I came with a group of friends as I’ve been hearing good things locally about the new chef. We ordered the *locally shot* venison, a delicious innovative vegan dish (rare for this neck of the woods!), notorious bangers and mash, and the burger... all of which were so delicious and you could see that a lot of care went into it. The service was very charming, the pub itself warm and cozy. Notably also, we’re not a well-off bunch and found the meals very good value for money. Super excited to see this chef turn this pub around!

We hadn't eaten at the Crown for a while as it wasn't as good as other restaurants in the area, but wanted to try it after hearing new management had taken over. We're very glad we did as it's now brilliant - delicious high quality food from start to finish. The venison in particular was excellent. Service was warm and friendly too, and it's a lovely pub to eat in. We will definitely be back!

However service was pleasant although no mention was made of the specials which we spotted on the beam after we'd ordered. Food was good and fairly reasonable. But the wine prices.......😱

Great service from Jules and her team from the moment we arrived. Great menu - had trouble choosing food as there were so many tasty dishes catering to all tastes, from pub classics to fresh fish, on a huge and seasonal menu. Excellent desserts and coffee too, with a pleasant surprise when the bill arrived. Very good value with a personal touch. The perfect country pub for foodies.

With a nice large car park the Crown is one of two pubs in the village of Horsted Keynes handy for the nearby Bluebell Line. Just two real ales available on our visit, the ubiquitous Harveys Best which was well kept and one other fairly standard brew. The menu had been changed since we first booked and a couple of more interesting dishes had disappeared so I would describe it as pub grub rather than gastro. Portions were of good size, well cooked although I was told the duck was a little overdone and for the most part reasonably priced. One efficient lady doing practically everything , not cooking the food but all else seemingly, and although not busy at lunchtime starters took a while to appear. Large open plan bar and restaurant area, bricks, stone and wood but did not seem to possess much atmosphere, I can recall visiting prior to the lightning strike in 2003 when pubs were busier and it was bustling then,.

We seemed to be only people staying despite 4 bedrooms. Stairs to bedroom not clean. Bedroom still had used/dirty tissues in bedside drawer (I went down with Covid a couple of days after staying here) and empty pill packaging on top of the wardrobe. Whilst the view across the cricket field was pleasant it was not if you looked down to the yard below bedroom window ~ complete with rat traps! Dinner was nothing special with no specials on board and being the only people inside the pub. When we questioned what the 4 types of olive oil were that were served with the bread the waitress replies “She did not know”. No attempt to go away and find out. Ate in The Green Man 2nd night which we found better choice. Breakfast had no menus and only offered a fried breakfast which was average. No cereal, bread, croissants, jam, marmalade, fruit etc. It was almost as if the bare minimum was being offered. The pièce de resistance came when I queried why the room had not been serviced the second day. I was told they don’t service rooms anymore. The bin in the room had overflowed by this time and we had run out of milk and coffee etc…I asked was this mentioned on their website and was told it was. I have since thoroughly checked the website and can find no mention of this so far from happy about being lied to. The only time I have heard of this was during Covid. Not what it used to be and will not be back.

Fantastic little place, the staff are brilliant, friendly, helpful and professional, the room we stayed in was large, clean and tidy. The breakfast was good both mornings, our dinner for the two of us on the first night was good, there wasn't much choice of pudding though, the dinner for 11 on the second night was good, except for the fish the batter was a bit soggy. We would definitely stay here again.

We stopped at The Crown for a late Sunday lunch as we had heard such good things about it, however, we left disappointed. Several items were no longer available, but fair enough we were later diners. However when the food did arrive, it was lukewarm and continued to be even though it was returned to be heated up. The roast lamb was very fatty, Yorkshire pudding not properly cooked inside and the lamb pie crust was hard and dry. The staff advised that they had been very busy with a christening party and perhaps this lunchtime meal was a one off, but it was certainly not the high standard we were expecting.

We booked to stay in The Crown Inn as we were visiting and travelling on the Bluebell Line railway nearby. We arrived 2 1/2 hours before check in due to lighter than expected traffic on the M25, but before the Inn was even open the Landlord was outside and offered us to come in. We had a few things to do so decided we would come back when they were open at 12. When we arrived back at 12.30 (still 1 1/2 hrs before check in) we were welcomed in and shown to our room. Once we had settled in we went back downstairs for a drink before setting off for the Railway. The Landlord, Landlady and staff were all very welcoming as were the local patrons. We had a laugh before setting off. On our return we were again welcomed into the bar which by now was a bit busier with the local customers, but again we were looked after attentively. Our room (number 1) was perfect with a four poster bed and en-suite . Plenty of other facilities for tea, coffee etc. Only slight grouch about the room was the temperature was cold in the evening but during the night it was roasting (we could turn the radiator off but not up). In the morning we were given the choice of which breakfast to have. I had full English and my wife had the vegetarian option. Both were FANTASTIC!!! I would recommend anyone going to the area for the steam railway or any other reason to check out the Crown Inn. You will not regret it 5 BIG STARS Thanks to the Landlord, Landlady and staff Kev and Lyn

Although we had to wait slightly longer than normal for our food, just 2 main courses, the food that arrived was excellent quality and very good value for money. The staff were friendly and efficient. The menu choice was not vast, but we'd gone there with "roast" in mind only anyway, but the menu offered a greta deal of variety and defintely caters for all the varied diets in scope. We stayed in the rooms at the crown on Saturday night. It was expensive(£100). However we were made to feel throughout that we were an inconvenience and they would like us out as quickly as possible because they had the pub set up for the rugby match. I have never been made to feel so unwelcome anywhere. The room was very hot and the windows wouldn’t open. The kitchen fan was on all night which kept us awake though the night. The young woman in charge was very rude to my 2 year old granddaughter, which just compounded the effect of feeling unwelcome. The breakfast was well cooked but there was no choice at all especially for people who do not particularly want to consume large quantities of meat. No cereal, fruit or yogurt. It is very convenient for visiting family but we won’t be staying there again.

Went to the crown for lunch yesterday as I had heard it had a new chef and maybe new manager (not sure about that). We arrived and a rather grumpy waitress said `wait and we will get you seated`. We waited probably about 8 minutes and nothing happened, the restuarant was absolutley empty so we went and sat down. We ordered our lunch, I ordered a starter of salt and pepper squid. It arrived in a tiny little silver bucket and there were five pieces of squid the size of a 50p. I complained to the grumpy waitress and she said she would tell the chef. From then on no one came near us to ask if we wanted coffee etc. When we went to pay the bill (my squid was £7.50!) I asked if she had told the chef. Yes, she said that is the normal portion, no apology nothing. Off we went never to return!! Such a shame because I had high hopes!

Met up for a special celebration as this pub had been recommended. What a disappointment! Firstly no menus on arrival, relatively small choice of beers and wines, when the menus had been printed three items were crossed out and unavailable. Was really disappointed with the quality and quantity of food we could order, desert was not better, unavailability and a desert that three of us wanted had only one available. For £10 for ham egg and chips and over £5 for a desert this was overpriced. Won’t be going back!

Fantastic venue for a gathering of family and friends. We had been planning this 60th celebration for a while and the staff were so helpful in offering advice and taking on our suggestions too. Started with welcome drinks and chat while we enjoyed watching the cricket in the sunshine, and then there was a continuous flow of top-up drinks and fantastic finger food - the fish and chip boats were the biggest hit (hot and crispy), plus brisket or halloumi sliders, best sausage rolls ever plus lots more. Always a pub that you could rely on for a decent meal but after a recent visit this has definitely changed. Having been provided with an incorrect order for person with a food allergy, one meal was delayed for over 10 mins due to a “mix up”, 3 out of 4 steaks were either fatty, burnt on the outside making the meat inedible or not cooked as requested. We have not been to the Crown for a couple of years and it has changed hands since our last visit. We visited for a family meal on a quiet Thursday evening. Made to feel very welcome by the head waiter.

Went for Monday lunch with family and close friends and had an absolutely fantastic meal! The internal (and external) decor of the Inn is just beautiful and the staff were wonderful. Our group ordered a selection of starters, mains and desserts, and every plate of food was not only stunningly presented, but absolutely delicious! Can't recommend this place enough! Already looking forward to coming back, and would love to try the dinner menu (especially as there are 4 beautiful rooms above the restaurant available to book, so you can stay over and eat/drink to your hearts content)!

Went in for lunch on a week day. Venue was clean and cosy and staff exceptionally welcoming. Had the gnocchi starter, chicken ballotine main and salted caramel creme brûlée dessert. The food was delightful, prepared with care and with beautiful produce. The presentation was beautiful and portions generous. The price was perfectly reasonable for the quality and presentation! Would recommend and will definitely come back!

We both had the bangers and mash which were the best I've ever had. They were Cumberland sausages, and the mash was top notch. The bartender even made us a handmade cloudy lemonade since they had none bottled. Eat here.

Went for Sunday lunch. Roast Beef dinner very tasty and meat lovely and tender, but at £15.50, we felt was too expensive. The desserts were of very average quality, although they tasted ok and were more reasonably priced at £5.50. Overall, we felt it was too expensive to just visit "on a whim" and not "special" enough, to go for celebratory occasions.

Simon and Mark Dennis really know how to run a restaurant. Everything is done well from the website and online booking, the good customer service from the staff, through to the really excellent food. Simon is an excellent chef. The menu is original and varied with unusual and delicious food combinations. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

Eat here last night, the food was fantastic. The menu was varied with a rich selection of flavours promised on every plate. We were not disappointed, the food was well cooked, well presented and full of contrasting flavours. The wine menu is full and varied, although suggested wines or beers are on the food menu against every corse if you do not want a full bottle.

We chose to stay at this lovely pub for a short weekend break as we had a local wedding reception on the Saturday. Our room was spotlessly clean with a very nice en-suite bathroom and a comfortable bed. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening and had the rib of beef between us - it was huge, cooked exactly to our liking and served with large portions of chips and salad. Starters and mains were also brilliant. Breakfast on both days was again outstanding quality. It was unfortunate that we had to return home on the Sunday morning as the Sunday roast also looked very inviting. We have decided to return again in the near future so that we can experience the food again (and try the Sunday roast). Our big thanks to Niall, Imogen, Lisa and all the other staff for making us so welcome.

Took 3 generations of the family for a Saturday lunch. The restaurant is very comfortable and plenty of space between tables. The choice of food was wide - we had starters and main and everyone commented on how good their food was. Add to that friendly and attentive staff and we will definitely be coming back here when we visit the area again.

Came down to Gatwick for a flight, wanted somewhere "local" but not filled with other potential "passengers". Trip Advisor offered us the Crown Inn as "local" offering good English pub food to dine on. Car park is a bit hard to negotiate where is best to park as is a series of sections! Hopefully a fresh coat of tarmac and some painted lines for the spaces and some hashed areas to allow others to consider why a vehicle there might spoil it for others will fix this - as and when profits allow ?.. Pub itself is very nicely done, lots of different interlinked spaces so as to be spacious whilst also cosy. We wanted pub grub rather than A la carte, and so we ate outside (and glad we did!) a lovely evening and the food was great - served in big garden area that again has been landscaped to consider what different groups of guests might want? Immaginative fare, served with a smile. The five of us enjoyed what we had and not too much, nor too little ! Will be visiting again - hopefully soon - Thanks and well done

We took our two boys to The Crown for dinner and sat in the garden overlooking the cricket field. We chose from the early bird menu which was extremely good value and the food was delicious. Good selection of wines and beers. Lovely service and overall its a really fantastic pub. We just wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!

We stayed 2 nights bed and breakfast here and it was excellent. The room was large and the bed very comfy. The en-suite shower was large and well equipped and spotlessly clean. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food and drinks were very good and the service excellent. Breakfast was a good choice of full English or other variations, the full English was great. I'd definitely recommend this pub for staying in the area - the Bluebell Steam Railway is just down the road.

Overall staff are very nice, beer is good, food portions are embarrassingly small, this was £18, the staff said they have used cod rather then haddock that’s why it’s smaller and thicker, it was tiny…. I’ve actually really enjoyed coming here over the last few years but probably won’t eat here again.

Stopped for a sandwich and drink whilst on a shopping trip. Polite friendly staff clean and tidy. Very popular as very busy small cafe

Amazing traditional tearooms with truly homemade food, there was a freshly baked crumble cooling on the side, wide range of delicious looking cakes but after the generous fish pie I had no space to sample. Loved it, perfect for a pre walk lunch!

A lovely place but unfortunately they forgot all three side orders which was disappointing. They did refund and apologise.

I have eaten breakfast here a few times now. The full English is always spot on! Good portions, cooked perfectly and always served with a smile! Will be back again soon.
