The Dairy in Larne

Would have given it more of a rating only we had not booked and were turned away even thought it was more than half empty. It was early in the morning. Have not been back since.

We like this restaurant as the food choices are good, staff are friendly and helpful and there is free parking. However when the menu states leg of lamb you expect it to be that in nice slices. It actually is pulled lamb compressed into a ball with quite a lot of fat. Not what we expected and did not enjoy.

One of our favourite spots especially for a family brunch. Food is fabulous. Menu keeps favourites but also has specials that can earn a permanent spot. The building is a well done conversion of old farm buildings in a beautiful countryside village. Staff are helpful but not intrusive. It does get busy so do try to book online. On a dry day do try the outdoor seating areas - these may not need booked.

We were a family group of 10 visiting the area on 14/08/24 who arrived without a reservation for a late lunch, we were luckily able to sit together, despite it being quite busy. We can be a difficult group when eating out due to a few different allergies among us but the staff were brilliant, they gave us all the info we needed and even went to check things with the chef and kitchen to make sure we were safe. The staff were all wonderful they really looked after us and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The food was all absolutely delicious we very much enjoyed it from the toddlers of the group right up to their great granny! We finished off with some Mauds ice creams which again were really good and generous portions, and even those with dairy allergies could enjoy one due to the plant based options. All in all an excellent experience with amazing food and wonderful staff I would highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area.

Tremendous from start to finish !! Great for parking, Met at restaurant entrance, shown straight to table (booked one day in advance) plenty of staff in a busy restaurant. Lots of dishes I’d fancy on the menu. Lovely pint of IPA with a gorgeous steak sandwich, thumbs up from husband, I’d a smash burger which was juicy and full of flavour. Not hurried, just a perfect relaxing afternoon and bought a few bits from the shop on the way out. Staff really attentive throughout the visit. Brilliant, top notch spot.

Always excellent but big shout out to lovely gentleman serving in butcher counter today...when I asked him about buying plant pot...even though shop was busy he was so kind and helpful and really went out of his way ...we really appreciated it as I wanted it for garden this afternoon...thank you so much you were very kind...this is what makes the dairy special 😀

Not my first time but I wanted to write a second review. The Dairy continues to be fab - well worth booking online to be sure of a table as it is busy. The food continues to be great but I wanted to specifically mention the staff- they were brilliant. Very friendly and also professional. One waitress very kindly noticed my wee mum, (88 years young,) was sitting a little low for the table and she brought cushions to put under and behind her to ensure her comfort. It was such a kind and thoughtful thing to do and was greatly appreciated. Oh and the shop is well worth a browse too. Highly recommend the Dairy.

Took my partner here for a birthday lunch today. Greeting with friendly relaxed staff. Food orders taken in good time. Compliments to the chef the food was absolutely delicious!!! Gluten Free order was accommodated, not all places do. Staff were busy but continued to be polite, friendly and efficient. Nice family business. We're looking forward to returning. Fabulous food. Every ingredient was spot on. Great with the kids as we were a large party. Pre ordered food and it was with us straight away. Thoughtful service with needy kids and would recommend to those looking for something tasty and quality.

Absolutely shocking service from an older waitress with dark hair, wish I’d have gotten her name but any staff member reading this will know exactly who I’m talking about because it was that bad. Had an issue with my roast beef ( it was cold and hard around the sides and I didn’t touch it) and mentioned this to the lovely male server at the till who was more than nice and offered to take this off the bill. This older lady over heard and came over for some reason clearly annoyed asking what the issue was- there was no issue as the lovely male waiter who couldn’t have been nicer took care of everything and might i add I am a returning paying customer and have enjoyed food MANY times in the past. I didn’t want to send my meal back when it came out as I didn’t want to make a fuss and I quietly mentioned this to the male server who I knew from previous times at the establishment. This lady caused a whole scene infront of other customers and my children saying “ well that’s why you send things back you should have sent it back” in an aggressive tone- everyone around stopped and stared as she was so loud and passive aggressive. She also kept questioning why the male server had took it off the bill, the whole situation was so tense and embarrassing. The male server on the till was embarrassed and so was I to say the least. Absolutely disgusting attitude from someone who is supposed to provide customer service it was laughable I hope when she reads this she is embarrassed because I absolutely would be. I will absolutely not be back. Lost a customer due to this one particular waitress who has tarnished the reputation of the whole business- every other staff member are more than nice and an absolute delight! She stuck out like a sore thumb. hope the owner reads this and decides to do something as something tells me this won’t be her first complaint! Disappointed to say the least.

Booked a table for my wife, baby and I for a Mother’s Day meal out. Arrived and got seated after a few mins delay, which we spent walking round the shop. No big deal. Got seated and a young waitress took our order, then nothing…. Waited for close to an hour, asked a member of staff if “we’d been forgotten about?” We had. Unfortunately this is not the first time this has happened us at The Dairy. Generally the food is very good, but the service is hopeless. Sadly I don’t think we will be back, too much effort to get there only for it to be a gamble if we will get our food or not.

First time coming here on Sunday morning. Beautiful area. I got a chai latte which was to die for!!! Then got the ultimate fry which had such amazing quality foods in it and so fresh, amazing value for money. Will defo be back!

Beautiful food staff and surroundings. Enjoying a brunch visit. Every meal ordered disappeared, with contented smiles at the end. Could not recommend it highly enough. There is a broad selection on the menu to cater all tastes. Don't forget to browse the Deli. A fantastic range of food and handcraft. Would advise booking to avoid disappointment.

We were disappointed on a previous visit to this place but decided to give it a second chance. I'm glad we did as the service has greatly improved and the food was thoughtfully presented with nice flavours. The only negative was the wooded chairs which consisted of wooden slats with small gaps between. Most uncomfortable seats ever, maybe some padding with help.

A lovely place food good but charging £1 each for cranberry sauce and horseradish beggars belief 🥺 would put me off going back.

Visited the Dairy for a late lunch, weather was rubbish but the welcome was warm. I had the lamb shoulder which was beautiful, well presented and delicious. My wife had the chicken wrap which she loved. Maud's ice-cream (local brand) and waffle with a lovely coffee. The staff are lovely and a credit to the establishment.

Sunday lunch but not what I expected in terms of flavour, quality or service. Order taken 15 mins after sitting down .We waited another 40-45 mins before the food arrived . My meal of lamb was look warn, looked as if it had been sitting a while as there was a crust on the mash and sauce had a top on it. My friends fish was overcooked, in a greasy batter with soggy chips. We waited for the waitress to come back to ask if all ok, in the end my friend took her fish back to the counter. The replacement was 5 mins coming back with no side of sauce and peas /lemon and not even an apology or a new knife and fork. So why did it take 40mins in the first place? Again no one came to ask if it was ok . I was never asked for a comment. My lamb was soft if flavorless , the mash was smooth but tasteless , not sure where the pesto was . The "greens" were two tiny bits of tender stem broccoli. Not sure what the purpose of the pomegranate seeds were in the pea velouté as there were no middle eastern vibes here. We got up and went o pay to be greeted with a smirking waitress who didn't even ask How was your meal ? Wont be back. Service was dreadful . Food not very inspiring or cooked well.. Outside marquee was leaking and we tried several chairs to find a dry one. We were offered a blanket which was good and needed.

Called over on the off chace of a table. packed for a tuesday lunch time. We were asked to wait for 15 minutes and they went out of their way to accommodate us. i’m delighted they did, food was amazing as was the service,a real gem, a recommendation from a local and an excellent recommendation it was. On a recommendation we stopped for lunch. Plenty of car parking on a level site. We had booked ahead as it was Friday and the restaurant was busy. The entrance to the restaurant is through the shop which has a butchery counter, the shop itself is beautifully set out with lots of ideas for that little something that you cannot buy elsewhere! Thinking of Christmas presents already!! We were quickly shown to our table which was outside under a covered area as it was not cold this was completely acceptable. We had trouble choosing from the extensive menu. Our order was taken after a reasonable amount of time and the food arrived within 30 mins, which was acceptable given how busy it was. I can highly recommend Beetroot Feta and Quinoa Salad with addition of chicken, Handmade beef burger, Dairyside Spring lamb and Salt and Chilli Chicken Wrap. They were all generous portions and extremely tasty. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and will definitely make a return visit.

That was the worst lunch experience we have ever had. Im not going to go into it all as there was to many issue so ill list them Served warm beer, 20 min before ordered, cold pate severed on warm plates, 1.25 minutes before main came, all meat dishes were tough and could not be eaten. One meal hadn’t even been started as service forgot about it, salad served in warm dish. The restaurant wasnt ever busy it was like we got the remain of the early service.

Another great experience all round. Friendly, efficient and attentive staff. Excellent local produce, expertly prepared and presented beautifully. We can’t recommend The Dairy highly enough. We’ve visited with different family members twice now, and will be back soon!

Our first visit to The Dairy. It had been recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. We’ve had breakfast at many establishments but this was definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. Quality cooking and delicious local food. We bought some takeaway cakes which were fabulous. The farm shop is great and we bought a few little treats. There is some outdoor seating which is a great option. My family (who live locally) will be regulars, It will now be our go to place for breakfast!!!

Staff were really friendly and food was lovely and reasonably priced. The only thing was our reservation was for 11:30, we arrived at 11:15 and (totally understandably) had to wait for 10 minutes before being seated - but the thing was they came over to us after 1 hour with the bill and asked us to settle up, without asking if we wanted another drink or dessert etc - seemed a bit tight to be expected to be in and out in an hour when mainly people would be going there for a relaxed brunch.

Had wonderful experience on my 1st visit so decided to treat my other half. Arrived on time for our booking. Was told it was busy. 50 mins later we were still waiting . We now had 40 mins before the table was required but we needed to leave 15 mins before that so when lunch arrived 55 mins after arrival we had to shovel it into us. Had planned on coffee and dessert but no time even though there should have been ample in the allotted table time. Was offered free ice cream but we were driving and had another appointment. I understand it was busy however, extra staff should have been there especially as outside had also been opened up. Also while we were there a chair broke and an elderly gentleman fell to the floor on his back. Staff were over right away but no good. I do hope my other half will go back another time and hopefully our experience will be better. I was just so disappointed after raving about the place to him.

Came here with family after doing the Gobbins coastal hike. Wide ranging menu catering for various diets, generous portions, prompt and friendly service. Tasteful decor and there is a good farm shop as well, plenty of parking. A real gem, better value than many pubs.
