We have visited twice recently for a lunchtime bite. Both times the staff, I think they may be the owners, were friendly and helpful. The croque monsieur was equal to anything we've had in France and I would have no hesitation in recommending The Crown for an enjoyable meal. Thank you!!

Food was excellent prices good but having the lights turned out at 9pm after we had finished our meal was a big let down. We were all going to have a drink afterwards to finish the evening off. We paid the bill and left as it was quite dark in there. Disappointed how a great evening ended, it clearly states you are open until 11pm

Super location right on village green with cricket pitch, tree fringed golf course and village beacon. Perfect for summer, and especially easy stopping point for cyclists given location of tables and Chiltern cycleway proximity. Lots of easy woodland walks in range.

Haven't been here for years. Quite busy for a mid week lunchtime , probably in part due to wallet saver food offer. Food was o k - vegetables seem virtually non existent judging from my general observation of other people's meals unless you count chips as vegetables. Long wait for food to arrive. Beer selection reasonable. All in all , nothing to excite me for a return.

Wonderful quintessential English country pub. Atmosphere is welcoming and cosy with a nice log fire in the winter. Families and dogs welcome (especially during the day/weekend). Great selection of wine and beer/ales and lovely coffees and hot chocolate! Food is excellent value for money and hits the spot! Nothing fancy but good quality pub grub. The specials are more refined and well worth trying! Lovely village location with country walks in abundance and friendly locals

Always a nice place to go, friendly, welcoming, good choice of beers. Its good to go to a pub that doesn't blare out music that you don't need anyway so you can have a conversation a joke and a laugh without having to shout or just not hearing what's being said. Not many of these traditional pubs around anymore unfortunately, us oldies haven't got anywhere to go and spend our money of an evening anymore. Welcome back to you The Crown looking forward to having a meal with you next week.

The Crown is not the pub it once was. We visited on a Friday night as a group and the majority of the time in the pub we were the only patrons. The vibe overall wasn’t great. We often noticed the two bar staff would rather just listen in to our conversation than busy themselves with some needed cleaning etc.. Tragic 80’s music was playing over the speakers which even the staff weren’t enjoying. The cask beer was old, flat and had no life to it. It was a local beer which has been hard to find in recent trips often only having Doombar on. For some reason the pub has 5 lagers(Fosters, Amstel, Estrella, Moretti, Heineken Zero) none of which are reasonably priced. Expect to be paying £6 for a pint of neck oil. Most of our group ordered food which was of average quality and didn’t line up to the gastropub price paid. It’s not awful by any stretch but there just isn’t the value for money that you once got. We wanted dessert but the kitchen had closed early without any notice. I don’t understand why the staff wouldn’t check with us if we wanted anything as it could have easily been a few (very needed) extra sales! It’s a real shame to see a once great pub fall into an empty, soulless, expensive shell of its former self.

While I understand that technology can fail, I'm not sure the best way to announce that both card machines have failed is to say 'If they haven't got cash, they can just go home' is the best way to announce this in earshot of the customers. Especially if you'd been waiting ~10 mins to get served. Poor show from the manager/landlord. All other staff friendly and fun evening at the beer festival otherwise!

Very disappointing. Food here used to be delicious before the pub changed hands now decidedly average and service was really not good. Waited an hour for food despite being first table booked for lunch then two diners who were gluten free had there roast dinner arrive without gravy, having specifically checked this was doable when the booked. Dry roast dinner is rubbish but so was the attitude of the lady who served the meal and got shirty because we pointed out that maybe they should have told them when they ordered?

So would like to give this pub more stars, and I would if it was just the food and the service I was judging it on. Lovely little pub with great food, but not enough custom. Really friendly staff and snug as a big in a rug. I don't know if the limited choice of good beer (Timmy Taylors Landlord and Tring Brewery Sidepocket) is the cause of the lack of trade, or the result of it. Anyways, I can highly recommend the steak and kidney pie, and the falafel burger is smashing too. Been there twice in the last couple of months because the food is good. I know the locals have been up in arms about the pub possibly being sold and turned into a nursery, but if they aren't in there supporting this lovely little pub, they'll only have themselves to blame. Shame.
