Great spot right next to Lime Street station to enjoy a few pints. It’s a nice historic building with a great vibe and very attentive staff. I would definitely recommend popping in for a drink or three whether you’ve been out shopping, or just hopped off the train after a long journey. Very central with great shopping opportunities nearby.

The Crown dates back to 1905 and have a lovely old interior. Superb detailed ceiling and bar. They offer a very good selection of bitters. I had the Black Sheep. It was £4.40. Decent pint. One of the staff was miserable. I store by the bar a few yards away and she could see me but would t come over as it was pretty clear I wanted to order! The other, younger lady with curly hair was very nice and helpful. Had a smile and happy to talk which is what you want when you go to a pub. A pleasant atmosphere in there. It looked like there were quite a few older regulars in there. Plus some tourists came in who were there for the football.

What an amazing pub, even if you discount the stunning architecture the Crown is a great place to have a drink or two. The drinks are very reasonable and that is without taking in its central location. I didn't have anything to eat so I couldn't comment on the food, but I have no doubt that it is up to a good standard. The staff were very friendly and not afraid to have a chat. The range of drinks on offer are wide ranging and across the price scale. Even if you just go for the architecture you will not be disappointed.

I selected The Crown Hotel at random since it was the nearest place to Lime Street Station. The decor is attractive, the bar staff friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. There was a good selection of beer and spirits. I select a pint of Red Dwarf and a Laphroaig. There was a wide choice of reasonably priced bar meals. I opted for 5 mixed tapas. When they arrived I realised I had bitten off more than I could chew literally. They were all moreish and delicious. I shared my bounty with a group of friendly pensioners on the next table. Naturally, one of them told me he had been to school with Paul McCartney! I can wholeheartedly recommend a visit to The Crown Hotel.

Penny Lane isn’t just a street—it’s a Beatles-powered time machine dressed up as a perfectly ordinary Liverpool road. But trust me, once you’re there, it’s anything but ordinary. You’ll find yourself humming “Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes” within 30 seconds of arrival. And yes, the famous sign is still the most-photographed wall ornament in Merseyside—ideal for your next Instagram moment or spontaneous album cover shoot. Walk along and the lyrics come to life. “The barber shaves another customer”—yep, there’s still a barber shop. Whether he remembers the 60s or not is anyone’s guess, but he’s definitely riding the wave. You half-expect a banker in a motorcar to drive past, “the little children laughing behind his back.” There’s also a fab café nearby where you can sip coffee and pretend you’re in the next Beatles biopic. If you’re lucky, you might catch a bus “shelter in the middle of the roundabout,” although traffic planning has modernized slightly since 1967. Penny Lane is both sacred ground for Beatles fans and a surprisingly lovely place to just... be. It’s a quirky blend of music, memory, and real life still ticking along. Come for the nostalgia, stay for the vibes. As the song says, “There beneath the blue suburban skies… Penny Lane.”
