refund and they aren’t answering the phone. Absolutely shocking behaviour from a business I am appalled! I ordered from BREKKO but money has come out to BWR. Same company. Both companies see to be operating from this pub in Ipswich.

So we decided to treat ourselves tonight, what else can we do we’re in a lockdown! Well what can I say, food was in the masses, everything was amazing and soooooo tasty, even when I was full to the brim (and I mean big fat piggy stuffed!) I still had a plate full, so that’s tomorrow’s dinner sorted! Thank you all at The Duke for an amazing meal all round, can’t wait to visit when we can!

I have used this pub over the years and I must say that Chris has done a fantastic job since he took over last year. Before Covid it was getting really busy and the bar had a very warm cozy atmosphere and there was an excellent range of beers. With Covid the car park has been utilised and recently a huge marquee has been erected. Seating and service are strictly within Covid guidelines and I felt very safe there. The beers continue to be excellent both in range and quality and the service is very good with minimal delays. A bonus is having the Burgers Ribs and Wings catering bus on site. The food is amazing and very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit!

I have only just recently started using the Duke and I cannot recomend the pud enough. Chris the landlord along with his staff have worked their socks off since taking over the pub to make it a welcoming and friendly place to drop in and have a pint. It's a pity lock down has happened as they have made every effort to accommodate people in a warm secure outdoor environment. Also to top things of the beer is kept well and very drinkable.

Good outdoor seating facilities even in the colder weather. Friendly service and a good selection of beers on tap. Would highly recommend.

Lovely ambiance, great service and gorgeous food, could do with offering a vegetarian burger as wife is a vegetarian. Look forward to spending more time there as just down the hill from us. Already planning on inviting our friends to join us.

I was lucky enough to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon here yesterday and will be more than happy to repeat the experience. Refurbed with style, friendly knowledgeable staff, good choice of beers, comfortable seats by cozy fires and regular music / quiz nights. What's not to like

Lots of potential for this pub, wish I had of got it at freehold 👍🏼 With a real good input, business plan/design and layout change this will do amazing.with awesome food Home made food this could come on par with the excellent pubs like the Gray hound, Woolpack, Fat Cat.
