We stopped by as walk-in customers without booking and found a table in the bar as we had our swissie with us. There was ample room for him lay down beside our table and bowls of water for dogs were freely available around the bar, garden and front area of the premises. We both had a pork belly Sunday roast that was ordered at the bar, along with drinks and was told there would be a 30min wait for food. The food arrived before the 30min expected, and our only issue was the cold plates, but the food on them was hot and delicious. A few roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud and seasonal veg completed the meal. The portion was fair for the price and was well cooked and presented. We were so pleased we returned for a breakfast later in the week - review to follow

Average food at an above average price. My Wife's chicken schnitzel was burnt on one side and black on the other...whilst it was changed without question why would the kitchen send it out like that?

Really recommend this place. Last minute dinner booking, with no issues for a table of six. Lovely place and a good menu. The food was really nice and came promptly. What made this place though was the service from the two ladies who waited on our table. They were extremely kind and friendly and I'd go as far as saying they probably provided the best service I've ever experienced anywhere.

Three of us came to this undoubtedly beautiful venue to celebrate a birthday. The service, at best, could be described as ‘glacial’ and we frequently had to try to catch staff as they drifted past. Two of us the Greek salad as a starter: quite tasty but vastly overpriced for nearly £10. However, the nachos were shockingly poor. An upended mass of soggy crisps welded into mass by ( I suspect) squeezy cheese. It was so inedible, we had to send it back, having had to go in search of service. Such a disappointment- I doubt we will be back.

Four of us enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Crown this weekend. The restaurant was busy (booking advisable) and lively creating a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly, courteous and very attentive. I had an excellent fish and chips while others in our group enjoyed the rack of ribs (huge serving), the potato skins and the chicken skewers. There was a good choice of desserts (including a selection of small servings that didn’t over face ). These were beautifully presented. Both the wines we bought were inexpensive and again good quality. At around £60 per couple including wine we all agreed that the lunch was great value for money. Looking forward to returning soon.

We dropped in for lunch after visiting Framlingham Castle. It's a rambling old building and most tables in the restaurant area were already taken so we ended up in the bar which was quite cosy. I had a couple of pints of very good Timothy Taylors, my wife had some not so great Sauvignon blanc. The lunch menu wasn't anything special but the home made steak pie with mash that I chose was very good (and it did look home made). The rack of ribs were also good with a lovely sauce and the ribs just fell apart, as they should, however it was an enormous portion and came with a pile of fairly average fries. The staff were really helpful and kept checking we were OK with everything.

I held my 30th birthday party at The Crown in the function room. I couldn't fault Gabriela whilst we were planning the evening or her attentiveness during the evening. It was everything I could have wanted, she made it look beautiful. The food was brilliant - I had a buffet and only heard good things about it. The barmen were good and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this venue for any kind of party!

Visited Framingham for the day with family and went to the pub for lunch. The building itself is lovely. However our lunch took almost two and a half hours. Placing the order took an age but then nearly 1 1/2 hours to actually get the simplest of orders. We only ordered a sandwich, a panini and two pork rolls. It took up most of our afternoon. Please note:- £9.50 for a commercial sliced loaf, grated Cheddar cheese & chutney sandwich with a few salad bag leaves is insanely expensive. Artisan bread or a speciality cheese maybe but this is a rip off. I don’t expect to pay that for a sandwich that’s no different in quality from my own work pack lunch. Never again.

We were in Framlingham for a funeral, and had travelled a long way. An early check in was £10, which were happy to pay. Our time of arrival was 12am, which we had given. When we arrived at 12am there was no one to check us in, despite two staff near reception. Both said it had to be the manager, who took ages to arrive. Wanting to freshen up and change, and seeing time ticking away was very frustrating. The room was large with a vestibule, and large bathroom. The bed was very uncomfortable, and in need of a new mattress. The young man in the restaurant in the evening was very pleasant and efficient, or this would have been two stars. The food when it arrived was good, but it took ages, even though it was quiet.

I used to love eat at The Crown in Fram but suspect it is under new management. This is the second time I have been and the food was disappointing, Tonight the restaurant was cold and the menu choice more like pub grub from the 1980's then a hotel restaurant. My family and I where looking forward to a good meal if we wanted burgers, macaroni cheese and chilli con carne or chips with everything we would have stayed at home. One of the treats of going to a restaurant should be that you cannot decide what to eat because the choice is so good not looking at the menu and thinking what can I eat. Finally chose the Hunters Chicken which was clearly overcooked, will be a long time before I eat there again.

This hotel is old and quite charming but passed its prime. Breakfast and dinner were both good and the restaurant was fine. The rooms are VERY tired and not serviced well. Initial impressions of the room were good but on closer inspection the desk legs were thick with dust along with the tissue holder and cotton wool holder on the dressing table. The bathroom had no extractor fan and the bathroom floor turned into a skid patch due to the condensation!! There was also mould around the bath and it had been poorly repaired in places. The reception desk was not manned regularly and even when you rang the bell you had to wait several minutes which was quite irritating. Overall average at best.

Came as a group of 6 for Sunday lunch. We were told beef was on the menu, 4 of us ordered roast beef, one gammon and one pork chop special. After around 10 minutes the waiter returned and told us there was only 3 beef left and apologised. I agreed to have the duck special instead. Another 5 minutes, the waiter returns and says that in fact there is no beef at all, so everyone had to change their order again. Not sure how this can happen other than poor kitchen management. When the food eventually arrived there were issues with most of it. Both the duck breasts ordered were overcooked with not even the slightest hint of pink. The gammon was luke warm at best and the pork chop came with a random selection of roast veg rather than what was stated on the menu. We decided to be pragmatic and complained about the duck but not the other bits. Duck was taken away and then 10-15 mins later replacements arrived. Both of them were undercooked this time, one of them in particular was raw pretty much all the way through. On bringing this up again the manager (we assume) came over and tried to explain that there is a tight '2 minute window' for cooking duck breasts properly. This was missing the point, duck can be tricky to cook but don't put it on the menu unless the chef can cook it properly. To then say 'it's difficult to cook' and offer no further apology or offer to take it off the bill is poor customer service. None of the meals were cheap and we expected a slightly higher standard on that basis.

Had a truly tasty roast. Just like homemade. Waiting staff were a bit confused but would definitely go back.

Everything was perfect...lovely light salad with delicious fries, followed by an awesome crumble. Usually when you mention you want to share a desert the best you can hope for is an extra spoon but the Crown went a step further and brought out a desert that they’d not only split in two but presented really nicely too! It’s the little touches like this that make somewhere special and make you go back

We visited the Crown for coffee, evening drinks, lunch and dinner during our week in Framlingham. We found the surroundings both indoors and outside lovely and the service polite and quick. The food and drink was very nice and we will definitely go back next time we are in the area.

We went a couple of times, once for a drink, once for lunch. We only had sandwiches but they were very nice and fresh and the chips served were lovely, hot and crispy. The courtyard was very nice and comfortable to sit out and enjoy the late summer sunshine. Service and staff were friendly and efficient.

I came here for a family visit, but I'm afraid the food was very poor. I had calamari which was covered in a very thick heavy batter almost inedible, a tempura batter would of suited much better. Followed by the chicken special again very poor & tiny breast,With no salad or veg.The other members of the family were also very disappointed. Shame really as it could be lovely. My mom had the minute steak which was like shoe leather. At no point were we asked if 'everything was OK'

My wife and I decided to go here on a Sunday, just prior to a visit to Framlington castle.

Disappointed. Went in for lunch with children while visiting the castle. Ordered seafood risotto from the specials menu, which was £13.95. The portion was what would have been expected as a starter. When I asked why there weren't tiger prawns on top as advertised, I was told that were WERE - they were just pre-shelled. The overpriced meal was compounded by a poor customer service ethos (it would have taken very little on their part to correct the situation).

One afternoon we walked around Framlingham and found the rear entrance to the Crown. The Court Yard was nicely set with tables chairs and umbrellas amongst some lovely plants. We ordered a coffee and a cold drink which was served by a very pleasant young man. This Hotel has retained a lot of its old character and charm, situated right in the heart of Framlingham, so much so we returned the following morning and this time we sat on the pavement area and watched the would go by. We struck up a pleasant conversation with one of the residents of the town which helped pass the morning. Would recommend this place and the town which has a lovely assortment of local traders doing well.

Its a pity, because the hotel situated walking distance from Framlingham Castle and looks really nice. Looking at the menu, it was quite obvious that is rather pub food than actual restaurant, but the actual food still shocked us. My partner had calamari- where they served six pieces on a tiny plate (for 6 pound), I had ham hock terrine which wasnt really a terrine... it was some ham hock pressed together with pea...was quite dry, the best part of the meal was the toast as it was nice oily and salty. The mains were again a disappointment... the burget is I believe the worst burger I ever had in England so far: dry, no taste, no fat in the actual meat, only the little bit of cheese improved on it, I finished it off because I was really hungry (we havent eaten anything all day), but it wasnt nice at all. My partner had the roast chicken: they served a huge chicken, it was really too much, meanwhile the cabbage was again tasting awful... like they cooked the red cabbage in honey.... overly sweet. The service was kind, however there were only one young guy serving the tables, with little knowledge on the menu, and he disappeared for 15 minutes after our starter... so we get our second quite late, and even after we were thinking to walk out as no member of the staff around, neither ours, nor other tables were cleared down. We sat with a plate with 4-5-6 flies on it already.... wasnt nice. They havent even asked whether we would like a drink with our meal.

A proper pub, good friendly service , well kept beers with an ever changing guest ale, no food just good conversation in a pleasant environment. If you long for a traditional well run pub serving good ale the Old Mariners is for you.

Tried to arrange our engagement party here and is the worst communication and service from the event organiser I have ever received. Constantly ignored even when it got to the point of going into the sea you to speak to the lady who organises. Had to keep chasing for responses and in the end was just ignored and never got back to. Is a real shame as we really liked the cafe there but will not be returning after the way we were treated.
