If you’re near Moretonhampstead you’ve got to come to Cross St Cafe for Sunday lunch! Lovely atmosphere. Good choice of roast incl nut roast with excellent roast potatoes and so many fresh vegetables! Didn’t have pudding but that looked great too. We had a glass of Merlot with our meal, again, excellent You’ll get a great welcome too- the service was excellent . Emma and her team also offer excellent cake and coffee and other snacks.

The wife and I had a late breakfast here. Small and lovely little place, cosy and comfortable interior, with lovely big friendly 'cafe dog' signaling it's dog friendly. We chose from the pre-12 noon breakfast menu, which had a very nice and varied selection. I had the full English. It was very well cooked with the excellent scrambled eggs and nicely crisped bacon in particular; the two sausages were a little too small- but tasty - and the portion of mushrooms but a small sprinkling (running out as it was nearly 12?) , but fair portions on all else plus two rounds of thick toast thick with plenty of butter - decent value for just £7.50. Lovely service by the young lady who was doing front of house. Would go again - but I'll ask for more mushrooms! :-)

Up until today I would have said what a wonderful cafe this was. We had lunch today and the person servicing was the most miserable person ever. It was like you weren't well come . We both felt very uncomfortable. it was hard work even getting a coffee because he was on his phone all the time.

Spur of the moment decision for a Sunday roast and there was one table free. The host made us very welcome and there is a real friendly buzz. It is not a large cafe but individual attention and we would definitely return if ever in the area again. Only complaint - too much food so couldn’t have dessert!!!

I happened to come across the cafe on social media a few days ago and phoned to see if there was space for 2 for a Sunday roast today. We were in luck! Neither of us find it easy walking into somewhere new but somehow this wasn’t a problem today. The lady even remembered my name from the booking! The roast was the best I’ve had in memory and all in all it was just wonderful. I’m sure we will be back soon!

We found this little cafe by chance looking around for somewhere to have lunch. It can be described as one of Devon's best kept secrets. The standard of cooking is first rate. There was a friendly welcome and a reasonable (but not huge) range of dishes on offer. My wife loved her 3-bean salad and my beef pasty was excellent,as good as the best Cornish pasties made in Cornwall (e.g. Philps or Ann's).There was a selection of delicious home-made cakes ( we had a couple). The cost of the food was very reasonable. All in all a very good find.

We were looking for somewhere to eat and stumbled across this place on Trip advisor. We decided to give it a go purely on the excellent reviews and photos left from previous visitors. I’m so glad we did. It’s a lovely looking cafe and feels very warm and welcoming the lady that serves us was very friendly and polite. The food tasted great, the portion size was very generous and the price was well priced, if not a little on the cheap side. If we happen to be in the area again we’ll definitely be visiting again and I’ve already recommended it to my Mum and Dad who are regular visitors to the Dartmoor area.

I only write reviews when I come across something that warrants it...Be it good or bad...Well this time I am pleased to say this is one of the good reviews.....I travel extensively through the US and the UK hence the username......I am a coffee connoisseur and passing through Moretonhampstead in Devon in good old England my wife and I both started looking for the caffeine fix establishments...found "The Cross Street Cafe" and walking past noticing it was very busy, upon walking back looking inside the establishment was still busy...this is always a good sign that the owner seems to be doing something right. Ordered two latte's and as you know these small establishments only usually take debit cards and cash with certain credit cards accepted but hey wait a minute this place takes all cards I can get some points from my reward card.. The coffee arrived now on first view the presentation is very good and the texture looked good meaning this guy who prepared it knew how to get the micro bubbles into the milk and keep them there, unlike some places that don't really know how to prepare the perfect cup...Well upon tasting the coffee it was rich creamy with a balanced taste of the coffee..what had the barista done...he had prepared the coffee perfectly. My wife looked at me knowing full well I do comment but she knew I was impressed because I took two sips not one and she too smiled as the coffee hit the back of the mouth. At last an establishment who gets my five star award...

We were aiming to get lunch. The cafe was busy but some tables with 4 seats only had 2 people at them. As we walked in and looked round, a male member of staff said "We're full". A very pleasant young woman invited us to share her table with us, at which point the same male barked "we're not serving food" - patently not the case as everyone was eating lunch! So we left and went to a cafe nearby. This was on the day of the village carnival and we were aware that some places were closing early. Perhaps we were indeed just a bit too late - but there are ways of delivering a message that are more friendly and leave a better impression.

Was on the lookout for gluten free options and after walking miles around Teignmouth I'd given up hope! Until I came across this little gem..!! So many options to me for lunch and an amazing selection of cakes and scones. I opted for a jacket potato and it was served with a salad which I thought was such a nice touch so many places don't do this. Iced coffee and lemon cake - all gluten free! Can't wait to visit again and bring my kids next time. It was in a good location and the tables were spaced perfectly, it was clean and the owner was super friendly - what more do you want?! Would highly recommend

I did a review nearly a year ago and don't know why we haven't been back sooner. We had a delicious Sunday roast today and shared a gorgeous Strawberry Cheese cake. Extremely good value meal and the Dartmoor Legend a good price too. The place is spotless the staff are attentive I would highly recommend the Rising Sun.
