Ocean Lounge in Thanet

We very stupidly stopped in here after just parking up into Margate, very hungry, and really fancying some fish and chip shop chips! There was a traditional, small take away chip shop next door to this one but the queue was round the block, and like I said we were very hungry and didn’t want to wait! As soon as we walked into this restaurant, we regretted it and should have walked straight back out. There were 2 more customers sitting inside, in complete silence, a member of staff came over and told us it was only burger and fish and chips being served that day. We manage to get them to just serve us some chips, I had a wine and my partner had a coke (in a daisy printed glass that you would give your child at home). It was a very awkward setting to be sat in, the staff were just standing around, staring at you, in an empty restaurant, waiting for you to finish your food and then would pounce as soon as your had your last bite. A lady from outside came in and asked to use the loo but they said it was for customers only (fair enough) BUT they asked her to pay to use it if she needed it that bad! Shocking. She didn’t have any change so had to leave. I did need the toilet but felt too uncomfortable to go, I felt like there would be someone watching me. Needless to say, we left as soon as we could, and carried on walking up the beach….there were sooooo many more fish and chip shops and we were absolutely gutted that we just stopped in the first place.

Don't just DON'T! The rudest staff I have ever had the misfortune to come across. My husband spent £10.25 (!) on a beer and a bottle of water, and we sat outside enjoying the sun. After 20 minutes we went to use the loo, my husband was told by one of the guys at the counter "you need to buy some drinks on the way back", the 'lady' stopped me at the door and I explained we'd just had drinks and I asked if I could use the toilet. Her response was to tell me I couldn't and my husband wasn't inside and I should "go away!" Honestly someone needs to teach these people about service!

Rude. We were sitting outside. I had to get them to top my pint up and then they refused to let my wife use the loo. No wonder the bar was empty.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy a satisfying meal and a warm welcome, look no further. I recently visited Ocean Lounge and I was impressed by the hospitality and delicious food. I was greeted with warm smiles and made to feel right at home. The staffs were courteous, helpful and friendly. They checked on me regularly and made sure I had everything I needed. But the best part was the food. It offered a wide range of delicious options. From the juicy burgers to the fresh salads, every dish was well prepared. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend Ocean Lounge anyone who is looking for a great dining experience. It offers a delightful experience for all ages and tastes. The cosy environment inside makes it a must-visit destination for anyone in the area.

The restaurant was empty and we wondered why. Outside the placard said £4.50 for fish and chips and we were massively overcharged because we’d had a ‘large one’ £43!! Don’t go!

You know that way sometimes you walk into a place and think twice about eating there? Well i wish i had thought longer. The restaurant was empty bar one table on a warm Autumn day during half term when every other establishment was packed out. The signs were there which i chose to ignore and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Firstly the menus handed to us were dirty, covered in dried in food. Then we had several attempts at finding something to eat as they had little of what was on the menu. I was recommended the burger by the waitress. KIds got chicken nuggets and my partner did not eat as they did not have any of the 3 dishes she would have eaten. We ordered soft drinks which were completely flat and in dirty glasses. The kids food was fine, no complaints there. However my 'delicious burger' as described by the waitress came to me and was a cheap frozen burger you would expect from a caravan and certainly not worth the money. The lettuce inside was brown and the cheese was non existent. More worrying was the fact the bun was stale and was covered in blue mould on the heel. Even the waitress was shocked 'oh my god' she exclaimed. She took it away to the kitchen and returned and apologized and said another would be prepared. after 2 minutes the very same burger was now inside a brioche bun having been in contact with a bun covered in blue mould. I did not eat the food and asked for it to be taken off the bill. Which it was but reluctantly as she had to make a phone call to authorize this? All in all a dreadful experience and i wish i had listened to my intuition and vibes about the place when i walked in. It was everything i feared it would be

The restaurant itself is clean and looks quite nice. The description of the food on the menu is mouthwatering it’s as shame that the presentation doesn’t do anything for the tastebuds. Our meals were served in spaghetti bowls. I had the chicken with peppers and onions which should have been covered in mozzarella and Parmesan according to the description on the menu but instead had the merest smattering of cheddar. My partner ordered the mixed steak and chicken which was presented as strips of beef and small chunks of chicken. The deserts again just plonked on a plate no cream or ice cream. The sauce sachets we’re out of date. Those in our pot all said July 2022. On a plus the toiles and kitchen appeared spotless but we have decided this is likely due to the lack of use/clientele rather than the cleaning prowess of the Proprietors! There are so many lovely eateries in the locality who do serve well presented food. I would recommend going to one of these and give the Ocean a miss!

Excellent food. Really good fish and chips. The chicken popcorn was excellent too. Not sure about the hot dog. Fries are really good too but as always there are more fries than one can eat. Great prices and portion sizes.

Lovely fish and chips at a reasonable price. Yes the service was a little slow but not terrible and the staff were very friendly.

Absolutely terrible service....ordered Cappuccino when our coffees finally arrived they were plonked on the table....which was covered in seagull poop .... I remarked that they were not Cappuccino only to be told "we don't do Cappuccino " and was told then by a rude waitress that it was Latte !! It was ordinary cheap instnt coffee !! Left ...and went to a lovely place around the corner !!

Ordered a coffee latte and I was given simple home made coffee for £3.50 The venue does not have a coffee machine but they still take orders for coffee latte and give cheap coffee mixed in hot water. Very disappointing.

This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, i have to say, i enjoyed every single bite of the meal in. beautiful presentation. I recommend to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again. This place is great. 😉

Worst restaurant ever. Restaurant was not busy and we ordered just 2 plates of fish and chips but it didn't served even after 1hour. We decide to change the place to eat since our kids was starving, then went to the next restaurant with a queue but it was much faster than this empty restaurant. Of course the taste was great! I would recommend going to the one next door rather than here.

Friendly staff who couldn’t have made me feel more welcome. I had the hot salad which was delicious, sat near a couple who had the fish and chips which looked amazing!

A group of us were in Margate for a day trip and came across this restaurant by chance. The staff over here are knowledgeable and friendly. The food is good and good portion. You can seat inside or outside on a sunny day.

Fantastic! We had the whole place to just the two of us… while we watched people queuing for next door -they don’t know what they missed!!

Good fish and chips, not sure if its worth queuing for so long. The lounge bar and restaurant next door does just as good a Job with their fish and chips. They were just as nice.

Would not recommend this place to anyone. The place looks quiet for a reason, wish I’d listened to the doubts in my head. The place is dirty, the staff have faces like the back end of a bus so unfriendly , unhygienic keep touching their false eyelashes/faces and heard them gobbing off at people outside in an aggressive manner. Clearly they can’t handle the fact that Margate does get busy with people visiting during August… the height of summer! Telling people off rudely for queuing for the next door chip shop, even though I saw the people weren’t blocking entrance as we managed to get in as did a couple of other people, they were queuing in the road and anyway the footpath is for the public to use not owned by this establishment . Unfortunately we all pulled faces at each other in a manner that says we wish we hadn’t stepped foot in the place. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired as did the rude and unprofessional service from the staff. I had an upset stomach later… probably due to the lack of hygiene I witnessed. Please avoid.

We had delicious foods at Ocean grill house 😋 very good customer service. Highly recommended.

Terrible. Spelling mistakes on the menu. Lied saying that the coke was from a can but was actually from a tap, tasted bad. Manager/chef didn’t know what spaghetti bolognese was despite it being on the menu. Asked us if we wanted tomato sauce and we said no, bolognese is meat sauce. Then he said oh you want meatballs and we said no we want spaghetti bolognese, if you don’t know what bolognese is you probably shouldn’t be running a restaurant. Terrible atmosphere and service, don’t go here. Staff seem to not care much and aren’t very honest or helpful.

Nice cod chips ok, service great, go in the early afternoon not really busy get nice seating

We waited over an hour for our meal while watching ‘take away’ customers being served almost immediately. Inexperienced staff are doing their best but not supported by the management. We witnessed multiple customers walk out some without paying and a waiter being dismissed on the spot. Food was also poor with a £12 kebab dish made up of one kebab cut in half both ways to make 4 pieces. The other diners ordered the fish of the day which took over an hour to reach the table. Would have been quicker to have gone to Pete’s fish bar next door.

Booked a table for 8.30 weeks ago, popped in on the day to make sure the booking was still in the diary which it was. Went to the local pub for a few drinks, when we went back we were told that the chef and kitchen staff had been sent home. There was no apology and the manager was not very accommodating. Would never go back and would not recommend, there were 13 of us left looking for somewhere else to eat and the manager didn’t give 2 hoots. Avoid at all costs.

Went today to have a nice lunch before enjoying margate carnival. Wondered around initially before going in, and was quite surprised how nice it looked inside however how empty it was as well. No customers. We sat down and ordered. Was approached quickly for drinks, was served flat soft drinks. Waiting under an hour for food, burger and chips, and a curried chicken and rice dish. Food, was lovely based on this alone would go again. Service however, was appalling, finished our drinks before the food came, nobody asking if we'd like another or once we had food if everything was okay etc the usual 'service' etiquette you'd expect. We finished our meal and got up to pay the bill as wasn't brought to us after asking for it. We were almost over charged for the food, bill not totalling what the menu showed. With a service charge also applied. Totalling £10 worth of overcharges. As there was no service, this was asked to be removed which the waitress and bar maid argued between themselves who was going to ask who I assume was the manager or boss to remove it.. at which point he walked through and we said we want it removed. He said remove it and get out. We won't be returning based on the service or lack there of received.

Popped in to get a pint of larger shandy.. £6 what an absolute rip off as over half of the glass is lemonade, the carnival was on so they thought they would make a quick buck I only had a £5 which he excepted. I won't be back.

The customer service was not great, the fish looked terrible, there is no excuse as you are by the sea, it should be fresh and cooked well, we found a hair on the plate when we complained we felt like we were being ganged up on by the ladies, not good customer service skills.. I had a burger that looked and tasted like a cheap frozen burger from Tesco. I have over 10 years experience in the food and hospitality industry so I know what I'm talking about, sort it out now

Absolutely abysmal, ordered a bottle of chilled prosecco and they requested payment in advance of anything being served. Got served a warm bottle of asti spumante. Returned it and got 3 - 200mm bottles of prosecco, when I pointed out that this was not the full volume that I'd paid for I was told that no more prosecco was available. Spoke to the manager who offered a single cocktail to make up the difference. Explained that I had no interest in a cocktail and that I'd like to be served my order that I'd paid for. Shambolic service, clueless management. Best avoided.

Awful food, the batter on the fish was awful and way too thick. Also VERY expensive! Staff are very nice and the location is lovely but I wouldn’t go there again. Oh and the coke is flat !

Food was average tbh. Staff were friendly, it was really quiet. Shame really never go again

Charged £7 for a small warm tap lemonade and a water, table next to us had a burger bun which was moldy, living here makes you feel sorry for the unsuspecting people coming on holiday. Get a take away, sit on the beach and enjoy the sunset 😎

No fizzy water, no hummus, no salmon, lots crossed off menu as well, chips came out straight away main courses 1/2hr later , my friend had fish grill , cold As was my minute portion of sea bass . The Indian next door we had previously visited was terrible also and have found out it belongs to the same owner. Avoid !!

Went here last Friday for lunch seemed a lovely place went in and was empty we know why, we herd the owners friend saying something about the fish, but hunby thought he would give it a go and his fish was undercooked what a shame as it seemed a lovely place and staff was friendly, they tried to offer another round of drinks but was driving so we said no asked for the bill thought he might knock alittle of the bill but nope nothing £56 for lunch and the only thing that was good out of 3 meals was the Caesar salad just disappointed that they didn’t even offer to knock £5 off and considering they have only been opened for a couple of weeks the food should be spot on never again would rather sit in the heat for a takeaway

Visited during the Jubilee weekend - service was appalling, almost non-existent with only one slow waiter serving. They served flat coke, until we asked for a can & there was no kids menu. We waited over 40 minutes for the food (with a hungry child) and enquired twice how long it would be with no clear indication of when to expect it. One member of staff made a racist comment about the food (fish & chips) taking longer to cook than food from our culture!!! Our group were gobsmacked and at this we paid for our drinks & left telling them what we thought of the rude, poor service. Avoid at all costs!!

Food was amazing! Best sea food I've had for a long while and a really nice selection of sides too. I had the monk fish which was delicious. We got the hot salad to share and it was lovely. Service was also excellent and the restaurant is very nice inside. Can't speak highly enough of the food. It really was glorious.

Had an amazing lunch here. Wondered why no one else was there after reading their menu. But turned out, they only just opened in the last week. Great menu, great service and super tasty food. Also very reasonable and affordable with plenty to eat on your plate. Only downside, is that we hadn't gone there when we first arrived at the beginning of the weekend. Heading back to Ireland, but we will be back a few times on our next visit! 5/5
