the Daily Grind in Lichfield

I live in Lichfield and eat out frequently. This isn’t a place I usually go to and I certainly won’t be going again. Vegan lasagne according to the menu arrived smothered in dairy cheese. Good job I don’t have a dairy allergy. Waitress walked past and bumped the table spilling my drink all over the table and over my clothes. She dabbed at me with a serviette and that was it. Didn’t replace the drink or offer any other apology. Appalling food and service. Avoid. Lichfield has many wonderful places to eat and drink. This isn’t one of them.

Came here for a bite to eat recently at lunchtime as my mother and I wanted a change from our usual Lichfield restaurant and café haunts. We had soup with croutons ( very nice) with hot chocolate for myself and cappuccino for my mum. The issue wasn't with the food but a comment made by one of the waitresses as she brought our drinks. The Cappuccino came with a free biscuit whilst my hot chocolate did not. Again I did not mind this but the lady remarked to my mum " You get the biscuit but he doesn't". This made me feel like a small child and a second class customer. This ,for me, spoiled what would have otherwise been a fairly pleasant meal. Whilst I appreciate she said this in jest she ( inadvertently I hope?) made me feel small. I am not saying I would never visit again but ,for the moment, I am reluctant to I'm sorry to say...

Absolutely awful, miserable girl taking orders at the counter, no smiles and leaning up the counter. £12 for a poor quality burger, I’ve never seen my 16 year old son not finish a burger. He said it was worse than the school canteen and wished we’d gone to McDonald’s! I had a baked potato with prawns, tipped the prawn mayo out of the pot onto my potato and ended up with a wet and watery mess due to the amount of water in the bottom of the pot. Both meals were left unfinished. Probably the worst lunch we’ve ever had out, certainly the worst meal we’ve ever had in Lichfield.

Lovely food! Great choice. Although they got the order wrong they were really good and sorted it. Nice atmosphere and nice staff. Would definitely call again.

Been here quite often and are usually happy with the food and service. The lunch menu is good especially the baguettes, the cakes are delicious and the drink menu varied. But recently something has changed. The breakfast menu is not good. On a few recent visits we have ordered tinned tomatoes on toast and received 2 limp slices of cheap white toast with a single spoonful of tomato in the middle of one slice. Smashed avocado, which while nice enough was also a tiny portion of a single slice of bread with some avocado. Eggs Benedict with an untoasted muffin. A bacon sandwich with less than 2 rashers on 2 limp slices of again cheap white bread and last of all really dry toasties. If the lady behind the counter is talking to anyone else she doesn't even acknowledge you're there. And will even turn her back a bit. Chips are nice though. Considering the competition in Lichfields eateries this is not good business practice.

First and last visit. Always try local but very unfriendly and better places in town. Only had tea and toast and everything was wrong... tea weak as anything and toast was awful, not even "toasted" to a colour. Not cheap... won't be visiting again.

Very nice coffee shop with attractive decor, comfy seating and a remarkable wall which appears to be covered in pink roses. The service is quick, polite and friendly. I had a hot chocolate, just the thing on a frosty morning - may well try a delicious looking cooked breakfast with the husband in tow next time! Corner location ideal for people watching! Highly recommended indeed.

My boyfriend and I visited The Daily Grind on 28th October for a birthday brunch whilst on a day out to Lichfield. First impressions looked good, all tables were occupied and the decor was cool and trendy so we thought it must be popular. We managed to find 1 table in the middle of the shop which had crumbs on and had not yet been cleaned. We thought someone might come to clean it as we sat down but did not. We were told someone would come and take our order but menus said to place orders at the counter which was a bit confusing. We then proceeded to order at the counter. Staff were unfriendly and abrupt. No niceties.. no professionalism which you would expect in an independent coffee shop. However the lady who brought our food out to us was very pleasant. We ordered a cheese and bacon burger, eggs benedict and 2 milkshakes. Eggs benedict was served on its own, no side salad, dressing etc. Burger was average and served with a side helping of chips. The milkshakes were nice but I noticed another table who had theirs served afterwards had theirs with cream on the top and ours was just plain .. again a bit disappointed. As it was a birthday treat, we left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied on our first visit to Lichfield. Needless to say we will have a look at other local cafes for our next visit.

We visited for brunch on a Sunday and were very impressed. Firstly the comfy seats and funky decor. Then the prompt and friendly service. The GF options were also good. Our drinks and food arrived quickly and were delicious! Overall, a great experience.

We needed to eat before an event. The Daily Grind were fantastic and served us very quickly. Food was wonderful with a broad menu. They catered for a gluten free diet. Full marks and thank you.

The name belies the experience. A very pleasant 2 hour lunch, on spec, without a booking. Service friendly, prompt & competent. Wine excellent. Decent menu choices, food good & cake excellent. Just what this 50 something couple wanted for a semi retired chilled out Friday lunch together. Thank you

They’re trying to make a difference with their somewhat outlandish decor which is at least different from the usual Formica topped tables and straight back wooden chairs. They’re busy but well staffed and whilst I sat drinking my latte against a floor to ceiling padded pink wall I noticed hardworking staff rushing about and a constant stream of customers which is always a good sign. Reasonable prices

Really awful food . Gutted we went here as it spoilt a nice afternoon. Microwaved food that tasted awful. We will not be going back

This lovely place has a really varied menu and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The decor is inviting and it has a relaxed atmosphere. If you want a delicious food served by efficient, cheerful staff then this is your place.

It was a lovely warm September day so sat outside and had breakfasts with ccoffee. The food was lovely and you can tell the eggs are fresh. The staff were all fab and we will definitely visit again soon.

Visited here today with my wife and was impressed with ambience, menu choice and prices. My wife really enjoyed her Baked potatoes and Tuna and especially as the crispy skin indicated baking rather than microwaving. We will return.
