The Delaunay in City of London, Westminster

This has been on our list of places to eat for some time so as we were at Somerset House, decided to book for lunch. I was planning on ordering the schnitzel but was tempted by the Sunday roast. They don't skimp on the portions so was glad I didn't have breakfast. Everything, including the horseradish and gravy, was really well cooked and there was a generous helping of roast beef. I finished with the baked Alaska and my husband had the strudel. Given the location, it was good value and we had a discount because we had visited Somerset House. The staff were friendly and service was excellent. We will definitely be back for that schnitzel.

Although the dinner service felt rushed it was still pleasant and the food was delicious. Breakfast lunch or dinner, I haven’t been there and not liked the food.

The cafe ice cream dessert was outstanding

Very nice food Service wasn’t the best unfortunately - they gave us some bread but no plates to eat them on and also forgot to bring my dad’s glass of wine that he ordered. They gave us some chocolate truffles for my dad’s birthday which was a nice touch although after they took our dessert plates away we were ignored When the bill came they then charged us for the bread even though we hadn’t asked for it The staff were all very friendly though

Lovely food in a lovely restaurant, my score for the service would have been higher if the staff in the restaurant had been a little friendlier.

Personale di sala attento e cortese, molto professionale, impeccabile con rare eccezioni, in positivo e in negativo (in positivo ottimo il giovane Luc). Buona carta con scelte anche originali e buona carta dei vini.

What an amazing place to have you meal in. Im so glad this kind of establishments still exist, providing you with great customer service services up to fine dining standards combined with a great taste of the food. Can wait to visit again soon.

The restaurant is a nice cozy low lit environment for a good meal with company. The food is ok, nothing special. The bread basket given at the start of the meal was rock hard, probably the bread had been reheated in an oven too much and gone hard. We had to ask for side plates to butter the bread on. At some point during our meal, the waiter spilled coke in our bread. He took it away but didn’t replace it. Then schnitzels were good and the chips and veg and salad. Waiter brought dessert menu. When he came to take our order we asked for five more minutes to consider it. He then ignored our table for about 20 minutes until we asked another colleague to order the desserts. Then he finally turned up to take the order. He didn’t answer my question about the size of the dessert portion properly and as a result I ended up with a huge dessert. The pancakes were not freshly done, more likely to have been batch cooked earlier and then reheated. The whole meal was distinctly mid. Soft drinks cost £5 each. Overall the silver service is crap, the cutlery just dumped on the table and the waiter we had was not professional at all. It is worth to try if you don’t mind paying for a distinctly average experience but I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon

This place is amazing. Food is delicious and staff is experienced. They surprised us for my boyfriends birthday without even telling them about it. Luca is the best waiter ever

I've been fortunate enough to visit the Delaunay a number of times. It is one of my favourite restaurants. There is always a nice welcome , excellent service & delicious food.

Yo había sugerido a mis amigos que nunca han estado en el Delaunay, que deberíamos ir a celebrar que los tres nos convertimos en pensionistas! Nuestros padres eran vecinos antes de que naciéramos - larga amistad. Teníamos una mesa en la parte media del restaurante, el servicio y la comida eran excelentes. No se menciona Gluten Free en el menú, pero la mayoría de los platos se pueden adaptar. Al final de la comida mi amigo se desmayó, nada que ver con el restaurante - pero debo felicitar a otro comensal que vino en nuestra ayuda, y fue a buscar los primeros auxilios del restaurante, que fue muy atento y tomó el control de la situación. Gracias de nuevo y nos vemos pronto.

I went first at The Delaunay with my wife, Sat 8th of March 2025, then on that day at 17.00p.m, I spoke to the receptionist at the entrance to book a table for Today 25th of March 2025. I show her the table I wanted, she said it's table 2, I said O.K. Today, when I came I discovered that the table I wanted, was actually table 3, and she blames me saying, you requested table 2. I'm not working in this restaurant, so how I can request a table with a number. The Manager came, and he was as worse as her. I won't go anymore to The Delaunay.

Mi sobrina quería llevarnos a cenar. Originalmente sugerimos Zedel, pero un sábado por la noche no podía conseguir una mesa y así que miramos este lugar que creo que es un restaurante hermano. Vinimos a las 7 pm, pero nuestra mesa no estaba lista, así que nos sentamos en el bar y pedimos una botella de vino. Después de 20 minutos nos mostraron a nuestra mesa. Mi sobrina comió lubina mientras compartíamos un schnitzel de pollo y carne franca servida con ensalada de patatas y chucrut, además de un pedido de judías. La calidad de la comida era excelente. De postre mi esposa y yo compartimos un budín de dátiles. Tuvimos café blanco plano también que de nuevo estaba muy bien hecho. El servicio era genial también y a diferencia de Zedel no teníamos prisa.

Had a fantastic celebratory meal here with friends. The setting is majestic, grand, almost old worldly yet intimate. Like your table is a cozy island in a fast moving river. A busy night, but the service was quick and attentive with some great personal suggestions. Food was hearty and traditional, without being too heavy. The Wiener Schnitzel Holstein, Pickled Cumber, Paprika Green Beans and Soufflé are highly recommended. I wish the oysters had come off the half-shell and my dirty martini with an olive garnish.

Booked a table for dinner as part of a 60th birthday celebration. This is a fabulously stylish restaurant. Classic European menu. Attentive and professional waiting staff. Great atmosphere. You absolutely feel like you are somewhere special, and although its not cheap, you really do get the 5* treatment. The vibe is relaxed, and all of the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent; rock oysters, duck confit, steak tartare....all delicious. Would recommend, and will book again.

Fantastic place to have an expresso and Almond Croissant

IF you like your flat white coffee "throthy" as I do, Delaunay's is second to none in London. And for me No 1, before the Savoy's or Zedel's the latters' equally exceptional. And it is delivered moreover with a smile. First class, truly.

I remember when this place first opened back in 2011 I think, we all loved the sense of theater and as I returned after a long break nothing has changed. It’s still wonderfully sparkly, with brisk service and delicious food cooked perfectly. It’s a joy to have a table cloth and fresh bread too, a bargain for the £2 cover charge. It’s not cheap and service charge is 15% too but pure theatre and perfect for people watching!

The food lacked quality, we ordered Wiener schnitzel and potato salad. Both had nothing to do with a proper Wiener schnitzel&salad you’d get in Vien! The potatoes were undercooked and lacked sauce. Apple strudel was stale!! Apples were raw and filled with raisin - which is totally unexpected. The dough was thick and like plastic. It was obvious that it was not fresh. I would never come to this place.

really good seeing ur waitress put lynx on in the back round during ur meal, also can here the waitresses swearing at the customers they don’t like but i could here all the things they were saying. and my apparent cleaned cutlery well i love it so much when they have dried up bits of onions on the forks.

A good pre theatre fixed price dinner. Order by 6pm £30 for 3 courses and a glass of wine! The monkfish tartare and seabass were good!

Lovely restaurant with great food and (for breakfast at least, reasonable prices). The eggs royale was fantastic with a perfectly rich sauce and was well plated with fresh salmon and a crisp warm muffin to go alongside - however in retrospect I wish I’d only gotten one egg, as while poorly explained on the menu (or maybe I just poorly understood!) if you order with two eggs you are effectively ordering two eggs royales, which was a bit too much food but I can’t complain too much as it was lovely. Someone else ordered the pancakes which I hear were great, and the pain aux raisin we were given as we were celebrating a birthday was fantastic. Strongly reccomend to all in search of a good celebration breakfast in London.

I adore this restaurant, I took my mum here for her birthday. The service was fast and welcoming despite being very busy. Food was incredible. Amazing beef Wellington. My mum ordered a half lobster thermidor....they informed us they had run out of half lobsters, so they gave her a full lobster for the price of a half. Lovely staff, great food, absolutely coming again. These guys are Michelin material.

We had breakfast here for my mother's 80th birthday, we booked for 8, we ended up with 10 guests only 2 days before - their booking team is so accommodating so it was no problem - on the day everything was perfect - My mum was delighted and so very happy with the breakfast party. I cannot find fault with anything i had nor any of our guests, which included people with certain dietary requirements - the breakfasts were excellent! The service! What can I say? polite and so very attentive ( but not to the point of excess). The staff exhibited attention to detail, dedication, pride and commitment to a job that is certainly not easy. These attributes can be somewhat rare these days given the working conditions at other restaurants I've been to. My final words - you are all a credit to the restaurant and yourselves. Had a family breakfast at Delaunays last Saturday. It was my 80th birthday. The restaurant went overboard to accommodate us . The meal was delightful and I even got a danish pastry birthday cake. The food as usual was great. Big thanks to Sophia in reservations who made it happen. Annie

Went for dinner. Warm welcome and sat at the bar to have a drink before our meal. Opted for the 3 courses for £34.95 . Water provided without asking and frequently topped up .Good sized portions and tasty , excellent service felt we were able to take our time no attempt at rushing or up selling. Felt opulent with good atmosphere. Would recommend

Delicious vegan meal served in authentic cafe atmosphere. Lovely efficient attentive service. Really enjoyed the mango and passion slice served with a big proper pot of tea.

Went for pre dinner theatre menu that was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was excellent with a warm and welcoming ambience. My company uses one of the private rooms for breakfast meetings and these are also top notch as is lunch where I entertain clients. It’s always a ‘proper’ dining experience by a team that is well organised and maintain consistent levels of quality and service. Well done 👍

The ambience of this place was just stunning! We had some lunch and coffee at the Delaunay Counter, the food was very good and the service was just lovely. They made our first day in London and my birthday special. Even the tea, which came in a big pot, including a seperate little can of milk, was fun. Thank you :)

Superb food in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Helen our waitress was absolutely charming and knowledgeable regarding the menu and able to offer suggestions and reccomendations as to the best accompaniments to our main course choices and she was right in every respect. The only improvement possible to our experience would have been to have been seated differently - with a better view of the whole restaurant, away from the dumb waiters and entrance to the toilets. Delicious high tea in an authentic atmosphere!

Very nice restaurant. We came for my birthday and had the Prix Fix 3 course menu £35. Very nice. And we had a bottle of wine (£35). Waiter was very nice and so is the atmosphere :-)

We booked in for afternoon tea and it was great fun. The patisserie was particularly good as promised by the chef. Not enough tea in the pot to wash it all done though.

February 2025. We were a party of two for breakfast. Beautiful setting, excellent service and delicious, generous breakfast. Gluten free is well catered for, if required. We've visited a few times now and love it here. I'll be back in March for a birthday treat for my partner and I know he'll absolutely love it.

The Delaunay is always reliable. Tasty food, attentive service and decent wine list. It’s always noisy and busy, which is part of the experience.

A brilliant option for lunch. Can’t fault it in any way. Olga deserves a special mention as she is efficient, polite, friendly and charming.

Had a lovely meal here. Pricey but worth it. V tasty schnitzel and superbly cooked steak. It was noisy, but only with the buzz of happy diners. The door man is a gem.

Went for my birthday with my husband. Enjoyed the food and didn't feel awkward asking for tap water. Wine was good, cheapest was £35. Good prices overall, especially the set menu. The warm bread given at the beginning was a nice touch

We went to the Delaunay after work. Food was exceptional. I really enjoyed the aubergine and chickpea curry with a side of roasted vegetables. The menu was very varied with very nice drinks. It’s good to see a smart restaurant accommodate and offer a good variety of non-alcoholic drinks too. The setting was also very pleasant. Look forward to returning!

If you’re looking for the perfect place to dine then The Delaunay should be top of your list. I’ve dined many a time here and at The Counter and it’s the impeccable service, attention to detail and food that brings us back. A busy grand dining room in the heart of theatre land (book your table). Start with one of the great cocktails in the bar before moving to your table. 5 star service (really a 10), beautifully dressed tables and exquisite dishes & generous portions that follow. (Save room for dessert). The baked Alaska was incredible. Do check the specials menu. Delaunay you are a beacon of what fine hospitality is in London and credit to all involved that make dining here very memorable, hosts, servers, chefs, baristas, mixologists. Cannot recommend it enough. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We very much enjoyed our meal in every way. The only blot on the proceedings was that the chicken soup was extremely salty. I consumed it but didn’t enjoy it for that reason. Spent the remainder of the day drinking water.

An unpretentious, yet tasty meal, with a vibrant and bustling atmosphere. We ate here post-theatre, and were able to get a booking on the day. The website advertises an experience akin to the Grand Cafés of Europe, and it certainly evoked that feeling, eating hearty, well cooked food, amidst the general hubbub of a reassuringly busy (and classy, from a by-gone era) dining room. The hubbub made for a fantastic backdrop and yet, despite the sheer number of covers, we experienced an efficient yet friendly service. The filet steak, and chicken schnitzel were stand-out. The Baked Alaska, the cherry on the (flambéd ice-cream and meringue based) cake. Around £100 a head, seemed like a reasonable price for three courses with drinks. Although there were options for quicker or cheaper set-menus, and more expensively indulgent choices available. We'll happily come back to sample more of their food.

Ma fille (23 ans) et moi-même avons passé une journée à Londres. Nous avons voulu plonger dans l'atmosphère britannique durant cette journée. C'est pour cette raison que nous avons choisi ce restaurant très bien situé, très élégant. Le service était impeccable. La table était très bien dressée: serviettes en tissu et service de table en argent. Nous recevions gracieusement de l'eau en carafe dès que notre verre était vide. Le petit déjeuner est servi jusqu'à midi. C'est un plat typique à déguster. La carte est assez diversifiée. La note est assez salée, mais nous ne regrettons pas. Le pourboire a été intégrée discrètement dans la note.

Amazing atmosphere and service will definitely be back!

After a whole year and a few months my wife and I still think fondly of the 2 times we had breakfast here.

Food arrived promptly but was not particularly hot which was further compounded by being served on cold plates. The gents toilets had obviously not been checked for some time with towels all over the floor and areas around urinals not cleaned adequately. Will not return.

A wonderful lunch time meal. Brilliant and attentive service from Mia. A lovely person. Will definitely be back again.

Significantly better than sister restaurants at the Wolseley. The service is impeccable. Monkfish and edelweiss cocktails were the highlights.

Whilst the food was okay the service was extremely poor. Water not replenished, no one asked if our food was okay or if we wanted another drink. 15 minutes after being given the dessert menu no one had returned to take our order. We then ran out of time as we were going to the Theatre so, 2 hours for 1 main course each - appalling! Saimir was extremely apologetic and offered a complimentary dessert but we had no time. He has offered to "look after" us if we contact him should we revisit but not sure that we will - very disappointing

Delicious taste with good service ...

The place was almost full. The ambience is quiet nice The service is also decent I am a vegetarian glad they had many options for vegetarians too. This place is at a walkable restaurant from temple station. I would visit them again soon.

The afternoon tea was really top notch. The pastries were all 10/10 and lovely variety - sacher torta, cheesecake, pistachio cake and lemon tart. Much better than some other famous London places that sell afternoon teas for double the price. Great tea selection, I particularly enjoyed their own blend of tea. We couldn’t finish all, so they packed the scones to take home as per our request. Not touristy and not full of people taking pictures of everything. Just a lovely atmosphere of people who appreciate quality.

Had Christmas Eve dinner here a la carte. This place just oozes atmosphere. Good service and food.

A lovely brunch on New Year's Day. The service was top notch and the food very good also. A smart but casual feel. I enjoyed it immensely.

Fancy traditional English tea. Make sure to book reservations!! The desserts were incredible and tastey. We ordered the mint tea which was excellent. It’s pricey, but thats London.

A Lunch to Remember at The Delaunay Bar My wife and I recently had the pleasure of enjoying an incredible lunch at The Delaunay Bar in London, and it was nothing short of exceptional. I indulged in their schnitzel, which was an absolute triumph—golden, crispy, and perfectly seasoned, with every bite better than the last. My wife was equally thrilled with her choices. She started with the prawn cocktail, which she declared the best she’s ever had—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. This was followed by eggs benedict that were simply divine, with perfectly poached eggs and a hollandaise sauce so silky it was like a work of art. What really made our visit special was the sensational service. The waitstaff were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our every need was met with grace and professionalism. Their genuine warmth and impeccable attention to detail elevated the meal into an unforgettable dining experience. The Delaunay Bar is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of fine dining and outstanding hospitality. We can’t wait to return and relive the magic on our next visit to London!

Great ambience and atmosphere. Tasty food served at good portions. The orchestra was delightful.

The food and service were really good. The beef stroganoff, steak poivre and chicken schnitzel were really good, so was most of our side orders. I would not recommend the dessert though, its really not worth it.

I visited without a reservation around 11:30 on a weekday during the holiday season, but I was able to get in right away. The doorman, receptionist, and waiter were all very nice and I had a great time😌 When I was in London, I visited to eat at a restaurant with a typical London atmosphere, and it had a great holiday atmosphere 🥺 However, due to the strong yen, the food was quite expensive (about 35 pounds = 7,000 yen including tax and service charge for two dishes), and the main dish was rather simple and seasoned, so I gave it a 3 star rating. The first dish of soup was very flavorful and plentiful, warming my cold body to the core and making it very delicious🥣

I’ve been coming since I was 25, it’s been 12 years. Honestly they are incredible. I’ve had a birthday breakfast here and they are wonderful. So attentive and couteous, and great with children. Highly recommend for breakfast especially around Christmas time. I will continue to come back here for as long as they stay.

It might be a tad pricey, but the food, service and atmosphere are great. It's a good treat if you're in the area.
