Great place, great people, great food, rooms, ambiance, everithing was great abd the breakfast was incredible! Congratulations to The dog and gun!

We have just stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding locally. The Dog & Gun is fantastic, really friendly environment, great food and staff. Our room was spacious, had a bath and a separate shower. It was clean and had been recently renovated to a high standard, as had all the rooms I believe, the bed was also really comfortable and noise was very minimal despite it being above the pub and adjacent to the road. Included in the nights reservation was a delicious full English breakfast, half size also available, which was freshly cooked to order, plus cereals, toast etc. We ate an evening meal one of the nights, superb homemade chicken,ham and leek pie and all cooked fresh at a reasonable price. The staff were all really good. Friendly and very efficient, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, 10 out of 10!

Recently stayed at The Dog and Gun and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had lunch on arrival and the double burger is to die for. The welcome was excellent and all the staff very friendly. Breakfast was also very good. We had the family room and it was fantastic and very spacious, i can't recommend it enough. Our stay was first class thank you.

I've never been here before, but I'd heard alot about their pizza. I will admit, the pizza tasted lovely, a good size but quite expensive for what I had £16 Mine was cheese and basil (5 leaves total), which considering it was cut into more slices than that, a bit disappointed. Everyone enjoyed the food, which is always a bonus, so with that in mind, I would recommend.

Stayed here for 1 night on route to the Great Bustard experience in Enford. We found the staff friendly and efficient. We stayed in room 5, which was large and well appointed. Good shower with gels and soaps. Room was quiet, but ear plugs were provided for lighter sleepers. Lots of coffee, tea bags and milk in our room. Breakfast was excellent and cooked to order. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

Stayed in room 2, for 2 nights, first night we had little to no sleep due to the kitchen extractor fan being left on, we mentioned this at breakfast and we're told the kitchen staff had forgotten to turn it off and they would remind them to turn it off that night, second night I had to go down stairs after 11pm as the extractor fan had again been left on, door's at the bottom of the stairs were all locked, seemed very dangerous if there was a fire trying to unlock door's could be deadly if there was a fire, eventually found a member of staff who had to make a phone call to kitchen manager to find the switch to turn off extractor fan, my partner had a bad stomach on the morning of our first breakfast and we both had bad stomach's after our second day's breakfast,

Very disappointing experience. Booked a week in advance advising of a birthday - no acknowledgement of this during our visit. Not overly friendly welcome. Very small menu options (which we were aware of from the website) however, then to find several choices were unavailable when ordering was not good practice. Should’ve been advised when given the menus. This is better practice. Small jug of water and six glasses placed on table for a party of 8. Had to ask for 2 more glasses and another jug of water. Irritating and shows a lack of attention to detail. Onion soup was inedible. Sadly our party member didn’t want to make a fuss so just didn’t eat it. Obvious to server when the table was cleared though. The sink in the ladies toilet was very slow to drain. On next visit the tap had been left on and with the slow draining issue was flooding the floor. Notified staff who dealt swiftly with the water but not the drain. Mains arrived in instalments and with wrong dishes. So we ate separately. Deserts- again options not available and not advised until ordering. Doughnuts were undercooked - 3 portions - so not an accident. Poorly presented too. Could’ve had a dusting of icing sugar or caster sugar and maybe a dipping sauce. Bill arrived with additional 12.5% gratuity added. I was aware of this from the note on the menu and also from visiting the website prior to visiting. However the bill had an attached note saying any additional tip you’d like to leave would be shared amongst the staff. Cheeky and unnecessary in view of the prices of the dishes and gratuity already added. The bill also had an item on that we hadn’t ordered! Was removed on request but shouldn’t have happened. Attention to detail is so important. Dog friendly establishment which suited us but another tables dog barked throughout our meal. Not the restaurants fault but added to our overall disappointing experience. We had travelled from Chichester and our son from Cardiff. Chose Salisbury as a mid way point as other members of our party were local to the area. Definitely won’t return or recommend. They could do a lot better in my opinion as the location and building itself is lovely.

Had a very good stay here, dinner and breakfast was very nice. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Good value I will definitely be back.

I had the meat special pizza which was pigs in blankets with crispy onion and cranberry jam and it was F**KING FANTASTIC !!!!!

Everything, and I mean everything, was excellent, from arrival and greeting by friendly staff onwards. I seriously can’t fault this place. I could go on for longer but save time, get on the phone and book a table. While you’re there try the sticky toffee pudding. It’s sublime.

We stayed two nights as we were visiting the area - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the bed room was comfortable, clean and well appointed - with a superb en suite. The food was excellent and service good. Lovely atmosphere and the unexpected quiz evening great fun!

Stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast at the Dog and Gun whilst cycling the Old Chalk Way. Staff are super friendly, the room was gorgeous, delicious dinner and excellent breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly, highly recommend!

We visited here while staying in the area for a wedding and what a great find! The food was great - we had pizzas and a pie and it was all amazing! The staff were really attentive and friendly - would 100% recommend! There are also rooms which we didn’t know, but wish we did as would have stayed!

Really disappointed. Food was great, waiting staff great. Manager miserable. No wonder this pub is always empty, the least welcome we have ever felt anywhere. Also discovered that non of the 12.5% service charge does not go to the serving staff!! (Even though it clearly states it does on the menu!! - Shocking!!)

Found The Dog & Gun online when looking for somewhere close to Thruxton circuit as I was working there for the weekend. Friendly welcome, although I didn't get the fresh milk and cookies. I had the room with the bath which was lovely (didn't use the bath though). Bed was super comfy and I slept well. Just a couple of things - only a small vanity mirror on the dressing table which wasn't helpful for doing my hair and I agree with the comment about the stairs. Nearly got knocked down the stairs when someone was coming out of the door as I was going up! Also agree that the road is much busier than I had anticipated, but was too hot to sleep with the window closed. Limited menu but I ate in the pub both nights - pizza and chicken burger - and the food was great. Sadly was out of the hotel before breakfast so can't comment on that. But the staff were lovely and helpful, the bar/restaurant was clean and the service was quick and friendly. Would like to go back and see a bit of the surrounding area - what I saw of it was lovely.

Utterly charming, proper pub with great food, exceptional service, fine fresh beer and friendly locals. Set us up perfectly for an afternoon’s fishing. Couldn’t recommend it enough. Paradise!

We had a lovely evening, and the food was fantastic with really good friendly service. We also had breakfast the next morning which was excellent with a great choice of everything you’d like for breakfast.

We stayed overnight at the inn and our room was charming, clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful, especially in finding a secure location for our bikes. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Highly recommend this place!

We stayed 2 nights and we were very satisfied. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was very good...breakfast and evening meal.. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The location was good for tourist sights. 2 things to be aware of are: The road is very busy and quite noisy. The stairs to the rooms are quite steep. Neither of these observations were of any concern to us.

Wonderful Sunday roast! Everything was AMAZING. So happy that we came across this place. Desserts were delicious too. Sticky toffee pudding was warm with a scoop of ice cream. Highly recommend if you’re in town. We ate quite late too/they were still serving food around 3:30 PM.

There was one table left at the Dog & Gun today. I'm so pleased we took it to meet our daughter for lunch. What an absolute GEM of a country pub this is. The staff are really friendly, efficient and we didn't wait for ages for our roasts to arrive. We will definitely be returning.

A lovely country inn/pub very nicely converted with some great rooms with en-suite. Clean and tidy, food exceptional and the service was friendly and warm. This was our second visit to this pub and they did not disappoint, the food was delicious, we visited with my parents and we all had the beef roast dinner, the portion sizes were very generous, the meat was cooked perfectly and the whole meal was delicious! The pub has a very homely welcoming atmosphere and they even had a real fire going which you could feel the warmth from as soon as you walked in! The service was quick and nothing was too much trouble, we would highly recommend and will definitely be returning ourselves

A lovely pub with rooms, with excellent staff including a young man on his first shift who was a natural. Had an excellent evening meal, lovely bedroom and a great breakfast. Top notch and highly recommended.

We visited for Sunday lunch today , my fiancé said it was the best roast dinner he’s ever had ! We had roast beef , huge Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, turnip , kale, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, carrots and pigs in blankets . Was amazing. 2 log burners blazing away . We spent 4 nights here, and had dinner there every night, plus breakfast a couple times. We were visiting England, Scotland, and Ireland, and this was our favorite stay of the whole trip. The restaurant was top quality, the room was adorable and comfortable - especially loved having a bathtub. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We hope to return to the Dog & Gun on a future trip!

Great little pub. Came here for lunch after a visit to Stonehenge. Waitress was lovely! Beautiful open fire. Menu boasted a great selection of pies & pizza as well as other dishes. We each had a pizza and they were easily the best I’ve had in a long time!

Old Inn tastefully modernised in a trendy way. Staff helpful and friendly. Patio seating area outside. We had the “Family” room, which was nice because we had a sitting room and kitchen area (but no crockery or cutlery). Downsides: An extra single bed in the bedroom meant space in there was cramped. There was no long mirror. The main road outside was very fast and busy, Hotel does NOT allow dogs in the bedrooms even though it is dog-friendly in the bar.

Spend the night here after a celebration of an Aunts 90th birthday . The Staff were very welcoming and friendly .The room and bathroom was clean and comfortable . Breakfast was lovely. A great and convenient stopover for the Great Bustard tour , which is a must see and most enjoyable .

The food here is amazing!! We have tried a good portion of the menu and everything is always superb quality. Can't help but go back to our favourites every time though - chilli squid and fries, number 7 pizza with EXTRA chilli ... nothing is ever too much for the team, with a super warm welcome from Lisa everytime we arrive. Perfect place for a date night, cosying up by the fire with a good book and a pint or a casual midweek meal. Always a pleasure to visit, will continue to be back :)

As soon as we went in, the atmosphere was great. The waitress was friendly and the decor was relaxing. Quirky pictures on the wall, great cakes on display and the specials' menu for lunch was different. In fact having stopped for coffee we went back for lunch. The waitress gave us the same table, remembered what our disabled daughter had to drink and couldn't have been more helpful. Superb food - pudding was decorated with an edible flower!! We recently visited this lovely refurbished pub for Sunday lunch which we were impressed with the service and food.As my brother was emigrating we decide to take him to this pub for a farewell meal, unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectation , our table was booked for 1930 we were told on ordering our food there was no curry left and no mash potato with the pie of the day just chips, not a good impression and it spoilt the evening, surely it doesn’t take long to knock up some mash and realise that there running out of curry especially so early in the evening.Unfortunately we won’t be going back.

Buen personal, pero carente de un líder de frente de la casa, no es obvio quién está a cargo y revisando, la comida era mediocre y decepcionante, una lástima ya que queríamos que fuera buena, pero solo comida de pub promedio sin delicadeza.

Visited a once for a meal, twice for drinks. Meal was good. Nibbles were simply jarred olives and not anything special. Garlic bread, which we had to ask for despite ordering was yummy. Starters were really really good, although soup wasn’t hot, simply warm and took a long time to arrive. Main, pie was ace, and fish and chips were great. The steak was of excellent quality and cooked brilliantly! Chips were slightly greasy but only if I’m being picky! Service was friendly. Overall a really lovely meal, and would encourage people to go, but clearly still in its early days. Hopefully a specials menu comes about soon?
