Delightful Friday lunch on a dim cloudy day. Efficient and friendly welcome and invited to have lunch by the wood stove in the bar as we were the only people booked into the restaurant. Good recommendation. Very cosy and absolutely excellent food with prompt unobtrusive service. Two courses for two £80 including tip. Wonderful venison and delicious puddings followed by coffee. Well worth a trip into the very scenic countryside.

First time we visited , excellent menu , great food and very friendly staff. This place is a little gem and needs great reviews to encourage others to go out of their way to experience the Drovers Inn. The views from the location were also very nice because of the autumn colours . Will be definitely recommending to all our friends and will be back.

Another must visit on our annual visit to Kirriemuir. It’s in a lovely location, easily accessible, and very nice interior. On Sunny days the garden is a lovely place to have a nice cold drink. Fortunately it was sunny the day we were there so a few drinks were enjoyed. We didn’t eat there this time but we have previously . The food is lovely, very well cooked and presented. It’s not the cheapest food, but worth it, particularly on a special occasion.

We visit the Drovers roughly 4 times a year as it’s nearly an hour from where we live but definitely worth the drive. My husband decided he wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday with a lunch for 22 last weekend here . Kim the manager was great confirming our booking in a private area and sending the menus and in return we pre-ordered our food which came out efficiently and extremely tasty. We had many friends & family who travelled even further that day who all throughly enjoyed the lovely food and setting of the Drovers. We cannot thank the waiting staff and chefs enough for their great service and fantastic food , delicious as always. The pina colada parfait was a big favourite. I would definitely recommend a visit here you will not been disappointed

Outstanding meals here. Our fourth lunch and everyone a winner. Winter or summer. Most of our meals out in Scotland only get to 6 or7 out of 10. Drovers Inn is easily a 9/10. The venison is outstanding. With two small fireplaces you almost hope for lousy weather.

Back to the Drovers 2 years after our first visit. The service was excellent and the food very good. The Monkfish dish blew away our guests )in a good way). Only minor criticism would be that my steak was a little pale and hadn’t been rendered top well, nevertheless was very tasty.

Disappointed with the meal, not very flavoursome… lots of hard broken chips and vegetables covered in butter, which isn’t to everyone’s taste. Bar very cold and dark so not welcoming… staff attentive and good provided a good service.

This place usually gets glowing reviews but I’m afraid it just doesn’t work for me. It was no more than average, and in some respects below average. Cocktails served in completely the wrong glasses, and not very authentic either. Food overcooked, staff disinterested. Sorry but this is an honest assessment of my experience.

A very disappointing meal at the Drovers Inn. As a vegetarian there were only three main meal options, my choice wasn't available leaving pasta or pasta! I chose, the rigatoni. Described as rigatoni with mushroom and truffle sauce, parmesan and wilted spinach. The dish was actually, overcooked rigatoni that didn't even hold it's shape in a cheese sauce with a few mushrooms and slimey spinach. It was a soggy pasta dish that a toddler would turn their nose up at. My husband had the pigeon starter and lamb loin, that was really good and I had the beetroot pate to start. All well presented, like something off Masterchef. Disappointing a professional chef didn't pay the same attention to the vegetarian menu.

A lovely country pub and restaurant, with very good parking. Outstanding food, beautifully presented. Good atmosphere and well furnished. The menu was imaginative and tempting. I had the loin of lamb which was extremely tender and extremely well cooked. The accompanying beetroot puree, vegetables, dauphinoise potatoes and gravy, were all full of flavour. Likewise, the final colada parfait. Can thoroughly recommend.

I have recently moved to the area and was looking forward to a lovely Mother's Day meal at The Drovers after it was highly recommended. Though the food and service was great, the overall experience was very disappointing. On arrival, we were informed our table was in a corner in the bar area despite booking a table at the restaurant. When I spoke to the manager, she was dismissive and informed me it would be a 45 minute wait for a table in the restaurant. The bar area was quiet, cold and had absolutely no atmosphere. During our meal, it was very upsetting to hear the manager speaking loudly to another customer how she had purposely 'over booked' and only had to "chuck" two tables in the bar. The manager clearly had no self awareness and was undoubtedly in earshot. Though the meal was delicious, I was not planning to spend £230 on a Mother's Day meal for the family to sit in a cold, quiet bar area! I will sadly not be back.

Absolutely first class from the welcome through the door to leaving. It was steak night and we were invited out for our friend’s birthday. It was sirloin in the menu and I opted for a rare to medium with the brandy and mushroom sauce. Due to an arm injury I struggle cutting food at the moment and the member of the serving team overheard me saying to my husband that he’d need to cut my steak. They kindly said not to worry and, if I preferred, they’d have the chef do that for me. When my steak arrived I was not disappointed! It was cooked and cut to perfection. I followed up with the white chocolate and raspberry gateaux. One word….Divine!! The service and food was absolutely top notch and all guests in our party of 4 reflected this. We’ll certainly be back!

Disgusted in the service from the manager Kim she must have me mistaken as a different person and has accused me of complaining every time I’m in there as I have never complained before I would class my self as a good customer will a food bill of £100+ most times and this time I was talked to like rubbish Appalling treatment of a customer and refused to let me speak to the owner can’t complain about the boy who served us as he was a lovely young man but this time we got referred to Kim and well she’s accused me of sending a fillet steak back last time I was there what I have never ordered as I don’t eat fillet steak! My husband has complained once in the past over raw lamb and they then gave him the same lamb back what he still paid for I’m so upset over they way I have been spoken to also she told me she won’t forget me like I’m some kind of deviant would not recommend place used to be 10/10 but has gone down hill and food is average and treat the customers like there doing you a favour buy serving you

Had a delicious lunch, on an extremely wet day. The restaurant was busy and the two servers on duty were run off their feet. Several guests arrived unexpectedly, insisting they had made a booking, but in fact they had confused the phone number because there's another 'Drovers' in a different part of Scotland. The servers felt they couldn't turn people away in such horrible weather, and heroically took care of far more guests than usual. They deserve Michelin stars for service. Oh, and the food was great too.

Since I had some free time until the bus arrived, I just decided to eat something there while waiting. I got a burger followed by a sticky toffee pudding. Both were good. Little bit mixed about this review. Firstly we had an evening meal there which was very good. We sat outside which was lovely and the staff were lovely. Food was excellent, nice starters and meals were lovely and not too expensive. The girl serving us did forget about brining out our bill so I can understand the reviews saying service is slow, however didn’t mind as she was very apologetic therefore would be unfair to make that an issue. It’s a really lovely pub with great meals. Only issue I have which I felt strongly about - we popped in a few days before our meal it was 6:30, they had room but couldn’t feed us! Can’t understand anywhere that serves food can turn you away at that time of night even though they had a table for us!!! Strange! However glad we got booked in and ate there.

Food at the Drovers is really good, the restaurant is friendly and the staff are very efficient. The only slightly negative feedback (and one I have heard from other locals too) is that the food arrives slowly. I am sure this is because it is all assembled fresh, and it is always worth the wait, but eating here can be challenging with small children and tired adults. By the time we finished our main course - which had taken at least 40 mins to arrive after ordering, we were last in the bar. We then waited at least a further half an hour for our puddings, while staff tidied up for the evening around us - with bottles and rubbish being wheeled past our table very noisily. If we had known how long we had to wait, we would not have ordered pudding. Please accept this as constructive criticism - we love the Drovers, but please either tell customers how long their order will take, or at least save clearing up for the night until after diners have left the restaurant.

We ate here on the last night of our holiday in the area. The menu offered a great selection of options and we struggled to choose as it was all very appealing. We had a venison dish and a lamb rack dish which were both delicious, generous portions. Staff were helpful and unobtrusive. Another positive is that they are dog friendly inside and outside.

hadn’t been to the drovers in a few years and this was our first date out in over a year, so no presh ... but as I remembered it: food first rate, wine list a bit restricted because pandemic but we found an absolutely killer alberino. staff young, slightly clueless but uniformly charming and very helpful. the chef clearly has some serious chops. the smoked cauliflower mash on the scallops was mental. not cheap, nor should it be. only one short drunk bike ride fae kirrie. we’ll be back again soon wi the mother.

As we approached a joint 60th birthday in December our friends who held their wedding reception in the Drovers (being the first couple to do so) suggested this superb wee restaurant tucked away near the Angus Glens. A most inspired choice as we were treat to a fantastic choice of dishes. Thank you to all the staff who worked 12/12/2020 you made 2 x 60 years young folk birthday into a feasting treat.

My wife and I went there for our 40th anniversary dinner. It was very busy on the run-up to Christmas and had a 1630 sitting. the food was excellent and the menu was quite varied. My wife and I chose different things, but they all had one thing in common, they were delicious. We have been there a number of times over many years and have yet to feel let down. There are many restaurants closer to where we live, but we always come here for something special.

Our sons recommended this place and while it's a wee bit of the A90, it looks like a great set-up (if we ever get good weather). The menus are varied and the food we had was excellent. Staff were friendly and the restaurant is nicely laid out. I could have eaten everything on the menu, so it was a real struggle to settle on one but I was very pleased with the pan fried calf's liver. It was perfectly cooked. Too full for puddings!

We had not been out to lunch since the pandemic began and decided to try the Drovers Inn. The inn is beautifully furnished and the staff were very welcoming and professional while being Covid compliant. The menu is comprehensive and nicely priced. My wife had fish and chips and I had venison. Both meals were generously portioned, well presented and delicious. The Drovers Inn is a real gem and we will certainly be going back.

Having been abroad for a year recently this was our first visit back. It was also unintentionally a private dining experience as reservations around us had been cancelled due to divergence in COVID tiers with Grampian. Table in bar by the burning fire, attentive & friendly service with good respect for safety measures and great food all meant that it was as enjoyable an as ever. Menu made it hard to choose with options that were relevant to the area and season. Settled for Scallops cooked to perfection and a lovely starter of quail 3 ways. Sunday lunch roast for my partner and after some dithering Monkfish (rather than venison) for me. Weren’t sure we had room for pudding but so glad we did. Decided to share a chocolate & whisky delivered with caramel, nuts and coffee ice cream - all the flavours and all the textures a dessert should have this time of year. Didn’t really miss the wine we couldn’t have and felt as snug as bugs. The only downside was having to drive for 30 min afterwards before being able to curl up on the sofa for the rest of the night. Planning to be back in December even if we stay in tier three - can’t wait to try the venison.

Family gathering for an anniversary celebration. Have passed by the Drovers on number of occasions but never unfortunately eaten there. All covid restrictions were in place. The food and presentation of the food was excellent. Lovely choices for each of the courses including vegetarian and vegan. The Drovers is in the middle of the country between Kirriemuir, Edzell and Forfar. With sat nav you should easily find your way there. It is definately worth the trip. It also has a lovely garden with seating/umbrellas that I'm is well used during the summer months. We will certainly be back before the summer to sample more of the delights of the Drovers

We used the Drovers Inn as a mid-point location for a small family get together during this challenging period. All six of us felt Covid- safe at Drovers where excellent compliance with the rules by the establishment and friendly staff was in place. Our lunch was of excellent quality and great value. The starters we particularly enjoyed were the west coast king scallops and a superb quail dish. All main courses were enjoyed but the trio of pork and the pan roasted loin of venison were superb and nicely presented. Desserts were good too and the generous cheese selection included several good Scottish cheeses. We shall return!

Disappointed with our lunch - had to wait one and a half hours before we received our dishes and the Monk-Fish was cold when it arrived - will not be back

Stopped off here after being turned away from the hotel in Glamis as we had our wee dog with us. Phoned ahead to check it would be ok to bring the dog and all was fine if we ate in the bar. Did not disappoint. The bar was cosy and comfortable and the menu was excellent. I had the Venison and it was outstanding. Partners food equally good. Service was great. No long waits nor hurried. I thought it was 10/10.Couldn't fault it. Thoroughly recommend.

It's been quite a while since I've been to this part of Scotland; in fact it's been a while since I've been to any part of Scotland, given the "COVID-19 lockdown and all! However, this region is the home of "Arbroath Smokies" and "Aberdeen Angus" beef, so the trips have always been a delight and this one was no different. Our party had been booked in for a 6pm sitting and when we arrived the nimble waiters and waitresses were already serving diners with their drinks and taking orders. There was a choice of menu, either the bar menu, a la carte or steaks. Our starters of deep fried king prawns came in a crispy batter accompanied by a piquant dipping sauce while a portion of rissoto came delicately topped with pea shoots. Three of our party had opted for ribeye steaks which came exactly cooked to each person's liking served with delicious chips. There was a good choice for those not eating meat including a tasty looking tagine. If you're thirsty, this establishment serves local real ales as well as fine continental largers and has a wine menu with something to suit most tastes and pockets.A great place to come with friends or family, but as it's so popular, make sure you make a reservation!

This was my first visit to the Drovers for a few years and wasn't dissapointed. Firstly the service was excellent from the staff, no complaints. Food on the whole was very good and everybody enjoyed their meal, 3 small complaints, pakora needed to be a bit spicier, the scallop starter needed another scallop and the sticky toffee sundae was bigger than expected!! Reasonably priced and dog friendly, will be back!!

We won't be returning, there were just too many things that have put us off. Very unfriendly welcome, to being seated right next to the lift where hotel guests were coming in and out (yes, we should have said something, but there should never have been a table put there). As for the food, who thought it would be a good idea to smother the loaded fries in loads and loads of cheese sauce (was supposed to be cheese) that was the most awful thing to keep eating. As for the Townhouse salad, how can they even call it a salad and charge those prices. Was literally small portions spooned on the plate of what ever was in the fridge with chips and your chosen salad (my child is far more creative with food). Then there's the scampi, where they put the chips and the barely cooked bullet peas in separate dishes, but all it did was make it look like very little and certainly wasn't worth the money paid. My teenaged child ordered a reduced portion as they wanted to get a pudding. However, they were so disappointed in their meal where a lot of it was left and they were then never going to order anything else. It costs a lot of money going out for a meal and we will happily pay a bit more if we know we're going to enjoy our meal. The Townhouse was a huge disappointment, not recommended.

Never have we been to a hotel with such friendly welcoming staff. Everyone we met showed us the greatest hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and enjoyed the food and again the friendly attitude of the staff. Breakfast was varied with a choice of hot dishes including Arbroath smokies. Our room was spacious and warm with a view over the green. We will certainly return if we visit Montrose again. The birdwatching was good too!
