The Duck Inn in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Excellent lunch as part of Norfolk Restaurant week. Had 3 courses, delicious chicken breast with parsnip purée, fondant potato, cavolo Nero and mushroom sauce. My husband had bream with a Chinese twist. We both had the steamed Guinness sponge pudding with whiskey caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Staff are lovely and very attentive despite a busy restaurant. Have been meaning to visit for ages and it was worth the trip! We will be back.

What a lovely hidden gem. We are staying locally and wanted a place for lunch. The team/staff were just lovely. The menu options during Norfolk restaurant week was a great offer and it was hard to choose. The wine and local brew also great. Definitely recommended, I really hope people seek out this lovely pub/restaurant

I hadn't been to the Duck for a few years and was interested to see if it was as good as in the past. Four of us went for Norfolk Restaurant Week at lunchtime. We all had three courses and can honestly say every course was good as was the service. The star of the show for me was the cheese soufflé starter......absolutely delicious !

Soo good! We had a Sunday dinner and it was great. Really good value for money too. Lots of different veg, other than the usual carrots ect. Swede was very good. We will be back!

Used to be our North Norfolk favourite, but has lost its way a bit since the change of management . Service was good , but food very overpriced and not that great . Trying too hard with fancy food options and not quite delivering

Local to us, so we have been a few times but todays lunch was really exceptional. Warm welcome with a drink at the bar, well made Aperol Spritz which is always a good start. Starters of Beef Fritter and Scotch Egg. Neither sound particularly inspiring but both were truly excellent. My husband raved about the Scotch Egg…..warm with a perfect runny yolk and a well balanced curry mayonnaise. My beef fritter with red onion marmalade was also top notch. Mains were chicken and Dover Sole. Both perfectly cooked with fabulous plentiful sides. Dessert was Crème Brûlée ( which apparently was better than the one I make!) and honeycomb ice cream. Both excellent. We also had a fabulous bottle of well priced Chablis. Service was very well paced….i hate it when 3 courses are flung at you within an hour. We had time to enjoy everything but nothing took too long. We wouldn’t change a thing and are lucky to have this on our door step.

Stopped off for the 'hotdogs and music" event £25 for two glasses of wine (and different wines) in plastic cups is too much Ok the food was nice Piped Country and Western was a let down

A friendly and warm welcoming from the front of house and bar staff, an excellent and eclectic wine list, and extensive menu of amazing starters and even broader range of main course - what an experience. One of our favourite places to eat, that delivers a great atmosphere and fantastic food every single time. Thank you Rachel and Jeremy (you’re a genius!!)

The interesting menu and bright surroundings were let down by an overpriced starter of scallops. Just 2 queen scallops and garnishing appeared for £15. One vegetarian main course of roasted celeriac was served without the advertised shitake mushrooms. When questioned, the manager said 'the chef forgot to add them' and left it at that. Not the attitude expected when paying a very full price for one's food.

Yet again another outstanding meal from the team at The Duck! From friendly welcomes all round to the hospitality of served drinks in the lovely garden this was a great experience. The vibe is great, the team can’t do enough to help and the food…. Well is there any wonder they are always fully booked - outstanding. This time we chose to stay over with friends and used the two amazing rooms, comfortable stylish and just so welcoming. We will be back…. And look forward to it! Thank you guys for making it a real experience

Mixed experience. Most of the food was very good, especially the beef starter and the lamb main course. However the portion sizes of the main courses were very small - much smaller than similar meals elsewhere. My grandaughter had the pasta childrens meal. She was not given any cutlery to eat it with. We gave her a fork from our own place setting. When we requested cutlery for her the waitresses response was to argue with us that she had a fork. The ham served as part of the dish had not been trimmed which was very offputting to a small child. The pieces of ham were bigger than 1 cm cubed which is too big for a small child, especially if she is not given a knife to cut them up with. We found the service abrupt which spoiled what would have been a special meal.

We enjoyed the roasted monkfish, absolutely exquisite combination of flavours beautifully cooked with great presentation. Certainly one of the best meals we’ve had during our trip - the Duck never disappoints. Charming, friendly service.

Lovely food but overpriced compared to other venues, the pub has a lovely decor and the staff some was nice and others abit abrupt and we waited nearly an hour for our lunch and we didn't have any starters I felt like we was forgotten about as other tables were getting served alot quicker I booked over the phone and I don't think it had been put through even though I did have 3 text messages to confirm my booking and my name was not on the list when I arrived

We had visited the Duck many times before but not for a number of years. As we had taken a cottage across the road for a week we ate there one evening. Well we weren’t disappointed, the service was excellent, the food some of the best we had that week and such a lovely restaurant. We eat out each night when we are on holiday and we couldn’t fault this place for price and quality. We will definitely visit again when we are next in Norfolk.

Having enjoyed The Duck Inn before we were keen to try it now there has been a change of ownership. We booked and mentioned that is was our daughter's birthday, this was never mentioned throughout the evening at all, though another local reasturant 2 weeks earlier had given me a card, and a small plate of odd items from the desserts and a few petit fours decorated with Happy Birthday written in chocolate sauce. To our meal, our daughter has the Burger which she said was very good, though the chips were the skinny sort that are pretty tasteless and go cold quickly. My wife and I both opted for the Roast Monkfish with curry spices, sweet potato Bombay, Massaman sauce, the fish was slightly over cooked and the spices were not present in heat or flavour, it was like tinned vegetable curry with a few small braised leeks, the portion was small, the rice that came with it was much needed to bulk out the meal, £28 for 2 pieces of Monkfish on tasteless veg. We shared 2 desserts between us, the salted caramel tart and the chocolate mousse cake was just like a chocolate brownie in a chocolate pastry case, again the portion sizes have shrunk and the prices have gone up. We went away disappointed and noting that we will not be returning here.

Mixed feelings on this one having visited and enjoyed the Duck Inn in its previous form many times. A good variety of offerings on the menu however felt it quite expensive even compared to its North Norfolk counterparts. The service probably was the biggest let down even on a quiet Thursday evening sitting. Our table and our neighbours being continually mixed up, so food and drinks were out of sync and offered up incorrectly, resulting in a quite a wait for our food. Not an issue normally, however the lamb I ordered was quite obviously rushed as while I'm not afraid of pink meat, mine was a minute or two the wrong side of it. Still ate it as had waited a good while for it to arrive. We both had starters and main, but with not that big portions had more than enough stomach space for dessert. However having another 25minute wait for our table to be attended to decided to call it a night and just get the bill and leave still a bit hungry. It may be we caught them on an off day, but it's a way for us to go especially for it, as we had that day.

We were travelling back to Burnham Market and wanted some lunch and found this wonderful family run pub restaurant and decided to stop. We were so glad we did, the atmosphere and decor were wonderful. Staff were helpful friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely superb and we could not fault it. We will definitely be back next time we are over that way. Thank you Rachel for looking after us

Very friendly staff! We popped in for a quick drink on our way through Docking and ended up tasting a new liquor 🍸 The barman was very knowledgeable about the drinks… will definitely go back for a meal next time ! Must place to visit 👍

Our first visit under the new management. Nice to see a busy service on a winter mid-week day. Overall I would say it was not quite as good as before, but, the standard was very high. I deliberately chose the hake main because it was a classic. Now not so many elements and not quite the crispness to the skin but still very enjoyable. Service was excellent and well paced. No tip is mandatory… you choose. I like that as it is a sign of confidence. Also the menu on all 3 courses has a very good range meaning those staying in the area could have meals there on consecutive nights that varied greatly. I can see us coming back.

First visit in a while and everything was exceptional. We stayed in The Feathered Nest room on NYE and the room was beautiful, comfortable (the biggest and comfiest bed) and sumptuous in every aspect. Dinner was top notch, lovely wine selection and the breakfast outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for Rachael and the team, completely accomodating in every aspect. 100% would recommend staying or visiting for dinner/breakfast and hope to be back in the not too distant future.

First time visiting since new management. Early supper for NYE. Very friendly service only criticism would be service was too quick but didn't spoil the evening . Starters were tasty if a little small . Superb roast pork and beef for main course.

This was our first visit with the new owners and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The welcome, service and ambience were all perfect. Then of course the menu and food was divine - cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. This will definitely be a place we return to.

Fabulous Sunday lunch . Have been coming to North Norfolk for many years & finally got round to trying here! We all had the roast which was beautifully cooked . Staff were all lovely & created a warm & friendly atmosphere ! We will be back next time we’re in the area.

Just stopped in on the off chance for an evening meal, so glad we did . What a find ! The landlady was friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. We loved it so much we persuaded her to let us go back for breakfast. They haven’t had the Inn very long, although they have been in the business quite awhile you could tell they love it.

The place is under new management and we went along with high hopes that it would be as good as before, but next time we may look at going elsewhere instead, sadly. The pigeon breast starter was plain and simple and very nice though the mushroom underneath was very greasy. Just the right amount of pink to keep the meat tender. The liver was overcooked, with no pink and therefore rather too firm, not good. This should be easy to get right. Also plain and simple with good red cabbage and mash, it could have been pepped up a bit with seasoning/spice. Sticky toffee pudding with generous amount of pecans was great, while the hazelnut brulée was not a happy combination. The service was fine and friendly, except that when the waitress asked after our meal she just said "OK" and moved on to both my comment that the liver could have been cooked less and my husband's that it was overcooked. A training point perhaps. For the price we would have liked proper napkins, perhaps a sweetmeat at the end, and the bill presented better than a rolled up scrap!

We visited The Duck for lunch as it was taking part in the Norfolk Restaurant Week and we were very impressed with the quality of their food. We will definitely be returning in future.
