We had a really enjoyable experience here on a trip to Manchester. The team were very welcoming and we were served our food quickly. Lovely pub grub. Great atmosphere and queer friendly too! The meals at the Deangate were as expected, what was surprisingly enjoyable and so much fun was the comedy night that we eexperienced on Sunday night 18th August. not only was it enjoyable with many laughs, the comedians were friendly and engaging. One of the team not only helped to book us an Uber to our motel, but also paid for it which was so unexpected and kind. Thank you Deangate for making our time spent on Manchester so memorable kind regards Beverly and Ned from Melbourne Australia.

A pub is just a building with a few beer pumps until you add people. The Deansgate used to be an okay boozer then shut down and Greene King took over an did a moderately okay, to be honest, not all that great makeover. However, what they couldn't take account of from Bury St Edmunds was that they would get some of the loveliest, friendliest staff in the country, if not the world. From the blokes on the door, who are there to welcome you and help you, not to chuck you out or refuse entry, to Bradley and all his lovely colleagues behind the bar "hello Gary, how are you, same as last week?" with a big smile, this is a pub of people . Go there, have a good time and chat to the door team, they are ace blokes - and it takes a lot for me to say that!

I ordered nachos and it took forever to get to me. When I did get them there was barely any cheese at all (see photo.) I then asked for more cheese in a dish so then I could just dip my chips, it took over an hour and multiple reminders to the staff that I wanted a dish of cheese. When I did get the cheese it was an extremely small dish again, and it was not enough to finish the chips. I was left with more than half of the plate of chips left. Absolutely do NOT recommend.

Nice beer garden, friendly enough and helpful staff, however I've never had worse food at a Greene King pub in all my life and I used to work at one so I've seen what's been sent back by customers... £15 burger and chips with 16 fries (counted) and a 'cheese and bacon' burger with no cheese, sauce, lettuce and the tiniest piece of fatty bacon in Manchester, such a shame... Chefs phoning it in and ruining it for the rest of the staff, can't say I'll be returning here with the many other and better options in Manchester for food and drinks

Then the steak sandwich was a joke......dry packet fried onions and the smallest bit of steak ive ever seen #Greeneking sort yaselves out disgraceful.

Considering this pub is run by the largest managed pub co in the UK and is Cask Marque credited, it is a poor show when they only have the bland House Bitter on cask this Friday night. First time visiting since reopening, and we were not disappointed. The layout is basically the same with the quirky pew like seating on one of the walls. The staff seemed a little uncertain of where things were and if they stocked certain items such as Ginger beer or certain types of wine but they persisted and were helpful. We put this down to new staff following the re opening. Nice atmosphere and pleasant decor, all in all a nice experience. Handy for the metro as not far from Deansgate/Castlefield. Went there tonight at about 5.15 and found it very quiet and got a seat for a change, which was nice. Met a gentleman from Ireland who was a rugby fan and he was having a great time also. Went back today to meet some friends, and the pub was still popular, with prompt service. Nice and quiet today, horrible weather so a good sanctuary.

I like this pub and I visit fairly regularly but I had a bad experience with the doormen on a recent visit which has really ruined this place for me. I arrived at the pub to attend a private function on the top floor around 7.30pm. I was dropped off by an Uber directly outside the door having come straight from my home. At the time I was the on the phone to my partner and after saying goodbye and hanging up directly outside, attempted to enter the pub. One particular doorman appeared to take umbrage with this situation and proceeded to ask me "how much I'd had to drink", after replying, "none at all... I've just stepped out of that taxi directly from home"... I received the fabled/classic "not tonight" response. Inflated ego and a desire to flex a misplaced sense of power and self importance, this did nothing but perpetuate the stereotype of an old school city centre 'bouncer'. After reasoning with 2 of his colleagues they agreed to my entry as long as I "didn't cause any trouble" and then attempted to justify their colleagues actions by claiming he is "just doing his job". If this is how he does his job, he's bad at it and doing harm to the establishment. I'd suggest The Deansgate review their choice of doormen or provide them with guidance/training as this experience only served to start my evening on a sour note and likely means I won't visit again. I'll be putting a complaint in writing to the Deansgate directly.
