Fountain House in Manchester

One of the best Sunday lunches in a long time! Roast Porchetta was perfectly cooked & would recommend the cauliflower cheese side! Nice pub atmosphere in the centre of town, will come again!

Stag and his team were welcoming and helpful. We had a delicious dinner with live music in a classy pub. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for on a Friday night and we highly recommend The Fountain House to our Aussie friends visiting Manchester!

Excellent food, best vegetarian roast in Manchester. Alex was an attentive host, the asking of additional cream for the mushroom soup was no problem (no charge also). Small cauliflower cheese. Needs more cauliflower and more cheese, though wonderful taste. Bread always needs butter. Maybe an oversight. Go, great service and lovely building

The best Sunday roast, Yorkies were lovely and crispy, lovely rich gravy , the beef and veg were really tasty. The service was fantastic from both the bar and table servers. Jasper was our server and he was 5 ⭐

The food was really nice, well put together and nicely presented. Definitely better than your average pub food. Ingredients tasted fresh and portions were really good. A nice selection of drinks, cocktails and mocktails. The staff were attentive and very polite. The only downside was the music selection, which wasnt particularly good and a little too loud for a Saturday afternoon and a small number of people dining at the time. Overall it was a good visit, thank you.

We have recently just come across the fountain house. What can we say! The Sunday dinners are amazing! The fish and chips was perfect too! Our server ella is an absolute credit to the fountain house. Very welcoming, very helpful, always has a smile on her face. nothing has been to much for her on our visits! See you again next week! X

i tried The Fish and chips meal , it was really outstanding. the local beer ( Ladger ) was having very amazing rich of taste. And many thanks to ALEX S, he was cheerful, keen on customer satisfaction and I enjoyed talking to him.

Wedding reception,followed by very upmarket international performer's, went on till late

Sat outside as it was a warm night watching all the young ones going off in every direction to get to where they wanna be nice evening

Whilst other similar businesses thrive, Fountain House is empty

Had my sons wedding reception here,the place is nice and the food was lovely A great night..

Thinking back to the experience I want to change the review: the two dishes ordered were excellent, the waiter was very courteous and kind, we trusted him with the choice of a local beer and we were really satisfied!

The menu advised us to ask the server for information on the pie of the day, when we asked the straight answer was “Beef”, had there been a little more time and effort made in explaining that this came with a Marrow Bone filled with fat sat in the middle of the pie this would not have been ordered, , also the pie had very little gravy and was very dry(possibly a small jug of gravy to accompany the dish). We also ordered the Burger which was very tasty and succulent, very much enjoyed this.

Lovely old place with lots of history and very welcoming staff.

Had a lovely meal at Fountain House yesterday, we were served by Alex S who did a fabulous job of looking after us; very friendly service. The food was lovely, massive portion and good quality food. I had a club sandwich and fries. Everything was well executed, I would go back again on the strength of that visit.

Our first visit to the fountain House, on the 30/6/24 chose due to the reviews and was not disappointed.when we arrived and was looking at the menu AlexC come over to us and introduced himself to us and explained that if we didn't want to sit upstairs we could go downstairs to the restaurant.He took us down and explained the menu and took our drink order.we decided to have the Sunday roast me beef my partner chicken asked if chicken was on the bone he said yes partner prefers off the bone breast if possible alex said he would ask the chief, told us the chief could do. So thanks to the chief for accommodating,After the meal had a desert overall a lovely meal and excellent service from Alex a credit to him self for a young lad of 18. Me and my colleagues came here for lunch and drinks on a Friday. It was fairly quiet but the food and service were fantastic. Jaspher who was our server was friendly and attentive!

Had a really enjoyable first meal there, would recommend the pate profiteroles with morello cherries fantastic starter, Sea bass was excellent and the fish and chips ,finished off with a sticky toffee pudding and Eton mess,the whole meal was excellent couldn't fault any course. Very friendly person serving us,hope I have the right name Christakis, knowledgeable about each course and made the meal more enjoyable.Will definately go back for sure, a great find in Manchester. Went with two friends we all came away praising the place fully.

Really happy with the service. I have type 1 diabetes and need to know exactly when food will be out and ready due to Insulin to eating times. The waitress made the chefs aware and everybody was in contact to make the whole experience easy and. Enjoyable

Attended for a pub quiz was told we will wait a bit longer for people to attend, we ended up being the only guests didn’t have the decency to tell us the quiz was cancelled, we bought two rounds while waiting and left us just sitting there waiting

Canceled a meal to attended a pub quiz, quick was canceled as we were the only people that showed (shows how like they are) told quiz was cancel brought 2 pints each , no conciliation drink, no sorry. Nothing would not attended any quiz and definitely wouldn’t go again, bad attitude no atmosphere. Awful

Went last night for a booked meal at 8pm but had to wait till 8.20 to be seated. The steak meal was great but the noise from the pub floor above was incredible. I struggled to hear what my partner or the lovely waitress was saying. I don't think I'll be visiting again.

Had cocktails here with friends and they were gorgeous. Quick service as well!

Myself and my 2 children went here for a later tea. The service was welcoming, and the place was lovely. Quiet, maybe 3 tables were full, but the food was amazing. I had fish and I must say one of the best I've had in a very long time was soft, melted in your mouth and very tasty. Kids were also happy with the burgers for the kids' menu. Highly recommended 👌🏼

Food was really lovely. I had hot smoked salmon and it was delicious. Wine was lovely too (red) I've marked atmosphere down slightly as it was a weekday at about 4pm during the Easter school holiday and in the main we were the only people in there. Having said that it was peaceful and relaxing and the ambience was lovely.

Starters were great but the mains were average. Waitress was lovely but she forgot that we asked for the bill and we were sat waiting.

Awful experience… our reservation was for 18:30, we ordered our food 10 minutes after that.However they had only 1 waiter and 1 bartender and we have waited for our food for more than an hour. Not recommended!

It was a really nice place to have a drink, and although we didn't eat here it looked like it would be a good place to eat. Quieter atmosphere from a number of other places, easier to talk and socialise.

Took shelter out of the rain. A nice bar for a drink. We didn't eat here, but the food that we saw coming out looked good. Only for we had dinner reservations, we would have stayed.

I had the Sunday Roast Chicken and Manchester Tart, both where delicious and well presented. Coffee is not bad also. Downstairs is much nicer than the bar area upstairs.

Visited in a lunch time following a trip to an exhibition at Manchester Central. This is literally a 5 minute walk from there. It was very quiet (had only just opened). Fish and chips were lovely.

Delicious food, outstanding staff and great atmosphere. It's a bit pricey, but if you're willing to pay extra definitely consider it. Great location too.

Sunday dinner here is bloody gorgeous. Discovered it just before Christmas 2023 (always knew it was there but never went in). So glad we did though, have been 4 or 5 times now. The Sunday lunch is so good and the Patè to start is to die for. The other half has the soup of the day and is impressed that it's actually a different soup each week, which is always tasty. Only downside is they don't do a 2 course deal because if they did we would 100% go every Sunday 😅

Met for a great business networking event, tea & coffees ok, but tea flask pump didnt work, tea dripped out....so coffee it was, didnt see any staff anywhere to talk too.. Lovely beef stroganoff for lunch with chips, rice and lovely beef barms, absolutely fantastic BNI Networking event, just missing a little service, on the simple stuff teas & coffees.

Very nice basement restaurant with a nice open kitchen and a very helpful and friendly staff. The food was excellent and the desserts were very tasty!

A great suggestion from my Mancunian friends. They rated it highly Manchester Tart was on the pudding list. Good food, reasonably priced and great service from the team. I'd recommend it.

I visited with a friend as a Confidentials voucher gave us a £50 spend for £25. I started off strong with the mushroom parfait starter, but the crab burger wasn’t as enjoyable. It may have been down to the other ingredients, but it just didn’t have enough of a predominant crab taste to me 😅 Service was up to the mark.

While the starters (Korean cauliflower & buffalo mozarella) and staff were outstanding, the main dishes and certain elements of the ambiance left room for improvement, in my opinion. MAIN COURSE: the steak and the chicken schintzel were good, but fell a little flat and lacked the same punch as the starters. AMBIANCE: the restaurant itself has a lovely aesthetic with charming brick walls that create a warm and inviting environment. But this is somewhat disrupted by the stark lighting from the open kitchen, which contrasts with the restaurant's dim lighting. Also, the music didn't quite harmonize with the overall vibe the restaurant seems to aim for. Don't get me wrong, there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with classic jams like 'Africa' by Toto and 'Love Shack', but the music just felt out of place. In my opinion, the restaurant has the potential to offer a more cohesive dining experience.

Had our wedding meal here . If I could give more than 5 stars I would . From the original booking right through , the communication was fantastic . Natalia did a great job of organising the day , what a great job she did . The room and set up was fabulous and all staff on the day were absolutely lovely , couldn’t do enough for you . The meal was outstanding , served quickly and efficiently and all requests taken care of. Highly recommend this place .

Been here for the first time and food and service were brilliant, Mikey looked after us and he was polite and very professional, so was the waiter when I’ve asked if they could charge my phone as I was about to go to the theatre and needed my tickets . Many thanks , we will definitely will be back again , Happy New Year 😊

Very nice and welcoming place, excellent food and more than fair prices

Very friendly and helpful staff. The children's menu is well priced and the food was delicious however the children’s burger and chips was substantial, the same size as the adult's, whereas the children’s pasta was a tiny bowl. The meals were also not served at the same time (over 10 minutes between different meals). We ordered 3 meals with chips and asked for ketchup, receiving one tiny ramekin to share. The food was great-tasting other than a very strange chocolate mousse dessert. Pretty well priced. The music in the bar on the mezzanine floor above is very very loud and so the restaurant is rather loud too, also aggressively air-conditioned (in late December). The building is beautiful, inside and out, with lovely furtniture and fittings. We would go back.

Usually can not fault. Although, the last time I went in, it was my mum's birthday (19/12/23), and I was served a 'burnt to a crisp' starter. Even the filling was rock hard. The staff clearly knew it was under satisfactory. As it was served, they and the chef were watching us to see whether I would eat it. NICE TRY, but it didn't work! If you know something is that bad. DON'T SERVE IT!

Last time I dined here it was the Albert Square Chop House. Fantastic food this time around with great service and a wonderful atmosphere. A great little find.

Got my order wrong so only half of my food arrived. Once they realised their mistake it took 15 minutes to cook the other half in which time the first half got cold. Food was good though.

Had a very good evening out, really enjoyed the atmosphere, good bar service, & excellent food to many varieties to name all, will be back soon.

Brilliant place for Sunday lunch

Came here on a busy Friday early evening, sat in the bar area, was a lovely atmosphere inside, nice and warm, and I must say, some great tunes playing in the background! Had mixed selection of bar snacks, all delicious! A couple drinks and cocktails (got there for happy hour where cocktails 2 for £12), shout out to the 2 lovely Barmen Lewis & Paul, always serving us with a smile. Thanks FH, we’ll be back soon!

Went on our Works Christmas Meal here. There were 18 of us and we had a private room and it was really nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and efficient. Food was good too. Would definitely recommend.

Just been to FH in Manchester, stumbled across as was hidden by building works at cathedral. Wow, what a hidden gem, food was good but have to say the service that we got from the bar man called Alex was exceptional, would go back purely to be served in the bar by that young man! Thanks for a great evening FH!

They told me and my partner the payment didn’t go through (when it had) made us wait 30 minutes to pay and told us we must pay again upstairs. Nevertheless a few hours later I checked my bank and they had charged me twice. I had to ring up to get a refund for the double payment and they did nothing to compensate for my time wasted. I would encourage people to check their bills if choosing to dine here. I was also told that they would refund me within 2 hours, check my bank the next day and the money is still taken!!! Having to now do a reverse transaction with my bank, unbelievably bad and I would absolutely not recommend nor would I want to dine here ever again, day light robbery.
