Classy, traditional pub, great sercive and excellent food. Weekdays its less crowded. Best Fish&chips I ate ín London.

The Steak and Ale pie was a small prefabricated frozen pie that looked like it came from Costco. Was small and almost no meat. Clearly just heat and serve. Chips were also essentially fast food fries like from McDonald’s.

Pretty and atmospheric pub with subpar food.

À déjeuner le 04 février, j’ai apprécié la fraîcheur des aliments composant la salade, le prix raisonnable, mais surtout, pour le français que je suis, le style britannique fait de calme et de confort. La serveuse était très agréable et professionnelle. J’y reviendrai !

Pasé a tomar un trago rápido. El pub es acogedor y pequeño. Era viernes por la noche, así que estaba lleno. Tenían la chimenea en la que era genial ya que hacía frío. Era difícil encontrar dónde sentarse. Finalmente logramos encontrar 2 heces después de 10 minutos. Tardaron aún más en pedir bebidas, solo había 1 persona en el bar y debido a que estaba ocupado tomó años. Después de 20 minutos, finalmente pedimos y conseguimos nuestras bebidas. No es culpa del servidor, deberían haber tenido más gente trabajando. Es un buen pub, pero solo le dio 3 estrellas debido a la lentitud del servicio.

A Sam Smith's pub that was lovingly restored a few years ago. The downstairs is beautiful and there are booths along one side of the bar, each seating up to around six people. Food is served in the upstairs bar, which has comfy sofas. As always with Sam Smith's, all the drinks and snacks are their own brands.

Nice old school pub, that’s a chain and they got really good vibes. If that’s your first time in UK you must go there !

25 min wait for a pint that was rather underwhelming.bad drinks, bad service

We came for lunch and sat upstairs. Ordered hot drinks, a curry and sandwiches from the menu and that's when the barman told us there were neither of these available to order (the hot drink machine has been broken for a while). We changed our orders and asked for water (that was warm and disgusting). The food was medium and clearly not typical pub food. We kept our coats on because we were cold. The interior of the pub does look nice though it's not the best experience I've had in a pub.

It has this sad and kind of dark (ground floor) atmosphere, and the two floors are really different. Food and beer was Ok. Kind waiter kid on upper floor.

Horrible experience with food poisoning yesterday. Service is awful. We entered dining area on the first floor and at that moment there was no spot so we just waited, asked the waitress if she thinks any table will get free and she rudely answered that she doesn’t know. Also didn’t greet us and we had to approach her. A lovely couple that was drinking beer at the same table freed the spot for us and we had to ask the waitress ourselves to clean the table and make the order. She was acting extremely unfriendly. We saw that the bigger table became vacant and before food came we asked if we can move there and she said that they keep this table for bigger groups. 2 mins later the table got occupied by two guys who only came for drinks and she didn’t care for it. She just threw plates on our table and left without saying anything else. Today I’m suffering from food poisoning the whole day - I don’t know if it was appetizers or main chicken schnitzel. It can be anything else. Avoid this place at all costs.

Great place to meet locals and have a drink upstairs. Great ambiance and a place to see if you are a tourist.

Great traditional decor. Sam Smiths are usually reliable pubs but unfortunately we could only stay for one drink here as the downstairs bar was very cold. And it seemed that the barman working on the night we visited wasn't very experienced at pouring pints which was a bit of a surprise for an institution like Sam Smiths!

Terrible service, manager is awful. Freezing cold. Manager treated us terribly. Nobody knows what they are doing. Would not recommend to anyone who is sane.

Very traditional pub for good English eating and drinking

My fiancé and I visited the pub on the 26th of October 2024, around 7 PM. We liked the atmosphere, and despite it being overcrowded on the ground floor, we decided to go upstairs. On the first floor, we met a staff member who was working at the bar, and we mentioned that we wanted to have dinner and not just drinks. From the very beginning, the staff member wasn't welcoming at all. She offered us a table for two, with one chair and one small stool. When we asked if we could change the stool for a chair (there were plenty of free chairs around), she rudely said no and insisted that there were no other chairs available, even though we could see others. We explained that the stool was not comfortable, and since we wanted to have dinner, we would have to sit on it for more than an hour. It seemed like she wasn't in the right mood. After a couple of minutes, we asked if we could change the table, as two tables were available. She said that we couldn't because she was keeping those tables in case a bigger group came in, adding an eye roll. We accepted the fact that she didn't want to change the chair and we accepted her refusal to change the table, but we could not accept her attitude. Not willing to have a friendly discussion, she rushed us and cut us off, rolling her eyes as if we were taking up her time. We left immediately because we didn’t want to be served by staff who seemed like they didn’t enjoy their jobs in hospitality, despite our desire to try the pub's menu and enjoy the atmosphere.

Una experiencia horrible esta noche. Vine aquí con 3 amigos para tomar unas copas y una comida y me senté arriba en el comedor privado. La pobre señora detrás de la barra servía bebidas y comida sola a más de 12 mesas. Tardó una eternidad en ordenar debido a su necesidad de atender el bar y servir comida a las mesas. Necesitaba un mínimo de dos miembros del personal y la oradora estaba claramente molesta y subrayada por la situación. Pedimos 3 bocadillos (calamar frito, pollo y salchicha) y algunas patatas fritas. El calamar frito fue realmente horrible. 4 trozos de calamares fritos, cocidos y masticables, que parecían aros de cebolla directamente del congelador (cuesta £ 8 . 50 ) . Las 4 minúsculas piezas de pollo eran sosas y decepcionantes. Esperaría el doble de la cantidad por el costo. La salchicha y las patatas fritas estaban bien. Cuando me quejé, la mujer detrás de la barra me tiró el dinero para pagar el calamar, después de hablar con el gerente. Ella no escuchó mis otras quejas y claramente estaba demasiado estresada con la carga de trabajo. Fue extremadamente grosera, pero no la culpo en lo más mínimo después del puesto que fue puesta por la dirección, cubriendo tanto trabajo sola. Cuando bajé a hablar con el gerente, me dijeron que no estaban disponibles y no estaban por aquí durante la siguiente hora y media. Nunca volvería aquí por comida de nuevo basado en mi experiencia.

Atmosphere, quality and choice of beers, and excellent fish & chips!

A cracking pub with a vintage feel, serving up a brilliant selection of beers and tasty, well-prepared grub. The atmosphere’s wonderfully cosy, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. Definitely worth a visit!

The location is good and the staff's hospitality is great.

Way understaffed, nice bar man, but lady who seemed to be in charge told us we were cut off at 20:00 after 2 beers and a shot…we’ve been there for over and hour and a half…almost a bit shameful

Another peaceful and calm Sam Smiths pub. Definitely not clone town here, I'd recommend giving their beers a try. They're good and far more natural tasting than many others. Staff very pleasant and the entire place was really clean and tidy, even the loo's! Take care people.

Lots of little "nooks" around the bar which I haven't seen in a pub since I was a kid (times were different then). Drank an organic beer whose name I cannot remember but was very good. Nice pub.

Antique atmosphere, friendly staff, it was hot, but I had a nice cold beer.

Nice pub in the heart of London, we enjoyed our meal very much. The place was a little quiet, so the atmosphere was not that great, but given it was a Monday around 1330, it might of been that people where at work and not many tourists made it here.

Love this pub. But I did call to see if up stairs was open Saturday in the day and the man on the phone said it was. Got there and was told it didn't open until six. It's quite difficult to get a seat when up stairs is closed

A hopeless bartender, mean and ugly

Nice pub, beautiful interior, typical smith pub, with only there own alcohols on tap. Only one bar lady on a Wednesday.

The food tasted great. However, it was quite pricey even though the portions were small. They only give a few chips, a couple of them being quite hard in texture. The fish was amazing and the beer also tasted great. Overall the experience was okay and I would consider visiting again.

We will definitely be going back. We were with some American friends who wanted to see a traditional English pub and try some beers. Fantastic interior and great staff who couldn't have been more friendly.

Found the food to be very average. I was excited to have the fish and chips on my visit to London but this was underwhelming to say the least. Thankfully the gelato at Bilmonte two doors down came to salvage the evening.

Great little spot in Soho really cosy and a nice feel to the place. Staff really nice and drinks were good.

The Duke of Argyll was a lifesaver when taking my daughter to London for the first time. The staff were A1 and made us feel so comfortable. Less than 10 minutes from M&M world and China Town, will definitely be back for a child free trip before the year is out.

Very traditional English pub with a lovely and cozy atmospher. Review update: I've been coming to this pub during the last year and have to say that's very unique, especially coz of the great variety of Samuel Smith beers they have here. The bitters are my favorite ones, and recently tried the new Alpine lager and was good was well.

I love visiting here when I am near Soho. The pubs in that area can get pretty touristy and the Duke still keeps its charm. We enjoyed sitting upstairs on the plush sofas at the big wooden tables. The food was fresh and well made and it came quickly. We had fish and chips and the kids the chicken burger. Which he still raving about. The service is only lacking because of understaffing. Which means they are slow to clean the tables. This is an issue all over Europe, so for me not a problem.

We arrived at 8.40pm and they wouldn't let us in.

If you are looking for a traditional place to eat fish and chips and have a beer, that's the one!

Most pleasant pub experience of my life. Normal pub downstairs, but upstairs was a quiet oasis with an open fire, lovely vintage leather sofa, and nice tea served in a pot. I could hardly believe how nice it was.

Very suggestive place near Piccadilly Circus. The pub is structured on several floors: the actual pub is located on the ground floor, while the restaurant is on the first floor. I only stopped for dinner, so I can only say that the quality-price ratio is good (but nothing special), as we didn't spend much; the burger was good and so was the chicken, which had a strange (sometimes more or less strong) sweet aftertaste. Already in the restaurant alone, there is a large selection of beers, which can be tasted before choosing (since they are on tap). The environment is very characteristic. IMPORTANT: during the time we went the kitchen closes at 9pm, so you have to order before that time!

Great place for a quick bite before a show. We ordered dinner and drinks at the bar, in the restaurant section. Can't remember what I ordered, but I know I was satisfied with the time it took to serve the food and my dinner. Traditional British pub food.

One of my favorite pubs in London, make sure to checkout upstairs

We were early for dinner before the theater (Piccadilly Theater), so we popped in here for a pint. Were thrilled to find a wood fire burning in this beautiful, cozy pub. Had a tasty low-alcohol IPA beer (3.2%) -- they only serve their own brews (no commercial brands). It was late afternoon on a Monday so just us (and one other patron) and the friendly bartender. Highly recommend.

I’ve been to this pub a few times - usually a great atmosphere with a nice library room upstairs for a pint and some chat. Downstairs is a bit small with insufficient standing / perching space but otherwise a nice quaint pub. Good Sam Smith Taddy Lager on tap as well!

Fish and chips plus draft local beer, tipicaly British. Something between local pub and restaurant, both for interior and food. Not so lively like in pubs, but the place where you can spend quality times tallking with friends.

Booths are good for privacy, victorian look, great bitter beer brewed themselves. Friendly bartender. Was £5.50 a pint which I thought was good!

Fantastic vibe. My wife and I were here on a Saturday around 17:00-17:30. The ambiance was fantastic and crowded downstairs. We tried a couple of Samuel “Sam’l” Smith organic fruit beer (bottled): perfect and smooth. Very friendly bar men. There was no music playing, which was the perfect place to enjoy a beer while having a good conversation.

We had dinner in this pub, found by chance in the Soho area, on Saturday evening. Typical English pub, on the ground floor they only served drinks while on the first floor they also served dinner. Stunning location, fireplace, quiet environment and typical English furnishings. We took two traditional dishes, a shortcrust pastry pie with a sort of meat stew inside with a side of mashed potatoes and carrots sautéed in butter with gravy sauce and then a dish with sausages, onion rings and mashed potatoes, both really excellent . To order you have to go directly to the counter to the waiter, the only one present that evening, and pay immediately. Unfortunately the dishes arrived after an hour and after a reminder from us. Overall very good experience. I definitely recommend it.

Look man, to be charged £7+ for a pint of anything in a Sam Smith's pub should not happen. What planet are we living on? And what kind of society do we want to be? Not this one, my friends.

Characteristic English pub on two floors. We had dinner with typical local cuisine: fish & chips, ale pie and bamger & mash. All delicious and at the right price!

It's all changed inside from the last time I visited. Why have private booth's?

Really nice staff, the girl who served us was great. You can hear yourself think which makes a refreshing change to most pubs round this area. Cute little boothy cubby holes which fit around 6 Sat, more stood - they are an exciting feature and make you feel secluded and cosy.

Food was okay, nice authentic pub. But the service was awful! Didn’t help us, didn’t say a word actually. There was a sign saying to wait until you are seated by the staff. He didn’t come to assign us a table. He saw us, but ignored it. It was not busy at all! Multiple tables were empty! Cocktails on the card were not available at 19 ‘o clock. Didn’t stay longer then we had to and would never go back.

Le lieu est très jolie et la cuisine délicieuse ! Mais le service est déplorable.. nous arrivons au premier étage, le serveur ne nous adresse pas la parole, ne nous installe pas. Nous avons choisit nous même notre table et avons installé les couverts. Il faut indiquer notre choix de plat au comptoir mais le serveur ne nous le dit pas.. heureusement que notre voisine de table nous a prévenu.. dommage car très beau lieu

Bediening was super slecht! We kwamen als enige aan, er waren twee tafels vrij, maar er stond een bord dat we moesten wachten. De ober keek ons maar niet aan, ookal stond de toog op een halve meter van de toog. Nadien zijn we toch maar gewoon gaan vragen om te gaan zitten. Zonder woorden wees hij ons dan maar verder. De tafel waar we aan zaten werd pas 10 minuten later leeg gemaakt, maar biet schoon geveegd. Er kon geen lach af, geen graadje vriendelijkheid NIKS. Bestellen moest dan aan de toog, ook daar is er nog niet eens een minimum aan vriendelijkheid en amper oogcontact. We zien constant mensen wachten en tafels die vrij zijn. Maar niemand die communiceert naar de wachtende mensen. Het eten was zeer matig. Het enige pluspunt ‘voor mij’ is het karakteristieke interieur. Had ik dit op voorhand geweten was ik ergens anders gegaan voor het karakteristieke interieur. Afrader tot en met om iets te gaan eten!

Great pub. Really cool atmosphere. We came here on NYE and had a BBQ-Cheese-Burger with chips and a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. One of the best burgers and chips I have eaten in London so far. The pudding was really tasty, too. Great beers to choose from. Super good service! Thanks for a great start of NYE! Happy new year to the team! We'll be back on our next trip to London!

Très long l attente pour manger

Absolutely disgusting arrogant customer service. I ordered fish and chips, which cost £17 and the fish tasted watery and there was about 10 chips on my plate. When I asked if this could be improved I was told that the manager worked in the kitchen and that they said that was just the portion size. Nobody came to speak to me, check out the situation, or offer anything whatsoever. I will never eat here again and wouldn't recommend it at all.

Atmosfera perfetta per un pub inglese con tanto di camino acceso. Merita. Estremamente caldo e accogliente.

Wyjątkowe miejsce z klimatem. Bardzo sympatyczna i serdeczna obsługa. Jedzenie pychotka. Piwka kraftowe. Ceny trochę wyższe ale uważam, że było warto.

London Cinema Trip - 20-10-23 Wandering around London and just of piccadilly circus I found this pub, popped in and it had Bitter on tap!!! Amazing in London, served quick and loved the private boiths in the pub, sat in one and had my pint, a good place to go and relax, toilets tho are down a spiral stone staircase that some may find hard to use.

Food was so good and quick! Nice place not that busy on weekends. I would go back again!

Lovely olde worldly pub great bear really friendly staff

What a wonderful find. Downstairs is social and louder. There are private tables you can sit at or be in the open area. Upstairs was quieter and we had a lovely view of the busy streets below. There are a couple rooms to choose from. The bartenders and food upstairs was delicious. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked. I had a dark and stormy which was also yummy.

Came for quick lunch today, food was fantastic, service could have been better, didn’t ask us how the food was, lucky it was nice and the drinks as always at Sam Smiths were amazing!!
