We had a fantastic meal for 6, the food was superb and the staff really friendly and welcoming. It's a proper country pub with a fire and really great food. We will be back again. Between us we tried and good selection of different dishes and they were all perfectly presented and delicious. Such a great find after living in the area for years. Gutted not to have visited sooner.

Really tasty and fresh food. Highly recommend the Mezze platter. It's excellent value for the amount and quality of the dishes. Especially good after a hike over the Downs. I've used all the country pubs just outside Eastbourne and, on balance, this has to be the best. Food was really tasty, well presented, served in a timely manner, and reasonably priced. The gardens were lovely and relaxing and were brilliant for dogs to settle in a quite corner on the grass without being told "dogs not allowed on the grass" (like one country pub we recently visited). This pub also was willing to take cash, when others have gone card only. Most importantly, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Lovely pub with a lovely garden to the front. Food was homemade and mainly good. Had wings, camembert and nuggets to start which were all good, the wings in particular were my favourite. For main we had a special which was pulled pork burger which was amazing, a panini which was just ok and the fish platter which was very large but just ok. Service was great

Lovely garden area. A hot day. There were staff taking orders from the customers in the garden. Drinks and food were very reasonable and served in the garden too. Food was very good. The seafood platter was lovely. This pub has the charm and a lovely location in large servings and we have found a pub absolutely perfect for us. The cost of the food and the quality made me feel that it waa a great find . Staff were excellent and were a major asset to this business. First class five stars all round. A great local pub 👍 Gets very busy, so book ahead. Food was lovely, though going on two different nights had two different versions of Eaton mess. Staff were great as well. However, for one member of staff, asking for a taste (it was only two, haven't had beer from this region before) was tantamount to having a free drink 😨. On the whole a great place and would go again when in the area 🍻🍽👍

Not brilliant guys! Definitely not worth the money we paid. I ordered the filet steak. I asked for no tomatoes or mushrooms but could I have a bigger side salad and coleslaw instead. No coleslaw and the tiny side salad (which tasted gritty like it hadn’t been washed properly) had tomatoes in it!! The steak wasn’t cooked to the specification requested. The peppercorn sauce tasted like garlic - not a peppercorn in sight. For dessert I had the Eton mess which was essentially a load of cream, some fruit and a game of ‘hunt the meringue’. Didn’t finish it as it was essentially cream. The staff were friendly enough. Not super attentive. After our main we asked to pause before looking at dessert and they didn’t bother checking in again, we had to keep going to the bar for drinks and to order dessert. We were sat in the main part by the bar which was pretty warm. No air con or fans provided on a very warm day.

This is a delightful classic British country inn. Reservations for my party of three were made by telephone and on the day our table was waiting. The young staff were friendly and welcoming. The Harvey's beer was in good condition and the menu was comprehensive and thankfully included lighter lunch items and ciabattas. The food was good quality and plentiful. Highly recommended. Furthermore unbeknown to me one of my hearing aids had fallen to the floor and an obliging young lady rushed out into the car park to return the item, which had been found beside our table. Service indeed - and with a smile.

Went yesterday and sat in the afternoon sunshine. What a gorgeous garden. Happy to have dogs and walkers. Unfortunately the food let them down a bit. We ordered nibbles and it was only when chased did they arrive. Less than a minute later our main turned up. Husband ordered the pork special and had a fantastic meal. I ordered the spicy beetroot felafel. Sadly it was pink, bland mush in a crispy outside which broke up immediately upon cutting. Looked more like a burger than a felafel. On the upside the fries were delicious. The waiter did come and apologise for the lack of arrival of the nibbles which I thought was very polite of him.

We discovered this beautiful little gem and booked a table the day before as we planned doing the Bluebell walk, we were not disappointed. What a stunning pub which we learnt was 200 years old. It has a beautiful front garden with blossom tree and a lovely back garden. I had the beef roast dinner and my partner had the pork with the most amazing crunchy scratching. The beef I can safely say was melt in the mouth with a Gorgeous gravy 'jus' , probably the best beef I've eaten in years. It was very busy but can see why now after enjoying their food. The lady in charge was rushed off her feet but still so friendly and thoughtful telling me my food was ready when I was outside and we had a nice chat with her too. Will definitely being going back now we've found this place. 10/10!

Really recommend the roast for quality, quantity and price. The only downside is the potatoes which are a bit chewy, I guess from being cooked and kept warm or reheated but overall the food is really good. On this occasion, after having our roast we waited 20mins for a server to offer desserts, no one came so we asked someone if we could order them. They brought us menus and never returned, another 20mins passed and we gave up. This time going to the bar to ask for the bill as there was no one about to request this either. A table in the same room went to get their bill and another had to get up and ask someone to take their order. There didn't seem to be an issue with staffing as plenty were about when we first ordered and several stuck their head out of the kitchen but never actually came out to speak to the customers. We were a group of 4 and would have ordered more drinks and puddings if someone served us (another £40-50) - instead we went to a supermarket and picked one up for home! Would return but service needs improving.

We love this pub, but such a shame that although I asked twice if we could have some time after the starter before the main, they came out one after another. My husband sat in and talked to locals whilst we had a lovely evening stroll along a footpath from the pub. They were so busy our stroll meant they could squeeze us in a bit later. Should have booked really. Very accomodating excellent friendly service from the Owner and wife. Interested in us although they had so many customers. Bit disappointing to be honest. The food was okay. I think we would have been fine with it if I hadn’t ordered the chocolate torte for dessert not knowing it was vegan as it really wasn’t obvious on the menu. There were six of us eating and we all tried a bit and I have to say it tasted horrible and it really takes a lot for me not to like a dessert! When we complained, the only explanation we got was that it was vegan, as if this justified it tasting nasty. It was brought back in, but nothing was done, no apology, no explanation and no offer to remove the price from the bill. In my books, that’s not great customer service . Sorry!
