Nice pub, popped in for a couple of pints. Good selection of beers, lagers & ciders. They also have a new outside area for eating and a separate beer garden which is a great addition.

Possibly the best roast dinner I ever had. Beef was perfect and plenty of it. Veg also delicious. Service fantastic and a lovely place. We will definitely be returning.

My new favourite Sunday roast pub in the area. Everything is cooked to perfection, all flavours are well-balanced and complement each other. Beef falls apart, so tender. The chef has gone out of her way to very successfully accommodate for my husband's particular dietary needs as well. We'll definitely be back!!

I love that place. The food is delicious (pork belly with gravy- AMAZING), the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is nice. We’ve been there a few times and have never been disappointed. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend

Had a pleasant lunch on a Saturday, was quiet no need to book at that time. Service could have been improved, only in that we had to ask for cutlery as want brought before the plates or with them. Pleasant staff though. A friend I was with was disappointed that there wasn't any steak on the menu.

Wow!! We stumbled across this lovely pub on the way back from visiting Imber Village. It was outstanding 10/10 the roast dinner was amazing I had the pork and my partner had the beef, service was quick and lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend. The also had Pizzas and Burgers and other items on the Sunday lunch menu.

Great Christmas menu. Very tasty and good portion sizes. The staff are very warm.

Staff Christmas meal. A well planned menu with vegetarian options for each course. Cheerful staff made the event really special. The booking system is difficult, with e-mails disappearing into junk mail at each end, but worth persevering with.

Walking distance from the Airbnb we stayed in , so it was perfect. Popped in a couple of times and shared some starters which were very good. Posh chips were amazing!

A spacious pub that was quiet for a thurs night but we were in early evening..lovely staff..i had the chicken in a sauce that was tasty with new potatoes and veg..my husband had ham egg and chips that was okish..worth a visit.

Great for a Sunday lunch or dinner with a good selection of sweets too. Most beers had run out when we were there because of a local event over the weekend but the local brew was excellent.

Very old decor, the barmaid was polite and friendly, new waitress, didn't have a clue about wine. Took our order, I wanted the salmon but was also told there was a seafood special, cod wrapped in parma ham, with Mediterranean veggies and crushed potato. So that's what I went for. My sister wanted cod and chips. The waitress was quick to return to tell me they have no med/veggies which I found peculiar as we were eating at 6 pm early evening. I asked for a mixed salad substitute. Then the food came out. Mine looked good but the cod was overcooked and dry. My sister's chips tasted overcooked and oily think they need an oil change in the fryer. I won't be returning!

Sat out side the front of the pub, which is on a not very busy road, as the back need the grass cutting. Didn't eat but the menu was extensive and well priced. The bar staff were friendly and the best and wine were all well priced.

Had a fantastic experience here earlier today for our Sunday lunch. Really enjoyable food and great service. We had 2 young boys (5 & 7) who both have very picky eating habits. Staff here went above and beyond to accommodate their needs and helped make the entire experience a really great one for our family. Thank you to everyone at the Duke for making it a great meal out today :)

This is the 3rd time over the past few months of trying to book a table through this system of booking. Left messages with no recall on all occasions, I’ve been a customer with this pub for over 6 years and since it’s been taken over I have had to look somewhere else. So this is not about its food it’s about trying to eat it !!! .

Been for lunch and dinner in the last couple of days. Both times the food was excellent. Lovely country pub.

Under new management since Nov last year. Unsurprisingly, not very busy in the late afternoon on a winter Monday!! But beer was good and the staff were friendly and chatty. There is some restoration cleaning up the paintwork but I enjoyed my time there. Definitely worth a visit.

Popped in on the way back from Longleat, had the pork belly roast with the biggest piece of crackling 😋😋😋😋.... It was delicious 👍. My granddaughter had the sausage and chips, the sausages were quality and the chips were huge... You could tell they were hand cut. The service was great and felt very welcome.

What a great meal! Dropped in for Sunday lunch. The wait was negligible despite the place being pretty busy and when the food arrived, it was very good. For a start, it was HOT. The roast spuds and veg. were fine. To be absolutely fair, they didn't set the world alight, but they were certainly above average. Personally I am not a great fan of fried stuffing balls, though they did taste nice. The meat was the real clincher. Normally if the place makes any effort, it goes into the accompaniments, while the meat...... well it's just meat innit? The Duke is different. They REALLY pay attention to the meat and I can honestly say it was the tastiest and tenderest I have had, away from home. That goes for both my wife's beef and my pork. Absolutely unbeatable. And finally, after 35 years, I've found a place outside of Yorkshire that can make a Yorkshire Pudding worthy of the name.

I went here with 16 walking group friends and The Duke certainly gave us a wonderful Christmas lunch. We'd pre-ordered Turkey Rolls and Soup, all allergies catered for, which was delicious but on top of this the pub gave us: tea and coffee plus a bowl of hot, crispy chips for each table. Thank you The Duke boss.

Quick friendly service with a good selection of food. Good portions.

Shared a Camembert and chips with my mate, washed down with a couple of pints each.all for under £40.00. Plenty of food, the cheese beautifully baked and the chips weee excellent, chunky hot and crispy. Friendly service offering good gone cooked food. The head chef is French and has advised that there will be a new menu and several French classics will be appearing on a regular basis. If you are looking for a place to have a pub lunch or dinner, give the Duke a try, I am sure you will be impressed.

We took my mother-in-law today, for mothers day. Fantastic. Food was great as was the service. The chef came out to each table to check all was OK, nice touch. Will definitely go again.

Absolutely fantastic local pub, the host's and the customers are very welcoming, the beers are very reasonably priced and there bar menu's are competitively priced too, I believe I have found my new local.

Lunch £13 for 3 courses exceptional value. Good food. Helpful staff. Good venue. What more can you ask. Went there last Wednesday with a disabled person and she was made extra welcome and made very comfortable with extra space around her for her poorly legs. Have several times and will be going there again soon. Well done. We were made very welcome. Thank you all staff especially the chef who came out to ask us if we were happy with our meals.

Booked a family buffet for 14 with menu to my specifications which was provided beyond expectations with fantastic home made dishes. We were warmly welcomed by Roger and Kay and we all had a wonderful time in the lovely friendly, relaxed atmosphere of The Duke.

Latest Update: Visited again in August 2021: Extremely pleased with the Sunday roast. We felt there was an improvement in the roast beef this time but we would prefer the meat less rare. Perhaps we should have asked. The owners are very pleasant and we would recommend the Duke for Sunday lunch. ------------------------------------- We visited the pub for Sunday Roast on ?May 2nd. Outdoor seating was arranged well, considering covid rules are in place. Staff and owners were very pleasant and friendly and I certainly felt welcomed. We had a choice of being under a marque or in the garden. Now for the criticism - sorry it had to be said. We ordered what I belived to be roast beef but the beef was not what I would have expected as it did not appear to be from a roasted joint and was actually not very tender. This was a pity as the rest of the food was excellent. The price was very good, particularly for a small roast and portions were quite adequate. We chose to sit in the garden but unfortunately about a dozen people arrived, all with a dog. All were behaved apart from one very noisy small dog that the owner could not keep quiet. We also noticed at a nearby table that one or perhaps two small dogs were allowed to sit on a table and I don't think from a hygiene position that should be allowed, irrespective of size of animal. I do hope when we go again for Sunday Roast that my points may have been addressed. I am really sorry to be critical particularly when you have recently reopened but it's intended as constructive criticism. I wish the owners much success with the business in the future as it was unfortunate they were affected so much during the past year or so. Overall I thought the pub was very nice and this would most certainly be a favourite if I lived closer. Whoever reads this please visit the Duke at Bratton as I am sure you will enjoy.

Had lunch at the Duke today. Very good food, in fact I had the best Steak and Stilton pie I’ve had in many many years. Staff were very friendly and attentive delivering a quick and efficient service. We will definitely be visiting again.

Went for sunday lunch sorry to say not very impressed with the sunday roast,carrots not cooked and meat was abit on the raw side and very chewy,the dessert was still frozen,so sorry to say will not be going there again.

Forgot to take face masks with us on a dog walk but a lovely local guy went in for us to send a waitress out , so we could order drinks, good to see a village pub thriving.

A lovely little pub with great drinks and food! I've only been to The Duke a handful of times, but I can happily say that the level of service is amazing and the staff are incredibly hospitable. There's a good selection of drinks and food at The Duke, I can especially recommend the Balti, and the roast dinners are also wonderful. Just enjoyed my first wonderful takeaway meal from the Duke in the second lockdown. They did us proud in the first lockdown and now continue with the same high standards in difficult times. The roast dinners are epic. Hot, plenty of it, and of superb quality, and I know a good roast. Roger is a great cook. His game pie, if you are fortunate enough to get one, is a bit special. Spectacularly good value and a friendly and efficient service, and the local beers they sell now are high quality. Well deserved 5 stars. We will be back, and back, and.....

Lovely local pub. Family run and friendly. Caters to vegans, vegetarians and gluten free needs. Good choice of drinks, and a quality, homemade menu. Made a great effort to stay safe - one way system. Sanitiser at the doors and for each table. We were seated quickly and encouraged to order from the table. They didn't allow guests to drink at bar for distancing. Tables were cleverly sectioned off with shower curtains. I'm really hoping this pub can make it through all the restrictions - they do a takeaway menu so if you get the chance, please support this local gem.

Roast dinner was lovely apart from the deep fried potatoes instead of proper roasted. However, Yorkshire's puddings and rest of the veg was great. Didn't choose a good pud as not home made. Will certainly give it another chance.

Having ate and drank here on multiple occasions I can safely say this Pub is excellent. The food under new ownership is exemplary and well priced for its great taste. The drink is priced competitively and the locally sourced beer is extremely to my liking. Definitely recommend. (My previous review of this location was for the old owners and needed updating for the new staff, I was not critical and gave it four stars; nonetheless I cannot stress how much the new owners outshine their predecessors. Visited The Duke at Bratton 1st time for lunch last Wednesday with my parents and sister who are here visiting from Scotland. All meals were really lovely and staff were very attentive and friendly. Enjoyed it so much we're returning with my husband for dinner this evening. Good to see they have live music on some weekends. Hoping to be back with friends when our visitors have gone home

New Management have worked hard to vastly improve the food. Good Vegan option . Excellent fish and chips and tasty and nicely presented roast pork

Friendly enough staff but had hoped to have Sunday Lunch. Kitchen closed at around 1645. No indication on website that this was the case. Such a shame!

I had the most wonderful meal here at the weekend!! The ‘social distancing’ (I hate covid terminology!) measures are carried out well, creating a personal atmosphere, rather than Perspex screens with yellow and black tape.
