The Cow Shed Bar & Grill in Thanet

Second time to the Cow Shed as the first time was great. We were disappointed this time around… dry chips, wait times were fairly long but the real off putting thing was the quiz night! I didn’t realise it was on when I booked. We fancied a quiet meal to celebrate our anniversary to be met with the sounds of buzzers, cheers and flushing toilet sounds!! It was really off putting and was such a shame to what was a great experience the last time we came.

Had an absolutely shocking experience here in Saturday 3rd May for what was supposed to be a lovely celebration for our wedding anniversary. We had pre-booked our table for 7pm...got there 10mins early and was told our table wasnt ready but we could have the table in the window which is right next to the bar and the front door or we could wait for our table as they were just having puddings so wouldnt be long and we could have a drink outside whilst we waited. Ok, dont mind waiting for a little bit but when you book you you are clearly told you have basically 90mins to eat your food and get out! Heater outside didnt work and after 40mins of waiting outside we was absolutely freezing! Table was eventually ready after us having to ask if the table is ready as again no one came out and apologised for the delay. Fortunately we had pre ordered our food whilst outside so it would be quicker when we did eventually get our table. I had to order a coffee to warm myself up and I'm never cold! Got told the camambert cheese was not available but the waitress highly recommended the Texas style garlic and rosemary fire bread with a cheese dipping sauce so we thought ok we will go for that....absolute disaster! I have no other way of dressing this up but to say it was simply white medium bread (probably from local co-op)...3 slices cut into triangles and soaked in olive oil with a tiny pot of melted cheese all for the cost of £10.50! It was soggy and lifeless. I have honestly never seen anything like it in my life. What on earth was texas style about that?! If my blood sugars werent so low i would have walked out at that point. The table next to us ordered the cow shed pate....again medium white sliced bread with what can only be described as the emoji poo dumped on the side, it looked truly awful. I said to my husband, perhaps the main will be better...NO wrong again! I ordered the Louisana 1/2 chicken and my husband had the Chicago rack of ribs...both our chips were cold and his were under the ribs! We told the waitress but didnt really seem to care. No manager came and saw us at that point either. The chicken was smothered in a sour cream which would have been better on the side in a separate dish as it became too sickly. The onion rings were huge but again cold so were inedible. Drinks were very expensive too and for a local restaurant you are certainly not going to last long in todays world! Upon payment, the waitress asked if everything was ok and I said no not really and explained the issues but she just shoved the card in the machine and took payment! Again didnt really give a toss and couldnt be bothered to tell the manager. I dont normally write reviews but we are both so disgusted by this experience, we felt we have to let others know before considering this place. All in all for just short of £90 for a meal for 2 its pretty terrible Cow Shed Birchington and if you do not take notice of your customers you will shortly find yourselves out of business! Shame on your staff (including what you are calling the chef who will be the downfall of your business) and the management for not taking ownership.

We visited the Cow Shes last night as a family of four for dinner. We ordered our drinks, which came out in time and then ordered our food. We waited about 30 mins for our starters (just burned toast really with a cheese sauce). Then we waited another hour for our mains to come out. We asked twice when our food was going to come out, and met with replies of “it won’t be long” and “they’re plating yours up soon”. During this time we had to call the waitress over to order more drinks and then call them again to clear all the empty bottles and glasses from the table. When the food eventually came out, it was okay, but definitely nothing to get excited about…the burgers were very dry and wouldn’t have been edible without the sauces. We wanted to leave due to the length of time it took for our food to come out, but it was late and we were all very hungry. To add insult to injury, we asked for a quiet table, and were sat next to an incredibly noisy table, where we had to ask the parents to please turn down Peppa Pig on their children’s iPad, we couldn’t even talk to each other due to the volume. We spoke to the waitress and the owner about the length of time our food was taking to come out. We were told they were understaffed as they didn’t realise how busy it was. (There were only 2 other tables when we arrived). I did notice though that they were exceptionally busy with take away, which seemed to be going out quickly, obviously this affected the timing of serving customers in the restaurant. Due to the awfully long wait for food, the shoddiness of not offering any drinks whilst waiting and having to request that they remove empties from our table, we will not be returning. Nice enough people, but the wait for the dry food really messed up our evening.

Lovely good plenty of gluten free options too.

I have been to the cow shed several times now and I would highly recommend it. Great service great food. Best fish and chips and steaks I have had anywhere as well as generous portions. I will definetely be back

My family and I spent a very happy few hours at the Cow Shed yesterday (Sun. 9/3) First time I have been there, but will certainly won't be the last. First of all the atmosphere is welcoming with good vibes. The staff can't do enough for you and the food was delicious. Big portions, you won't be hungry when you leave. Good selection of food too. There is a lovely courtyard at the back, with nice seating and ambience. They also seem to have lots of theme events. I really recommend you give it a go. You certainly won't be disappointed.

Myself and my partner go out for dinner quite often and we saw this place online and thought we would give it a try, what a treat we both had the burgers and let me tell you, They were great! But I have to say our server we asked her name as she was so attentive , Emily, even with a busy restaurant she managed to give lots of information on the menu and drinks and from start to finish was excellent and very attentive! Will definitely be back! Thank you cow shed for an excellent evening!

I’ve visited The Cow Shed multiple times now and it never disappoints!!! The service is so warming and welcoming and the waitresses are always so attentive. The food that follows is incredible, the varied flavours on the menu are great for me and my family and everything is cooked to perfection!! You can tell a lot of time and passion went into the meals, definitely my go to restaurant…

Visited the Cow Shed and I have no words other than perfection! The service was impeccable and they always made sure I had everything I needed when being served, checking if I needed any more drinks, any condiments etc. The food was amazing, such brilliant flavours and the staff were so informative about the menu and recommendations! I definitely recommend this restaurant especially with the soon re-opening of the “Udder Bar”, which is perfect for pre-dinner drinks or even after dinner! Lovely little restaurant and can’t wait to revisit!

Had a roast here few times now my favourite by far the lamb and belly pork is to die for, Lilly very friendly and service amazing by all waitresses 10/10

Visited for lunch today and was amazing by not only the food and how great it tasted, but also the lovely service that accompanied it. Staff are so friendly and welcoming here and really make sure that your visit is worthwhile and meaningful. The classic burger was fantastic not to mention how delicious the side of mac and cheese was!! Thoroughly recommend to anyone debating coming here!! It is amazing.

Absolutely amazing!! I ordered a Ribeye steak Medium Rare and it was cooked to perfection! I’m normally very picky on how my steak is cooked, can’t have it too rare but not too medium but the lovely waitress understood exactly how I wanted it, and the Chef aced it! The atmosphere was amazing, dim, mood setting lighting with great music to set that American Cowboy theme! 🤠 I was very full up but the desserts were tempting and gave in and got a sticky toffee pudding to takeaway! Which I must add was delicious! After paying I was told and shown around their “Udder Bar” which is soon to open up as the weather gets warmer. What a hidden gem! Amazing area for parties and pre drinks before dinner. Once again, thank you for having me amazing service, amazing food and amazing atmosphere. Definitely bringing family and friends here soon!

Visited with my very fussy ASD little boy for the 1st time today and was not disappointed! Friendly and welcoming service on arrival, fantastic kids meal deal - drink, main and dessert for just £10! He enjoyed everything served and rated it a solid 10/10. Happy 5 year old happy mumma. Will definitely be back again!

We went here last night and all I can say is the food and service was absolutely impeccable, the onion rings are to die for and the steaks were cooked to perfection, I will definitely be returning oh yes I must mention the cocktails 🍸 they were lovely, special mention to Alicia (hope I've spelt that right) who looked after us thank you again 😊

What a fabulous little restaurant that packs a punch. We were a party of 8 and I booked this from Australia via email. The staff were fantastic and very flexible. I ordered the pigs in blankets which were glazed it honey they were perfection. I ordered the Sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked with bone marrow jus and smashed potatoes. I wish I had room for dessert. Friends ordered the ribs which looked awesome too. Excellent night excellent food thank you. We will be back in August.

I ate at the cowshed last weekend. The staff were very accommodating as I hadn't booked. The food was plentiful & very tasty, of a good quality. Sadly we were sat over the cellar door where the freezing draft shot up our legs, so we moved to the next table. I felt the radiator and it was off. I did ask for it to be put on. I was explained to that the temp had reached its limit so it had switched off. Eventually it came on, unfortunately it was a little too late. We were chilled to the bone. I appreciate the staff are working, therefore do not notice but I dont think it's unacceptable when paying good money for food should it be so uncomfortable. To be honest it ruined our date. As all we talked about was how cold it was. It hasn't put me off this restaurant, but just a heads up to be aware of the temperature when people are sitting still, eating. 🙃

Pretty good. Food was amazing and smoky. It's a little cold inside though. Service was good but it was a little slow. But even though it was slightly slow, it gave me more time to chat with my family. Atmosphere was also pretty good. Would recommend this restaurant and I will be back here

Amazing food, always lovely service. Can tell everyone there is friends and they're equally friendly to customers. They have such a good range of customer events for all different people. Including quiz nights, bottomless brunches, food for everyone (I personally am a very picky eater and I loved my meal) and are very family friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Came here for the Bottomless brunch offer at £40 for food and cocktails/beer (90mins). The food is divine! I don’t even like ribs but they were heavenly 😋 They were really forthcoming with the drinks and you didn’t feel limited. We wizzed our way through all the Xmas themed cocktails. Grinch a firm favourite. The staff really friendly and served us drinks continually. No waiting around. Place has a lovely setup. Lots of other themed nights and events. Highly recommend.

I wish we had looked at other reviews before going for Sunday lunch. The service was fine and Sunday lunch generally good with freshly cooked food. However the bill plus added service charge was a big shock. Nearly double what we would normally pay. Could not ever return again to justify such an overpriced meal.

Ordered the southern fried chicken stack. Chicken and the pulled that came as part of it was lovely however I didn't like the cheese sauce but it till be down to individual taste im sure some will love it. Chunky chips are fantastic. Ihad hoped to sample the amazing sticky toffee pudding but was too full for it so maybe next time.

Well....the Cow Shed smashed it!!! You always know a place is good for a roast when their potatoes and veg are cooked well. The amount of places I've been to where we've been served dried up undercooked veg. We had Christmas dinner here, the meat was tender and not overcooked in the slightest, the potatoes were crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle and the veg was cooked just right for me. The portions were very generous. We also had amazing sausage meat stuffing, big pigs in blankets and delicious cauliflower cheese. Just to top it off the Yorkshire pudding was lovely. We also had a starter and pudding which were tasty. We actually took food home as we were so full. The staff were lovely and friendly. Couldnt do enough for us. My 2 year old niece wasn't happy as she didn't get brought her own plate of food (she doesn't eat loads so shared a bit of everyones). Well the lady realised this and brought her over her own little plate of food and my niece was thrilled. Overall it was a lovely time, brilliant atmosphere and a great Christmas!

We had our Christmas dinner here and would highly recommend. Service was incredible, food was next level and just overall experience was top notch. We've never had Christmas dinner out and this didn't disappoint! 100% would recommend

The menu at The Cow Shed is a masterclass in thoughtful creativity. It’s clear that a great deal of care and passion has gone into curating such an exciting and well-balanced selection of dishes. I opted for the ribeye steak, and it was, without a doubt, one of the best I’ve ever had. Cooked to absolute perfection. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm & cozy creating the ideal backdrop for an evening out. Thank you, The Cow Shed, for a truly memorable birthday dinner with my family. Have been here a few times. Sometimes have had to wait a long time for food, and only one toilet (I think!), but the Sunday roasts are absolutely fantastic. Today's no exception. Vegetables a lovely medley of curly kale, leeks, and then roasted parsnip and carrot. Tasty meat, and roast potatoes, and Yorkshires excellent. Slightly smaller portion than last time, but that meant you actually had a chance of eating it all! Friendly staff. A good visit.

Stop automatically adding gratuity to the bills, you cost your server a decent tip as she was very attentive and food was great. I am getting fed up of being put into the position of accepting an additional charge or having to ask for it to be removed and this time I had enough, asked for it to be removed and did not tip. If you cannot afford to pay your staff properly without putting your customers in this awkward position then put your prices up. Shame because the food was really good.

Service was next level. The lady looking after us (sorry I forgot your name!) was so friendly and looked after us so well. We went for my husbands grandmas 80th birthday and she was treated like a queen! We even managed to win our meal for free! Drinks included. Will defiantly visit again.

Was looking forward to trying this place however mixed thoughts on this one. Menu looks good, but food was mediocre tbh, which was a shame. Ask for the wine list and prices as they are not on the menu and choice is limited and expensive! Service started off great but the main course delivery was a shambles with the server spilling bbq sauce all over two of us and not even realising, when I mentioned it to another server they didn’t seem bothered and I had to ask for serviettes to clear it up - lack of accountability which was a shame. The ribeye was over done and had to go back but was dealt with swiftly and without issue. I did speak to the manager about the bill and our experience which as you can see was mixed and she was very quick to deal with this and put things right which was a positive and much appreciated. Overall not what we were expecting, but the things that were off were put right.

We had a brilliant mid-week meal here - the brisket was delicious, chips were delicious and the service was great! The chance to roll the dice to get the bill FOC was a novelty too - luck wasn't on our side but the price was reasonable for the quality of the food.

had to wait 40 minutes, that wasnt the bad part, the bad part was the staff told me they buy some of the food from ALdi or Tescos ( as the owners want cheap as possible). yes! the food tasted low par. The bacon tasted like cheap bacon, eggs were not good quality in my opinion.

Abba bottomless brunch was an absolute rip off. Put in a small stuffy room where you could barely hear the music with a few blue decorations up. Not what it is sold to be. Food was dry and very expensive for what it was. HOWEVER, staff were fantastic and attentive and worked so hard so my 3 stars are for them.

Good quantity of food but pretty basic and the sauce didn't taste homemade and smothered the dish. Melted cheese was not good quality. Service and staff good. Cleanliness also good.

Banging! New favourite restaurant in Thanet!

Thursday afternoon in August.Dan the owner was very welcoming.We were looking for a bite eat after our walk around oare marshes.The cow shed has a car park so a tick there.It definitely has that shed look but looks can be deceiving.The menu is not complicated or to much choice.The food was excellent I had the cajun chicken and ribs and it's cooked the bbq way and my dining friends had the louisianna Half chicken.We will definitely come back again and share this with friends and family.

Foods over priced and very small portions. For me and another adult it cost us 80 pounds. Wouldn't recommend this place it very overpriced. If I was you I'd go to smoke and co in ramsgate. Alot cheaper and the food is way better. Avoid this cash grab

Very very disappointed by the food, we had a ‘sharing’ t bone but when it came out it was definitely not a sharing size it was on a tiny plate and the presentation was awful, for the price it was nothing special, everything was very salty, the side portion of prawns consisted of 3 salty prawns and that was it. For the price of everything we were very disappointed and wouldn’t go again.

Really lovely food. Location is a bit rubbish, being near a busy roundabout but the food was excellent.

What a fantastic find this place was. All the food was delicious, particularly the steak. My rib eye was cooked perfectly, easily one of the best steaks I've ever had. I hope to visit the area again sometime just so I can come back here.

Absolutely shocking took over 45 minutes for a steak to come out was dry littlery come with steak and chips no egg no peas no salad tbh I've had better food from a wheatsheaf or a weatherspons the servers was decent but food and atmosphere let's ot down well over priced for what you get defonatley won't be returning again I can't work out the prices considering the place is designed out of old scaffolding boards I wouldn't recommend anything tbh I don't like leaveing bad reviews but for what you pay it's absolutely shocking @cowshed Birchington you need to do better

Gone downhill, my daughter was ill all night following her chicken meal and my rack of ribs seemed more fat than meat.

Excellent service, was part of a group booking and had to leave earlier than the group. The staff took my order early and accommodated me perfectly. They were also able to make alcohol free cocktails on request that were off the menu. Really lovely place and also was really clean and nice environment.

Worst customer service ever!!! I ordered an Uber eats and waited two hours and then they cancelled!!! I called up and was told it would arrive well before 7, called again and told it would be so much later! The basic girl on the phone, was unapologetic and rude and basically lied and didn’t own up to telling me it would be much earlier. Don’t care my kids are starving hungry and then she cancelled it. What kind of customer service is this? She needs to get a life and a hobbie! Also the food isn’t even that good for the price .

Pre ordered Sunday lunch delivery today. No call to say lamb was unavailable. Instead app simply cancelled whole order at 3 15pm. Given it's a Sunday and supermarket shuts at 4pm left me with no dinner for my family. A call costs nothing. I accept orders on a Sunday may need changing and I'm a flexible person but this was totally unacceptable.

We often go to the cow shed, bring friends and have also gone for their bottomless brunches, everyone that has been with us has always really enjoyed it as well. We have never had a bad meal, the food has always been delicious. The staff have always been lovely and it is a very nice atmosphere. Holly in particular is always so chatty and friendly 🤗

Went in for the lunch meal deal. It was ok nothing to write home about. Service was OK to be honest and a little slow not very attentive despite it being almost empty on a weekday. Sadly they add 10% service charge on themselves like it's London... It's birchington... This should be clear before you sit down. That said I won't be coming back again. Each to their own.
