The Crescent in Newtownabbey

A real shame as this used to be a brilliant chippy. Quality of food is still good although not quite what it used to be and quite expensive. However the biggest issue is the staff, rude, obnoxious and make mistakes with orders fairly regularly and make no apology when this is pointed out. Unfortunately this is a trend of the last few years and tongiht I felt the need to review after yet another encounter with an ignorant staff member.

Poor. Portion sizes terrible. Food wasn't bad. 7.50 for 8 pieces of scampi with not even a handful of chips lol small chip was very small. Had to get food after this. Never again no thanks.

Got chicken burger and gravy cheese chip the chicken burger was disgusting im sorry but I have to be honest, you could of throw it against a wall was rock hard. The gravy cheese chip we ended up thrown the whole order in the bin. This is worst food I've ever had.

Kids meal was awful...chips were hard and gravy was not good and staff looked mesable

Have never eaten here before but after getting terrible food at Maloney’s chip shop a few times I decided to try. Fish looked as if the batter was painted on. It was soft and the fish inside was steaming hot and so tender. I can honestly say it was up there with the best fish I’ve ever eaten. Chips were outstanding and so good! I got a carton of peas which looked terrible {pale and uncooked} how wrong was I ? They tasted amazing, despite looking as if they needed cooked. Now can’t wait for next weekend to get the same again……..amazing, simple amazing food.

Paid for fish and onion rings, £9.40. Refused same as over cooked and tiny. When I said it was smaller than any other chip shop in the area and we wouldn’t be able to share, I was told by the owner that they weren’t meant to be shared. Pensioners should not be expected to pay £14 for two small fish when they are on a tight budget. Humiliating to say the least. Got a terrific deal at the chip yard. Terrible experience and the owner is very rude.

We've used the crescent for about 15 years. Love the food but about 2 out of 3 orders has something missing. Really annoying.

Been to the Chippy a few times, I travel down from Carnmoney as most of the Chippys nearer to me are not great. The Cresent is much nicer food and good service.

Terrible service.. Orders not being checked resulting in Food not placed in bag.. When phone to complain told they could make it fresh or put our name on the board for next time.. Explained that was no good because either someone was going to watch the rest of us eat and have to wait or they would still have to wait and the driver eat his cold.. Don't think they were getting the fact we don't live 2 mins away.. Offer for a refund would have been nice.. Won't be back again

I struggle with the layout no queuing system in place food I good I can't complain about that at all . The Friery in carrickfergus has a ticket system and number is put on TV screen in window to help customers.

Bought chicken burger gougons and chips no taste of gougons they were all batter asked for chicken burger to have just small drop of lettuce and mayo they gave me a fully dressed burger onions, 🍅, lettuce and mayo in the end eat just chicken in batter which was tasteless and only live up street from chippy and chips were cold ànd taste less not worth the money at all

This is an awesome chippy. Everything cooked fresh to order and to perfection. The staff are all super friendly too. The only warning is that this place is a victim of its own success, it is more often than not incredibly busy. But fast food isn't good and good food isn't fast! Well worth the wait.

Worst chip shop about. Twice now they have completely messed up my order an not even made a real attempt at making it right , left it to me to chase them to correct it , an tonight I have placed an order an was told 15 mins to come collect it , an yet 40 mins later still waiting at the shop for food to find out they haven't even cooked it yet , let alone cant even find the order I had placed , a complet joke of a food shop .

Rang a simple chicken burger and fish supper order in for collection. Arrived there 10 mins later only to be told there was no order and they had not taken a call from me. I stressed there was an order placed, explained I had rang 10 minutes earlier and then called out the number I had rang to the staff. One of the three ladies behind the counter told me the number I quoted was in fact the Crescent chippy at Fernagh and sent me there to collect the order. When I arrived at Fernagh I was met with a blank stare. One of the staff told me the number I had rang was indeed the Crescent in Monkstown. That can only mean the girls in Monkstown lied to my face about not recieving any order and the number I rang being the Fernagh chippy. Not only that, they sent me on a wild goose chase to pick up a bogus order at Fernagh. I would have been a regular customer at the Crescent in Monkstown but won't be anywhere near the place again. The customer service is abysmal.

He's a bit tight with give you a couple of chips with your fish

Tried for 20 mins to make a phone order Then went round to order had to tell girl order four times ...food greasy ,chips hard wouldn't be back

Absolute disgrace, £8.40 for a fish supper. Fish is the size of a fish finger. Worst fish supper I've ever had. Not to mention that they forgot part of my order. Nicer places in the area.

Normally very good...Got a Chicken burger last week and I have to say..it was very small and over cooked..has put me off to be honest 🙆

So sick of it never being open....supposed to stay open until 9pm. Just away and it is closed again at 8.20pm......if your going to keep closeing early maybe you could change the web site and lets us know., cos I checked it and it says 9pm and thats why I went. Wasted journey again.

Best fish and chips in Newtownabbey

Food is always lovely although my sister was in today and was given the wrong order, she realised once she had opened the package and seen it was a wrap. When she took it back the same order (the one my sister had touched) was given to the man who owned it, who had just arrived. I believe this issue should maybe be sorted due to the current pandemic, Covid-19. Although this is my only issue, the food is usually great quality!

Well this used to be my local every Friday but hardly been here for 2 years due to slimming world but lost want I needed to lose and well it didn't disappoint. Batter was cooked to perfection and cod was so white.

Was good a very long time ago! My opinion is it's went down hill! I've stopped going because I would order stuff and your lucky if you get it all! They always forget stuff! And this happen to me at lest 3 times! So I stopped going

Some of the best chips from a chippy I have tasted and this goes for both Cresent chip shops.

Great fish and chips, very tasty. Highly recommend however you can be busy with long waits at times and no apparent queueing system!

My favourite chippy in monkstown. Fish is always beautiful and the prices are fair for the quality. No funny tasting oils and the burger selection is to die for! My son also tells me the chicken strips are highly recommend.

Called here at lunch time and was good value for money. Would eat here again.

This is a really good fish and chip shop. In my opinion out it's the best one locally.

Attracted by the hygiene rating and a menu with a good selection as well as one or two useful comments I visited this take away on 20 June at 7pm - according to the website a busy time. However there was no queue and a speedy service was offered. The chips which were announced as 'the best' on the website did not remotely reflect what I was served. The chips were warm (just about) but had obviously been cooked quite a time before I arrived. So I got home with semi-cold dregs from the bottom of chip bin - a waste of my time and money - I would be embarrassed to serve them if I worked there.

19 mins waiting time clearly overcooked batter cod 2nd week in row very much poor quality all about repeat busn not rocket science cook fish in hot fryer lift out when cooked not clearly overdone fryer must spend time watching not floating about poor can only improve
