Hard working staff, great atmosphere really good value food and drinks

Best pub in Beverley 😀 very clean and tidy with a great selection of ales and food all reasonably priced . Very poor real ale selection, duty manager NOT customer friendly, waiting far too long to be served.There is something fundamentally wrong with this pub, just can't put my finger on the problem.Have visited over a hundred of wetherspoon pubs but this one is one of the worst for service.

Inadequate poorly served had to make my own burger back up ,chips was scraps my meal literally looked like it was dumped on my plate

Chaotic. Food and drink doesn't arrive (because tables have been 'moved'). Handpull drinks are wrong (ipa comes out as stout). Rough as hell, too big for too few staff.

We were told that it was dog friendly and it was if you want to eat outside, luckily for us it was a rain free day so be warned its outside dog friendly and 30 minutes for a burger and chips when there was hardly any one there, think 3 stars is generous, shame...

Only popped in for a drink, charming staff.

Went in with two of my friends order our food only to get ID and for them to tell us we couldnt eat there. We had already paid for our food and there were no signs outside the wetherspoons explaining we couldnt eat there. They then proceeded to tell us we could get out food but wasnt allowed to eat inside and would have to get takeout boxes and leave.

Typical 'Spoons but also a friendly, welcoming place. Had the buttermilk chicken burger which was moist,tasty and hot with a pint of San Miguel, can't go wrong for just over £9.

Came with my teen for tea on the way home from a day out. Ordered on app so I could stay with my autistic teen. All drinks were quickly dumped in front of my teen and server disappeared before I got chance to say mine was wrong (totally different in appearance/colour but server announced it as correct drink). Went to bar to ask for it changing. The area was busy but there was only one other customer stood at the actual bar when I arrived so I stood to his right. The male bartender was taking his time chatting to him and by the time he'd finished two other men had arrived and stood on the left hand side of the customer stood next to me. The bartender clearly knew both men, started chatting to them and asked who was next out of the two men, I piped up that I'd been waiting longer, and the bartender disagreed and told me to wait my turn, while acting as a bystander as his customer was verbally abusive towards me. A female member of staff saw this, and as her colleague started serving the men agreed I was next, said she had made up my drink and said 'yeah, sorry, that's on me' and got me a new drink. Ordinarily I'd have left it at that but the male bartender wouldn't back down, made a show out of tasting my drink, in front of his other customers, was quite patronising, questioning whether this (totally different in colour to what I'd ordered) drink really was incorrect and then asked for my table number because 'I probably did it wrong on the app' (I hadn't). Thanking the female bartender I returned to my autistic son, who by this point was panicking about where I was. The food was also disappointing. My teen always orders the same as he needs consistency. He couldn't eat the mash as it was cold and chewy. I had the Korean chicken which I'd recently enjoyed at another Wetherspoon's but there was very little sauce it was effectively a bowl of chicken and chips. I used the app to complain about my experience at the bar. The manager did contact me and I was told that they were sorry if I 'felt' I was served the wrong drink. Which I thought was interesting use of language as it removes blame from his staff. I was also told that 'CCTV showed the bar was busy'. There was only one other customer there when I arrived and I had made that clear. They clearly need more staff, as far as I could see there was the lady doing the app orders and the young man.

It's a Wetherspoon's so no surprises. A good range of cask ales at cheap prices. Service was a bit slow - too many people queuing at the bar and not enough staff serving. Some of the tables hadn't been cleared or wiped down so I had to wander around to find a clean one. I didn't eat, but you know what to expect if you've been to a Wetherspoon's before.

Asked for a clean cup, was offered a paper one as none were clean. Told "you'll just have to wait 15 minutes" when I requested a none paper cup. Thought the male barman was rude and obviously could not be bothered to help. When I returned after 15 minutes, still no cups, on request they were deposited on an already dirty tray. On my return to my table the food had arrived and was bearly warm. I will avoid this place in the future.

Lovely outside seating area. Lots of choice on drinks and very good prices. Although very slow service. Understaffed I think. However, the lovely seating area is spoilt by the tables covered in dirty plates and glasses, which staff are either oblivious to, or unwilling to clear away. They just walked past the dirty tables whilst delivering food. It's a disgrace and certainly not the relaxing atmosphere it should be. So disappointing.

The usual whetherspoons vibe, the food was lovely we were served relatively quickly. We were sat for a while and the tables around us were cleared away but we're not cleaned, the table we chose was so sticky the leaflets and menus were attached to the table we had to tear them off. The staff were friendly and helped us when we requested Toilets were emaculate and course up a flight of stairs!

Service was slow, one person serving behind the bar We went at 5 30pm and the pub was very quiet. We sat outside , which used to be a joy , but this time the tables were full of plates and glasses. We sat outside for half an hour , three members of staff delivered food to tables and not one of them made any attempt to clear the tables of finished food or glasses. It was a mess and the staff seemed happy to ignore it. Not a place to sit and relax with a drink.

Today my daughter and her friend both visited Cross Keys Beverley for lunch (both almost 17) they ordered food & a soft drink each only to be told if they wasn’t with an adult or didn’t have ID they’ve have to eat outside (which is fair enough is this the pub’s policy) so they waited with their drinks for their food ,the manager then went and literally took the drinks off them ,grabbed the chairs and shouted at them to leave and wasn’t even allowed to wait for the food they paid for and refused to give them a refund . Abusive language towards teenage girls , the manager should be truly ashamed on how they treated these young girls . They were literally so embarrassed in front of many other people enjoying the sunshine with their food & drinks . If this is how you treat your customer I think you need to be retrained on customer service or perhaps look for a different role where you don’t need to interact with the public as your are clearly not suited to this role. Also seems like we are not the only ones to be treated like this by the so called manager.

As two 17 year olds visiting for soft drinks and a meal we was threatened, sworn at, and got kicked out by the manager, for not bringing ID to prove we was 18 after purchasing goods on the app. policy emphasises 16,17 year olds are allowed to enter the premises at 1pm when we arrived . She refused to serve us further than our soft drinks and refused to refund us for the food when politely asking, then proceeded to remove our drinks from the table and kick us out. We caused no issue here, and got treated horribly.

My wife and i do many city breaks throughout the uk and visit many wetherspoons establishments. Beverley is one of our closest . Unfortunately it is one of the worst we visit . Staffing levels are very poor . Management are rude and unprofessional. We visited today 02/08 and spent three hours in the pub . Not once was the table cleared . Even before we sat down we had to clear glasses from previous customers . The bar is so confusing . The fussy manageress tells people not to queue at the bar but to stand along the bar so not to block off her app order corner . The bar person then has no idea who next to serve . Very rude manageress . Cheap drinks ate about the only positive thing about this pub .

Another lovely Wetherspoons building just off town centre of Beverley ... With a good selection of craft beers. We visited for breakfast and sadly the food was nowhere near the usual standard... Lukewarm and the bloomer bread toast was so pale and cold it might not have shown the toaster for 10 seconds.... Our orange juice was not forthcoming and we found it left on the bar ...

Not enough staff at the bar to serve drinks. Table ordering took even longer. Otherwise ok

The steak was was covered in pepper both sides overpowering the flavour and the meat was chewy. I did complain when one of the staff came to ask if all was ok. And the reply was simply “sorry about that” and walked away. Shame for a usually good pub chain

Good prices as you'd expect in 'Spoons'. Had a pint of Blue moon and a substantial mixed grill for £11. Smashing value.

Drinks outside in the sun quick service, outdoor seating available cheap for drinks, Pink Gin and Lemonade and Pint of Guinness £4.48.

No ingredients in for many meals. Unsure how with the small portions they give out. Presentation terrible I can’t recommend this place to anyone

Visited today with family Sunday 30 June Placed an order via the app for 3 drinks bacardi/coke. coke and pint shandy. We . waited 20 minutes surrounded by dirty tables covered in plates drinks etc. Not a member of staff in sight. Finally we t to the bar to enquire where our drinks were to be told there was no coke and the gas needed changing . I said ok i will sit and wait. Another 10 mins i went back to the bar. Still no drinks not resolved. No apology actually the staff were pretty unbothered and couldn't care less. We wasted nearly 40 minutes finally asked for a card refund and left. Never again. Dirty and Unprofessional.

I've visited the Cross Keys in Beverley countless times, and while I appreciate the affordability, the service has been consistently disappointing lately. As a driver, I often order coffee, but for the past few months, both the coffee and hot chocolate machines have been out of order. The staff seem uninterested in resolving the issue or offering any compensation. It's frustrating, especially for something as simple as a coffee. I hope management can address these concerns and improve the customer experience.

Vile experience, bar staff were serving intoxicated people yet when I ordered I was refused service due to a disability so couldn't get my words out. Had a chat with so called bar manager. Rather eat and drink out of a wheelie bin.

It's just that ever time I go there I have a good time , the foods great , prices are ok, and the locals will talk to anyone, the time just vanished.

Cut backs, only 1 black pudding and side order of beans was in very small gravy boat lol, however poached eggs very perfect

Went to races and visited for a few drinks beforehand and a meal afterwards and was extremely impressed with the Cross Keys. Staff very nice and food excellent. Even went back this morning for breakfast and once again the food was good and the staff very pleasant.

Tables are crammed in making it very difficult to get around, and I would say very unsafe in the event of an emergency.

Why do they insist on slamming glasses in to bottle bank it damages the ears of people around makes for dreadful atmosphere…just place them in the bottle bin. The staff are rude and bitchy and can clearly be heard swearing behind the bar abut customers and their hate for the job. The whole Place is disgustingly dirty and the food service is slow and food warm at best when it arrives.

A truly horrible experience. My order was taken incorrectly and the manager was rude, he nformed me that the customers were not priority to him. He refused to give me a refund and when the food did come it was dried out and tasteless. However the table service staff was very polite, maybe the "Manager" could learn some customer service skills from the table service staff. We all said we would never visit here again. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The food was cold, burnt, and not very appetising. The staff were polite and helpful.

Bell for the disabled entry! But no one bothered to open the door. So what is the point of the bell?

Regular breakfast with a side of black pudding, coffee, and a Godiva real ale for £7. Pleasant bar service with a little wait for the food. Breakfast wasn't too bad, although the beans weren't warm. Very clean interior and small beer garden.

The service was very efficient and we tried table service when the bar became busy. Quick service again with a smile.

Crossed the bridge just to tick it off the list.

Ordered a small breakfast on the app last time I was in, about 2 months ago; it was so cheap and tasty, absolutely fine for the price, and help yourself to tea/coffee. This time we went on Sunday evening about 8pm (meals served until 11) this bank hol weekend, it seemed pretty quiet considering. We ordered curries on the app and drinks. The curries arrived and the server, I think perhaps the manager?, noticed our drinks had not arrived and promptly brought them to us. The curries were very tasty, the poppadoms were freshly deep fried and crisp (could've done with an extra shake on removing from the oil but hey). We were really happy with the meal; plenty of it and piping hot. Bit disappointed there was no mango chutney left. I had a mini warm brownie after which came with a drizzle of sauce on top and a scoop of vanilla icecream. It was delicious and a good size not to feel too guilty about it. If I had a negative it was the drift of cigarette smoke coming through the front doors and filling the little room at the front we were in every so often.

The manager in whetherspoons id’d my friend and told him his picture was too old to be able to use. She then proceeded to offer him a coke and a refund for the rest of the amount. The coke never came. He then went home to get his passport to then come back so he could have a drink and asked her to come over to check it which she then said I’m not coming over there and walked off.

Very busy when we visited ,seemed short staffed,but staff were friendly and doing they very best. We had a long wait for food,but we were told that before we ordered. Food was good, although not very hot,but still good . Go here quite a bit,and enjoy eating and drinking here

What's happened to this place. Not enough staff, dirty tables full of empty glasses and leftover food. Staff do their best but pub in need of overall. More staff required. Sort it out Mr. Martin, please.

Awful. I ordered 2 meals at 12:50pm. At 1:30pm I asked a member of staff how long my meal was going to be and got a sharp reply of 'it won't be long'. I asked why it was so long and she said 'they told you there would be a delay'. I replied 'you served me and you didn't say that'. She gave a huff and walked off. The meals arrived at 1:40pm.

Brunch and a pint on a rainy day in Beverley, staff were friendly and quick, food was good, atmosphere was relaxed.

Fairly quiet when we went mid afternoon, served quickly via app and staff very friendly. Probably best steak I've had in a 'spoonz'...will definitely call again sometime!

Arrived Saturday tea time for drinks with the girls. Pub was very busy (nice weather). got served quickly at the bar and found a seat outside. Lovely staff. 2 gins £4.10 you cant go wrong. We've eaten here before and always been fab. Didn't eat this time.

Absolutely terrible experience in this pub! Went out with friends for a meal here. Took a good 15 to 20 minutes to order the food as they only had one person behind the bar who didn’t really know what he was doing. They didn’t have the curry my husband wanted available on the menu, couldn’t do a black coffee as they were out of milk so they had turned the coffee machine off!!! We ordered our meals, 2 of which were curries. They only had enough poppadoms for one meal so offered extra portion of chips to accommodate which was fine. However when the food was chucked on the table (and I mean chucked), no extra chips were delivered! Waitress who claimed to be the manager stated they’d put extra chips on the curry plate of our friend’s meal but she wanted the poppadoms as she already ordered chips with her meal. The attitude of this manager was disgraceful. My husband said he would have a refund of his meal if they couldn’t compensate by bringing extra chips. So this manager told us all that she would take all the food away from all of us and refund everything and asked us to leave. We were astounded. This reaction was completely unjustified. Then she changed her mind and said she would refund just my husband. Now we appreciate she said they’d been so busy today and short staffed but that’s no excuse to speak to us the way she did. No refund came so we went to the bar to be told they were waiting for us to go to the bar to get it. Then no till roll to give my husband a refund receipt so he had to wait until they sorted that out. All in all an absolute dreadful experience.

Food good (fish and chips) - and served fairly promptly. Went 2 nights - 1st night (Saturday) was extremely busy - even at 6.00 pm - large queue at the bar and only 2 staff serving. Needs a good clean

Understaffed pub Popped in for a drink on Saturday afternoon. The pub was very busy. We went into the small room on the left (dirty plates and a collecting box rammed full of plates, cups near the door) 10 minutes from order on the app Sat in the room an hour - no plates or glasses collected This room looked like the rest of the pub Understaffed with no one to collect the mountain of dirty dishes Great location Great prices Probably the worse staffed pub in the chain we have visited

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal, and the restaurant was very clean and tidy

Ordered a traditional breakfast with extra grilled tomato and a hot chocolate, hot chocolate was like water, so I was told to get another, that was the same, I was then told the machine was broken. My breakfast was cold, had no egg and the tomato was straight out of the fridge and cut in half. We had nearly finished before our friends got their breakfast which also had no egg!! Awful, waiter was a young lad very apologetic but this obviously wasn’t his fault.

Called in here with Family and Friends ( 7 of us ) for Breakfast at around 10.30 am. 5 of the breakfasts arrived quite promptly although one of them had no egg and 2 of them had a tomato straight from the fridge and not even given a flash on the grill. However when the first 5 breakfasts were nearly finished,the other 2 breakfasts had still not arrived forcing one of the party to go to the bar to enquire of there whereabouts. After a further 10 minutes the missing breakfasts arrived strangely one of the plates handed to my daughter was as hot as a volcano on one side and as cold as the Arctic on the other side. The waiter holding the plate on the cold side handed it to my daughter who then burnt her finger on the hot side,Luckily the beans on her plate were that cold that she was able to put her finger in them in order to stop a blister forming. After the shock she noticed that she also had an egg missing from her plate too. I know it was Easter week but i am sure that Eggs were not in such short supply. All in all it was an experience,not sure it is one we would want to try again !!!

Slow service and poor quality food on my last visit.

Popped in here for an after dinner drink. It was quieter than we expected, so a nice surprise for a Saturday evening, and we found a table easily. It did take a while to get served at the bar, but that wasn't a problem. However, the tables were not being cleared quickly and the smell of the left over food lingered around. Not everyone wants to smell of chips on a night out. But having said that, the price of drinks was reasonable and we have been here several times.

Manager needs to crack a smile instead of having a disgustingly bad attitude ppl pick up on body language and to be sighing loudly like serving is too much needs a lesson in customer service. Absolutely appalling attitude won't be going back as the food is just as bad as her attitude

Popped in for a "large" cooked breakfast with refillable coffee to pass some time on Saturday morning and wasn't it a good choice! Business was steady but I got seated without any problems. My breakfast was brought quickly, nice and hot and was very good. Certainly worth 5/5 with the black pudding that was extra! Staff were very pleasant and helpful. I've not been in for a breakfast for a while but definitely won't be leaving it as long next time! Saturday afternoon in March. Busy as expected and typical of 🥄🥄🥄 The only thing I will say is that the staff were run off their feet both behind the bar and on the tables. There was always a queue for the bar which would suggest to me they could with more staff??? Other than that.... You can't beat their prices! Good ol' 🥄🥄🥄

Stopped here for a meal on way to Scarborough never seen anything like it place was packed tables were littered no one clearing tables food delay over 40 mins very understaffed over 20 + people queuing for coffee only one serving at bar absolute shambles we qalked out

I've been here afew times although my drink has had broken glass in it before! and the simple things like a jacket potato seems to be a hard ask! today I was served a tiny jacket potato that looked shrivelled up like a rasin which they hid under the salad , when I took it back they didn't seem happy and asked what the problem was! They reluctantly changed it. Its a jacket potato its not that hard to put together and when you've paid good money you at least want to enjoy it !

Ordered drink via the app. 40 minutes to arrive at our table, went up to the bar three times to see where our drinks were, to be told I'll get round to it when I can. Absolutely shocking service

The Cross Keys is a traditional pub, a typical Wetherspoon's. On this visit we both chose a traditional breakfast and coffee (which you get from a self service coffee machine). It was all very nice at a reasonable price.

Great evening meal at a great price

This has got to be the worst Wetherspoons I have ever visited, low quality of food, by Wetherspoons standard, VERY rude/slow staff that nearly threw my plate of food at me and almost landed on my lap, most empty tables with dirty plates and glasses on with no staff clearing them.

2nd visit to this pub, but first time sampling the food on offer. 4 of us ate for £50 including drinks. We had a mixture of panninis and chips and a chicken burger and chips. One of the panninis had the wrong filling but this was changed straight away to the right order. No salad or coleslaw served with the panninis so pretty plain. The only downside to this pub (which is huge inside) was that tables were not cleared quickly and it looked messy as we tried to find a table. A good place if you want basic cheap food, but not somewhere I would go for a proper meal.

Waited 30 minutes for 3 drinks. Probably at 75% occupancy. Dirty tables everywhere but hardly any staff walking about clearing away or delivering food and drink. No apology after I went looking for the drinks as they where just sat on the bar going flat and warm

Absolutely abysmal service. Over an hour wait for food, when it arrived it practically cold!! No tables cleared , pots piled up everywhere, absolutely disgusting. No staff on the floor & 1 staff on the till. AVOID!!! Spend your cash in another pub

Absolutely awful was given a cremated pizza that looked it had been on fire for half a hour very slow service and when i said i didnt want the pizza i was told the next one would look the same to which i refused. I then went to the bar to get a refund and was greated by a young woman manager with a very poor attitude and no customer service skills. Horrendous service and food so will never go again,been to many spoons before and the pizzas are always lovely as is the service. Would score it a 0 if i could.

I cannot believe how different a place could be from one visit to the next. The last time we visited this pub only a matter of months ago it was very good, but this visit couldn't be more different. It was hard to find a table that was not full of used crockery, nothing was cleared after previous customers had left and there were no cups left so hot drinks were only served using paper cups. The waitress would serve food and then walk past all the tables full of crockery without collecting up any. Our food came out and we were given cutlery which still had the remnants of food on them, and it was obvious that washing up was piling up near to where I got my hot drink from, the room was just piled high. Appalling. This is not Wetherspoons normal standard, staff training is seriously required!

Dirty, needs a good clean. Tables, floor and surroundings disgusting Menu had changed in the past couple of years and the food is now extremely poor Will not be back

Regularly visit here when I’m in Beverley but as it’s considered an “old folks” town, this Spoons resembles more of a cafe since the elderly cheapskates just turn up for their refillable coffees and dawdle about, leaving a massive line which makes getting to the bar difficult. The last time I visited, an elderly man was screaming at staff and marched into the kitchen as the coffee machine wasn’t working. How stingy do you have to be to be aggressive over a £1.50 coffee when the average house in Beverley is six figures?

Service to start with was not pleasent because of the ignorance of the member of staff, ordered a hot drink with my meal, not to be told both coffee machines were down, tried multiple times during our meal to see if back on line which they never came back on, so when requesting a refund after we had finished our meal was mortified to be seen by the same ignorant member of staff who this time was rude

I came in for a lemonade and didn’t have id to prove I was 18 and she won’t serve me for a lemonade apparently you have to get food with it. She was extremely rude to me and went ‘order food or get out’ won’t be going again terrible service and rude staff

We arrived and sat down and immediately this rude waitress came over and id’d all of us even when I was driving and was ordering a Diet Coke. I got my drink and got Moldy lime in it they clearly have something against groups of people!!

Food is reasonably priced. Service is always slow during the day as there aren't many staff around! No coffee cups are available, so we had to use paper cups.

Excellent evening. It was supposed to be a "pub crawl" but it never happened as we stayed in the Cross Keys all evening due to the warm and inviting atmosphere. Staff were friendly and welcoming giving great service. Thanks to all 👍👍

Very disappointed. The tables were dirty. None of the staff greeted us or table checked us. The children had a pizza and the adults had burger and chips. The portion size was literally embarrassing. I had 11 chips. And the burger was smaller than a 99p mcdonald's burger. We won't be visiting again. Il take my business elsewhere

Ok as far as a weather spoon is.

Quite a regular visitor to wetherspoons pubs. But not as frequently as I used too. Are they pubs or cafes? They should really make their mind up. Also this 'order via app' nonsense? I was stood in a queue at the bar in this one, one person serving behind the bar, whilst another staff member was busy preparing an 'app order', then she took it to a table, not twelve foot way from the bar! What is the point? If they want waitress sevice then introduce it. Tables were stacked up with dirty dishes and glasses, I cleared our table myself, and the surrounding tables were still piled up when we left. The coffee machine is cheap but abused. We witnessed someone come in off the street with a paper cup and refill it from the machine. We also saw people walk in and take a dirty mug off a table. rinse it out at the machine, then fill it up. So obviously not enough staff on to keep an eye on this which will only result in those customers who don't abuse it getting pennilised eventually. Decent choice of beers to be fair, and it is cheaper than the surrounding pubs, but your pint isn't always top notch. I took one back a couple of weeks back as it was undrinkable and the barman just looked at me as if to say 'what do you expect'? So cheap and sometimes cheerful, depending on your mood and that of the staff, but sadly, to me anyhow, this branch and a couple of others like it are bordering on becoming nothing more than a McDonalds with beer type establishments.

Get ya coffee machine fixed! One machine for busy mornings is not enough! Queue for fifteen mins behind people with five cups it’s not fair
