The wife had "one of the best veggie burgers ever" and I the excellent sausages and mash. This is the second time we've eaten here - great for creative yet hearty fare. All washed down with cask ales (in this case Tim Taylor's Landlord and Black As Yer 'At (Glastonbury Ales). For a pub under a new publican, it's going the right way.

We went for Sunday lunch, table for 5. Waited nearly an hour for meals to arrive. Roast pork with crispy crackling! No crispy crackling soggy skin, yuck. No apple sauce as stated. Roast beef, no puree as stated. Had to ask for correct amount of vegetables. No apologies from staff, for the wait (apparently we went at busy time 13:00!) or for the pork Very disappointed

Since my last review I have visited and eaten here several times. What more can one say? Lovely welcome from front of house team today, Lorraine and Georgia. Nice to see Kelvin the owner briefly too. Four beers in great condition. Three from two Somerset breweries and one from Devon. New lunchtime and evening menus. Really enjoyed the spelt risotto and my friend’s Ruby Beef burger went down a storm too. Homemade strawberry parfait was much appreciated as was the accomplished home made vanilla ice cream accompaniment by a mini homemade meringue … a nice touch. Keep it up, you’re doing a lovely job... If you’ve not eaten here yet, you’ve missed a treat

We’ve eaten well at The Crown a couple of times since it re-opened in July and this was our first Sunday lunch there. We weren’t disappointed and all 4 of our party cleared their plate. The portions were generous, attractively presented and, above all, delicious. The menu is well thought out and the flavoursome food was cooked perfectly. The new kitchen and bar team have a great mix of food & drink for all tastes and the hospitality is second to none. Don’t miss the opportunity to see for yourself.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Drayton Crown. The ploughman's was spot on, and the cheese and ham toastie was really well made. They have a nice selection of beers and local ciders, all at reasonable prices. The service was good, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone in the area!

Robert knows how to cook! It’s very good to see Robert, the chef, back here after too long a gap! He’s a man with a passion for designing interesting menus which are not too vast where you can guarantee that almost everything is made on the premises from his bread to his ice creams and sorbets. There’s a smiling welcome at the bar with its good range of real ales and local ciders. Crown Jewels is a specially badged version of a Somerton Fine Tuned Brewery favourite. Other beers on this visit included Arbor’s C Bomb pale ale, Parkway’s Black Forest Stout and Dartmoor’s Legend - a classic, malty English bitter. So, even if you’re just passing for a drink, you won’t be disappointed and there are some nice sounding home made bar snacks available. As for the food, it was a hot day so it was two perfectly executed salads for lunch. The Caesar was very succulent and tasty chicken with everything you’d expect including a generous finesse from ultra thin ribbon shavings of tasty Parmesan with a beautiful dressing. The Hot Seared Beef had, I’m guessing, been rubbed with fragrant spices before seared to perfection then tossed with candied walnuts and Yarlington Blue cheese on a horseradish dressing atop the lettuce. The succulent, lean cut melted in the mouth. As it was main meal, we shared a very acceptable bowl of chips. The pudding menu was just for looking… was! However, resolve crumbled on seeing the Dark Chocolate Verona Mouse served with home made salted caramel, homemade marshmallow and coconut crumb. My simple, vanilla bean ice cream made on the premises was the most delicious ice cream out that I can recall in years. The strawberry jam ice cream will be tested next time! This recent reopening deserves huge success and Kelvin and Anne deserve thanks for doing so. This is one of the nicest pubs in many a mile and we have several good ones within a five mile radius! It doesn’t cost a fortune to eat here either and is less pricey than the previous licensee. Keep up the good work, Robin, George and the front of house gang and Robert, please keep doing your creative stuff and the interesting and perfectly executed food coming!

The food here is fine, on occasion really good, but the pub is really let down by rude, sarcastic staff members who seem keen to impress the locals propping up the bar. Weirdly, this behaviour is most common on a Sunday.

We were very excited to return to the Drayton crown after it had been closed for a while as it’s always been so welcoming. However the service we received was appalling. The chap behind the bar with the blue hair was very rude and unaccommodating, he acted like he’d rather be anywhere but at work and was flippant when we asked questions. His rudeness wasn’t just directed at us but other customers who later approached the bar, it’s really soured our experience which has always been glowing up till now.

We stayed at the Drayton Crown for the weekend as we were attending a wedding nearby. Despite the pub being closed for renovation the rooms were lovely having recently been renovated. Angie and Rachel were so accommodating we both had the full English which was delicious and very generous in size. We felt so welcome and cared for. The little touches such as fresh flowers as they knew it was our anniversary and offering local knowledge for taxis etc was lovely. They generously upgraded our room too! Will definitely stay again! Especially looking forward to the pub and dinner. Thank you!

Angie the housekeeper is wonderful she even offered to drive us to the restaurant! Breakfast was lovely and the chef was also friendly which made our stay even better! So much to love about this place but sadly was not a great experience. The staff were friendly and the room was great. I stayed as a solo traveller for work and chose this as it looked a lovely pub with good food and after a busy day at work I just want to get to the hotel eat, have a drink and relax. Unfortunately at 6pm, I was told they weren't doing food that evening. I asked what my options were and it was too drive to a pub in the next village. It was freezing, dark I was on my own so not great. I got back at 7.45pm hoping for a drink to find the pub closed and in darkness, a heads up would have been nice. My booking said check out was 10.30 am so I'd booked an online meeting at 10am. At 9.50am a lady knocked the door and walked in and said check out was 10am. Although very friendly I had to explain a couple of times that I couldn't leave at 10 as I had a meeting. Just a lack of communication all round

Drinks are great. Disabled toilet needs some adjustments however. I understand that in an older building, the disabled toilet will be smaller. However it shouldn’t be used as a storage space for high chairs and the emergency call cord must fall to the floor (legal requirement) when it doesn’t. For disabled people like myself, you must do better.

For one reason and another, we hadn't been to The Drayton Crown for a meal for some time. So when we returned for Christmas lunch a week ago it was lovely to see that not only has it remained as friendly and welcoming as before but that the Landlord has made improvements inside taking it from a somewhat sterile, uninspiring interior to a warm and cosy look with plenty of throws, comfy sofas and coloured walls. Just right for the winter! (The Christmas lunch was lovely too!)

Instantly fell in love with this place, it is right up my street. A real country pub, with a modern feel inside. The room is just superb, beautifully decorated and with excellent facilities. Coming down for dinner, and although the bar and restaurant are busy, the staff are friendly and efficient with my starter arriving in good time. I’m so impressed, I’m writing this while waiting for my main course to arrive, so cannot offer comment on that yet! The only downside, and I feel bad criticising when everything else has been so good, is that I’ll miss breakfast in the morning as it’s not served until 08:00am, and I need to be away sooner than that. Other than that, I would highly recommended, and I’m sure anyone booking here for leisure rather than business wouldn’t have to even consider this as an issue.

We were 2 adults 2 kids and a dog looking to break a journey from The North to Cornwall. Turned out to be a great stop over. Stylishly decorated pub with a friendly landlord, staff and clientele in a lovely village. The room in an annexe next to the garden was spacious, cosy and clean and the decor was so lovely, it seemed a shame we were only staying for one night. The breakfast was a bit disappointing compared to everything else but if the pub welcomes feedback could easily be upgraded with some black pudding and artisan bread. All considered, would we like to return? Absolutely.

Overall was a pretty awful evening, some items which were described on the menu didn’t come out with the food. The desert was described as “warm chocolate brownie” which came out stone cold. Then as we start to pay at the bar the man servicing us walked off unannounced, then to see him serving someone else their food. Very shoddy service with very poor food won’t be coming back again. It also said pork loin on the menu and I got served pork chop instead which is a complete different cut of meat

Warm welcome, good choice of beers and drinks in comfy bar. Good decor, clean and spacious dining room. Sunday lunch for 4: 2 pork, 1 chicken and 1 beef, yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots, mange tout, gravy, accompaniments. All beautifully cooked and nicely presented. No desserts required, just 4 coffees. With drinks, approx £27 each. Can highly recommend. The only improvement that we could think of is to offer a slimmers option of meat and lots of veg instead of yorkshire and roast pots.

Was looking forward to eating here but I have to say we all found the food very mediocre and bland. The photos look amazing but we had a tasteless prawn cocktail with virtually no lovely rich sauce and the prawns here awful. Virtually no leaves at the base so dry and so uninteresting - also such a small amount. The salmon main was nice but virtually 3 half baby potatoes and a miniscule amount of some green vegetable so very disappointing again. The pudding was a strawberry cheesecake and this was bland again. My friend had sticky toffee pudding with icecream but she really needed some cream as the two dark parts really were crying out for a nice slug of cream. No imagination. My husband had chicken - loads of chicken in a pretty tasteless gravy - again 3 x half baby potatoes and a leaf of something green - we wondered where the vegetables were and no more came. Honestly it was such a poor meal.

We decided to treat ourselves and we both had the rib eye steak. Now, we eat out once or twice a week and this was, without doubt, the best meal we've had out since lockdown. It seems daft to say the shallots were delicious, but they were! As was everything on the plate. If you happen to be in the area, or if you're looking for a stop off on a longer journey to or from the south west, the Drayton Crown is well a little detour!

Wow...just pure wow! We stopped for Sunday lunch and have never had anything like it! We read the reviews and chose the pub purposefully, and so glad we did.We ordered a 3 meat platter and it’s just heaven on a plate, the pork was juicy, the chicken was moist and the beef, oh the beef was out of this world, roasted veg, amazing gravy and an all out great atmosphere! We will be back to taste more , your chef and team are a real credit to you and after reading the previous comments can see why! Well done drayton

An excellent pub with 5 rooms above. A great location in a quiet village. The room was spotlessly clean and very well furnished, including the en suite. A very varied and nutritious DIY breakfast was provided, including fresh milk and fruit. Donna and her father run a very welcoming pub. I was part of a group of 11 cyclists doing a long ride to raise money for charity. The group ate the evening meal here and we all enjoyed it. Afterwards Donna drove a few of them back the nearby campsite where they were staying. (above and beyond). She also washed and dried some of the cycling kit. All in all a very special place!

Took a short cut from the M5 to the A303 on the way back from Cornwall. Called in here on the off chance for lunch and weren’t disappointed. Even though they were fully booked for lunch (reduced numbers for Covid restrictions) they accommodated us as they have a large beer garden too.We had the Sunday Lunch sharing platter with beef, pork and chicken and it was wonderful. Everything was delicious, including the Summer vegetable medley, which came as a nice surprise. It was so good, we had to stay for pud and the brownie with vanilla bean ice cream took it to a completely different level.Felt very safe with plenty of space between everyone. If you take this short cut, this place is a must. Superb!

First time we’ve eaten here since before lockdown and we felt totally spoilt. The food is amazing, fresh and delicious with a good variety on the menu. Service is really friendly which sets a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. Felt totally safe (the place is immaculate!!) with plenty of seating outside under shade or well spaced out inside. You won’t be disappointed.

First meal out since lockdown and well worth the wait - especially with a new chef in the kitchen. We ate outside and chose from the bar menu. My wife had the fish & chips: delicately flavoured fish in a light golden batter, with delicious chips. I plumped for the burger which was particularly delicious - being made with 42 day aged beef.It was so good we were back again the following night in the brand new restaurant. Highlights this time around were the chorizo; the whipped butter with pork crumb; rhubarb crumble and finally the chocolate fondant. The wonderful Donna was as friendly and welcoming as ever and her staff did her proud. Will be back again very soon.

Pity this place has gone downhill so swiftly. The food isn't too bad but the service was sultry and dismal - not good enough!

Stunning valentine meal, absolutely outstanding. What more can you ask for, great food, attentive staff, warm atmosphere and superb ales, gin selection and to top it all barman’s cocktails. Highly recommended and we will certainly be visiting very often.

We went to the Drayton crown today for lunch, good to see Donna back. Lunch was excellent nice hospitality and a fantastic fire to sit by on such a cold day.

Booked a table at the Crown because we knew that Donna was back as manager. We’d stopped coming as the food had gone downhill, and we’d had some poor experiences under the previous management. But with Donna in charge, the heart is back, and so are the excellent triple-cooked handcut chips. So lovely to have someone here who really cares about the pub, giving a warm welcome to everyone and making it feel like the heart of the community. Great to see Charlotte back too (even if only for a while) - it’s the perfect Christmas present for Drayton! FYI, we had a fab onion soup, and crisply battered haddock and the legendary chips. The brownie (which we had to share, as we were stuffed) was lip-smackingly good.

A client recently took me here for a quick lunchtime drink. First impressions were great as the building looked lovely from the outside with plenty of parking. The barmaid was welcoming and smiling. Unfortunately the pub interior is quite clinical and felt cold, no atmosphere at all. We had a glass of wine which was a decent price and decided to order some bowls of chips. I didn’t expect two tiny bowls of frozen french fries just like a McDonalds take away! We ate them as we were hungry and left. I don’t think I will be back I’m afraid.

The pub is under new management and so new menu, staff, decor too. We received a warm welcome in the cosy bar area. The draught beer was excellent and so many tempting dishes on the menu. We enjoyed our lunches and will be back soon. So lovely to have a local getting everything right. Their hard work and dedication is shining through. Thank you!
