The Crown in Central Bedfordshire

This is a lovely village pub, out in the countryside. The service was great. Nice atmosphere My whitebait were good, even though there were ony 14 of them in the shoal. My blue burger was nice but slightly spoiled for me by my friend having the ribs. They were so good - I know this because she let me try a couple. We were planning to go back, while we were there, just so I could have the ribs. I'll be back !

Superb friendly service, great food and sensible prices. I thought the seating arrangement in the restaurant was well thought out too.

Booked in for early dinner for me and my husband. We both ordered from the specials for our main meals. He had the Chicken and chorizo pie and I had the Mushroom and Ricotta tortellini pasta. Both delicious. Staff lovely and friendly too.

Half way meeting place for old school friends that will be a regular event venue. Very friendly staff and management, verygood food (fish & chips was large, well priced and excellent) and local beer. Rather than a long and varied ala carte menu we would suggest more ‘pub specials’ - particularly for lunch. Dog welcoming although we felt that it was unnecessary to have the designated area remote from the pub ‘atmosphere’ when the rest was not busy. We have already recommended to friends who live in the area.

We arrived at 5.15pm but were told that they didn't start food until 6pm but we decided to have a drink and wait and I'm glad that we did. The food was amazing. We both had a Smoked Salmon starter and we received quite a large portion which we were really happy with. Next my husband had a 10oz Steak cooked to his liking and he could have had a sauce of his choice on top but he declined, I had the slow Roasted Pork Belly and Red Cabbage & Mashed Potato, it was really fantastic. Each staff member gave a personal service and included us like we were old friends. We will definitely be returning here in the not too distant future. We definitely recommend.

Outstanding food. Lovely staff and great value in a warm and charming Country Pub/Restaurant. We have been many times for Lunches and Dinners. Never disappointed.

Went for a meal to celebrate my husbands birthday. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who served us extremely well. All 8 of us enjoyed amazing food & the prawn starter is highly recommended. Hubby was presented with a birthday card & glass of fizz - lovely touch 😀 We will definitely be back 😀

The meal started with confusion on my part that Christmas meals needed to be pre ordered. This could have been in part caused by using a third party booking service the waitress tried to resolve the issue with Christmas meals being provided. Next time I will ring to confirm rather than rely on the booking service confirmation email. We were happy with the food and service. As a Shillington resident it is good to have a pub in the village serving food

Popped into the crown for a quick lunch and a desperate Guinness. Not wanting a large lunch i went for a beetroot and goats cheese salad it was delicious and the Guinness was great. This is my local restaurant and know the staff that are so friendly and even laugh at my jokes. Family and dog friendly.

Booked for the Cocktail Evening which was 5 cocktails with 5 courses. Well what a fabulous evening we had. Every cocktail was beautifully paired with each course. We absolutely loved every single one and the food was fine dining quality. Super impressed. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and knew every ingredient in every component of the evening. As each plate arrived it was swiftly followed by the cocktail. Lots of effort was clearly made to ensure this was a smooth process. There was also live music from the very talented Cameo Williams who sang everything from Amy Winehouse to Blondie and Oasis. We had the best evening and really hope they do it again as will come back with friends next time. 👏🏼

Terrible food could only be described as school dinner quality absolutely no flavour terrible service and rude staff do not waste your money!!

Overpriced for what was served up. We took our young puppy with us for dinner and the staff were so incredibly welcoming and accommodating for us (and him). They even have a doggy menu! Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Can’t wait to take our pup again!!

Father's Day lunch Would like to thank the Crown management and staff for a lovely lunch yesterday, everything was very good, brilliant service and we really enjoyed the food especially the Sundae!

Took my dad for Father’s Day. Nice breakfast, but on the expensive side, big breakfast is just over £13. Food was very nice but poached eggs severely underdone, jelly and water. Would of expected 2 hash browns as only had one, very small portion of beans too. But overall worth a try, hopefully the eggs were a one off!

Excellent lunch and reasonably priced. Highly recommend the pub … best fried haloumi fries I’ve eaten. Friends equally impressed with food and service.

Breakfast for four here on 20/5. Was an excellent experience from start to finish. Usual warm welcome that you always get at the Crown and excellent service the whole time we were here. We are breakfast returners but our friends had never experienced a Crown breakfast. Food as usual was top quality, well cooked, well presented and tasty. If you fancy a breakfast out on a Saturday or a Sunday this is the place to go. We will be back.

Absolutely awful management and terrible experience. As we were eating our meal, the manager became aggressive and proceeded to knock a wall down and kick out two customers and throw their belongings at them. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable, the environments was very hostile after this. For this reason we definitely will not be returning

Took my wife and daughter, who has ADHD and ASD to The Crown for Brunch this morning. Excellent food and service as usual. Staff and management polite, welcoming and accommodating. Popped in the celebrate the first day of our staycation. Very COVID compliant, great service and lovely food. I had smoked salmon followed by a fantastic salad with chicken. Generous portion. Hubbie had mushrooms followed by chicken beast, then a yummy gooey cheesecake.

Our usual great meal at The Crown - all 3 courses were so tasty and thoroughly enjoyed by all four of us. Two wanted the three meat roast lunch, but Dad and I wanted to leave room for dessert. I tried the tasty beef lasagne with salad and chips. In fact we all managed to fit in a scrummy dessert too. My tiramisu was fabulous.All very COVID safe, with the very efficient staff ensuring requirements were adhered to.

The Crown has been an excellent community resource during lockdown, providing very good takeaway meals and service and a range of essentials from their 'pop up' shop. They showed commitment, creativity and community spirit.Now they are back open again it is a treat to be back 'down pub'! A warm welcome is standard and I feel they have done everything possible to reduce Covid-related risks. Have enjoyed 3 great meals there so far and looking forward to the next one.The pandemic has been a severe test for most businesses; the Crown has passed that test with flying colours.

We had dinner at the Crown as a party of 4 on 13 August. What a lovely experience. This was our second visit following the Covid reopening ( we were previously here for lunch as a party of 2 last Wednesday). This time we were joined by friends up from Hampshire who also thoroughly enjoyed their evening. We were very impressed with all the Covid protections in place and felt very comfortable and at ease. Food was great as usual. Well prepared, well presented and very tasty. We had four starters and four main dishes plus a bottle of wine and two beers. Cost including a 10% tip was a very reasonable £135.00. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. We will be back!

My wife and I have just had lunch with our baby daughter. Its great to see the new measures that have been taken post-lockdown to keep everyone safe - you feel very secure eating at the Crown. LYou are also able to order via smartphone using a QR code on the table if you'd like to further reduce contact - we didnt use this option but had a quick play with the link and it works seamlessly. Service by Iain and Beth was as good as always, and the food was delicious! Highly recommended to anyone in the area!

Always driven past but hadn't gone to till now, but checked out the menu online and was surprised with the amount of gluten free (GF) dishes available!Booking a table was easy, and I was informed of their current protocol during these current times.All staff wore face masks and were very pleasant and friendly.There was loads of gluten free options available, including starters and desserts. Opting for a GF squid starter for sharing this was lovely however could have done with some form of sauce.I went for the GF cajun burger... This came with GF onion rings!!!!!!! It was tasty, the bun was a typical 'stale' bun and didn't fall apart. I was very happy.My family enjoyed the pork belly, and chickpea curry & would definitely eat there again.Lunch options are also available in gf as are Sunday lunches!! So definitely a wide range for various dietary requirements including a fee vegan options.Definitely recommend!!!

Came to the crown for post lockdown dinner with friends and wow, they were completely professional and clean, felt completely safe and looked after. Food was absolutely perfect and service was incredible. Thank you so much for working hard and continuing to serve customers. Will be back!!!!!!!!

Lockdown Sunday roast takeaway We are outside the delivery area but we were happy to collect and it was worth the trip. Ordered Roast Pork and Roast Turkey. Both were generous portions sizes and nice and hot. Very tasty meal and it was lovely not to have lots of washing up afterwards! Process of collection was very safely done and we feel confident to book to visit now the rules are changing to allow restaurants to open.

Excellent afternoon tea supplied during , lock down, to be eaten at home. A wide variety of sandwiches, supplied to our dietary requirements. Lovely selection of cakes plus scone with jams and creams. Wide variety of tea choices. All supplied with a smile from very helpful, friendly and accommodating staff. Will definitely book again

The pub is shut but they are open for a takeaway either delivered or for pick up . It was our wedding anniversary and we wanted a take away to celebrate. Menu online and varied good choice off food. We phoned up and could not be more helpful order taken on phone we opted for delivery which was 5 pounds but you still get a 10% discount off menu price . We asked for 7 PM delivery food turned in in bags in take away containers five minutes before so perfect excellent service.Food piping hot steak cooked as we asked good quality sassages and mash excellent with gravy and scampi good to. Great to see this pub offering good quality food to your door in these times and serving the community.

The pub itself may be closed during this lockdown but the restaurant is still serving - for takeaway or delivery. We are glad to see they are playing their part in helping to provide the village with an alternative to cooking at home all the time. The menu is wide enough for choice and the food is just as good as being in the restaurant, with a full drinks menu too. We have them deliver and the delivery is always on time. They also have set up a small shop with basic provisions which is open through the day.Well done, The Crown!

First time we have been to this pub and we are so glad we did,food was lovely and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The hanging skewers were just perfect!! we go out to a local pub for dinner one night every week and we will certainly be adding the Crown to our regular places. Just had an amazing meal at The Crown Shillington. Opted for the set menu for £30 and we weren't disappointed. My husband had the soup and salmon and said that both were lovely. I had the pork belly which was absolutely delicious,, melted in the mouth.. literally .. followed by a gorgeous chocolate torte with raspberry sorbet and coulis . The service was. as always exemplary .. the staff are so friendly and helpful and go the extra mile to make your evening special.. plus .. a lovely red rose to take home as a memory of a lovely evening. We have had lunch here several times recently and we are always impressed with the friendly service and the fabulous food.

Myself, partner and one of our children visited The Crown @ Shillington again today for Sunday lunch, having been impressed by previous visits.Once again, the Sunday roast was of outstanding quality. Myself and partner both opted for the beef, although pork and turkey were also available (as was the regular menu and a specials board). They were completely delicious, served with a healthy portion and mix of fresh vegetables as well as a big, home made Yorkshire Pudding. I added cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets, the latter of which was a special for today - both of which were gorgeous. On this occasion it was relatively quiet, with plenty of spare tables, which was somewhat of a surprise having been very busy on our last 2 visits. Booking was extremely simple (I chose to do it online) and the waiters and waitresses were all very pleasant and efficient.Definitely my favourite Sunday roast in the area and will be back soon to sample Pie Night or Steak Night

Having been impressed with The Crown everytime I've been, booking a table for New Years was a no brainer. I'm so glad we got a table. When we walked in we were greeted by a lovely member of staff and shown through to our table. They had gone the extra mile this evening and there were lots of lovely additions to the table to help with the celebrations and get us in the party mood! Balloons, games, cards, hats etc... We all had the 4 course menu for only £45 each. The little appitiser of smoked salmon was simple but effective. It got my tastebuds tingling ready for the rest of the meal. The Starters were devine and for mains the duck and lamb were cooked perfectly. As the 1st 3 courses were so good he had extremely high expectations for dessert and they exceeded them! The chocolate sponge was probably the best dessert I have ever had. The service was extremely efficient and super friendly. Nothing was too much to ask! we were even offered midnight celebration drinks early and so we pre ordered them. they were prepared on time and they brought them over to us. They had a live singer who got all of us on our feet and dancing and even did a hilarious duet with a staff member at the end. The Crown pulled out all the stops for NYE and certainly didn't disappoint. We will remember welcoming the new decade with you guys for a long long time. Visited The Crown NYE 2018 and everything was brilliant from the food to the entertainment, so that’s why we rebooked for this NYE. The difference this time was it it was a set menu at £45 per head and a live performer.Not a problem and happy to pay this price but the food was not to the standard expected for the price levied including the vegetarian option my wife selected. The performer sang well but the volume was so loud and we could not hear the conversation on our table unless we shouted. The owners made a real effort with balloons, hats, poppers and packs of cards but the food was a real let down across the starters, mains and desserts. The staff were very friendly but even one member stated she could hear what drink order we gave her. It was a real shame.

The service was excellent. Pity about the food which we had pre ordered from the Xmas menu. The starter was returned and refunded. The beef was horrid with a strange flavour. The turkey was fair and unfortunately the vegetables were hard.

I must admit I had reservations about booking in for a charity night, worried it would be chaotic with long delays, as per other places. But their new charity for the next 12 months is Road Victims Trust & I wanted to support them really. Besides, it was Burger Night - who could resist!? I took my parents and there was a wide variety of burgers to choose from, which all came with the most crispy chips & a proper onion ring (whole ring of onion, light batter). Two of us shared a Chocolate Brownie Sundae afterwards - to be honest we were full but as some money from every course was going to the charity we felt obligated (that's our story & we're sticking to it!). They had a raffle with some decent prizes, and despite being packed out, the service & food were both excellent, and I felt that worthy of a review. Plus the burgers were delicious! I would definitely go to another of their charity nights now that I see how well organised & enjoyable they are. Well done to all involved.

First impression when you walk in is of nice welcoming village pub, both bars seem to have a good atmosphere. The dining area on the other hand seems more modern than the rest of the pub and is lacking in atmosphere.

Usually food is great but changed menu today. Had the hanging chicken skewers....... Very bland. Edible but boring. Had about three mushrooms on mine. My partner had lots of mushrooms. Wouldn't have this again. The roast dinners are to die for.

First ever visit here and it was totally brilliant, warm comfortable and very friendly staff Had lovely lunch, loads of choice and the food was delicious - we had toasted ciabattas with ‘real’ chips, usually take photos but try it, you’ll see how great it is xx Going back in Spring as lots outside seating - can’t wait!

Went for dinner after a big night out the day before... needed a big juicy steak and that’s exactly what we got. It was absolutely delicious, cooked as ordered and came with chips. Hit the spot perfectly.

We went for breakfast as it was my birthday. I had the full English and my husband the larger full English. Both breakfasts were delicious. Perfectly cooked. It’s a lovely setting and the coffee was very good too. There is a good breakfast selection to choose from. Service was fantastic and staff very polite and friendly. If you’re looking for a tasty well cooked breakfast you won’t be disappointed.

Me and my husband hired The Crown for our wedding party. The staff were incredibly organised in the run up to our big day and gave us lots of options for the layout of the space as well as food and drink. They set up a separate space outside just for our guests which included its own bar and inside we hired a band who had plenty of space to put on a great show. All our guests had an amazing time and loved the food and drink on offer, we couldn't recommend The Crown enough

We have visited this pub on numerous occasions now, and would highly recommend it. Great food and lovely staff. A must visit. Well will definitely be returning.

The food is to die for and the service is even better!! Scotch egg to start piping hot and perfectly cooked yolk. And oh the ribs... I'll be coming back again and again for those ribs. I need to know the chefs secret. From start to finish this visit was impeccable. I'm so glad that finally after years of the crown being run down it finally has custodians that really care and make you feel so welcome. The Management have got it spot on! Please keep doing what you are doing. I'm looking forward to many more lazy days drinking and dining at the crown!!!

Visited with friends lovely cosy atmosphere, staff never rushed you and good choice of gluten free options on the menu as well. Food was delicious, steak cooked perfectly and portion sizes are excellent, you certainly never leave feeling hungry!

After the initial hype around the restaurant opening things started to go downhill. The manager clearly struggled to interact with locals, sarcastic tones were provided, along with rude remarks. The manager was very rude to my family members after they queried their food. We ordered a medium rare stake, after cutting it open we asked a member of staff to take it back as it was very undercooked, only to be told “this is how the food is cooked here, just get on with it”. Would definitely not recommend to anyone, unless you enjoy being told you’re wrong!

My wife and I had lunch at the Crown with our (2 and 1/2 y.o) son on Tuesday. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we entered to the moment we left - they bought over crayons to keep him occupied, which was a nice touch.

Was so excited to hear the Crown was to be reopened after it was closed for 6 months , however I’m so disappointed with the attitude of the management over time. They started off well but their true colours showed through. They do not take criticism very well , In fact they can get very rude and use insulting language. It’s obviously too much to ask for a full pint in this pub! We took friends for a meal and one of them had to have gluten free , which was ordered. Unfortunately what arrived was not gluten free!! Fortunately our guest immediately noticed it wasn’t before she ate any. This mistake could of caused real problem had she not noticed . Must admit the staff were very embarrassed about this and quickly ordered the correct meal , but it turned up 30 mins later than the rest of the meal.

The roast looked nice, but tasted awful, I think this was down to the lumpy gravy served all over it - it had a sour taste.

We had Sunday Lunch here on 9 June as a group of 4. We were repeat visitors but it was a first for our friends. Lovely warm welcome as always was followed by an excellent lunch. We all opted for one of the Sunday Roast options and the food was well prepared, well presented and tasty. Great choice of desserts as well. Service was as usual very good. Our friends were well impressed and plan to return as will we.

We had friends joining us for weekend, not sure what time they would arrive. Called the Crown and asked if we needed to book and what time they stopped serving food. They said no need to book and they stopped serving at 10 pm. We arrive at 8,40pm and were told they could not serve us as they had run out of food! They did not ask what food we might want to check if they still had that, just that they had no food. We were not a large party just 4 people. They had spare tables.

We came to the crown a few days ago and I must say it was very busy, thankfully we booked! However regardless of the amount of people the crown didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent and the service equally excellent, if not even more so. Alex and Iain where fantastic along with all the other staff that helped us. I will be recommending the crown and will definitely be coming back when the weather is as good so we can sit in that garden.

Since the last time I stopped off for a bite in Shillington the Crown has had an expansion and a refit to make it more of a food destination in an area which isn't over-endowed with reliable gastropubs.

Just had a fabulous meal at The Crown to celebrate a birthday. Presented with a birthday card by the lovely waitress. Great menu choice, plus ‘specials’ & knowledgable advice by the waitress, I had Chicken & Leek Pie, it was delicious (homemade), my son had the homemade burger, one of the best he’d ever had. Great choice of desserts & drinks menu, especially Gin choices.

we eat at the crown quite regularly and we have never been disappointed. the staff are very helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you have a good experience.

Had a lovely breakfast at the crown today. Would recommend you to try it . i had full breakfast was definitely worth the money . Partner had egg Benedict and said it was great .. and was plenty on plate . And to top it off . Service with a smile definitely be going back very soon .

Wide variety of seasonal, locally sourced, ingredients on the a la carte main menu, good selection of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes. Deals almost every day, including a very reasonable set lunch menu. Warm welcome and friendly staff, Ian goes above and beyond to make sure your breakfast/lunch/ dinner experience is excellent and nothing less. Very proud to call it my local.

I arranged for my wife & I to visit The Crown for Sunday Lunch, as I had celebrated my birthday on the day before ie Sat 19th Jan. We had recently had a wonderful lunch mid week 10 days early when searching for a venue for my wife's group of 30 + ladies for somewhere to hold their February function.
