The Crown in Stockport

As well as having an excellent restaurant with a great menu The Crown also has an outstanding function room. The room is very well presented and is spotlessly clean They set the room out to suit whatever type of event you are having, such as weddings, birthdays or even a wake and they offer some really nice buffets as well as special menus. The staff are very warm and friendly and they provide all the help that you need to arrange your day.

Atmosphere was good but food average. Garlic mushrooms were like warm. Beef stroganoff was nice but meat was a little tuff and not enough sauce so dry. Dessert was jam roll poly and custard, this was the best out of what I ordered. Couldn’t fault the service.

My family and friends went on Sat 3rd Feb 23 for my birthday meal, expecting it to be very good but it wasn’t. In fact the food was very poor, garlic mushrooms lukewarm and in a bland sauce, soup was lukewarm and very bland, now for the mains, we asked for steak medium rare but it came medium well and it looked and tasted like a frozen beef grill steak, the sea bass was cold and dry, the breaded haddock was so well done it was hard, steak and mushroom pie was bland, salty and the pastry was so hard it was inedible, the choc brownie was very plain, and also the Sticky toffee pudding was just like chocolate cake with toffee sauce poured over. We had already sent back the sea bass and when asked if everything was ok one person said no but nothing was done . So when we received the huge bill my husband and I complained but the mangeress just said why didn’t you tell the staff, I asked for her to take off some food off the bill but she only took off the sea bass and declined to even take off a round of drinks or starters!! I had to apologise to everyone for the poor food, it spoilt the evening and when you pay a lot of money to expect good food it’s very disappointing and upsetting. We didn’t sleep properly all weekend worrying about it , we definitely will not be going again. We dread to think what a wedding is like there!!

Starter, Garlic mushrooms was only just warm. Main, steak with chips and peppercorn sauce. Steak was meant to be med/rare, it was med well, Chips are frozen chips and the peppercorn sauce was bland as if it was packet. Dessert,chocolate brownie, was OK but it was neither hot or cold. Will not me rushing back

Well what a find! Wonderful pub, with lovely atmosphere, very helpful, friendly and polite staff. The food was really nice, especially the steak and ale pies, the chocolate fudge desert and the chocolate and raspberry tart. Definitely be returning in the future and can highly recommend it.

We were attending a friends sons 18th birthday . The food was very mediocre and then fell short . The canapes were taking forever. I was feeling sorry for the hosts who had paid a fortune for the party . Never coming back here .

Average experience after not being to the crown for a couple years. The menu is very limited with very basics meals. The chicken Skewer is £16 for 5 small pieces of chicken and a handful of chips, definitely not value for money.

Fantastic food, we have been here a few times now as moved to Marple and all meals we have tried have been amazing. Great range of beers. Staff very friendly and very helpful.

Spotless premises, nice atmosphere on entering, lovely friendly staff, 3 fantastic meals paired with lovely wine ( nice glasses) and piping hot latte and teas. Staff actually remembered the request for water for the table which is a rarity. Highly recommend.

The food and service are absolutely superb - 1st class! The lady front of house is exceptionally well organised, friendly and accommodating and the staff are efficient, helpful and attentive.

This place is a rare jewel. The food is excellent. The pies are hand made and to die for. Crunchy chips. Gravy hugs. Heaven. Walks nearby are stunning. But the customer service is just standout. Warm welcome. Attentive and responsive. We brought our old lab and she was spoilt absolute rotten. (If you want to eat without pets there are plenty of options at the Crown too 🙂) We live in Stockport, but will definitely make the trip back!

Absolutely fantastic lunch. Pies made on the premises by a true piemaster are first class. All of the food was serves hot and fresh and all came to the table at the same time. The menu is really nice with plenty of choice and reasonably priced. The premises are spotlessly clean and there is a nice friendly relaxed atmosphere, ideal for an unhurried lunch. Our server Millie was lovely and made the visit even more enjoyable. Congratulations to everyone at The Crown for achieving and maintaining such high standards.

The young waitress who took our order was lovely however:- The website describes it as an unforgettable experience…. It definitely was for our first visit ! Our main meal came but we had ordered starters? That went back our starters came but one was not what we’d ordered? On ordering deserts ( a different waitress ) we asked if it would be possible to have ice cream and custard, of course was the reply. Dessert came with just custard, this was whipped away by a very disgruntled waitress and corrected for us! On paying the bill no acknowledgment of mix ups ie sorry ? Doesn’t make you want to revisit.

Had lunch outside today. The pies used to be amazing but I think the chef who made them has left. At £15 for cheese and onion it was too expensive . The cost of ingredients would have been minimal. It was tasteless. The waitress asked how it was and I said it was not nice. She laughed nervously and asked if we wanted desserts or coffee. When I paid the gentleman also asked. At least he apologised. There is no point asking if you do not address a complaint! My husband's burger was also £15. Again it was not worth the money

The Crown is located in the Hawk Green area of Marple. The is a large car park to the rear and the premises were very well presented. There is a large outside area as well as plenty of tables inside. There were real ales on offer all from the Robinson's stable. The menu was varied and the food was cooked and presented to a high standard. The serving staff were very professional and the service was very good. Prices were on the higher side when compared to other local establishments but the value for money was OK. If you are in the area I would certainly recommend a visit.

Visited on the off chance as the Crown is such a pleasant looking pub in a nice area. Good sized car park. Recently decorated throughout, the interior was tasteful and attractive. Comfortable seating and friendly staff who can be summoned by a call button on the table. A varied menu of pub classics and a few other dishes. Service was quick and food was well presented and tasty. Not cheap, but good value. A well kept cellar and good coffee added to the experience. Recommend.

My husband and I came to visit Marple for the day. We found The Crown by chance whilst looking for a different restaurant (that no longer exists). I am so glad because lunch at the Crown was a lovely experience and topped off a wonderful day. Millie (our waitress) was an excellent waitress who was attentive, friendly, and able to make us feel right at home. The interior of The Crown is nicely lit and very comfortable. We ordered lasagne, beef and mushroom pie, and garlic and cheese ciabatta. Our food was beautifully presented, tasty and hot. This was a really lovely outing.
