The Duck At Yeoford in Mid Devon

Sunday roast wasn't great unfortunately. The beef was exceptionally chewy and when mentioned to the waiter the reply was something along the lines of "yes we know". Also the veg consisted of swede, carrot and cabbage which was quite uninspiring. Would expect more for £18.

We all had a great lunch. I am in a wheelchair, and they placed me by their woodburner where it was lovely and warm and the staff had a table that I could get my knees under. That is unusual, in my experience. Staff were lovely and food was magic

Fantastic food, deserving a Michelin star. A delightful meal enjoyed by all. Delicious food with good sized portions served with care and attention. A return visit is now essential, possibly the best meal we have had for many years!

Went today for Sunday lunch today with family following recommendation from a chef. Thank you for such a wonderful meal, we really enjoyed the relaxing environment - we could talk without having to shout as there was no music or tv so it felt very chilled. The waiting staff were absolutely lovely and very knowledgeable - we had some dietary preferences and catering for these was not a problem at all. I had the vegan Sunday roast, it was delicious - in fact it was the best vegan roast that I have had. I also had the vegan brownie which was perfect and presented beautifully . The Duck have a separate vegan menu so will definitely be back to work my way thru that! Thanks again to chef and staff! Sue

What great food and service here. Sarah gives such a warm welcome and the serving staff are friendly and attentive. The food is on another level. Whipped goats cheese crostini with candid walnuts and beetroot, was superb as was the curried cauliflower arancini with curried mayo. Then followed by ricotta and spinach ravioli with asparagus, Parmesan crisps and a wonderful sauce. The battered hake and chips beautifully cooked. I’m now a lover of chips but these were on a different level. I don’t normally like minted peas but boy were these great. This is a great gastro pub and we love going there.

Presently surprised, we’d finished work early and were looking like two builders wanting a fry up 😂 but were treated politely by the staff and offered menus including a vegan menu, We ordered a burger and the falafels and chips we sat outside In the sun, the food didn’t take long and was really nicely presented, you instantly know the chef is on his game, really really tasty and the chips were the best I’ve eaten, it’s immediately gone on my revisit list.the bar and restaurant I believe has recently had a revamp everything is spotless and clean. Loads of parking and lots of outdoor space with an area for children to play.

We are so very fortunate to have this absolute gem close to home. If anyone out there struggles to find somewhere that fits the bill then seriously look no further than the Duck at Yeoford !!, this country pub has been renovated to the highest standard and delivers excellence in every way, James works tirelessly in the kitchen to provide sumptuous, home-cooked and locally sourced produce which taste divine , the service is as you would expect , second to none . We have had a fabulous Sunday lunch here today as always and now cosy at home by a roaring log fire , thank you again Sarah and James and the team XX perfect Sunday :)

I came across an article online stating that The Duck was a top rated venue for a Sunday lunch, and I was not disappointed. Excellent drinks selection behind the bar and a friendly welcome. The Sunday lunch had 4 selections for starter, mains and dessert. I had goats cheese bon bons, which came with a lovely and sweet bed of roasted peppers. My partner had the pea and leek soup- I pinched a mouthful and it was packed with flavour. For mains I had pork shoulder- it was the largest piece of pork I think I've ever been served! The meat was tender, and the accompanying potato and stuffing terrine was a really nice change. My partner had roast beef, which came with roast potatoes and a massive yorkshire pudding. He really enjoyed it. We also had a bowl of veg to share- very generous portions! By this point I was stuffed, but really wanted to try the rhubarb crumble tart with custard ice cream. The custard ice cream was such a treat! I will definitely come back to the duck, it was worth the hour trip!

Ordered a lovely Take Away meal tonight from The Duck. Two large portions of Fish & Chips with crushed minted peas and tartare sauce. The whole meal was excellent and the fish very good quality. Excellent value for money. A lovely dinner before a spot of baby sitting. Will definitaly be back.

Came here last year, and reviewed positively, but today was so good I feel the need to review again! To begin, the staff were incredibly attentive, helpful and accommodating, especially helpful with dietary requirements. Polite and friendly. The food, today, was amazing ! I had the roast beef which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by delicious roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud. All the vegetables also great. Also our group had the roast lamb, apparently equally delicious! And as for the desserts, wow! I had the St Clements panna cotta with mango sorbet…. absolutely divine! The most delish panna cotta I’ve had! Really looking forward to returning.

We found this place with a stroke of luck. My partner and I visited Crediton for a fishing weekend. We arrived a bit early, so we Googled places nearby to have dinner. We arrived at The Duck and were welcomed by very friendly staff, who engaged in small talk and made sure we were happy during our visit (perfect). The chef in that kitchen has passion, and it shows in the food!! Attention to detail in presentation, and the tastes were top marks!!! Thank you. We pre booked the duck Sunday lunch after reading such good reviews and sadly we were so disappointed by the dreadful plate of food that was served . Our lunch order was very late by an hour and then when served up it was then recognised as taken down wrong by the waitress who had equally got the drinks wrong . The roast loin of pork was basically a plate of fat with hardly any meet and because it was all served wrong became cold while waiting for friends order to be rectified. When the waitress came back to collect our plates she asked how our meal was and we said that the meat was dreadful and not impressed she then replied with jovial apology and said she would speak to the kitchen . On return she then proceeded to inform us in again a very jokey manner that the chef , her husband had said that in the winter pigs are fattened up . In response to this we then said we didn’t order a plate of fat and 2 of us are actually chefs . We didn’t expect anything but to be told in such a blasé fashion without any thought to the fact this meal was absolutely not up to standard and £18!!! For a plate of fat !!! Will not recommending 😞

We visited with my wife’s mother on a recent road trip in the UK and very glad we did. The food we had - fish n chips and a lamb dish - were simply amazing and great value. The whitebait starter was very good and the house ale was also great. Service was friendly and efficient and overall it is a lovely pub/restaurant and highly recommended.

The pub is located a 2 minute walk from Yeoford Rail station so is easily accessible from Exeter if you want to find an excellent country pub and don't want to worry about driving. We visited on Saturday for dinner. The pub itself is spotlessly clean and well decorated. The tables are nicely spaced apart so you don't feel as though you are encroaching on other guests conversations. The service was second to none and we were well looked after throughout our visit. The menu is based on local produce and the food quality was excellent, I had fillet of beef which which simply melted in the mouth. The food is well priced for both the quality and portion size and you won't leave hungry. There is an excellent drinks menu and again well priced. Well definitely return next time we are in Devon.

We were recommended by a friend to eat at this restaurant. Once we were there the place was really cold and the service was poor . We waited an hour for food , When the food arrived it looked presentable but the taste and quality wasn’t as good as we thought it was going to be , Me and my partner are chefs and we know what good quality tasting food is like this was far from that .

This delightful pub-restaurant is tucked away in the countryside but it is worth making the effort to find it as the food and service are outstanding. Starters and mains were substantial and well-presented - but we did not have room to try the desserts so will have to return to sample these!

We as a group we all readily agree all the food was excellent. Two who needed to get any quickly had a variety of delicious nibbles. The rest ordered mains. The chicken schnitzel was juice and taste. One in the group had a customised meal - dairy and gluten free which was scrumptious and very filling. The rest had hake and chips which we agreed was one of the best fish and chips ever. Recommended going and seeing what you think!

This pub is worth the drive down the single track lanes! The food was absolutely delicious. I had cauliflower aranchini to start and the flavours were stunning, followed by a roast duck special. The duck was perfectly cooked and so tender but the best part was the crispy duck at the end. Others in our group had the beef which was also cooked to perfection. The chef really knows what he’s doing and I would love to eat here again. I didn’t hold out much hope of being able to book a table when I called in the day before but the manager was really accommodating and even offered us a semi-private dining space as we had children with us. I couldn’t find a children’s menu on the website and was concerned initially that it wasn’t a family venue, but they do offer a good children’s selection (really good home-made tasting pizza!) and even have play equipment outside which they are currently updating so I didn’t need to worry. It is quite a quiet pub however with a formal feel in the main restaurant areas so probably more considerate to eat early if you have young children. It was nice to see a good number of locals in the bar area and they run a little shop for the community- it seems like this pub is managing to offer a gastronomic experience but still function as a local pub and support the local community. We stayed at the nearby Troney Valley Escapes (also excellent) and it was a nice 45 minute walk up the country lanes to the pub and the shop was useful. They do takeaway on Thursday/ Friday and the fish and chips came recommended - maybe another time!

Have eaten here a few times, the food is always delicious. James incorporates the most delicious flavours into every dish. The service is always friendly and professional. This is a really special place.
