Recently moved to the area and tried the nearest pub...big mistake. From the outside its disgusting, never seen bieng cleaned. As for the inside really not much better, and certainly don't take your coat of, it's so cols even the regulars appoligised. Service was quite good until the older man came on the bar, a little rude. Might try again in warmer weather

Within 2 minutes of being in the place I got an at home feeling and it was like I was a regular even though it was a first time visit The bar staff were really friendly and the regular customers were just as friendly also The purpose of our visit was to try the food as it was highly recommended by various friends. I had a cheese and onion pie and my wife had a Beef dinner , we also ordered 2 children’s meals one nuggets and one sausage When all the meals arrived I was really impressed as it was homemade pub grub at its finest and all at a very reasonable price So if your looking for a nice pub lunch or tea don’t look any further it’s one of them places you will so happy that you’ve found it and always go back

Called in off the cuff to see if they do food ? only the barmaid in and us, no smells or menu's on display to indicate food being served so we sat outside and had our drinks weighing the place up. We will give it another go at a later date and hopefully there will be some kind of atmosphere and maybe food.

Arrived too early as the Inn did not open till 2pm on Friday, but were welcomed by the lovely staff, who offered a good choice of food and hospitality. The place is full of character and the food freshly cooked and delicious (chips to die for!!) and yummy puddings. Well worth a visit.

What a cracker of a pub. The food served is really great value, the staff are all long serving and friendly. The Crown has a fabulous Gin Menu with a great choice of tonics, served with fresh fruit. Very refreshing. Food is served from 5pm during the week except Tuesdays. Weekends from 12 noon. Please be aware last orders for food is 7:30pm. Curry half and half is my favourite. They have a very good Facebook Page which keeps all followers up to date with forthcoming events and offers.. I keep returning again and again and again.

I visited The Crown after seeing a couple of good reviews on TA , and I would like to start this one by thanking those reviewers for pointing me in the direction of the Crown. I was aware before I visited that this was a village pub which served meals and did not therefore expect subtle lighting, chintz and ambient music! What you get is a wood panelled main bar with tables of various sizes set around the room, the feeling is of warmth, there is a real fire in the grate, and age. Menus are placed on the tables and ordering is done at the bar, though the food is brought to you at table. The menu is quite extensive with starters, mains and desserts, but also a good range of light bites and snacks are on offer. As it was a Sunday I chose the soup (cream of mushroom and asparagus), the roast lamb dinner and finished with ginger sponge and custard. The soup was served in a china soup bowl, in the shape of a small tureen, and was accompanied by a warm bread roll and a pat of butter. I would note here that the butter was at room temperature and easily spreadable and not (as in many places) served straight from the fridge necessitating hacking it into small pieces or trying to soften it using the warmed soup spoon! This is a big plus point in my opinion. The soup itself was excellent. The roast lamb dinner turned out to be a full lamb shank beautifully cooked in a light gravy, (a gravy boat was also supplied), accompanied by seasonal vegetables , two types of potatoes; mash and roast , and two small Yorkshire puddings, mint sauce was also provided. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the whole was everything I had hoped for when i ordered it. Finally the dessert, ginger sponge and custard, but also with a ginger sauce , was the perfect end to an outstanding meal. Simple, well cooked, served at the right speed (this is NOT fast food) . All in all a great experience, I will most certainly be going back. In conclusion.... If you want "posh" this isn't for you, BUT if you want great food,a wide ranging menu, lovely staff and a price that won't make you wince, then there can't be many better than the Crown

Been going to this place over the last 20 years and still love it. As best man to 2 of my good pals they both included this place on the itinary. i would call it my local but when we do go out in Bacup this cosy hole is always on the plan. Great atmosphere and friendly welcome. A somewhat rare occurrence in most watering establishments these days. I will also note as a gay man my partner and I have never, never had any problem in this pub. Credit to you all.

I had heard very good reports of The Crown so, as I am periodically in Backup, decided to give it a try. It took me about 3 attempts to get there (not too much of a problem as I was passing by) when they were open for food so I would suggest a 'phone call to check before going but you will definitely be OK at weekends. My perseverance was rewarded with an excellent meal, I chose the rag pudding (a local delicacy from a local butcher) having shared a starter platter with my son who had their burger of which he fully approved and he's a bit of an expert. Didn't manage a pudding as we had both been well sated already. We will definitely be going again in the not-to-distant future. In addition to the quality and portion size I am happy to confirm that the pricing is very fair.Highly recommended

I come here a lot and have done for years, and I always will! The staff have been great and the grub is good however for a friendly pub like this, it'll be 5 stars if it was dog friendly! There used to be dogs in their from previous owners but for this type of pub, there would be nothing better than going for a long walk and taking your well behave dog by your side to sit by the fire with a pint! I once asked a woman there if it is dog friendly, however she wasn't so friendly about it! I havnt seen her since however she could of been nicer about it. On the plus side there is a dog bowl outside, they just need to keep an eye on it! Other than that, highly recommended! I must say as a dog owner I travel and research dog friendly pubs, and Iam not bothered if it's £2 a pint or £4 a pint, i go where I can take my dog! The crown is defiantly missing the passing trade from dog walkers etc.

We first visited around Christmas 2014 and thanks to Ste the chef ( who personally came over to check everything was to our satisfaction) we all enjoyed a delicious meal. However our second visit last week was a bitter disappointment, dirty tables, several items not available, long waiting times and a poor quality meal, we could not believe this was the same pub we visited and enjoyed over Christmas. Sorry but we wont be going again.

I first went in this pub about 16 years ago when the late and sadly missed Trevor ran it as a very tight ship. In all the years I went there I never saw any trouble as potential troublemakers were just not allowed in. On top of that it had great beer, good food and a really nice atmosphere. It's not as good as it used to be and the food has definitely taken a turn for the worse lately - last time we visited and ordered sandwiches we were told they had run out of chips and butter...staples any establishment would keep a stock of.Whilst the Crown isn't as good as it used to be it's still probably the best pub in Bacup. The Sam Smiths Old Brewery bitter is a fantastic pint and I still consider it my local. But needs to lose that terrible Alien 'statue' on top of the entrance.

We decided to experience the crown inn after reading some remarkable reviews and seeing it had a 5* food rating. upon experiencing it for myself, the crown inn definitely lived up to its name. The customer service is one of the highest standard I have ever received, the menu had a good range of choice (everything cooked from scratch) and amazing value for money. I can definitely say I have had a great evening at the crown inn and will be returning shortly with my daughter as it also seems very child friendly early on in the evening. Been here a few times over the years and it's a lovely cosy eating establishment, food today was good but a little let down by service from the staff, they were friendly enough but nearly 10 mins after been taken to our table not one person asked us if wanting drinks ,it's basic customer service . We had to ask for them to come over and once served with food not once came over and asked if everything ok. 4 staff chatting away with each other. Just needs tinkering with the staff that's all. Also don't like the idea they put a service charge on your bill without asking you ,not many customers will see this on the bill, it's quite sneaky to be honest.

I love Christmas dinner. The trimmings and the memories of growing up with the tradition. I have had a few Christmas dinners in the area and this was the best. They use real turkey, not the processed slices but the real bird. Moist with all the trimmings. The trifle and the mince pie with cream also went down very well. So sorry they do not serve it all year or as a special some times. .Price was great .
