The 5 star bit - the decor, the space, the layout, the cleanliness, the quirkiness The 4 star bit - the staff's friendliness, the prices and selection of what is on tap ONLY. The 3 star bit - The knowledge of the staff, friendly but no/little knowledge of the vast selection. The 2 star bit - The prices on cans and bottles. Some of the highest I've seen, probably the highest. Pretty much across the board. (I own a beer shop so have a very good idea of all, at cost/retail/service). Stick to what's on draught and save an absolute boat load. Seriously, so expensive!! I didn't eat there, but the food looked good. Overall, the layout and style is what boosts this place up.

Visited in August 2024. The pub has a very wide range of bottled beers and ciders and a smaller range on tap. Price for 2 bottles of J20, pint of Keswick Bitter, and a cider on tap came to £14.40. Food wise, we had 3 chilli dogs and a sharing portion of veggie chilli nachos. Thumbs up all round for taste and value. The pub isn't the biggest, but the owners have made a good job of fitting in as much seating as they can (downstairs and upstairs) without it feeling too cramped. Note that the toilets are upstairs. The music being played is loud enough to hear but not so loud to be intrusive, and it's clear the owners have good taste (good selection of rhythm and blues and soul). The only negative experience we encountered was that there was around a 10 minute delay between being served the first 2 meals and then the remaining 2 meals. However, what I can confirm is that if I lived in Keswick, then I'd likely make The Crafty Baa my local. Overall, it was a lovely pub.

Great little bar with seating upstairs and down. It can get busy especially on a weekend or if they have a musician on but you can book a table. 8-10 beers and ciders available on tap at the bar but fridges full of cans and bottles from all over. The cans and bottles I found to be a little pricey. Always worth popping it, funky interior design.

We shared a cheese and meat board as a starter between 6 and it was really well portioned. I can see it definitely being enough for a couple to share as a main meal. Generally enjoyed it although found it odd that we got one tiny bit of brie but a lot of the smoked cheese so perhaps try to be a bit more balanced with the cheese selection? A few of our group got chilli nachos or a chilli dog. I personally didn't rate the chilli, it didn't seem particularly fresh, gave me defrosted vibes. Chorizo nachos were really good though. Good prices and portions and I'd most likely return if I was in the area. Table wasn't properly clean and I never like when you can see the years of food and grime between the wooden slats. Gives me nausea. Please do better there!

I absolutely love this bar but it's changed in the last six months... they used to do free snacks however don't any more. Fair enough they are not obliged to. How ever I recently found out that if you are not local then everything is 15% more expensive. Lots of people come there who are on holiday and a tourist tax is not fair. It's a real shame because I feel like I don't want to go there anymore. Sorry 😔 Never tried food hence the one star always looks good

site_logo

Nikki Blake . 2024-02-08

15% discount if your local...shame as this place is good but like a lot of places in Keswick is in danger of losing out of town customers who help fund the town... Pretty soon Costa, wether spoons, Greggs will rule it's mostly pizza and burgers now in the town anyway you can get that anywhere... The bar is great but is insulting to mark the prices up so much when a lot of people still come as they genuinely love the town but if you don't feel welcome don't spend your money which you likely earned the same as anyone else there is no discrimination at wetherspoons... To summarise the place is good, the beer is good but value your customers (all). If you did I'd give you 4 stars.

Quirky eclectic bar. Huge beer selection Staff were friendly enough but had no knowledge of the beer they were serving to the level that all bottles had a number sticker on that corresponded with the beer list on the wall. Very poor & a bit of staff beer training wouldn't be too much trouble. The nail in the coffin was the prices unbelievable - probably more expensive than any airport bar or city pub I've visited. Foe example, Belgian Gulden Draak was £11.50 a bottle - Lidl is selling the same for £12 for a box of 6 bottles. I'd recommend walking directly across the road to the Wetherspoon's where many of the same beers are sold much much cheaper.
