Very good service and food, Nothing not to like. I’ve eaten at a lot of Turkish restaurants and this is up there with the best.

Ordered a takeaway collection from here on there website. Very easy to use and can select your collection time. I went for calamari and the lamb chops for main and couldn't thought either. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly and plenty of meat on the bone, the bread that came with it was fresh, the rice and bulgar was excellent. Will definitely be back to dine in with family and friends as the restaurant looked a very relaxing and chilled place to eat. Very impressed

Went with Family for Christmas Day Lunch. The food was well presented and was fantastic, tasty and of a high quality - nice big portions too. We had a party of 13 and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommend

The traditional country pub has been very well renovated into a very smart restaurant with ample parking in a rural setting. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the menu varied but not overwhelming. Our food was very good and well presented.

Superb meal again at the Dog & Gun last Friday evening. An absolute gem. Amazing service as always.... Alex is a class act who knows his customers (he remembered what we had 6 months earlier!) :-) And Sevgi was also great with friendly, professional, attentive service. In my opinion the Dog and Gun have got it just right...first class service, lovely venue and delicious (yet healthy) food. Can't wait to be back there soon and I recommend to everyone!

Called and booked a table a hour before, on bank holiday weekend. Arrived and the restaurant was busy, service was prompt from Bilal who was brilliant all evening. The food was amazing and the cocktails are a must. We was so impressed with everything! If your looking for something with excellent Turkish food and cocktails this is the place.

Having watched the Great Dunmow soap box race my wife, two sons and 3 friends of ours travelled to the Dog & Gun. They have a large car park with large spaces, outside seating and a kids play area so it was a good choice given the good weather and 3 hyperactive kids. I haven’t been here since February 2012 when it was back then just a pub and restaurant so I was keen to visit especially now it’s a Turkish restaurant. The main building retains many of its interior features with a now Turkish taste to it. Upon arrival we went inside and a table for 7 was no issue however at this time there was no outside table service. We decided to sit outside with some drinks and view the menu before ordering and going inside to eat when ready. The menu is very well priced, the staff accommodating and friendly, the tables wide enough to fit everything on. There is a large glass panelled style conservatory giving the outside inside feeling. When the food arrives the portions are plentiful and it is served on branded crockery which is a nice touch given that most restaurants just give you a cheap white plate decorated with garnish instead of the meal ordered. The staff are attentive but not overpowering. We finished our food before returning outside so the kids could burn off the last of their energy and then went to pay the bill We visited on a bank holiday Monday and although there were others there it wasn’t what I would call busy which is a shame given the standards and depth the staff have gone to. I would almost certainly recommend the Dog & Gun to family and friends with or without kids and I am looking forward to returning.

A belated 21st for our son due to Covid and our son being away at Uni but a large contingent travelled from Swansea, Bristol and Oxford to share this special night with us. Ali and his team were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. It's always difficult catering for a big group but the food was superb and an excelelnt night was had by all.

Our first visit and definitely not our last. There was absolutely nothing to fault. Staff very welcoming and pleasant surroundings. The food was delicious and large portions. My partner had lamb shank. It was huge and beautifully cooked as was my Sea Bream. Not as expensive as some of the other restaurants we frequent but equally good.

We brought family for a meal on Saturday 4th March and delighted with the whole experience as usual, great friendly service, superb food and all this on clearly a busy night for Alex and team. Disappointed to see other reviews complaining of issues with service given the earthquakes in Turkey and the fact that several members of the regular staff members have had to travel back and support their families. Worth highlighting that the new hires we experienced were adopting the same high standards that we love here. Will continue to shout out about the great food on offer at the Dog and Gun and look forward to our next trip there. Ian & Jackie

We had a superb evening here with friends. We received a warm welcome, choice of where we sat as the restaurant was very quiet. Only mention that it was a little chilly but we were offered to move closer to a heater, so dealt with issue very well. Came for a meal Saturday night, service was a complete nightmare. The service was so bad it actually started to be funny... It turned into a very dry night as could not get the waitress's attention, the blonde waitress was more interested in polishing jugs and moving dirty glasses from one table to another empty one. What a shame as the food was quite good. Would not eat here again because of the bad service and high prices.

Had wanted to try this place for some time now and had the chance this past Saturday. We were a party of 3 adults and 1 child. We had a table booked for 7.30pm and arrived just after, were seated by 7.35pm. It was very busy and had a great, buzzy atmosphere and lovely welcome. This good start was unfortunately short lived, we felt we were totally forgotten the whole evening, we did not get a drinks order taken until 8pm and we asked to place our food order at this time, also. Our starters came out quite quickly and the food was very nice, no complaints for the food at all. Our wait between starters and mains was an hour and we were not checked on once during this time or offered an apology for the delay. The waiter who bought our mains did say sorry when giving us our food but again after this, we were ignored, we had to get someone's attention for another drink which was then forgotten so again had to get someone else's attention to order the same drinks and then to get the bill. For the first time ever we did not leave a tip and embarrassingly had to ask for the service charge to be removed. We also noticed on the bill (once home) that we had been charged for a pint of soft drink which we did not have and we ordered a G&T which on the bill showed as a double, this was not asked for and I am not denying this was a double but this should not have been given without asking as I may have been driving. We would have loved to have stayed for another drink or dessert but we would have ended up being there for over 3 hours. We understand delays happen but communication when we arrived or throughout the evening would have gone a long way, or offering our daughter a free desert or something to show you recognised that the service offered was not up to the standard an establishment charging the prices you charge should have been. As explained the food was very good and we would have returned if we felt that we were guests that were appreciated and had been offered a good service or apology for the lack of service, the other reviews look very good so maybe we were unlucky but £150 for 4 of us, 2 of which were not drinking and the 2 that were only managed to get 5 drinks in total isn't really good enough.

Out in the middle of nowhere and hardly given away by the name of the restaurant, this Turkish restaurant is a great eating environment, offers great service and great food all in a relaxed and modern environment. Just exceptionally professionally done.

Try this place for the first time this evening. Service was absolutely impeccable from the man who met us at the door through to the general attentiveness and overall cheerfulness of the staff. We had a whole variety of status which were delicious including fresh prawns, mushrooms and cream sauce, scallops, halloumi. Main courses I went for the joseph-cooked mixed grill as that seems to be one of the specialities of the house. We decided against having desert, however the owner turned up with some baklava and vanilla ice cream and it was absolutely delicious that we bought another portion to take home for the kids!

We ordered a takeaway from here for Father's Day. It was delivered on time, warm, and was so delicious that we knew that we wanted to eat in. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and a wonderful smell greets you as you get out of the car. There is a beautiful garden and play area for children. We received a very friendly welcome as we arrived. The lady and the gentlemen were brilliant and really made our evening special. They spoke to our 3 year old daughter a lot during the meal, which she loved.The menu is interesting and varied. I am a vegetarian and was spoilt for choice. Each dish was so unique and both well flavoured and perfectly cooked. My husband said the calamari was the best that he had ever had. I had a halloumi and vegetable casserole which was out of this world. We could not find any fault with any of the dishes. The service was excellent. We were never made to feel rushed. It was a lovely evening. Looking forward to returning.

Fantastic food and fantastic service - website quoted an hour wait (good expectation setting) and it was more like 40-45 minutes with a very friendly delivery guys. and what he delivered was EXCELLENT - I thought a bit steep at around £78 (family of 4, starters and mains - so kind of sit-down pricing) but the amount of food that came was phenomenal. All of it was fantastic quality also, coming with delicious lavash bread and raise of Turkish and Med dishes. Would definitely recommend

We arrived at 6 o'clock which is the time they said for us to be there ( we were supposed to leave by 8'o'clock as they needed the table ) We ordered our starter which was fantastic then we spent an hour waiting for our main course . In the meantime they were serving other tables wich came in after us ! Joe my son got up to ask them wether they had forgotten about us quite politely,we waited another 15 minutes but surprise surprise it had not turned up! So Paris my daughter -in-law went to see where it was again very politely ! Our main course eventually turned up and it was very good ( by the time we had actually eaten it was then ten to 8 ) . The waiter brought us the dessert menu in the meantime the Manager came over to our table and HE was totally RUDE , OBNOXIUS and downright HORRIBLE .We did not bother with a dessert . £117 to be spoken to like that I think was absolutely DISGUSTING !!!! We will never , ever go there again and I would recommend to anyone thinking of going there to eat DO NOT BOTHER !!!!!!!!

Probably the best Turkish restaurant in Essex Traditional Turkish dishes, some which I have not seen on other restaurant menus, even in Turkey.

Visited on Saturday last, the place was full and as a result rather noisy. Meal was served quickly and the service reasonable, the kitchen was under pressure. We were initially charged for a bottle of wine we did not have, rectified quickly. We felt that the cost for the wine which was recommended by the waiter was expensive which added to the overall cost for the meal and service charge was automatically added as well.The manager took time to talk to us at length when we left, he said there had been a sudden rush of later bookings.

I love this restaurant and have visited on a number of occasions. The food is always fresh and delicious and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Great choice of dishes and wine / drinks and good value. The restaurant is very nicely appointed and has a good ambience. 5 stars all round!

Thought I would try this resturant having heard good reviews. Needs a little tidying on the outside around the car park. Warm welcome by staff. The menu was varied and a good selection of dishes. Had a cold and hot starter of humous and creamy mushrooms. Humous needed more seasoning garlic it was a bit bland. Creamy mushrooms were nice. We followed by lamb chops which were coooked well and tasty the only negative they were a bit oily and needed a mint sauce to cut through the fatty taste, But they were flavourful. Chicken was nice very suculent maybe again a little seasoning. It was nice. I didnt like the creamy mushrooms again with the lamb chops as a side it needs something fresh. The resturant is modern with character and showing signs of a little wear and tear but clean.

We booked for 6pm and on arrival were waved in the genersl direction of our table. Storm Dennis was blowing up and we all had big coats, but there was no attempt to take them and we had to ask if there was somewhere we could hang them. Servive was, however, very swift. Never a good sign.The chicken shish was fine. Anyone can grill chicken. The lamb Guvec needed more culinary skills, which were absent. I suspect it came from a frozen catering tub, and it was bland, greasy and underseasoned. The pudding menu was the same as a Benidorm beachfront cafe, with individually frozen ice cream products such as Punky Penguin. We did not risk it. On leaving, we has to ask where our coats were, and wete waved in the general direction of a coat stand. No one said goodnight or saw us out. A nice location - that is the best comment i can make. The food and service - poor. Could do better

Tonight my husband and I had our first meal in this fantastic restaurant, well, we were very impressed and could not find fault at all! Pleasant greeting from Ali and was taken straight to our table, we were presented with a menu and drinks list, we were given enough time to choose from the wine list and the house red was excellent! The menu was extensive and catered for all tastes! We ordered our meal starter and main, which was delivered in 5 minutes and was extremely tasty! The main was delivered 10 minutes after we'd finished our starter and was extremely authentic Turkish food! I was in food heaven! No hassle from the staff, extremely professional waiters. We were also impressed with the cleandliness of the restaurant! I cannot fault the dining experience at all! I was given two dishes which contained gluten which I am intolerant too. We visited this restaurant for my husband and his twin brother's birthday. I have Coeliac's Disease an auto immune disease that is controlled by a gluten free diet, so we rang before booking to check they could cater for my special diet. we were assured they could adapt dishes so booked for Friday 31st.

Ordered twice now. First week tried to charge my wife’s card twice. This time delivery driver demanded payment even though we had paid online. Eventually took a photo of email as “proof” When my wife rang manager was really rude.

We ordered a home delivery to Great Leighs this evening. The kebabs were absolutely delicious. When we placed our order I asked that when delivering the delivery person didn’t knock on the door too loudly in case of waking up our baby. They went above that and we got a call to our mobile to say they were outside and that they didn’t want to knock at all so as to not disturb. Exceptional personalised customer service and great food - thank you. Wouldn’t hesitate to order again.

The last time we went to the Dog and Gun it was a very pleasant English Restaurant. So we were disappointed to find that it had changed to a Turkish Restaurant. The food i found average , i had the shise mixed grill , and my lamb , tough and griserley , pointed this out to the mangaer who in fairness gave me more chicken , by this time i was put off my meal and somwhat took away theia sesnse of occiasion ( sister in laws birthday ) . No chia ( turkish tea ) as their kettle was broke . I found the over all exprince average , and overpriced , im sure it's a great place but on this occasion it was not . This my personal outlook on this and other members of the party found this a good palace to dine . Dont be put off try for yourselfs and be the judge .
