Excellent front of house. We had pub classics - ham, egg and chips, burgers etc. All decent and kids enjoyed it. Reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere, log fire. Exactly what you want from a pub.

It's OK, staff were friendly and food was adequate. Needed a steak knife for the roast beef. Harveys was good and the potatoes were excellent but overall missed the mark. Still worth a visit but not regular.

I'll start with some good things: The staff was friendly and the overall atmosphere was nice, they have some board games which are great fun for the kids and adults. That's about it. I honestly don't understand how this pub has such a high rating. Maybe because people only have a drink there and then leave 5*. Nothing we tried tasted or looked better than 3*. Pretty much the only thing on the kids menu that was available was fish fingers and chips. They even ran out of pasta. Adults menu didn't have much to offer either. We ended up having a pie, burgers and scampi, and it just wasn't great. No one enjoyed their meals and I had an upset stomach all evening after that burger.

The landlord of the place just changed 3 weeks ago. It was a very nice atmosphere in there. I'm traveling by bicycle, got wet in the rain and could dry my clothes on the fireplace. Very nice owner and customers, i even got offered to pitch my tent in the garden. Real authentic English Pub experience, I recommend a visit for locals and travellers/tourists as well!

A lovely pub with lots of knick-knacks to look at. Fantastic hosts, who could not have done any more to make us feel welcome. There were 8 (7adults and a 2 year old) of us that decided to pop in as we were looking for somewhere to go for a meal after pumpkin picking. Excellent food that was freshly made to order. Great sized portions. Thanks for helping us enjoy a lovely afternoon.

My wife and I met old friends here for lunch yesterday. We can't praise the welcome we received and the food too highly. The lamb shank and chicken and leek pie were excellent as were the desserts. Gemma and her team ensured that this was a very special and memorable occasion. We will definitely be coming back.

Went to this pub a few times during our 2 week holiday in Turners Hill August 2023. The pub is “undone’ & full of charm & character. They only serve food for lunch which is generous & delicious and includes that rare breed, a sandwich menu. Check out the beef pie as well. The pub is frequented by many local characters & hosted by the low key & ever helpful landlord Mick.

Stopped here for a pint and sandwich lunch. All great and served with a smile. The pub itself is an ancient pile which hasn’t been tarted up too much so it retains a lot of character. Menu is simple and straightforward which is a nice change from the same old everywhere else.

It is good to see a nice selection of sandwiches on the lunch time menu and open on a Monday. As so many pubs have removed sandwiches from there menu's. The beer and food was very good . We sat in the large side garden on a hot day . We will back for more.

It is not often that we find a venue to take a Walking Group that ticks all of the 'boxes' when it comes to the following combination : Making our arrangements, taking advance food orders, billing, welcome, service, taste/quality our payment. This pub scored VERY highly on all counts ~ seamless. Big grins all round!

I used to drink in this pub many moons ago but hadn't been there for many years. It is a 30 minutes cross country walk from home so my wife and I decided to walk there with our young grandchildren. It was worth the walk. Great food and drink in a nice rural location. Choice of gardens or dining room to eat. Kids enjoyed playing in the garden. Enjoyed our walk so much, we went back a week later and plan to make it a regular place for lunch, with or without the grandchildren.

We come here on average 6-8 times a year, more in a good year. It's a round 2 hour trip. Clearly worth it. Until now. Beer: good, well-kept Harveys. Food: fair. Landlord: relaxed, amicable, dry-humour...typical. And then we have the Landlady....Ah yes, the landlady. How to undo years of good work and a repeat-customer in one easy hit of mistaken incivility. If you're going to come here...well, make sure she's having a 'good hair day' otherwise your pint of milk-stout will curdle in one glance. Utterly reprehensible customer management. Shame.

We don't live far from the Red Lion...just 5 mins down the road. We tried the Duke's Head but it was just a chain themed pub with overpriced food and drink and a bizarre alpine themed interior...and hit n miss staff. Found this little place and we love it. Not pretentious just genuine and not a chain...worth the extra taxi money!!!!

We been to this restaurant several times with and without kids and have not impressed with the food or service like other good restaurants I have visited in Sussex. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but nothing really special to keep it in your memory. And we have tried almost 75% of the menu dishes from stater to dessert. Services most of the time was slow, even for payment to take. Although the waiter/ waitress was very polite. Restaurant atmosphere from busy lunch or dinner still feel like something missing in it. After several visited I would not want to have my meal there again. Try it if you like and try other good restaurants in the area and you would understand what I mean. I would say it was right on the value for money but there are restaurants that makes your money worth to try for.

The Red Lion is an old fashioned pub on a street near the centre of the village of Turner's Hill, which is close to, but not the same as, Crawley Down. It's a pub of the type that are rapidly vanishing and needs appreciative custom to stop this happening here. It's run and staffed by a landlord, has several regulars in the bar and has recently undergone a big refurbishment to it's restaurant/bistro area. It stocks excellent and well kept beers (including mild which is a vanishing brew) and bar snacks and there are dominoes and cards to be borrowed. They have an open fire in winter and it's not been modernised to remove its soul!

Amazing traditional tearooms with truly homemade food, there was a freshly baked crumble cooling on the side, wide range of delicious looking cakes but after the generous fish pie I had no space to sample. Loved it, perfect for a pre walk lunch!

Overall staff are very nice, beer is good, food portions are embarrassingly small, this was £18, the staff said they have used cod rather then haddock that’s why it’s smaller and thicker, it was tiny…. I’ve actually really enjoyed coming here over the last few years but probably won’t eat here again.

Amazing pizza ! There is a good range of pizza options on the menu. We have eaten here several times and have always been satisfied. Must book ahead if you want a Friday or Saturday night table. I much prefer eating in , than taking away as due to the style of pizza , it's better eaten as soon as possible.
