Always busy which is great! Just avoid the Level Head - it's a nice pint, but £7.40 in Woodbridge is a very very steep! Prices are advertised but I missed them when ordering. Reason given was shocking deal with brewery.

Top rating. Helpful. Good ales. Fine food. What's not to like!

Thought it was a Greene King pub and tried to use a voucher but was told it was a tenanted house

Not sure how the last reviewer has classified as a 'proper pub' because it's anything but that...£7.20 for a pint of so called 'craft' lager! Basically it's a pint of standard English pisswatter with a colourful label. Absolutely tasteless. Having spent time in 26 different countries I can honestly say that I have never met greedier people than the middle classes that live in the south east of this country. Shame and self respect really are now a thing of the past aren't they...these people don't even bother to hide their greed and self obsession any more. Avoid avoid avoid and head north if you want a decent and reasonably priced beer FFS!

Just popped off the train as this pub is located right outside, Our group went here for a swift pint or two we myself and my other half. Very nice pint of Estrella and Birra Moretti, the service was quick and priced fairly reasonable for the area. Very relaxed and a lovely atmosphere. With lovely atmosphere around. First time visitors for evening meal. Food and service was excellent, will definitely return.

A proper pub. Absolutely teeming with diverse punters. We were accommodated at short notice to eat. The pocket rocket lass on front of house was so good at her job. Food..three of us had different mains and we all rated them very highly. Honest, quality food and cooking. Bar staff and wait staff got through huge numbers of orders and...so good we went back the following evening. Almost worth the hundred mile trip just to eat there. We stayed locally and the town is classy without getting up itself. Rather than banging on about how good I would just like to say...thank you The ⚓

A very busy pub, great food and beer. The only problem is the popularity. If you want a quiet meal the back room might be OK, but even that is often heaving.

We popped in for a couple of pints of ale and thoroughly enjoyed the beer, the service and the lively atmosphere. Thank you

Read all the reviews about amazing gluten free fish and chips. Called to book a table to try amazing gluten free fish and chips, told they didn’t serve gluten free fish and chips when booking then person on the line hung up on us.

Had the fish and chips year old so ago was good. Made the mistake of having it again! Minnow and chips. Batter bit of skin that was it £16 !!! Shocking. The chips and peas were good. The fish - worst I've EVER been served, such a shame.

A group of us met for a midweek supper and between us enjoyed cooked-as-specified minute steaks, a delicious risotto and a very hearty and incredibly tasty chicken pie. Perfect food for a soggy autumn evening. The pub was busy with cheerful groups and while lively, it was not difficult to hear others on our table. The young waitstaff were charming: friendly, professional and interested in opinions of a wine new to the menu. We shared a small pudding as the large portions of food meant we sadly didn't have space to try the intriguing flavours of sorbet - that'll be a good reason to return before too long!

We stopped for a cheeky pint before lunch, sadly it was Green King pub so no decent craft beer but our pints of Cruzcampo with fresh lime hit the spot. The service was very friendly and pub is incredibly cosy. We definitely be back for lunch one afternoon, the food looked very tasty.

A character pub which is not far from the waters edge offering a reasonable selection of pub food and beers .I have visted more than once when shopping in the town and have not been disappointed.Didable people should know there are steps down to the side/rear garden.

Lovely pub, great food and service. Cosy. Clean! Mushroom Arancini & Thai fishcakes to start. Beef Guinness pie, minute steak for mains. Great. Cooked and served with love. Just lush! Only complaint (no fault of the establishment although had it been my pub I would have reminded them there are other diners paying for a peaceful lunch and the young guy taking a booking on the phone was struggling to hear the person on the phone!) 2 awful, self absorbed, LOUD ,plum in mouth witches talking so the whole pub and restaurant could hear how wonderful they themselves were. Was bliss when they left. Great food and service.👍

This pub serves top quality food. For my main I had the turkey pie which was probably the best pie I've eaten. The pastry was so melt in the mouth. The servings are so incredibly generous we had no room for desserts unfortunately. Everything is homemade too, including the chips. The only negative is there's limited veggie options. If in the area, would absolutely recommend this pub.

Stopped in for an early lunch, had the Thai Chicken Curry, while my partner had the Minute Steak and fries which she ordered as a medium. Both were delicious, possibly THE best curry I have had when eating out. A credit to the chef. Washed it down with a bottle of 0.5% Speckled Hen - the combination is fantastic, leaving a lovely post-lunch glow that is hard to find in your average pub. The Atmosphere is lively and The Anchor happily caters for families and groups, but booking early is advised. Staff are friendly, fast and attentive. The location, opposite the cinema and waterfront or a quick walk up into town, is optimally placed. Look no further for a lunch date to set you up for the day ahead.🍛🍻👏

Fantastic Sunday roast in cosy pub with lots of character and a lovely log fire. We didn't book and they managed to squeeze us in, perfect for a rainy cold December Sunday afternoon. Top marks!

I was recommended to visit here by one of my friends that said ’ it’s such a nice place and the food is amazing!’. Well I can confirm that both of them statements are 100% true. It was our 7th anniversary and wanted to christen our memories with something special so I booked a table for two at 7. The atmosphere from outside sounded like we was in a scene from a romantic film and then we went inside and felt that great pub atmosphere and feeling something about tonight. The staff were all so polite, warm and welcoming and we was treated so well. The menu has just enough to give a selection without being too busy making it hard to choose something. My fiancée had the burger (which looked amazing) and I had the sirloin steak (blue - of course) and was absolutely in heaven with the huge serving of peppercorn sauce that came in a jug which was well enough for the big chunky lovely chips and the huge steak. The steak was so nicely caramelised on the outside with charred bits it was just absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. We felt full so decided not to have afters but managed to accidentally order two white chocolate cheesecakes completely by accident and we had to eat them as they had brought them over after ordering them completely by accident by mistake without meaning to (yeh roight) which were bloody gorgeous. In short the pub is a nice setting and we were comfortable the whole time (2 1/2 hours) the staff were all working hard but made it look easy and the food is to be tried without a doubt. Absolutely 10/10 and thank you for such a lovely evening we had just the best time.

Excellent find! Terrific pub with great food and drinks. Very old, with lots of character. Very busy, but plenty of tables and outdoor area too. Food is imaginative, good quality ingredients with excellent cooking lead to a well presented meal. Recommend highly. Friendly staff who are attentive and helpful.

Perfect place to watch the world go by. Plenty of outdoor seating, good food and decent range of drinks.

Really nice food , good choice of drinks. We had starters, main and dessert and it was all finished in just over an hour. We didn't feel rushed and likewise you don't get left waiting between courses. Will defo be going back

So cold! It was snowing outside but there was no heating whatever in the back room. We sat with our heavy coats on! The food was good, and good-value, but we were so glad to get back to the car.

The Anchor, Woodbridge is my most favourite pub in the world. Something about the top bar that is so cosy and quintessentially English that it makes you want to hole up there and get squiffy on the fantastically kept GK Abbot Ale. The Massaman curry yesterday was superb too. Their pub open mic jam sessions are great fun too. Highly recommended!😃🍺👍

Quirky waterside pub set over a number of levels. The beer (Abbot ale in my case) was well kept but too cold. Real ale should not leave condensation on the outside of the glass. The food is exceptional. I had the butternut squash, celeriac, mushroom & chestnut pie with mashed potatoes & veg which was excellent. Very good sized portions and reasonably priced.

Great beef teriyaki served by friendly attentive staff. Try the millionaire's shortbread - Superb

This is a friendly, popular and busy pub near the centre of Woodbridge. There is a small seating area around the side, but on a warm evening many people like to sit outside at the front and enjoy a good beer, good company and watch the world go by. On a winter's evening it gets busy inside, but in a proper pub way. The food in the restaurant is good and it's generally best to book. It's dog friendly, outside and inside.

Good staff, good beer, large portions. I'm a very heavy eater. Had fish & chips and 1 pint and doubt I could've eaten anymore. I left full and satisfied. Prices are proportionate to serving sizes.
