My Irish comrades, I"m crying, and they're not happy tears! With the hype over social media, the intrigue, and the genuine hope you were crushing it in London town, myself and my 3 fellow Irish amigos got in the babysitters (thanks hubbys) and braved the tube. On the positive, it's always important to start here...your staff are lovely, very friendly, warm and welcoming, save for the "manager" who tried his best but I think may have been promoted on the night, bless. Drinks also grand, expected London prices, you know yourself, but we have a deal on payment to the babysitter so saved the extra pounds needed. Tables a bit too "cosy" for me, but I get it, need to maximise custom. The food...on the whole quite nice, but dare I say not particularly special or memorable. But lets talk prices....Jaysus lads, even for soho you've gone mad! I don't think I'll mention the starter, save for saying that if mammy knew how much she could sell soda bread for, she'd be bragging to the village about being the Irish Mary Berry, and be able to fly Lingus rather than RAir. So, moving onto the mains. I went for the turbot and honestly for £30, the size was astonishing, and not in the way men would hope. Now admittedly I don't know how big my friend turbot would usually fair, but I'm guessing he was really feeling the cold tonight because he was beyond disappointing, and whilst some may not appreciate a bit of salt, I certainly would have welcomed some seasoning. For a further £12 I added 2 sides, as you would, so £42 later, crying more tears than I had just shed at Les Mis. After several attempts to chat to a manager, or anyone that could perhaps take on some healthy feedback, the gold fish was taken off the bill, and we enjoyed a dessert between us on the house. Appreciate, thank you. Gave £20 tip to the nice staff on top of the service charge to show our appreciation. Never a rude word spoken on either side, despite the inaccurate lies, and immature response from the owner of the pub on Google (since deleted?)-very sad lads. And apparently we're barred as a result of giving feedback lol Lastly, a mention to the brown paper, cafeteria type table matts that we were told were to create a "casual" feel. There's nothing casual about paying £100pp and still feeling hungry! Please do better. Wishing you luck

We came here for the hype of the Guinness, no shame in that. The service was very efficient and quick. The staff were very friendly and polite even when it got packed around the bar. I will definitely be back as the Guinness was very good indeed and well worth the hype. The bar was quick and un rushed. We liked the idea of having the food menu on the back of a coaster. Next time we will stop of for food as the food did look very nice indeed.

I stopped in The Devonshire on a recent trip to London for a pint of Guinness. I'd heard they were well known for it, so had to give it a go. It was a little after midday on a Tuesday and the bar filled up rather quickly, with majority of people drinking Guinness, so obviously they're doing something right. The service was friendly and I was soon sat down with what can only be described as the best pint of Guinness I've had. No bitterness at all, a good amount of head and the perfect lacing. I can see why this pub is popular. Very nice.

The talk of the town... everyone wants to go, many people can't get a booking because of the popularity, but I finally managed to get in... Excellent, would be the best way to summarise the experience. Lovely pub with 2 floors of dining for the restaurant. I like that because next time I will ask for the the floor I hadn't been on. Pub was busy, with a good atmosphere. Menu was good, food delicious. Highly recommend the scallops and the suet pudding! Price was fair, service was spot on. This place truly deserves its outstanding reputation, and any negative reviews seem like they’re searching for flaws that simply don’t exist. Everything was flawless—from the cozy pub downstairs to the vibrant Grill Room, the friendly and engaging staff, and, of course, the fantastic food. The Devonshire not only meets expectations but goes well beyond. My girlfriend and I dined here a couple of weeks ago, and having experienced Michelin-starred restaurants before, we can confidently say that the overall experience at the Devonshire was even more enjoyable. It’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression.

Just had a very disappointing experience at this place, which unfortunately ranks as the worst services I’ve encountered in London. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, especially in the back section, the service was lacklustre. The young brunette server who attended to us appeared to manage the seating in a way that felt inconsistent and unfair. Some fellow diners exchanged looks and light-hearted remarks about it, hinting at feeling singled-out. We were seated in an uncomfortable corner near a cluttered pile of cutlery and plates, which was noisy and created an unpleasant atmosphere. This placement also made it difficult to get the staff’s attention. While the food was decent, the overall tense and unwelcoming environment overshadowed it. If the restaurant has specific customer preferences, it would be better to communicate that clearly. I came with high expectations but left feeling disappointed. The negative experience affected my day to the point where I felt compelled to write this review upon returning home

Unfortunately my verdict is - overhyped and overpriced. I’ve seen and read people raving about this being the best roast in town. It’s not. For £30 we got a rather small and thin slice of beef, 3 roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud and sides to share (carrot, peas, leeks). We’ve seen tables around getting much bigger slices of meat so it’s a bit of a lottery of what you get which isn’t fair. They bring and serve the roast to you in multiple stages so it doesn’t come ready served on your plate which actually makes it look less impressive. The waitress that served us wasn’t particularly friendly either. The Guinness was really good on the other hand (my Irish boyfriend ranked it very high), sticky toffee and bread and butter pudding were both nice but I had better at Hawksmoor. Overall, okay roast but not worth paying £50 per person (including desserts) and definitely not worth all the praise and hype it’s getting. Won’t be coming back.

The best meal I’ve had in London in AGES! Everything about the interior is warm and inviting. The prices are very reasonable as well - the set menu was £29 and was the three things I wanted to eat most on a Friday anyway (prawn cocktail, steak chips and bernaise, and sticky toffee pudding). The meat is cooked so well, the little bread rolls they give you are delicious, the sticky toffee was fabulous. Obviously the Guinness is excellent, and the wine was good too. The only thing that wasn’t good was the green sauce as it wasn’t well prepared. 10/10 - absolutely loved it.

Buzzing pub atmosphere but definitely not the pinnacle of british dining as people are raving on about. Tad bit overhyped. Malt vinegar + guanciale on scallop wasn’t a choice I understood well. Scallop was well cooked itself but i felt that the sauce was too overpowering and took away the natural flavours of the scallop itself. Tbone was alright but the sides also fell flat to me. I prefer the bread & butter pudding over the sticky toffee pudding any day. Should just stick to their £29 set menu then maybe you wont have too much to complain about.

I heard about the Devonshire meat so I came to try it. I am myself a restaurant owner and 26 years experience in hospitality. I ordered a ribeye , medium rare , they brought me a meat that was well done. I returned it. They came back again with a meat ribeye that was more or less medium rare , but dry , no juice to it , no real flavour , I was very disappointed. The only great score I will give is to the service , the waitresses were kind , supportive , so friendly and dedicated to their job , but the meat was average and I score it 4/10. I will come back to give them one more chance , if they fail again , I will never come back.

We came for lunch after hearing about the amazing food and the top quality Guinness, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere and service is fantastic, with wood burning oven and grill on which they cook all of the meats. The Guinness is an absolute must, and they also have an impressive wine selection. To start we had the shrimp and langostine cocktail which was part of the set menu, and the scallops, both of which were great, but the scallops are not something you want to miss! For our mains, we had the flank steak from the set menu and the iberico pork chop. Flavours were fantastic, but the pork chop was the real star of the show! Highly recommended. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding which was the perfect end to a fantastic meal.

Loud, hard to book, heavy on the meat and light on non meat options, slow service, super hot due to charcoal grill and furnace dominating the room are all reasons to hate this place, but with amazing quality and great value food, it’s a place i will definitely countenance returning to. The highlight of the meal was the sticky toffee pudding, which had a depth of different flavours, didnt nuke the palette with sugar and could have been eaten as its separate constituent parts. On the downside the service was unecessarily slow and some of the food could have been better seasoned, but nothing that a quick shake or grind couldn’t fix. The wine list was dandy, and of course anything available from the bar downstairs. I did consider a cocktail for dessert but ended up being too stuffed and shared a pud instead. Whether you order a set menu or a la carte you won’t be disappointed.

Came here to eat but turned up too early. The pub was packed out and honestly if you want to come for a Guinness (I don't like it) it's so busy and the turnover so fast the Guinness doesn't get to rest. The three off us went for the set menu, which was a prawn cocktail, skirt steak with chips and bearnaise and a sticky toffee pudding for just under 30 quid. It was really good. The prawn cocktail, we all agreed, might be the best we've ever had it was excellent. The steak was good but perhaps a bit overcooked but very acceptable. Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was a smallish hit of serious richness and sweetness and actually just enough. Have to go back to explore the full menu but the service was lovely, the vibe was good. Had an excellent wine for £36.00 I think it was the cheapest and very nice. Recommended.

The service was great, although we did have about 4 different people serve us over the course of the meal they were all very well drilled at their jobs. The part of the restaurant we were in it felt like we were incredibly crammed in, hardly any room between tables and it was hard to even get out of the chairs as the table behind was so close. 10/10 recommend (first time visit) FOOD - very good. Ordered the pork chop and it is arguably one of the best I’ve had. If pork chops are your thing, this one is it (perfectly cooked, juicy, flavorful)! If pork chops aren’t your thing…you should try it anyway. I would say better than the skirt steak my friend ordered. The scallops are a great appetizer, you will not regret them. Very well balanced buttery, lemon flavor, and great texture. The carrots are a wonderful side dish. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Imagine seasoned sweet potatoes but in the form of carrots. SERVICE: servers are rotational so you’re not designated to just one, but the ones we encounter were great and one suggested the carrots which we do not regret. ATMOSPHERE: pub atmosphere when you enter on the lower level then you’re taken upstairs to the restaurant which is a nice vibe/atmosphere. Not too upscale but better than casual. PRICE: about $30-50 per person and the food was worth it during our visit. We didn’t try drinks/cocktails so I can’t review if they’re any good. I will certainly be back on my next visit to London and hope I have the same experience.

Incredible last minute roof terrace lunch booking - definitely didn’t disappoint! ❤️ 🍽️ 🍷 We booked a table for two on the morning of and were surprised to see that the dining room had good availability for a late lunch. When we arrived we were offered the heated roof terrace instead of the restaurant inside. As we were dining with our baby in the buggy, this seemed like a better option. You can take the lift all the way up to the rooftop which is beautiful and at 2pm had plenty of space to accommodate the buggy directly next to the table. Diners in wheelchairs or with other mobility issues would easily be able to be accommodated in this space too. The terrace heaters were so good it felt like a summer’s day with no need for a blanket or additional layers to keep warm even in mid-October. As an added bonus for theatre lovers, the terrace overlooks the Windmill Theatre which can be seen from every table outside. As for the food - it was a really lovely, seasonal and balanced menu with lots of tasty meat, seafood and veggie options to choose from. My husband enjoyed 2 courses from the set menu - prawn cocktail and the steak and I had the scallops to start followed by a very creamy Autumnal pumpkin risotto with a side salad for some added freshness. I should also mention the bread roll which was homemade, served warm and had a brioche quality to it. The wine menu offered a variety of choices and had a good selection of wines by the glass too. I opted for a white Portuguese Alvariñho which paired really well with what I ate. Sadly we didn’t have time/space for dessert so we’ll have to come back again, especially as we saw the soufflé being served at a table next to us and it looked incredible.

Never been here before but I'm glad my friend wanted to try it. We started with pea and ham soup and brawn on toast, then both of us had the suet pudding with ox cheek and Guinness (with some creamed leeks), followed by the Grand Marnier souffle. All of it was superb, tasty, filling and the size of the helpings was just right, not too small or too large. My one niggle was that the soup was a little tepid by the time I got it but I couldn't ask for it to be heated up a bit as I was slurping it down it was so good. A special shout out to the waitress who flambéed the souffles so successfully, always fun. We were on the first floor (the Grill Room) and yes it's quite crowded, the tables are close together and there's not much room for the staff either but remember it's a converted pub not a purpose built restaurant and certainly at lunchtime the atmosphere was great. There are two huge wood-burning ovens at one end, so if heat isn't your thing you might want to ask to be seated at the other end. The waiting staff were all very nice but it was slightly irritating to have to wait to get the bill and then to have to wait to pay it. With a glass of champagne, a half of Guinness (interesting to see so many drinking Guinness and not wine), a glass of dessert wine and an espresso each it came to £176, including service. It's not cheap but the quality justifies the prices. I had eaten at the French House with the same friend a few months back but the Devonshire is far superior - better food and more reasonable prices. Would I go back to the Devonshire? Like a shot.

Waiting for my ' lobster' ( sure trading standards could find fault with this description) service provided me with a shell picker- for why I do not know. There was NO claw to pick. The top half of the lobster filled with what could possibly pass as crabstick meat heavily disguised with the wine garlic cream sauce. There might have been two mouthfuls of crabmeat at the tail end of this vague descriptive shellfish ( but then it could have been scampi). All very disappointing for the anticipation, expectations. Portion size miniscule, came away feeling not fed, full at all. Yes £180.00 for two with wine. May appear reasonable but for quality standard description, portion then a big fat defo NO. This place has mixed reviews for a reason. Food ignorance. Massive profit making at the Devonshire. The shellfish probably from Aldi. Strolling round Piccadilly afterwards. Down a quiet side road Bentleys oyster bar. Crab similarly priced to Devonshire lobster. This place looked far more ambient, genial and genuine. An alternative to try and consider.

Great Guinness, but not so great service. More concerned about taking payments for Guinness than making the drinks, especially if not ordering Guinness. Very dark and warm inside.

Great spot having parted with in excess of 500 pounds on a good lunch we returned to the bar that was met with a less then welcoming attitude to which I responded. Unfortunately the owner was next to me and rather than ask about the problem he proceeded to manoeuvre me away with his chest and belly without discussion and then made myself and friend feel extremely uncomfortable by advising his doorman of our being. For a well positioned establishment the manner in which this person who I later learned was the owner was completely unacceptably over the top. And having gone from someone who would wholeheartedly recommend the Devonshire I would now say steer clear.

An immaculate pub with phenomenal scotch eggs and great Guinness pours. Likely the best Guinness I’ll have on this trip.

Very poor food quality, disappointing menu. I had a filet steak that was very tough and the suet beef cheeks which was very disappointing. The menu was very unimpressive and over priced. Presentation was also not good, it’s worse than I’d expect from a cheep restaurant chain where you’d pay a fraction of the price. Very cramped dining. The Facilities were not clean. We don’t come to London very often so we were very disappointed a waste one of our nights in such a poor place.

Came in for dinner on one Monday, managed to get a table as a walk-in after about 10mins of drinking the renowned Guinness downstairs. We were shown to the roof for a table for 2, lovely atmosphere even though it was raining. The only thing was that the different tables were really close together so 2 other customers had to get out of their seats to let us into our table. I ordered the £28 or £29 3-course set menu. First the prawn cocktail. It was amazing with plenty of prawns and sauce, and not overly done with lettuce like a lot of prawn cocktails. Then steak with chips for the main. Honestly one of the best steaks I've ever had, cooked perfectly and came with a delicious bearnaise sauce. The chips were honestly the best I've had at a pub, crispy and full of taste. Onto dessert: stick toffee pudding, my stepdad who I was with, who normally never eats desserts, I mean never, decided to scoff up half of it. And for me once again one of the best sticky toffee puddings I've ever had. They also brought out all three of cream, custard and ice cream which was a nice touch, as I wasn't initially sure which one I wanted. All in all, genuinely one of the best meals I've ever had. And for the price, 100% worth it. The only moan was that the food did take a while to come out, too long, although it was really busy inside. Servers were nice, and somehow made a mistake and got us an extra drink. Would definitely recommend going, even if it's just to try the Guinness.

Surprising gem of a restaurant where you would be expecting simple pub fare based on the popularity of the the pub below. This "Irish Nook" restaurant upstairs is almost like a speakeasy and feels completely disconnected from the bar scene below. The menu is simple and focused on the grill. The food is phenomenal and the overall experience is unique and ideal for business meal where you want to impress in an intimate setting. The service and wine list are great, as well. Highly recommend.

The Guinness is good, reason I’m giving this place a one star is because some bald headed manager told me to put away my laptop and told me I’m not aloud to work in there. I was just charging my phone using it and also spending money in this establishment. It’s seems like a tourist trap but never the less, he wasn’t very friendly.

You can't claim to serve the best Guinness in London without consistency. Many bars try to get it right by keeping their lines clean, pouring correctly and using the correct nitrogen heavy gas mix as I believe is recommended by Guinness themselves. On any given day any of these places could lay claim to the best pint, but unless you consistently serve a pint that's 8 out 10 or above then you can't say you serve the best Guinness in London. There was a period between February and May 2024 when the Devonshire did genuinely have an excellent pint that was an 8 or above, no matter when you went there it was pure cream and never failed the tilt test, but something has changed since then and not for the better. It's still perfectly drinkable, you won't get a bad pint here, but it's no longer consistently of a standard where they can lay claim to being the best. For me, that accolade goes to the bricklayers arms in Putney right now. They currently set the standards for consistent 8 and above Guinness in London in my view. They also have this weird green room out the back that seems to be reserved for celebrities and influencers. From what I've seen, they rarely (if ever) open this space up to the regular punters who are their bread and butter and are mainly responsible for the pubs success, even when the place is packed and there's nowhere to sit. It's all a bit elitist and contrived for a place that tries to portray itself as a proper boozer where according to the website "all are welcome". Won't be back for a while.

I meant to post this review last week but I’m afraid something got in the way I travelled up from Devon for the day for a late lunch on 18 Dec with three friends…. Now I need to come clean….. I have a pathological dislike (no, hatred) for high end restaurants with stuffy service but I do love great/ fabulous food If you’re the same, then I’m my opinion, The Devonshire is definitely for you On the ground floor, it’s a boozer… which by the way, serves the best Guinness I’ve had outside of the Republic of Ireland. The pub is not fancy, or themed, or over-done; it’s just a great, traditional pub which is rather refreshing (no pun intended) Upstairs; is a brilliant restaurant and the food, is absolutely knockout (with one exception on the day, the lamb hotpot that the team just took off the bill when asked for our feedback ‘“oh no, we’re so sorry to hear that. If you didn’t love it, then we’re not charging you”….HOW LOVELY IS THAT?) I don’t know the three founders but when you have one who knows how to run pubs and is a legendary ‘Bon Amie. Another, who’s a fabulous chef, and finally, a chap who knows loads about beef (and by all accounts is a great person)… that’s the perfect combination It probably helps that they appear to be really nice people, who get on with each other, AND, there’s no VCs or corporates involved…. Enjoy The Devonshire; I did and I’m booked to go back in late February

As it says in the title, this is the place to bear when it comes to authentic and deliciously made bubble tea. The service is always fast and I don’t think I can emphasise just how wonderful the drinks are. You get a lot of drink for what you buy plus there is just something special about the presentation of the drink and the way it is made that stays in your mind long after you finish the bubble tea. I particularly recommend the fruit teas, with some drinks it comes with fresh fruit in the drink that you can eat after! Always refreshing and sweet
