What a treat to have such a delightful 85th birthday celebration Sunday lunch here. A very friendly welcome, charming, helpful, efficient and understanding staff. The food was delicious. All roasts were tried and with Yorkshire puddings and the amazing selection of vegetables thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the party found room for yummy desserts. We will be back. Thank you.

As a family of 4 with one vegan, we decided to try all 4 roasts on offer - topside of beef, chicken on the bone, pork belly and mushroom pithivier. All were delicious. The vegetable selection was superb (the leeks in cheese sauce was to die for). The vegan mushroom pithivier was a really lovely homemade dish with particularly good pastry. Definitely a class above standard pub grub. And with super-friendly landlord and staff, we’ll definitely be returning … and hopefully we’ll have enough time to sample your pudding selection next time!

We had a fantastic Easter Sunday roast at the Cricketers. The best roast dinner we have had in a long time (verified by all 6 of us), service was excellent and the Apple crumble is out of this world! Highly recommend.. if we lived locally this would be a family favourite! Thank you to all the staff for a job well done 🤩🐣

Had a last minute dinner here and it was great. Service nice and attentive and our chicken burgers were lovely, all freshly cooked and hot. The added bonus was having a nice pint of Langhams Arapaho with the food. Sticky toffee pud outstanding. Our only slight criticism was that the menu could do with a couple more choices like a beef smash burger and perhaps a side Greek salad to go with any of the main courses. Overall would return ..maybe for their Sunday roast!

I took my mother for a belated Mother's Day lunch. At 92, a former chef, she has a small appetite but high standards. Atmosphere, service and food were all faultless. The sun shone, a perfect memory. When a business is this good, it deserves support. I am a beer connoisseur, it ticks that box. What are you waiting for, get some friends together and book. They also have wood fired pizza on Wednesday, Gypsy jazz on Sunday.

A warm welcome, the food was of a very high standard, as we’d been lead to believe, and the ale was top notch too (not to forget the wine) so a classic combination. Family took me here for birthday lunch. Service was terrible. The staff are friendly but they didn't deliver our order on time. 45 mins after apps, they brought out another tables order and placed in front of us, then they came back and took the dishes back and gave them to the other table. Not cool. Took about an hour after that to finally get our meals and they were still short one dish. Food was ok, not great. Apparently no management was in, leaving the running of the restaurant to the rest of the staff.

We had bar snacks, which were freshly cooked and showed a level of care and passion for creating delicious food. The scotch egg was warm with a tasty sausage meat and soft, runny egg while the sausage roll's pastry was crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. Food when home cooked by those who love producing top quality dishes is to be treasured when you find it. Our second visit did not disappoint. The first visit was for lunch which gave us fish and chips which were exquisite. Perfect batter, chips like you’ve never had and minted garden peas. Oh and homemade tartare sauce (mouth is watering again). The tortellini I had used homemade verde pasta, I mean, who has time to make that! Second visit was an overnight stay so had an evening meal which happily coincided with their first ever pizza night (Wednesday). So obviously had to try the pepperoni version. In fact it was the inaugural pizza made in their wood fired pizza oven. Gorgeous. Husband opted for the belly pork meal. To quote ‘it was outstandingly delicious’ and he doesn’t praise restaurant food easily. Breakfast the next morning provided poached eggs on English muffins with bearnaise sauce and spinach. The only issue with that is it was so good (said husband) he wants me to replicate it. Homemade muffins and perfect poached eggs…wish me luck. Thanks again to Huw , Matt and the team and if the chefs are ever in our area could you please pop in. I’ve got a hungry husband who might ditch me so that he can have your cooking to himself!

We visited the Cricketers Inn on a rainy Monday on the way back from The Ageas Bowl and the day England crashed out of the European football. Not surprisingly it was very quiet. However we were made very welcome, the recent refurbishment was pleasing and the tables beautifully presented with lovely linen napkins. My partner thoroughly enjoyed her Malbec and my pint of Flower Pot was as pale and crisp as the bar man suggested. A good start. We asked for some bread to enjoy with the drinks before the meal and a basket of warm bread appeared very quickly which was delicious and which it turned out was not charged for. After a look at the limited menu we opted for the pizza menu having espied the wood burning pizza oven roaring away in the corner. Good decision as they were both excellent and my partner considers herself a bit of a pizza connoisseur. Turns out the chef who we chatted to is Italian. He makes his own dough. All in all a very pleasant experience for a miserable wet Monday. Can't comment on the rest of the menu but the pizza is highly recommended and the beer excellent.

We ate one evening my daughter was visiting as a treat. Arriving at the table all seemed fine. The main meals were very substandard and the dessert horrid, so bad I sent it back. Suppose to be apple pie but looked more like a bowl of porridge. They did replace it for a lemon cheese cake that was very nice. The guy who made our Pizza got a £5 tip as he clearly was run of his feet and the busiest staff member. The main meals were a mess bland in flavour and presentation poor. The only meal any good being the Pizza. My daughters lamb dish well over priced and something of nothing. All in all not a great experience. It seems they are trying to be more fine dining than just a country pub doing good old hearty dishes, but the food clearly not good enough. I have lived in the area for over thirty years and to be honest the cricketers has never been a favourite of ours. Over the years many different owners but none to date really stamping there mark on the place. Something of nothing really. To sum it up bland boring over priced food apart from the Pizza.

I have reviewed this pub twice before because I want it to work and be great as it is my local. Had lunch there today with food from the new chef and it was great! Glad to see sandwiches have been added to the menu and portion sizes have definitely increased which is much better. I feel we got real value for money today and there were no odd combinations like goats cheese and chocolate. Just good honest cooking, well served and fantastic! Please keep up the good work, we all want to see you thrive!

I am regular in the Cricketers, it has a nice atmosphere but can be busy or nearly empty for no real reason, good beer and wine is stocked. The food was truly excellent under the iIalian chef but he has now left and quality has dropped and the quantity increased.

We have visited this establishment on numerous occasions and always been impressed with the standard of the food and, for one poor meal, it is difficult to reappraise what I have written before but this I must after yesterdays evening meal.First of all the good. Good ambience with the lighting/decor and the gentle murmur of other diners. Good and friendly waiting staff albeit a little young but their youthful vigour makes up for their slight inexperience. Good table settings with linen napkins and heavy duty cutlery. Now, unfortunately for the bad. All establishments which serve food are judged by that and I don't know whether they have changed the really good chef who used to be there or whether he was on holiday but the meal we had was a travesty of what we used to receive. My wife ordered a starter of chicken satay skewers and a main of salmon and I ordered the mixed fried fish and liver and bacon. Of these 4 meals only the chicken satay skewers were good. My wife's salmon was marginally acceptable but the fried skin was soggy and very unpalatable. My starter of mixed fish of 1 prawn, 1 scallop, 1 small piece of cod and 1 small piece of salmon was undercooked, especially the scallop. Regrettably, worse was to follow. My liver and bacon which was described beautifully as coming with a jus, had seriously undercooked lambs liver which was almost blue. There was one piece of bacon on soggy mash with indescribable supposedly, small pieces of turnip. The green beans were not trimmed and were also almost raw. All of it was swimming in the blood of the undercooked liver, so even if there was a jus, it was unrecognisable. Naturally the meal was sent back. The waitress was apologetic but when she returned with the meal all that had happened was that the liver had been recooked and now placed on top of the almost cold mash and other ingredients. The recooking could not have taken long as it was still medium rare. This was an absolute apology for a meal with no thought or skill and the placing of ubiquitous pea shoots on top did not compensate for the shoddy meal underneath. We did not stay for pudding or coffee.I write this more in sorrow than in anger as this is another dining establishment around Petersfield that has started well and then fallen into the trap of believing it's own reviews and with higher than normal prices has allowed it's cooking standard to drop.

We had a family lunch at The Cricketers Inn, Steep on Sunday. ..... 15 of us and 4 children under 2. .. booked after looking on trip advisor for restaurants around Petersfield.Great menu choice, family friendly, and given all the time we needed, well after other tables had gone, for our family reunion.Disappointed with the choice of mixed vegetables, and my husband was hoping for roast potatoes, but the food was very good and the service was excellent.I rate good toilets in a restaurant, and these were very good.

The most delicious pizza with friendly and unobtrusive service. The meals were not only delightfully arranged on the plates, but also the perfect amount of food. A very pleasant evening out!

We have been here a couple of times over the past year and have really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere of the pub. This time unfortunately we did not enjoy our experience, the service we incredibly slow and the only member of staff serving at the bar did not seem to have a clue what they sold or what was on the menu. I asked if they had any specials and she looked at the blackboard and said I guess not if they are not on the board. One she should really of found this out before the service started or offered to go and ask the chef. The menu's were printed out on paper and were missing some of the words, which was slightly irritating. The place is lovely and three people on the table had the freshly made pizzas which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was just a shame about the slow service and the lady on the bar not really knowing what she was doing.

Went here with a few friends and had a great meal with good wine. The service and atmosphere was excellent also. It had the feel of an old pub but with the food quality of a restaurant.

Dropped in for an evening meal, the chef came out to discuss what we would like and went through the specials with us. He also offered different ways of preparing to suit our tastes... Very helpful.Lobster and ravioli was brilliant , fillet of pork Wellington outstanding. This coupled with great ambiance, good service and the chef then coming to see that we had enjoyed everything made for a wonderful evening. Well done and thanks... We will be back
