Really, really poor for the price. We used to love this place but today it was very expensive with small portions and agonisingly slow service. My take on miso cod was really poor, especially for £24! It will be a while before we return. Enormously disappointed. Used to be our favourite!!

Great food and service. Went for a family birthday. However, if you go on a Sunday watch out when the bill arrives. I’ve been twice and overcharged on the set 2 course Sunday lunch menu of £25 both times. Apparently the button on the system for the set menu doesn’t work and so charges you for the individual items. First time I went back and got a refund. 2nd time (a month later) I was aware and picked up on it straightaway so got the bill adjusted.

A group of us ate at the Duke last week. We had made some last minute changes to numbers and dietary requirements but nothing was too much trouble for the team. The food was lovely, atmosphere great and the staff are the friendliest bunch ever. Clearly a very popular pub as it was busy and full of locals. I will definitely be back

Absolutely loved my DofW experience. So where to begin, firstly food delightful, lots of locally sourced items, extensive variety very well catered for. Even vegetarian! Staff are attentive and nothing is too much trouble. As well as this their dish knowledge is spot on. Location great! The ambience of the DofW is like a cosy blanket, inviting and comfortable. I am not really a reviewer but when you have such a good experience you need to give the venue and staff a shout out! Thankyou we will be back!

The worst restaurant I’ve been to in many years. Only five members of staff For more than 100 customers. Waited over two hours for the main course , Staff saying everything is fine when clearly things were not fine. I feel sorry for the waitresses who were taking the brunt of everyone’s frustration. Hopefully they will get their act together as I have been there twice previously and it was good.

What a lovely pub nice food nice friendly atmosphere it is a nice place to go out and have a nice drink and something to eat.

This is a really lovely historic pub with good food. What is really nice is the way the building breaks dining areas, both inside and out, into different areas so it never really feels large. The furnishings were clean, comfortable and very varied. We booked for dinner on Sunday and chose 5pm as it is normally between busy periods, and so it proved. There is a fixed price menu comprising two courses for £25, three for £31, although you could stick to the standard menu if you just wanted one course. We both had the prawn cocktail to start. This was well prepared and had a suitable kick in the sauce. This was followed by roast chicken and roast pork. Both were well cooked and presented. My only criticism is that presentation resulted in too few vegetables, as they all had to fit neatly under the Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes were nice but not crispy on the outside as you would expect in a perfect roast. Extra gravy was supplied, and a selection of sauces. Dessert was a lovely mini summer pudding served with excellent ice cream. The miniature size did mean there was, in my view, too much bread compared to fruit, but I guess this is less wasteful than serving slices from a larger pudding and lent itself to better presentation on the plate. The staff were really efficient and friendly. Would I go back? I don't think any of the minor faults would put me off and I think this is a great pub with good food and excellent atmosphere and staff.

Great food, kind and welcoming service.

The other two pubs being either full or not serving food we tried this place for the first time. Plenty of parking - in the shade - was a good start, as was the large outside seating area with a variety of seating. QR code menus made it easy to choose food and order it to the table; there was no option for the spritzer my mum wanted so we went inside to get drinks. Later we saw folk with the paper menus, but it was no real issue. The online menu had as its first question to ask about allergies which I though was good organisation. Food was extremely good, very tasty, nicely presented, and hit the spot; just a really nice experience with friendly staff and therefore definitely a place to go back again.

Super relaxing, gorgeous old pub. The food was well beyond expectations. There are some great walking trails nearby, so while visiting the area for a few days this was such a fabulous spot to be able to dip in and out of. Top tier spot!

As usual the food was great and speedily delivered, what was unusual about this Friday was that the app was being very annoying and kept asking me to find a pub even though I had ordered, weird 🤷🏼 Back to food, the beef and ale pie is amazing and my partner had steak Diane which she said was to die for. Great food and service thoroughly recommend

Having spent the last couple of days staying at the De Vere hotel up the road, we came and visited the Duke of Wellington for Sunday lunch and a few drinks in the sunshine, we then went back again the next evening for the most amazing meal and fantastic hospitality, we ended staying til almost closing! Thank you so much Joe and the team for a great couple of trips, we will definitely return with the rest of the family ! 😊😊

I recently visited The Duke of Wellington for a family dinner, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. Despite the restaurant's good reviews, we encountered several issues that marred our evening. Firstly, the service was poor. We ordered our food through the app, combining starters and mains in a single order. To our dismay, both the starters and mains were served together. This resulted in our main courses going cold as we ate our starters. When we raised this issue with the staff, they explained that we should have specified on the app that we wanted the starters first. This crucial detail was not mentioned anywhere in the app, making the process seem broken. The staff showed little concern that our main meals were now cold, which was quite frustrating. We ordered two steaks, and both were disappointing. One was so badly cooked it was inedible, prompting the staff to remove it from the bill. The second steak, requested medium rare, arrived overcooked and tasted like it was prepared at home – far from the quality expected at a restaurant charging high street prices. When we raised the issue, although one steak was removed from the bill, there was no real empathy from the staff. Essentially, two dinners were ruined, along with our family evening. Overall, it was a rather disappointing visit, especially for a place that comes with such high expectations based on its reviews. The poor service and lackluster food quality do not justify the prices, and I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

Lovely food although a bit of a wait for it

Not sure what has happened to this pub but waiting two hours on a quiet Monday service to only be served cold food with no apology offered is a very disappointing end to my birthday. Probably will not coming back again in a hurry.

This pub is one of our locals. We visited for a mid-week dinner. The staff were all very welcoming and the pub was busy with a friendly atmosphere. Our meals were very tasty and well presented. I had the market fish of the day (sea bream) which was cooked to perfection and my husband had fish and chips which he really enjoyed. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely pub with good food and great service. Especially nice and cosy with the fires on in the winter. The vegetarian menu could do with expanding a little but the rest of the menu is good.

Great food . Bit on the higher end . But you pay for what you get

Really disappointed by today's Sunday lunch. No ice, no Aperol, no chicken main course option and then to cap it off, no cheesecake. The pork had been sat under hot lights too long and was tough and the crackling was bullet-like. To be fair, the waitress bought some ice and the two puddings were reasonable but I'm sorry to say that we won't be back.

Wonderful pub with excellent food and service

The food was really great and plentiful however the menu said "jugs of gravy" and there was no additional gravy, just the gravy over the meal which wasn't enough.

Excellent. Food was closer to restaurant than pub quality. Also, our child's meal was served without salt which should be standard but sadly rarely is. Service friendly and professional. Recommended.

I would like to thank the wonderful staff who were working this morning (24th March) for making us so welcome! We’d travelled down from Notts for the button house tour and booked for breakfast at the duke. The welcome was wonderful, your staff are just lovely! The breakfast was delicious. It really was the best start to a great day. Thank you so much to the two gentleman who served and seated us. You were both first class.

The staff and food were excellent. Great menu choices and lots of lovely seasonal dishes. Generous portions too. Unfortunately the bar had no real ale but advertised two or three at the bar. The character pub is in a lovely area and highly recommended for lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Nice place, great food. I had a great experience eating with my family. The atmosphere was nice and friendly, the service was a bit late but maybe because we were in a rush otherwise I would not mind. I would go there again. I enjoyed the vegan pie!!

A very nice pub and great that’s it’s the only one nearby the station and West Horsley House. Can imagine it’s great on a summer’s day and a wonderful old worldy building. In a winter’s day there’s a nice roaring fire too. The garden probably is nice too although by a busy road. Maybe this was a nice coaching inn once upon a time. Only minus mark was the Pride was off and a bit vinegary. It was promptly replaced without question, but wasn’t taken off sale. I’ve many a pint of Pride in my time and this one wasn’t saleable. If they sort their ale management out they’d be better for it.

I have been to this pub before and had a good experience, so was very disappointed with my visit a few weeks ago. The food wasn’t great; my partner hardly touched his pie; he told me it was very overdone and dry. The steak Diane was only ok, which was a shame considering the rather high price tag. My chips were very overdone. The sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fondant were both overdone, so lacklustre. I wouldn’t return I’m afraid.

We stayed at De Vere hotel for 2 nights in February 2024 and decided to have a birthday dinner at the Duke of Wellington. We enjoyed it a lot as the service and the food were brilliant. We will definitely come back one day!

Azing food and very friendly staff

Came to the Duke of wellington on a whim as we were stuck in the area with nothing to do, staff are absolutely lovely especially Jo who helped us out massively and was just a general delight. Top tier customer service! If I had cash on me I would’ve tipped Jo, couldn’t recommend this place more. The mocktails were beautiful too!

It's the second time we've been here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely lovely. Couldn't fault the visit from the welcome to the farewell. We will definitely recommend The Duke of Wellington.

After a long drive to Surrey to visit the family, we stop at the Duke for refreshments and invite some people to join us. Good atmosphere, great beer garden, good spot for cars too 😉

Had breakfast here this morning - food was great, service was both friendly and efficient - couldn't ask for more. It was very quiet, but as we left we realised why - most people were sitting at the outside tables enjoying the winter sun.

5 stars all round! What a fantastic country pub with lots of character, also so cosy, relaxed and warm and the food was tasty too! We had the beef and ale pie with mash and cabbage, delicious! Lovely waiting staff too, can’t fault it.

Lovely looking pub but couldn't be said the same for the breakfast, slow service, small portions, over priced for what it was and the eggs had more shell and water in it then egg it self. Only positive was the bacon. Unfortunately won't be coming back.

We recently held a pre-wedding evening dinner here on a Saturday evening (We we’re married at The De Vere Horsley the following day). My wife and I had visited for dinner about a month prior to check out the food/facilities and to book this. In all we had about 20 family & friends join us, originally we were given a special set menu to chose from but no one liked it, so the pub kindly let us all chose from the main menu and we had sent in our preorders a few days prior. Overall the evening went well, most people were happy with their food, we both had steak and it enjoyed it, a few said they were disappointed and one Rump Steak was very over cooked so I returned it on behalf of my uncle where the manager agreed to remove it from the bill, which was both welcomed and fair. We ate inside but being a warm evening it was too hot, I really think some AC would be beneficial in that area. Later we moved out onto the grass where everyone enjoyed the rest of the evening with drinks. As a side note, if anyone reading this is thinking of doing similar, as a top-tip I would advise you try to ensure everyone pays up at the end of the evening, as we’ve since been presented with a bill from some who didn’t pay!! It’s very hard to work out who!

It is a very popular pub. The food is great. We came here for our wedding anniversary meal, which we mentioned in passing in conversation when we were booking the table during the same day. When we got to the pub at the time of our booking, the staff congratulated us on our anniversary and bought us a card. Very welcoming, we would love to visit again.

A beautiful pub with such friendly staff. The service was lovely and quick. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. I had the dirty vegan burger and I would really recommend it. I wish we had something local like this to us as it was a lovely place to visit. I hope one day we can come back again.

Had a recent meal on a £100 voucher, we had the Tempura Prawns & Salmon with Crab, then the Seabream and Steak Diane, one glitch, the sauce was cold, but not a problem, they immediately took the cold sauce and replaced with hot sauce. Each had a glass of wine. When we asked for the bill, with the voucher we only had £5 to pay, Jaz was fantastic and said that due to sauce being cold that we had nothing to pay. Fantastic customer service and the whole team were very helpful and pleasant. Will definitely go again. Will say that parking can be an issue, so go early if you have a dinner reservation.

Pub food at fine dining prices but without the quality. Portion sizes disappointing. I had the seasonal special costing £28. A lamb shank no bigger than a child’s hand. With 2 new potatoes halved. 1/2 a corn and salad. Brought it to the managers attention. Given more potatoes undercooked. Won’t be back.

Had an issue where we got forgotten about and waited over an hour for bread and then another 30 minutes for starters but the staff were lovely - the manager in particular - and we were apologised to and a discount was applied. Quality of a place is determined by the response when things go wrong. I adore the food here and haven’t had a bad meal (crab starter and steak were wonderful as ever) but the Vietnamese salad my friend had was pretty poor - lacking sauce and flavour and no sweet chilli on request. Asked another member of staff and sweet chilli was eventually produced but by then was a bit late - go there but avoid that dish!
