Nice venue, nice staff and good service, but dire Sunday lunch (two Sundays in a row: we'd thought the first must be a one-off bad experience); and given that's what we were there for, we won't be back: chewy slices of beef; very fatty, gristley and 20% inedible lamb; roast potatoes completely uncrisp, big and flabby; undercooked parsnips; Yorkshire pudding dried-out to a crisp; leaving ok carrots and gravy!

Very nice pub. Very wide selection of food to choose from on the menu. I opted for the Roast Turkey with all the trimmings but there were so many other options I could have gone for, so I will definitely be back again. The service was very good, as were the friendly & helpful staff.

Disappointing food experience - Caesar salad was underwhelming; if I hadn’t ordered the chicken as an extra it would have been unacceptable as tiny amounts of anchovies, Parmesan and dressing. My friend’s vegan burger was just about ok but onion rings were soggy. Staff were efficient and friendly and wonderful that dogs are so welcome.

We had just returned from a West End show, we'd had 2 drinks apiece over 4 hours. My husband went up to order us drinks but was accused of being drunk and was refused service. My husband and I were visiting from Ireland and had up to this point experienced nothing but wonderful manners and service. This place is best avoided if visiting from "across the pond"!

Popped in for a drink on Christmas Day lunch. The interior is charming, very dog-friendly as is the landlady. She made a fuss of my dog and fetched her half a chopped saveloy as a treat! If I lived in the area I would definitely use this as my local. Nice place, well-kept beers and a very characterful landlady.

Had the absolute best experience at Crown & Anchor for a Christmas Roast with friends. We were a large group of 20, so I was super impressed with how quickly the food came out and we all got our food at pretty much the same time. I had the veggie mushroom, spinach and tofu Wellington with cauliflower cheese on the side which was so delicious. All the roasts came with plentiful trimmings - roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots, red cabbage, sprouts and a Yorkshire pud. Oh and plentiful gravy too! Everyone commented on how filling and delicious their meal was. The staff had also very kindly added some extra special touches such as crackers on the table, to make our experience all the more Christmassy. The pub has such a relaxed and cosy atmosphere and all the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Big shout out to Justine who helped me with the booking and the pre-orders of our group on the day. Would highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a nice and relaxed meal with friends or family, with tasty food and fantastic service.

Nice pub and they were very helpful with moving us to a bigger table so that we were more comfortable. Food is decent but a bit overpriced when asking for extra items (eg extra cheese).

Great little pub on the harbour staff are really frendy we always vist when in Brixham so thanks to you all at the crown you deserve a 6 star in our opinion

This used to be a great place for a Sunday roast, one of the best in London. We went today and it’s clearly a completely different kitchen. Both ordered roast beef. Sadly the beef was over cooked and the vegetables horribly undercooked to the point they were inedible. The gravy was like water, the roast potatoes pale, anaemic and hard. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy. The cauliflower cheese was plain odd and half full of uncooked cabbage. And no seasoning on anything. Such a shame as it used to be brilliant. That said the lady that served us was lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. No signs of any agree management! Just a shame about the food today but, as a local, will give it another go perhaps.

The staff on my last visit were rude and one of them, the manager, incredibly confrontational. Not the first time I’ve experienced bad abusive service here but it will be the last. Other reviewers with recent poor experience are sadly right. Keep away and put this miserable place out of business.. let the manager take his anger about his small endowment somewhere else. Such a shame as pre lockdown the previous crew were very pleasant indeed…

Huge delicious roasts, great value and so tasty!!!

I've eaten Sunday lunch here twice in the last 2 months. On one occasion I had the nut roast and on the second I had the lamb Sunday lunch. Neither meal was good quality or enjoyable. Here's why.... The nut roast was dry. The lamb is lamb shoulder and 50% of it was fat. The veg consisted of 3 under done potatoes (you couldn't call them roasted as no crispness to them), 3 slices of carrot (OK but inadequate), a massive amount of cabbage and brocoli. No parsnip. Gluten free gravy was acceptable but not tasty. The experience of my co-diners was similar and we left dissatisfied with the food. It gets 2 stars for environment but zero for food

Great food, really good value for money and lovely service. Have been a regular and recommend this place for everyone. They have lots of choices for vegans too.

Best Sunday dinner around, came around two years ago to try out the Sunday dinners and so glad we returned. The service is still brilliant and value for London is unbeatable also, we can't wait to return soon :-)

We were there during the pub quiz so it was noisy and full. Excellent beer in what felt like a pre-Covid atmosphere - a nice evening!

Great food, great gravy, great pints, great atmosphere!!

This took place on 10th October 4:30pm. We had been waiting to be served for a while so my friend politely tapped a member of staff on the shoulder and asked if we could please place a drinks order. The staff member (a tall, young man wearing a red hoody), turned around and said: "Don't you touch me again, remember you're in Brixton. I'm serving that table first, then going back to the bar. If you're lucky then I might serve you." Incredibly rude, hostile and sounded a lot like a threat. My friend felt very awkward and embarrassed. I walked up to the bar to ask once again to be served and to complain to the staff member about his behaviour. I was told aggressively to sit back down and mocked for suggesting that my friend had been intimidated. To my surprise, the manager then walked round from the bar and confronted me, demanding I sit down. Not wishing to cause a scene, I returned to my table as both members of staff were becoming confrontational. Awful customer service from the first staff member in particular. Making threats and being so hostile in a family pub is appalling. For the rest of our time there we were served by helpful and attentive staff.

really great pub to eat and drink lovely staff very friendly and helpful. they did not have their normal menu because of concerns they may have to shut down but the alternatives was good and great value. great range of beer and not expensive wine list i had booked a table which was there waiting for me was a be a bit noisy but it was a Friday night and people out to enjoy themselves why not

The service was bad, the food was salty and tasteless and over-priced, they brought us what we didn’t order, it took ages to arrive, the place was empty but they seated some rowdy bunch next to us and they didn’t serve warm drinks. The only reason why it’s not one star is because the interior design was nice.

I have been several times & I am a big fan. The only negative was that the beers were not as impressive as the previous times I have come. The taco though was incredible

Very nice food, beer, ambience and friendly staffbut you have to understand I am an old guy. My purpose in going to the pub is to stave off the day when I am sitting in the Care Home in my high-backed chair waiting for my medication. Interestingly,, the government is encouraging workers in Hospitality to move to the social care sector, so I may see members of the Crown and Anchor staff again sometime.

We love the C&A. A brilliant pub, with friendly, helpful staff. Love the fish tacos!

There is only a limited menu of tapas here at the moment - I don't know whether this is Covid related or a permanent feature - so we were disappointed not to be able to have a full meal. However, the food we did have was tasty and prices were reasonable.

Popped in here for a couple of drinks before making our way over to Brixton Jamm. First ones in for the day at lunchtime. Drinks and Food orders taken quickly, great suggestion by the bar manager for the Bierkeller lager which went down a treat and then coupled with a really nice american hot dog! Will be returning and thanks for the nice hospitality. Tom

Slimmed down menu (understandable, currently) but really decent food. Quick turnaround. Good value. Service was fine (even though it came in rather tight rugby shorts...)

Avoid this place. Upon arrival was told to write my details down using a pen that everyone uses, no offer of hand sanitizer afterwards. Even though they had all my details from the on line booking. No social distancing whatsoever. The food portion was terrible and when we questioned the manager, she said, it is what it is and we are the only ones complaining and the price is 50%. She fails to understand that the government pays the 50% from my taxes back to them. So no discount to the pub. Very dodgy.She then walked off while I was speaking. She was sweating, very hot so no worries but she was wiping her sweat with her hands then touching plates and serving drinks. No hygiene no social distancing and no sanitizer. Shameful. Horrible Food. Rude and dirty manager.

Service great, very relaxed, felt very welcome. Food a little limited compared to last time I was there (pre-COVID) but that's the only reason to not grade "5" - presentation and quality were fine.

Staff did not wear masks, which I would have preferred. Airy and open inside area with well spaced tables. Most of the food was good (calamari rings to die for) but the nachos were dry and not up to standard. Excellent value under the half-price government scheme (!), though they were busy and it took ages for the food to arrive despite the limited menu.

Huge Sunday roast - the perfect hangover cure. Staff were very friendly and there was a relaxed vibe. Food itself was fine; portions were massive!

Whilst I understand things are difficult re-opening post lockdown, our server made the situation quite uncomfortable by being a touch standoff-ish. This may have been him and us just settling into the "new normal" which let to the odd feeling, but it just all seemed a bit "off". Despite this, the food was, as ever, delicious and I cannot wait for the menu to be further extended.

I came to this pub to meet some friends who were already drinking in there at the time. I went to the loo before ordering my drink. Whilst I was in the loo I then heard a lady screaming and shouting saying I was doing drugs.. One of my friends who I had met in their was in the loo with me who then at which point opened the door to the lady to prove we was innocently going to the loo (embarrassing but I am not a drug user and will not by any means be labelled and accused of doing that) Anyhow she still didn't believe me and did not wish to serve me a drink. I have never been treated in such a disgusting way. I was not rude to her and not drunk I was simply meeting my friends to have an evening drink. I'm 26 years old and felt like I was treated like a school child. I am happy to contact you by phone if you wish to discuss this incident further but I am very upset and disappointed about my treatment at your pub and will not be returning again. You may also want to have some signs in your toilet as you cannot accuse people of doing drugs if they go in the cubicle together, don't label us all the same. You may also want to tell the lady who was working on a Saturday night (dark brown hair) to treat customers with more respect as you can't tarnish everyone with the same brush.

I know this place for a bit more than 6 months and love to go there for either just drinks or also food - especially the Sunday roasts. They cater for meat lovers, vegetarians, as well as vegan friends, hence for everyone there is something. The staff is very pleasant, and there is a good atmosphere. On sunny days it's great to be on the terrace, on rainy days it's lovely to sit indoor, with the brick-wall adding to the atmosphere. I can definitely strongly recommend this jewel!

He estado aquí tres veces recientemente y cada vez me ha tratado terriblemente el personal que se comporta como si fuera una molestia en lugar de un cliente. Más recientemente vine con mis dos hijos pequeños y me regañaron por dejarlos caminar durante 2 minutos. Luego, cuando nos fuimos, tuvimos que abrir la puerta doble para pasar el cochecito y antes de que tuviera la oportunidad de volver a cerrarlo, el camarero vino y lo cerró de golpe detrás de nosotros y sacudió la cabeza como si fuéramos unos animales groseros que no No sé cómo comportarme. Nunca volveré aquí y también presentaré una queja a la gerencia. Nunca me hicieron sentir menos bienvenido que en el Crown and Anchor en Brixton Road. La comida también es muy mediocre en el mejor de los casos.

Great local pub for anyone who lives around SW9 - which I've found difficult to find so close to central London. Good selection of beers to cater to all tastes and the staff are welcoming. Doesn't take long to get a drink either. The quiz on Tuesdays is good fun too.

Llegué a Crown después de que terminé mi turno de 9 horas cocinando el almuerzo del domingo, para reunirme con amigos.Como de costumbre, había dejado el trabajo con hambre y me alegro de haberlo hecho.El asado de cerdo fue uno de los mejores que he tenido.Y he tenido la mía y muchas otras que comparten.Un gran grito a la cocina todavía echando comida increíble tan tarde un domingo.Yo era un chef felizAdemás, la comida era muy buena relación calidad-precio y había muchas buenas cervezas de barril.

Venus boire un verre ce 26 octobre pour nous détendre, on y a trouvé un accueil plutôt froid. Cinq minutes environ après avoir passé commande et pris les boissons, un serveur est venu apposer un papier sur notre table (ainsi que celle de nos voisines britanniques) indiquant « Table reserved for Steeve » à partir de 17h45, nous laissant un quart d’heure pour partir. Dix minutes après, ce même serveur nous a mis la pression en nous demandant de lever le camp... il s’est essayé à des explications, mais quand je lui ai demandé de reformuler car je ne comprenais pas bien, il a simplement répondu par un « MOVE »... très clair pour le coup...On a eu un sentiment très fort d’être pris pour des clients dont seul le contenu du porte-monnaie les intéressait...

Great quiz, cool atmosphere, superb drinks selection and tasty food. This is always a good choice if you’re in the area.

I'd appreciate service and beer but I didn't like Sunday roast.. sorry

I had the vegan nut roast, which was delicious. However, I was disappointed that there was no Yorkshire pudding included, as the menu did state that all roasts would come with one. I did ask about this, and was told that it was made with egg so not vegan - fair enough. However, a disclaimer on the menu and/or a cheaper price would have been nice, as about half the plate is empty without a Yorkshire pudding. Overall though I did really like the pub - the staff were great and it had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.

Hay una gran selección de excelentes cervezas en este pub. Está en un lugar agradable en Spade Park con un montón de asientos en la puerta y es realmente útil para Brixton Jamm. La comida es comestible. Aunque los combos de sabor no son buenos. La concisión ácida que pusieron en mi salmón, que incluía alcaparras, era muy fuerte y dominaba todo y las papas asadas estaban secas y polvorientas.

The staff are friendly and efficient so hard off to them. My roast did have a lot of gravy and the meet was a bit fatty. Otherwise it was pretty good and didn't dent my wallet.

Excelente pub en Brixton Road que sirve cervezas artesanales de calidad y comida deliciosa.He estado allí varias veces y, aparte de los domingos, siempre he encontrado una mesa con facilidad. Tienen una amplia área al aire libre que en un día cálido me sienta bien.Un personal cálido y acogedor y, si no está familiarizado con las cervezas artesanales, le aconsejarán y le dejarán probar algunas muestras.Fuera de la ruta turística habitual, la Corona y el Ancla se convierten definitivamente en uno de mis lugares favoritos para relajarme durante una hora o así, y también para tomar una buena cerveza fría (o dos)

A great friendly and community pub. There is food for all tastes as well as drinks. It has a great atmosphere and enjoy coming back to this pub regularly.

Nice place with great atmosphere. Went for a roast dinner, not the best quality but certainly excellent value for money.

Vegetables too hard, Yorkshire pudding missing, incredibly difficult to split a bill and give tips by card despite it being a card-only pub!

Good service but disappointed with the roast. Beef was over-cooked and too thinly sliced for rib-eye. Veg was al dente but not particularly interesting.

Visité el domingo asado en Brixton con algunos amigos. Tuve el asado de nuez que era sabroso y crujiente, sis tenía el pollo y el compañero tenía el cordero - todos estuvieron de acuerdo en que era un buen asado.El servicio fue increíble, después de comer el asado y el postre no pude pasar por la tabla de quesos, el camarero tuvo la amabilidad de envolverme con galletas extra e incluso una bolsa de papel de aluminio para el chutney, ¡leyenda! !

Five friends for Sunday lunch - all very good, staff great, good beer.

A lovely pub with speedy and friendly service. Great range of beers and ciders and amazing food. I don't like that you can only pay by card but can only tip in cash! This meant I couldn't leave a tip for the great service as I knew it was a card only place.

Good value Sunday roast with excellent service. I would go back and would like to try their regular menu.

Brilliant as always, the Crown and Anchor delivers friendly service and excellent food and drink. I had been a few times before but was with friends who hadn't been before, and they all loved it.

I was quite excited about trying the vegan sunday roast as I saw positive reviews elsewhere. But it was rather bland. Vegetables were simply boiled (and only just cooked enough). Food was tepid by the time it arrived. Looked rather sorry next to the meaty roasts.

Solía ir allí regularmente con amigos después del trabajo, pero como introdujeron una política de no efectivo, vamos a otra parte. Renuncié a la comida hace un tiempo, que comenzó bastante bien, pero bajé la colina rápidamente. La selección de cerveza es buena.El servicio es variable ya que tienen una alta rotación de personal.

Overall lovely lunch with good food and good service. ONLY negative was being sat with the door to the kitchen behind one of us and the direct route to the toilets behind the other. Not the best position for a table. Would eat here again.

Amazing beer Amazing food Friendly and helpful staff.

The roast was so basic! The meat was good but then the potatoes were average and all the veg just plain boiled - nothing special about it at all. Could have made it better at home. It was the same price as amazing London roasts which is unjust. The service was not great - they took away plates whilst people were still eating and then left one dirty plate on the table for ages. We waited ages for the bill. I wouldn’t bother returning!

Not much to add to the title apart from the fact that the range of beers is also a good reason to visit. Wish it was my local.

Great food (especially for the price!) and a lovely atmosphere, with staff who went out of their way to be friendly. The only issue was that when we wanted to tip the staff for the good service, we were told we could only do so by cash (which we didn't have) and we would therefore have to go down the street to the nearest ATM to get some. Seems a shame as I'm sure the staff lose out on a lot of tips this way.

Good meeting place for this part of town for Sunday lunch. Sound cooking, hot food, excellent lamb, pleasant service.

Only negative is you have to pay by plastic. I get the digital age is being pushed on us but I still want the choice on how I want to pay and who should know I ate there. I hope they change this to give the customer more options.

Ατμόσφαιρα μιας κλασικής αγγλικής παμπ κ με καθυστέρηση στις παραγγελίες. Μετά από περίπου μισή ώρα απ τη στιγμή που παραγγείλαμε ήρθε το φαγητό. Μέτρια πιάτα , 2 burger με κοτόπουλο , fish & chips , beef burger.

Our group of friends had organised to catch up over a meal the night of 21/12/18. Our table was ordering food, everyone else was able to place an order. When it came my turn to order, I was told they were not taking any more orders, as they had to now cater for another group. I questioned the staff member over this, but I was told this other group were a priority as they had pre-booked for a Christmas party. I was told I could come back to place an order in 30 minutes time. So everyone else on the table was served food, except me, who had to just sit and watch everyone else eat. We were all in disbelief. Very poor service.

Very acommadating staff. Even let us change our baby in their staff area (with lack of baby change) Would have given full marks for food however there was no stuffing with the turkey (present with chicken) and menu said “pigs in blankets” but there only a lonely solo little swine accompanying the turkey. Tasty though! Gone are the days from a previous visit where the Yorkshire puddings could be used in warfare, aka boulders. Lovely place, less stingy with the trimmings please. Or at least put “pig in blanket” on the menu. Thank you. Tristan

I live in South East London and had heard great things about this place from friends and they were definitely not wrong! Really great vibe as soon as walked in, staff really friendly and greeted us, only wanted drinks which was fine, very knowledgeable staff and very attentive, especially the manager unfortunately didn’t catch her name but she made it a great experience, recommended

Fui allí para un asado con algunos amigos el domingo. No puedo comentar sobre el resto de su menú, pero no era un gran fan de su asado vegetariano; Me sabía un poco insípido, pero definitivamente volvería porque el servicio era excelente. Éramos un grupo de 6 con 4 vegetarianos y amablemente mantenían 4 comidas vegetarianas disponibles para nosotros, lo que fue genial, ya que van bastante rápido. También tuvimos algunos cambios de último minuto con nuestras reservas y el personal fue fantástico para acomodar. El bar y los camareros eran super amables, lo que realmente resonaba con el ambiente del lugar.

It was a lovely pub - vibrant and buzzy - but not a place we would go to again for Sunday lunch as the food wasn't great really and the staff, although lovely, looked very overworked!

Re visited last week and was surprised it is now a cashless pub! Notices up saying no cash transaction must be contactless or Apple Pay. Interesting choice to limit audience Best be aware
