Absolutely fantastic service and out of this world food. The chef came out to speak to Us and we were blown away by the quality of food, the portion sizes, incredible and would recommend to anyone - dog friendly too 😍

Ate In November for a special celebration for Big Sis's birthday. Food and service fantastic, team at the Dolly are fab...nothing too much trouble, let me put balloons and banners up beforehand. Food amazing - home made pate and steak and ale pie - i had the salmon in sauce with prawn white sauce - just delish. Highly recommended if in the area.

Pleasant pub with a good atmosphere. Waitress very inappropriately dressed. Service poor, long wait for first course and the drinks order. Food good value, pub grub. Manager VERY RUDE when questioned about the poor service. Cancelled a reservation for following week. Would not recommend this restaurant.

We stopped for a light-bite on a long walk along the Montgomery Canal. I ordered a salmon salad and spent the next 20min wishing I hadn't as plateful after plateful of fabulous looking food came out of the kitchen. "I wish I'd ordered that" I thought as the fish and chips came out. "I wish I'd ordered that" I thought as platters of sandwiches came out, and so on and so on...Then my salad arrived and it was beautifully presented with hard boild eggs and beetroot and a wide variety of other flavours artistically arranged on the plate! Wow! And then the chef came out to check that we were satisfied with the new salsa recipe and...we were so surprised that she wadn't the celebrity chef we had expected. Don't drive past this place without stopping, but do book first as it was busy and will almost certainly get busier once the word gets out.

What can I say absolutely amazing can not fault this place I had a meal there a while ago the food was so good I keep thinking about it hands down the most tasty delicious food I've had. The Dolphin is run by a local family very friendly nice people they make you feel like your at home so warm and welcoming. I need to go back I haven't been back because of money problems but now I'm ready again to taste some delicious food and on the 20/5/2022 they are having an event to raise money for the Ukraine people looking forward to that also a worthy cause. If you visit Llanymynech even if you visit the Dolphin once you won't be disappointed it's a place you will never forget.

Very helpful and friendly staff, excellent gluten free cake, an new extra coffee machine would be a helpful addition, so that more than one cup of coffee can be made at a time.

The Old Black Lion was the perfect intimate dinner venue on a cold winter saturday evening. All three courses me and my partner had was scrumptious, the white bait starter was particularly note-worthy, large for whitebait, juicy and crispy. The mains was also very good value (you can't go wrong with the steak). The atmosphere was idyllic, is as cosy an old pub can get. If you want an escape from the centre of Hay that's still only walking distance, this is where you should have your dinner.

Stopped for lunch on Tuesday afternoon on our way out shopping. Greeted by the manager and a young waitress. Ordered drinks which was served promptly. The Manager came and took our order and got chatting to us as we haven’t been in for a while because of Christmas. We ordered the Roast Chicken Breast, Hunters Chicken, Fish & Chips and Steak and Ale Pie. Everything was cooked to perfection and presented very well. The waitress offered desserts which we went with the homemade rolo brownie absolutely delicious. Then finished off with Irish Coffee’s. We love coming here and can’t wait to come back again soon.

Called for a takeaway whilst holidaying in the area. There’s plenty to choose from on the menu & the food was fresh & cooked well. 100% recommended. It’s just a shame you can’t order & pay online to collect.

Nice ambience. Decent pub grub. Salads are good. Don't bother with steak. Nice wait staff.
