Lovely old pub in the centre of Beverley. Now run by Wetherspoon, so excellent value as usual

Just have to say the staff in this pub today were wonderful. The guy serving behind the bar was happy cheerful efficient and above all made everyone feel welcome. The guy had full beard and wore black rimmed glasses. I sat by the bar and he was just constantly a nice guy to all customers. My food was served quickly and was a decent standard Thanks for the experience.

Popped to Beverley today to have some breakfast with my partner and went to the bar to order the food rather than the app, and ordered a Small American Breakfast and a large breakfast with a couple of drinks. The lady at the bar (Emma was the name on the till) had taken my order, she seemed extremely busy as she was also serving a couple of other customers at the same time, and as I paid she passed my drinks to me and walked to finish the other customers order off, so no receipt was given. Food then arrived 20 minutes later to be served a normal small breakfast rather than a small 'American' breakfast. So my partner went up to the bar to mention that the order was wrong and she was told not a problem we will rectify it and they took her plate away. A few minutes later the bartender who originally took the order at the bar came over to the table, and then started an argument with myself over the order that was placed. We was seated in an area full of other customers and whilst I was trying to eat my breakfast the bartender started saying in a really rude and unprofessional manner how I was in the wrong over the order that I had placed, but must of misheard me, which is fair enough, mistakes happen and she was quite busy whilst taking the order, but she proceeded to argue with me and out right lie to my face and the other customers that she read the order back to me, which clearly wasn't the case. The tone and manner which she did this in is outright unacceptable, and even others reacted to this when she left at how unprofessional that was. The problem was resolved by another member of staff who was really polite to us, but it's like she went out of her way just to come across to our table to start an argument? Will not put me off going to other wetherspoons as the food is always ok, but will never step foot in there again due to this.

Fantastic pub. Only thing spoiling it is all the young people that can’t handle drink & cause havoc with disruptive behaviour & making the toilets a health & safety mess with sick everywhere & fixtures pulled off the wall. We were all young, but this is going way to far & they are doing nothing about it.

One of the worst spoons . Tables are too crowded together. Obviously understaffed. I waited so long for a breakfast it was lunchtime. Muffin either over cooked or stale like cardboard. Sliced apples had a strange vinegar taste . No indication if you ordered on the app of delay in food. Also cups are not brought to your table which you wouldn't know by app. Asked the sole waitress and she self self service end of the bar. Asked her again later where our food was. To be told 45 minute wait on food. No apologies not polite nil points for customer service.

This is the best Spoons I have been to so far.

In the summer we sit in the secluded garden at the rear and in winter there is a log fire. The building is a little boring outside but the inside is really nice. Where else can you get a meal and a pint for these prices. Staff are always good though somewhat over worked.

Great pub in the town centre. Ideal for catch ups and meetings as well food. We were having a quick drink before lunch - it was quiet but that was expected for a Sunday lunchtime. We then popped in after lunch for a coffee - always good for this too! Staff were friendly and polite and always nice to come here.

We eat at least once a week at the Cross keys in Beverley. We have been doing it since it opened and it's always a pleasure to see Emma there, she is always friendly professional and very hard working.

Great customer service. Staff helpful when we had queries on the menu and cleared out table quickly and happily when we asked (as it needed freshening up after we spilt a drink).

Been a local for many a year. It can get busy, but Will behind the bar always serves with a smile on his face.

The food wasn't great. There didn't seem enough staff and many tables needed clearing. It was a bit disappointing.

Cosy after a hike, with a lively Saturday afternoon atmosphere, and comfortable seating areas. Table service was excellent (Heather was quick and friendly). Didn't have food so can't rate that.

Potions were paltry , burger was so overcooked, lacked the advertised tomato. Waiting staff were brusque and uninterested. Only the satisfactory dessert saved the experience.

Just been redecorated good food good beer good atmosphere. Update on Sunday 9 Feb 25. Had breakfast after a night stay in Beverly. The food was nice but not hot, only one coffee machine was working .

It's a spoons. A slightly limited one in terms of selection (didn't have kopparberg on tap). But comes with the benefits of being a spoons, lowest prices and packed even on a lunch time. But there's so many other pubs about Id recommend exploring the others

Visited today and was presented with a few customers standing at the bar politely queing. I was about the 5th in this queue. The bar was being operated by one person who was clearly doing his best to serve the growing queue. After a while I presume the Manageress came along and instructed the queuing crowd to stand along the bar which made a mockery of all those customers that had been orderly and politely queuing. She then started to serve ignoring various customers that should have been her priority as they had queued . I had now been waiting 15 minutes and was still being ignored. She was passing by behind the bar in order to get something and looked at me and a couple of other customers that had remained where the queue was and smercked. Not a smile but a sarcastic smirk! Terrible customer service. I decided to leave the establishment before I told her what I thought of her attitude. ( OBVIOUSLY I would have been in the wrong for assuming it was polite and appropriate to queue?)

I like the Cross Keys especially this time of year when there's a log fire burning.

After recently visiting this Wetherspoons we were not impressed. We have been to the crossed shuttle 3 times and each time the tables were full of used crockery and glasses ,uneaten food . We visited recently on Saturday 26th Jan . We were queuing 20 mins at the bar for a drink .When food arrived the burgers were burnt and hard.We have visited over 300 of your pubs and never have had this problem before .Beverly is a popular area for visitors who sought out The crossed shuttle ,but many were leaving because of the wait . I went to Weatherspoon's in Beverley last Sat 25th Jan to try one of their Haggis suppers for Burns night. This was the first time I have had a full meal in this establishment & I was not disappointed. The Haggis was cooked in true Scottish style with the usual extras included, i.e. Neeps & Tatties. However, I did have a disappointment on arrival, as the table I had booked (23) was not made available, & no reserved card displayed as I was promised, only to be told that the pub do not take table bookings. Anyway, despite the fact that the pub was becoming quite busy by that time, which was around 6.30pm, the manager, Nick I think he was called, acted very quickly & straightaway found me another table in the window, so thank you to Nick for his speedy action.

Nice place with a couple of fires, very cosy. Been plenty of times but breakfast needs slight improvement. I don’t expect gourmet food but it could at least be hot enough. Hash browns hold their heat well, but even those sometimes are lukewarm. Tomatoes usually solid and barely cooked. Bacon needs to be crispy….nobody likes squidgy fat on bacon! Good value, nice atmosphere and most of all a very warm comfortable place to sit with a drink. Please just improve breakfast slightly. Thank you

I visit most mornings the staff are a credit always extremely friendly and polite. Over the years I have visited countless wetherspoons and have to say the interior is one of the best up market country pub vibe with open fires to boot . Always extremely clean and tidy. The prices in this venue are very reasonable even with its location. Can't fault the venue or the staff

Really bad service some nights. Staff are miserable and serve u with a disgusted look. Managers are the worst and don’t even manage to get ice in drinks most the time. Dreadful brunch here today. 1 hour wait, two rashers of bacon that had been in the oven so long they were grey, dehydrated and rock hard. Asked where the drinks were told we had to go to the bar to get our cups? What's the point in table service using the app? Waited 10 minutes at the bar for 2 cups, then joined the queue for the coffee machine which by the time I got there was empty. Waited for the staff member to refill it. In the meantime my partner complained to staff about the bacon. Told to take the meals back to the bar for a refund. Then asked to see a manager. Rejected the now flat cold meals and asked for a refund.

No music but great cheap booze, great starter place for a night out😝

Staff were busy but smiley and although it took a while for service the beer is good, the coffee bottomless and the breakfast we had did exactly what it needed to do…fill us up for the rest of the day. The smashing of bottles is a bit off putting, I feel sorry for staff who will be deaf before they are thirty!

went in for lunch after a shopping trip, served by lovely young lad called Alex, very helpful and sweet. food came quickly and was so good! 10/10

Probably the best in East Yorkshire, almost definitely my favourite. Staff seemed helpful and friendly too, never had a bad experience in this one.

was there today wednesday lunch time and was very busy and the 2 staff on behind the bar and serving food /drinks/and sorting tables and coffee machines plus having a problem of there delivery been late and no produce for certain meals they coped so well and very professional in all they did the length of the waiting que was some times long but was soon cleared with minimum fuss and no body getting irrate so i did mention to them how well they had done and how i admired there efforts sat enjoying my brew i hope they see this review as i did say i would put one on for them xx

We enjoy a drink in the Cross Keys,the beer is always spot on and and cheap at £1.79 a pint on a Wednesday it is a regular meeting place for us,friendly atmosphere,the staff are always friendly,but must give special credit to Kayleigh who is very pleasant and efficient and a credit to the company..Ken,Norman and Dave and the rest of the gang

Im 17 and i was denied my food and denied my refund after i couldnt prove my age. Was spoken to with zero respect. Do not come here as the service is extremely poor.

Great place for a good value meal. Steak chips glass of wine £14. Steak cooked as l asked rare 😋 really tender what's not to like.

Went here recently for a friends birthday, as we went on a day out to Beverley, and had possibly the most vile experience i have ever had in an establishment. Upon sitting down (the restaurant was packed, signage to alternative seating areas was unclear and in order to get to the outside area we had to uncomfortably squeeze past people who were already seated and eating, for anyone with limited mobility, this would be impossible to navigate, not to mention the lack of an accessible entrance). We finally found a table and sat down, it is important to note that in a group of 5, 3 of us are 17 and 2 of us are 18. We placed our orders, and a very rude staff member came out demanding ID from everyone at the table, we were confused as no one ordered any alcohol or age restricted product, simply food such as chips, and drinks such as pepsi and juice. We were all told the staff member we did not order anything that warranted ID, she then stated that we all needed to be 18 to even enter the establishment, this was not signposted anywhere, and i checked as we entered, just to be sure, as some pubs do have such rules, and being a law student, i ensure i check such rules, and they need to be clearly signposted or told to you by staff upon entry, so not only was this unlawful, but a flagrant rejection of wetherspoons corporate policy, who's rules state that anyone over 16 can enter without parental supervision, and some wetherspoons establishments only turn into an 18+ venue after 9pm. We were in this venue at around 4-5pm, and there were young children at the table next to us, so this was clearly untrue. This was after we had ordered and this extremely rude staff member was subtly hinting at kicking us out, which would have resulted in a loss of our money, luckily, one friend who was 18 produced ID, and the rest of us stated we did not have any. The staff member said in a rude tone she would check if one ID was enough, and flounced away, she was not seen again, leaving us in horrible suspense for a while, not knowing if we would get what we paid for or be ejected illegally. Eventually another staff member came out with the (once again non alcoholic) drinks and demanded ID again, to which the same friend produced it, after a strange check (it seemed both staff members were trying to find any excuse to kick us out, as they seemed overly critical of his ID, despite it being a genuine provisional drivers licence), but he eventually handed them over. We were asked yet again that evening, but you can imagine the story now i have explained it twice. When the food came, we were shocked and appalled by the poor quality, obviously no one goes to wetherspoons for high quality or high class dining, but this took the mick. One friend ordered the nachos, and the portion was tiny. We have dined in several wetherspoons in various towns and cities, including being regular visitors to the one in our hometown, and this portion was nowhere near the standard, and the friend was finished in maybe 5 or 6 mouthfuls. Another member of our party ordered the "big cheesy chips" and a chicken burger. There was barely any cheese to be found on top of these chips, and was was present was dry and unpleasant to eat, the chips were extremely soggy and the cheese that had melted onto the plate was not just damp but wet, to levels that cannot be attributed to normal condensation. The chicken burger was extremely artificial and tasted of chemicals, the taste itself could be likened to lip balm. The chips also came with a blue cheese dip, which had the consistency of water, and a washed out, gone off colour, paired with a horrific taste. Another member of our party ordered a regular burger, which was also small and unpleasant, it was clear we had clearly been given sub-par food dye to the ID altercations. I will never dine here again due to the combination of rude staff, illegal and random "rule" inventions, and an overstimulating environment, and as a warning to anyone reading this, DO NOT DINE HERE

If you're looking for a decently priced meal and drinks in Beverley, then this is probably the place to go. You know what you're getting with wetherspoons, well it's cheap and cheerful or sometimes maybe not so cheerful. This place always seems very busy and sometimes the service is quite slow. Food is hit and miss but that's the same for most in the chain. There is an open fire in one of the rooms which is nice though! Also the toilets are fairly clean. Not the easiest place to navigate if you are disabled or have a buggy as it's quite cramped trying to get around tables, and there are lots of little steps to get into and out of different sections. Also it's not accessible from the front, you have to go down and alley way and ring a bell and wait for someone to let you in.

I am gluten intolerant. Kai was very helpful with finding menu choices for me. They have a tablet on the end of the bar that takes allergen information and shows available menu choices. That is the best method that I have seen. Very impressed with it and Kai's helpfulness

We popped in with a friend, the three of us had a late lunch and a drink for 28 pounds. The place is in good condition and was busy, the service was good and the food good for the price

I've always gone here growing up, something's have changed. But something's haven't. The drinks prices are very reasonable, the service is adequate, but I have never eaten here, that's not a judgement I just never have, so a review would be unfair.

When there and spent £25 but the app when down and they still took the £25 but the food and drinks did not go though. When we asked about this we was told the money will come back to us but I was taken out . We went in to ask how to get the money back and the manager was rude and didn’t listen and kicked us out for asking for our money back. DON’T GO useless you want to lose your money

Every time we visit here they are short staffed , management must be a joke , long wait for food and drinks especially when ordered via app.worst spoons ever visited.

Nipped in for a beer whilst out shopping in Beverly. It's a little difficult to find as it's on the next street back from the market. It's a bit like Dr Who's Tardis, looks small from the outside, but it's not, its massive inside. Lots of the usual spoons drinks on offer, plus lots of real ales on the bear festival menu. Toilets were of course, upstairs!

We enjoyed our breakfasts on the 2 days we were in Beverley This is a nice pub with open fires and plenty of tables and seats On the occasions we visited, the pub was clean and we were served rather quickly I do think this pub is understaffed and credit goes out to those who were working on our visits Monday and Tuesday 28/29 Oct

Called in this morning for a quick small breakfast, we've been here lots of times so know what to expect,but today was the worst, the floors were sticky to walk on and we were there just gone 8 am so can't blame beer spillage. The tables were sticky,my husband picked up the menu and had something stuck to his fingers from it, Ordered an egg muffin and beans on toast. The beans on toast was disgusting. The toast was wet,like it had been in touch with water,it was soggy and cold,beans just slapped on,very unappetising.egg muffin was hard. Keep giving it a chance,but not anymore. Absolutely horrible

The Cross Keys is a traditional pub, a typical Wetherspoon's. On this visit we both chose a traditional breakfast and coffee (which you get from a self service coffee machine). It was all very nice at a reasonable price. Update today's breakfast was poor; the toast was barely toasted, the bacon was underdone and everything was luke warm apart from the beans which were as cold as if served straight from the tin. Very disappointing compared to the usual standard. No one came to our table to ask if everything was okay so maybe they already knew!

The Cross Keys is a really good Wetherspoons and this pub is wonderful inside Food was good and absolutley great value, lots of cheap drinks, lots of drink choices and nice staff

Enjoyed the meal. Beef and kidney pudding. Pastry a little hard on the top. Good chips and satisfying mushy peas. Loads of good coffee. Gary enjoying his Southern fried chicken strips. Looking forward to our free second cup.

Food was ok. The service was terrible. The waitress was rude and argumentative to one of the people in our party. The other person ordered a dessert and waited almost an hour after ordering it on the app then also went to the bar to check in it. Not what I expected from a Weatherspoons. Tables were filthy and sticky. Never again will we go back there. Worst service ever

The food was absolutely delicious and very high quality. The beers were amazing and very affordable. The ambiance was amazing too and we really enjoyed ourselves. 100% review this pub restaurant and encourage everyone to go and give it a try.

The service in this place is like the weather you never know from day to day whether it's going to be good or bad.

Not too busy on a Sunday around 1 pm but the Bar was busy so I tried to order on the Wetherspoons app but couldn't get a wifi signal to order ! and gave up after 10 mins. Plates left uncleared nr table 41 was poor, so with less than an hour to catch my bus back to Hull I had to forego my mixed grill and have it later in Hull. This pub could be 5 stars across the board and oozes character with better wifi and more staff

Surprisingly nice with a friendly atmosphere and good service. Search out the original painting (photo attached) which is remarkable and read the description of it to fully understand what it’s truly about. Thanks to bar staff Jack and Ava for making the experience for us and on a couple of occasions turning complaints into compliments. Well done

Called in here on a lunchtime and it was fairly quiet which is unusual for a Spoon's.The food was OK but the service was indifferent, they brought the food before the drinks which it should have been the other way round,definitely room for improvement.

My waitresses (dianna) was amazing as always , she is polite , very lovely and really friendly, this made our experience so much better , she really deserves employee of the month , always see her running around always smiling , our food was delivered fast and hot , service with a smile is always pleasant.

Very bad, we had to wait a long time for our food to come after ordering. The hot drinks station was very dirty. When our food finally came the children’s meals were cold and ours slightly warm barely hot. Asked for the pizza remaking and it arrived back 10 minutes later soggy after being microwaved to death. We usually go to Driffield Wetherspoons which we cannot fault and have never had a bad meal. Will never come back to Beverley spoons again it was that poor.

It's a spoons, so cheap beer and average dinner ding. What kills this place is the unprofessional arrogant management. You only need to read local FB forums like Beverley Moan to appreciate how bad they are. Area management needs to jog them on and hire professional staff. One recent event was I attend the place with my two 22 year old daughters who had ID and my 27 year old son (who obviously didn't). The manager took his drink away and banned us from ordering again. Not politely, not willing to accept a photo of his passport, just no. My son doesn't normally drink, so was embarrassed and put off by this treatment. We went to Green Dragon afterwards ands he was welcomed.

Best pub in Beverley 😀 very clean and tidy with a great selection of ales and food all reasonably priced . Very poor real ale selection, duty manager NOT customer friendly, waiting far too long to be served.There is something fundamentally wrong with this pub, just can't put my finger on the problem.Have visited over a hundred of wetherspoon pubs but this one is one of the worst for service.

Chaotic. Food and drink doesn't arrive (because tables have been 'moved'). Handpull drinks are wrong (ipa comes out as stout). Rough as hell, too big for too few staff.

We were told that it was dog friendly and it was if you want to eat outside, luckily for us it was a rain free day so be warned its outside dog friendly and 30 minutes for a burger and chips when there was hardly any one there, think 3 stars is generous, shame...

Went in with two of my friends order our food only to get ID and for them to tell us we couldnt eat there. We had already paid for our food and there were no signs outside the wetherspoons explaining we couldnt eat there. They then proceeded to tell us we could get out food but wasnt allowed to eat inside and would have to get takeout boxes and leave.

Typical 'Spoons but also a friendly, welcoming place. Had the buttermilk chicken burger which was moist,tasty and hot with a pint of San Miguel, can't go wrong for just over £9.

Came with my teen for tea on the way home from a day out. Ordered on app so I could stay with my autistic teen. All drinks were quickly dumped in front of my teen and server disappeared before I got chance to say mine was wrong (totally different in appearance/colour but server announced it as correct drink). Went to bar to ask for it changing. The area was busy but there was only one other customer stood at the actual bar when I arrived so I stood to his right. The male bartender was taking his time chatting to him and by the time he'd finished two other men had arrived and stood on the left hand side of the customer stood next to me. The bartender clearly knew both men, started chatting to them and asked who was next out of the two men, I piped up that I'd been waiting longer, and the bartender disagreed and told me to wait my turn, while acting as a bystander as his customer was verbally abusive towards me. A female member of staff saw this, and as her colleague started serving the men agreed I was next, said she had made up my drink and said 'yeah, sorry, that's on me' and got me a new drink. Ordinarily I'd have left it at that but the male bartender wouldn't back down, made a show out of tasting my drink, in front of his other customers, was quite patronising, questioning whether this (totally different in colour to what I'd ordered) drink really was incorrect and then asked for my table number because 'I probably did it wrong on the app' (I hadn't). Thanking the female bartender I returned to my autistic son, who by this point was panicking about where I was. The food was also disappointing. My teen always orders the same as he needs consistency. He couldn't eat the mash as it was cold and chewy. I had the Korean chicken which I'd recently enjoyed at another Wetherspoon's but there was very little sauce it was effectively a bowl of chicken and chips. I used the app to complain about my experience at the bar. The manager did contact me and I was told that they were sorry if I 'felt' I was served the wrong drink. Which I thought was interesting use of language as it removes blame from his staff. I was also told that 'CCTV showed the bar was busy'. There was only one other customer there when I arrived and I had made that clear. They clearly need more staff, as far as I could see there was the lady doing the app orders and the young man.

It's a Wetherspoon's so no surprises. A good range of cask ales at cheap prices. Service was a bit slow - too many people queuing at the bar and not enough staff serving. Some of the tables hadn't been cleared or wiped down so I had to wander around to find a clean one. I didn't eat, but you know what to expect if you've been to a Wetherspoon's before.

Asked for a clean cup, was offered a paper one as none were clean. Told "you'll just have to wait 15 minutes" when I requested a none paper cup. Thought the male barman was rude and obviously could not be bothered to help. When I returned after 15 minutes, still no cups, on request they were deposited on an already dirty tray. On my return to my table the food had arrived and was bearly warm. I will avoid this place in the future.
