Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Dog with our two dogs. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the pub has a great country pub look and feel. We had the gravadax to start, which was fresh and tasty with a delicious caper dressing. I then opted for the roast beef after being told it would be medium rare and 'soft as a cloud'. It was delicious, perfectly cooked and really soft. It came with red cabbage, carrots and cauliflower cheese, which was all just right, although I would have preferred some more green veg. If I'm being picky the potatoes were a little undercooked and not very crispy. My partner had what we were told was chicken and leek pie, which turned out to be chicken and vegetable pie. It was nice, but a bit of a disappointment as she was expecting a creamy sauce inside, rather than gravy. Finished off sharing a Xmas pudding, which was absolutely delicious, one of the best I've ever had. We had a lovely time, would definitely recommend the Dog.

Been today for a Sunday roast. The wife and I had the Dingley Dell pork belly with pork shoulder and black pudding Gratin potato, our daughter had the confit duck with dauphinois potatoes, and father in law had the roast beef, with all with the trimmings. All the food was beautifully presented and was cooked to perfection. The Maitre d’, Wilson was so welcoming, checking we were all ok and comfortable (even checking we were not too hot or cold). The pub itself was an idyllic country pub. Well spaced out tables and chairs, and not too cramped. For a starter, main and drinks we paid on average £30 per person, this pub 100% ticked all the boxes in our opinion. We will definitely be returning and recommending it!

We stopped by The Dog just before they finished serving food, and they couldn’t have been more accommodating! I ordered chips and a side of veg, and they actually asked me what vegetables I’d like – a first for me! The food was perfectly cooked, with generous portions. The fish meal was spot on as well. The service was outstanding; the two bar staff who served us were incredibly welcoming and attentive. Highly recommend!

This pub is at the centre of the village. Well known for its food (I wasn't eating). You can find parking in the rear, alongside a garden. Seats out front. There is a bar for drinking and the other side is the restaurant. We came to watch the tour of Britain 2024 pass by hence the cycling pictures. Beautiful little village, very nice stop over. The olympic gold medalist Remco Evenepoel passed by and I managed to snap him perfectly!

Checked on this site that they were "open all day " got there and read the sign outside the open door " open all day" waited 5 minutes for barman to finish his conversation, only to be told he "thinks" they are closing at 3! Goes upstairs to check, says sorry closed at 3. Its still 3 minutes to 3 but still refuses service. Very disappointing Ruined lovely day, we'd driven quite a way. Maybe you have to be "local"!

Enjoyed dinner at the Dog. Food was excellent of a high quality. Although I had the monkfish and felt the potion size a tad small. Service was very friendly and efficient. However there was no mention of specials, only saw on way out. And we had to mention allergies. It would have been good to have been asked and presented with a different menu upon arrival. I would visit again.

Took 30 minutes to be served 2 soft drinks. Ordered kids burger (no cheese),fries and curry. This took a further 45 minutes, even though we were one of 3 customers in the restaurant. The kids burger was dry, burnt in places and served with cheese although we asked specifically for none. The curry was bland, chicken was dry and rice was over cooked and sticking together. This cost us over £30, which I believe to be very over priced for what we received. Will NOT be returning!

Extremely bang average. Slightly overpriced. Servers don't check back to tables . Paid £18 for the lamb and was given 2 very small pieces of lamb (literally had 2 mouthfuls of meat) and a couple carrots with cabbage and an aunt Bessie's Yorkie. Definitely not worth the price. Wanted to order another beer or two but my efforts to ask for one were ignored. Cauliflower cheese was brought to the table also but barely enough to go round so most people on the table only had one florette

Had an enjoyable vegetarian spinach and feta parcel. Could not fit in a full pudding so had coffee and truffles. Note they only give you 2, which makes them quite pricey. What a fantastic, foodie village pub. Great vibe outside on a warm Summer's evening, before moving into the restaurant for what turned out to be a thoroughly delicious three course meal. The whipped feta and cauliflower dahl starters were packed with flavour. The pork tenderloin katsu and Middle Eastern venison shoulder were tremendous. And the sticky toffee pudding was top drawer. The cherry on top was quite how dog friendly they are. Our (often nervous) dog Maggie was made to feel so welcome, from the multiple water bowls around the place to the team going out of their way to put us at the table she'd be most comfortable. Made such a difference to the whole experience.

Went for a lunch with my 3 sisters today, booked for 12 30pm. 2 diners had allergies, one to nuts and one was a coeliac. At first glance there was little choice that was gluten free but when the waitress came to take our order she immediately asked what were we interested in from the menu. She then went to speak with the chef and came back with multiple choices 😃 I chose the venison and wild boar burger meal though was very tempted by the mutton curry. My sister with the peanut allergy chose the salmon fish cakes with red lentils as did one other sister. The last dish to be chosen was the whole plaice dish which she had with fries. The dishes were excellent though my sister said there were more bones than flesh on her plaice but it was cooked to perfection. We followed with deserts, 3 sticky toffee puddings and one gluten free brownie all served with delicious vanilla ice cream. We had a lovely time and our 2 little dogs were very relaxed the whole time and more than happy with their little biscuit treats kindly given by the waitress. The only reason we gave 4 stars instead of 5 was the time it took to be served, our order wasn't taken until 2pm though once taken it was swiftly cooked and served. Also the parking was not very good, it is up a lane behind the pub, not easy for those with mobility issues, the lane wasn't easy to walk down and there didn't seem to be any disabled entrance so we had to struggle up and then down the front steps. However the atmosphere, staff and food were excellent.

I booked for Sunday lunch last weekend which I have often done before and found it thoroughly enjoyable Once seated, the couple on the table next to me arrived with a retriever dog. Nice dog. However, it was allowed by the owners (and staff) to lay down sprawled out blocking the way through from the back door and bar. The waitress had to pick her way through the dog's legs to get to the owners to take their order (a little bit dangerous for her, because who knows what the dog would have done if she'd accidentally trodden on it.) I then went to the toilet and on returning forgot the dog was there and nearly fell over him. I said to the owners that I had been worried about treading on the dog but they did nothing - not even move the dog! A few minutes later the people on the table behind me arrived with a small terrier. It didn't seem to like the retriever and so the owners decided to introduce them to each other. Thank goodness they were on leads because from the sound of the snarling there would have been a full blown dog fight - one foot away from me! Still nothing was done by the staff (although they are all very young and I suspect neither experienced nor confident enough to deal with a situation like this) Maybe they could have moved the terrier to another part of the pub? A few minutes later a man came in the back door, turned the corner and nearly tripped over the retriever - he just managed to save himself from completely hitting the floor. (Nice insurance claim there!) This startled the retriever who jumped up which set the terrier off with a very loud non-stop shrill bark which literally hurt my ears. I said 'please would somebody shut that dog up'. After all, I had been very patient for at least 15 minutes. The reply from the terrier owner was 'This is a dog friendly pub if you don't like it - leave.' So I did, telling the barmaid to cancel the order, the reply to which was 'we are a dog friendly pub' My complaint is that if you're dog-friendly please ask your staff to ensure that they are friendly dogs and try to keep human customers safe and happy. I will, of course not be returning and will tell my family and friends of which I have many as I was in the trade myself for over 30 years, and people trust my judgement when it comes to pubs. I have already advised the pubs in your area, some of them are my locals, to relate this incident to their customers so people are warned about the dog-friendly policy at the Dog.

We went today the meals were fantastic we have a coeliac and 1 vegan and they really accommodated us by tweaking some bits of the menu to suit us. We really appreciated it. As being coeliac I often feel like a pain but it is a disease and not a choice. Highly recommend this fab, friendly beautiful pub and we will visit again soon. Thank you

We decided to pop in for a drink ,my partner went to the bar and I went to the toilet ,10 mins later my partner still at the bar not been acknowledged woman sat behind the bar not looking at him and what looked like the manager talking to some people ,fair enough if you can't serve say so or if your talking just say you will be a minute. They were so rude and ignorant maybe if we had been stuck up people he may have looked at us ,but we are just normal. One to avoid

This is my sons favourite place in the world. He loves the waffles (now he has got used to the new style ones). He loves sitting in and all the staff we have encountered are so lovely. Be patient. All is made from scratch and they can be very busy. Worth the wait

An exceptionally great pub. Still retains the feel of a village pub, but with the excellent food and service of a great restaurant
