Dropped in for lunch on way back from a day out. We hadn’t booked, but were seated swiftly in the garden. Can honestly say this is one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten, and I have had a lot of pizza! Salad and fries also lovely and fresh. Even though it’s a 40 minute drive from our house, we will visit again just for the pizza!

Really disappointed with the trip advisors as much as the pub. This was our first time here so we were looking forward to it based on the recent reviews. I rang and tried to book a table for 6:00 to 6.30 and was encouraged to make it 6 as they were busy later. When we turned up we were the only people there for half an hour and then 2 other couples came in before we left at 7:25pm. We ordered the dough balls to start and the garlic butter was frozen. The menu of lots of different pies on offer from the previous tenants was still visible but not on offer. The menu was very limited unless you wanted pizza. I ordered the crown burger because the confit duck leg was unavailable. My partner ordered the chicken chasseur. The burger came out on the smallest plate I have ever seen a main course served on in a pub or restaurant and it was tiny. It was £16 and an extra £1 for the cheese and another £1.50 for the single slice of bacon. The portion of fries came in a mug size cup! The chicken chasseur sauce was see through and was extremely watery and wasn't right. It came with no veg and a similar size portion of chips to mine and that was it! £42.50 for one portion of dough balls and 2 mains. The most disappointing thing was the way that our complaint was dealt with by the manager and staff. Nothing not even an apology. We eat out every week and have only had to stop on the way home once before to get something more to eat. This was the second time!!

What a wonderful Sunday lunch. We had a late lunch and had roast Chicken, which was succulent. There was a really good variety of vegetables with a homemade Yorkshire Pudding. The pudding was fantastic, Rhubarb Crumble and Chocolate Hooky Sponge, as well as other ones to choose from. This pub is a gem, which has now been re-invented. There was a very welcoming log fire and the service was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. It is a great asset to the village of Deddington.

I went here last night with a friend, and was really pleased to have found it. You can get the usual fare of steaks and burgers but they also had a few more restaurant-style meals, eg. cassoulet, boeuf bourguignon and chicken chasseur. I had the confit duck cassoulet and it was excellent, melted in the mouth. The team obviously love food, and it comes across in the cooking. Was surprised how quiet it was on a Thursday, but wonder if this is because people don't really know they're there.

I remember when this was a traditional drinkers pub, the sort of place you could come for a game of darts or cards. It's been heavily refurbished since then, perhaps too much so and has lost much of its original character, although they have retained the log fire. It has subsequently been the 'Pie Pub' but that enterprise has now relocated a few miles down the road to the Marlstone Tavern in Milton. Meanwhile, back to the Crown & Tuns, we called in one lunchtime and found on offer a range of pizzas plus an otherwise rather modest menu. Steak & frites seems to be a bit of a house speciality - they were advertised on a board outside - so we opted to go for these. Coming with a choice of sauces, they were okay, but I wouldn't go any further than that. They were neither the tastiest nor the tenderest steaks I have eaten. They came on fairly small plates with the chosen sauce on top plus a portion of very skinny chips (fries). Personally I would like to have seen a few trimmings to liven up the plate a bit - perhaps a tomato and some mushrooms or something like that, even if that meant an extra pound on the cost. Ales are from Hook Norton. Would we revisit? Yes, but would probably try something else on the menu - perhaps give the pizzas a go.

Today we visited again for the first time since they opened. It was very easy to book over the phone the night before for the time we wanted. We were warmly welcomed (as always) and directed around to our table. A one way system is in place too. Our table had a paper bag with cutlery, sauces and a sanitising wipe in each. I’ve not had this service in a pub since COVID and was a nice reassurance that they are looking after us. We both had a pie, delicious as always. The prices are competitive with other Oxfordshire pubs and aren’t overpriced in our opinion. Freshly made and always tasty. You certainly get your monies worth. During these times it’s always important to support our local independents when we can, and there’s no where else nearby who do such great pies. Can’t wait to be back once again!

Last time I came here was probably in the last century when this was a typical drinking pub with darts and cards and food amounting to nothing more than crisps and nuts. This is now THE pie pub for Oxfordshire. Some commentators have remarked that the pies here are expensive, but these are not Pukka pies; indeed neither are they (very good) Pieminster pies - what we have here is a grade well above this: delicious, very large homemade pies, and a wide selection available. I opted for the Steak & Kidney pie (£14.25). This is a personal favourite of mine and was a staple on all pub menus a few years ago but is now becoming a rarity, tending to be replaced by 'Steak & Ale pie' (they do that here too!) but for me the dish isn't the same without the kidney. A delicious pie it was too, with lovely tender steak and a generous amount of kidney. This was served with chips (or you could have mash), veg and a jug of gravy. The veg was peas and carrots which are perhaps not the most inspired choice but the carrots really tasted like carrots, not the isipid orange discs that you get in so many places. The only ale on offer at the time of my visit was Hooky bitter, but it was in excellent condition. They expressed concern that beer might have to be thrown away in the event of another lockdown, hence the reduced selection. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they seem to have the Corvid thing very well organised. I hope it won't be so long till I come here again.

First time visit to Deddington with friends and we all chose the Sunday Lunch (Only choice is Roast Beef and veg served) I will review this aspect firstly. One platter came out with slices of beef, enough potatoes and a Yorkshire each. One pot containing a life supply of carrots for Bugs Bunny but not enough peas for 3 people to share. Gravy very thin and runny but potatoes were tasty the meat and subsequently whole meal lacked flavor and seasoning, especially when the gravy couldn’t save the day.I can appreciate the sentiment of sharing a platter, but if someone in the party takes more than their share it’s difficult to address the issue! (Would I choose a roast dinner here again? although not the worst I’ve had, I probably won’t have it there again)But it’s a clever way of getting Sunday punters in.Having been seduced by all the fabulous pies they had listed on wall, we decided to ask staff if we could take 3 pies back to our 3 elderly parents in London.I specifically ASKED one waitress “the cost for JUST taking away a pie, NOT the mash veg and plate it comes with especially due to the transportation issues”A few minutes later we got a receipt for £44.50 covering 3 pies that were in production already!! Let’s put it down to miscommunication? Difficult to get annoyed as through out our dining experience staff were polite courteous and helpful (Except at this point)Because they took the decision to bake 3 over priced pies regardless and then they brought them out in hot pie dishes to show us! Placed 3 cardboard takeaway boxes and 3 spoons in front of us and advised us to empty our respective pies in these containers. Unable to do much about it at this stage, we had to pay same price £15 for cooked pies that we had to decant ourselves to the amusement of other diners watching us tackle hot dishes into a takeaway box?At no point was it explained that the pies were being made to order, and that we would have to drag them into t/a boxes. I couldn’t have been any clearer when I asked!,Now that said the place is a lovely dining venue with a little bar going on, it’s not very pubby looking, too small, but cosy and they are hot on Covid compliance and cleanliness.Top marks!Staff wore masks and hand gel available etc. I even rate their brown paper bag wrapping of cutlery!! But to summarize, Please listen to what a customer has asked you!Your pies are big and lovely but overpriced. Not practical to take away once cooked too hot and product can deteriorate in quality when you have a 1 hour Plus drive, and taste of cardboard! Had you bothered to give us the option we would have left the takeaway but COME BACK with our parents and sat in for the whole meal.Just a suggestion but maybe run a trial with your pies, Review price, Freeze raw so people can cook at home maybe? Possibly missing a trick here?.Please understand this review is meant to be giving you constructive criticism.

The Crown & Tuns is favourite of ours and we missed it during lockdown. We're now venturing out to eating places again and have visited a few "Covid secure" establishments for food over the last month and this one had by far the best set up. Distancing is in place, fellow dinners seem sensible, contact details taken, staff wear masks, lots of cleaning going on and great attention to detail - your cutlery, napkins, salt & pepper etc even comes in a sealed paper bag with the date it was last handled on it. And the pies were excellent as usual. Yes, you will pay more than £13 for a pie but you are paying for a top notch pie (with lots of veg and lots of mash or chips and gravy all super tasty) cooked by a clearly excellent chef and you are paying for the great service you get from the team who ensure you're well looked after. It was a trip to pie heaven.

This was my first visit and it was brilliant but let down due to a couple of issues. The good - Food is fantastic! I had smokey bacon pie with mash, absolutely brilliant. good size, full of flavour, piping hot. The mash potato was also first class and I'd buy it by the bucket if I could afford to do so.Veg was basic yet cooked just the way Ilike it, steamed but not so that it falls apart on your fork.Waiting time was good, and staff well dressed, polite and with masks.decor was spot on, refurb during lockdown, it looked quality without going over the top.The bad - With pies starting at £15 and prices of beer on the wall, I didn't expect tap drinks to be nearly £4, for the price I might as well have had a beer as they're about the same price!. Gone are the days of designated driver having cheap drinks. Call me tight and yes I am to a degree but that didn't go down well with me.There was four of us three had veg and mash, the mash bowl was tiny, we ended up ordering another mash at extra cost, once finished we put the single mash bowl into the other one and it only just fit! there wasn't enough gap to with the edge of a knife. This seems stingy to me, we should have been given one of this each not a slightly bigger bowl between 3. £20+ per person, this isn't a pub chain selling 2 meals for £10.apart from the few little tweaks above, I still recommend this place and give a 4* star review because the food, staff, decor is as good as anything I've had. But being a 20+ stone guy and a stingy I have to mention it :)

Brilliant food, service and staff; prices are also reasonable; been here many times most recently January. Only downside is they don't let small children in most hours but this is understandable as it is a small restaurant.BBQ beef, smoked bacon pie with chips highly recommend! They also have a brilliant range of desserts and drinks

What a great find. Outstanding service from all staff and quick service even though it was very busy. I had the peppered steak in cream sauce pie and it was excellent. A huge menu to choose from and hopefully we’ll be back soon to work our way through it.

Great food, lovely atmosphere and great staff. Only downside was that i asked them to put a candle in my boyfriends dessert as it was his birthday and i wanted to surprise him, but it wasn't a problem.

What an amazing place!!! First of all the staff are outstanding. Whether you pop in for a quick drink or two or want to sit and eat, they are so welcoming and polite. Ambur and Vicky are just brilliant and will do what they can to assist. Cathy and Anton know what they are good at and excel in it...PIES!Always warm and welcoming to everyone, including dogs. There is a very good size outside space with a pool table and is the perfect summer place to chill and also a lovely open log fire indoors for those more chilly days. The food is exceptional and just gets better everytime.**Be warned you may not be hungry when you enter but the smell and look of those pies will make you wanna eat one **You won’t leave there feeling hungry, that’s for sure, I couldn’t recommend it more...

I was looking for a pub for lunch for us to stop on the way to a weekend away in Woodstock. Trawling through Trip Advisor there were so many to choose from - but the name of this pub caught my eye. And how happy were we that it did! If you like a pie - then look no further. I defy you to have a better choice of pies! My “party” had steak & kidney and the beef, mushroom & horseradish. Yum yum .Service was great, ambiance was fine, food was perfect !

We went as a group here, helpful staff, lovely pies and selection too. I would say the chips were bad, I would recommend home made chips rather than bland oven chips super market style chips. But overall a good visit.

Have been here several times and each time try a different pie! They have all been great! The Peppered Steak by was amazing, you also get a bowl of veg and a choice of chips or potatoes as well! It’s big! The puddings look great, but so far I’ve always been too full to try one! A must for any pie lover!

What a find... only by chance because the M40 was mayhem so we did a detour... and came across this wonderful place. If you like pies you’ll love this place... if you thought you didn’t like pies well this will change your perception. Huge pies (ours had puff pastry) with so many choices of filling you will have to spend a month here to get through them all. We had the steak, mushroom and brandy cream sauce... just yummy... oh and chips and vegetables which were plentiful. If you happen to be in this area or fancy a break from the motorway traffic then this place is well worth it! Enjoy!!

We visited the Crown and Tuns on Monday 21st December, we chose the location as its situated about halfway between where we live and where our daughter lives. This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The staff we met made us very welcome, the service at the bar and later at our table was very good. There was an excellent choice of food to suit all tastes and plenty of it. Certainly well recommended

We went mid week and it was a lovely place to visit, the staff were very professional and service was quick. The pies were outstanding, if a bit huge, the sides of vegetables and potatoes were great too if a bit small. Overall we would visit again, perfect for warming you up on a cold winter’s night

My family really enjoys going to this restaurant, and this is based on its wonderful service and great menu. We have a vegetarian in our family, who can always find something good on their menu. We have tried over half of the items on the menu and have never been disappointed. The wait staff is friendly and ensures that we have everything we need, especially Ambur and Ula. If you are passing through, you must stop and have a meal.

Visited here last night with friends. Food was delicious and the waitresses are so polite and professional. Only thing I would have liked to see was more vegetarian options. Could only see two which was Vegetable Masala which I had and a mushroom one. It would just be nice to have a bit more choice but not an issue just a suggestion. Cant wait to go back again. The pies are amazing and we didnt have to wait long for the food to come out. The lemon meringue was huge and tasted so good. Definitely worth a visit!!!

My wife and I went tonight on a whim for my birthday. Greeted immediately by the friendly staff and were quicky allocated a table. We ordered pies (the menu is almost entirely pies). I ordered a shortcrust pie with mash, my wife ordered a puff pastry pie with chips. When they arrived the pies were big! Seriously could have shared one between two as we are not massive eaters. We both however, devoured them both though as they were both really tasty. Afterwards I was so stuffed, I felt like I'd eaten my sofa!

Ett stort urval med engelska pajer. Trevlig personal. Många gäster, vi fick sista bordet vid lunch. Rejäla och goda pajer med potatismos och grönsaker i skålar brevid.

Greeted warmly on arrival, good beer but was disappointed with the pie. Mine had an odd taste. It was all pastry and not much filling. There was only 1 apple pie left so we ordered it but staff refused to provide an extra plate so we could share it! Poor value for money too.

Atmosphere is cosy and warming. The food was tasty, well presented piping hot and plentiful. All staff are friendly helpful and are genuine in the efforts to ensure that expectations are exceeded. Be prepared to wait for a table but the staff do everything they can to get a table for you and keep you informed of waiting time. Relax at the bar. Good that bookings are not permitted in the evening as this seems to help to get a good and fair flow of customers.

This is my second visit and it did not disappoint. With a large group and no option to book you do take the risk of a long wait, however the staff are very attentive and seem to have a very slick system in place. We got a table within 10 minutes. This also gave us plenty of time to choose, which is needed with such a large choice of pies!

This is our second visit to the Crown and Tunns. Service excellent, food excellent, choice of draught real ales limited to two choices from Hook Norton (both were a bit bland and low on the ABV scale).

Me and my partner came here a few months back and enjoyed this place SO much! It was one of the most delicious pies we had had in a while! The portion size of extra veg we received was generous, and the prices over all were very reasonable for the whole experience.

Went for the steak night. The two steaks we had were over done but do you know what they were super tasty and it really didn't matter. Now the thing that completely floored me was the wine £7.75 for a medium (NOT large) red wine was seriously a stupid amount of money to charge when the wine can be bought from Aldi for approx £5.50 for the bottle and the fact of the matter the wine with the meal (included) and the glass bought on it's own were rubbish. Cheap and Nasty.

Food was average.Waitress very good. Wouldn't recommend if you are Scottish as when we went to pay the barman said he couldn't understand us and walked away.

Lovely greeting by Robyn who seated and served us through the night, very helpful and pleasant! Food was great, we had a sharing platter and the pork & apple bon bon was my favourite but the chilli chicken and chorizo were equally as delicious. The skewers looked amazing, I had the seabass and the portion was really good with wonderful crispy potatoes, soft fish, prawns, tenderstem brocolli, peas and broad beans in a light delicate sauce. Dessert was a banoffee bun and this was epic, choux pastry filled with banana creme patisserie, served with crispy caramel topped banana, caramel sauce and refreshing ice cream. Excellent food and service, wonderful night and experience!
