Historic country inn with an inviting welcome from the staff, delicious food and great service. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, perfect for any time of the year, but especially fall and winter. We ate Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Perfect pigs in blankets!

My wife and I visited our local and favourite restaurant at the Cow and Calf Inn, in Ilkley. As always, we had an excellent meal and first class service. We always find it to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience dining at the Cow and Calf and with exceptional views across Ilkley Moor in the summer months and throughout the day in the winter.

We've been several times in the last few years, and the quality has improved gradually each time: it feels as if a real effort is being made to provide an experience that people want to return to. The staff were friendly and smart; the timing of orders and food service were good, the food itself was very good and the environment, as always, was stunning.

This has always been one of my favourite places and nothing has changed! The food is still gorgeous, the staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was perfect. Had a lamb Sunday Roast and it had zero faults! Thank you especially to our server: Emily, she was a delight!

Whether you prefer to park in the nearby car park or on the verge just outside the pub, you won’t have any trouble finding a spot, even during busy times. The ease of access is definitely a plus for those who might be stopping by after a long hike or simply exploring the area. Although we had already eaten before arriving, it was clear from the menu that the food options are very tempting. The dishes we saw being served looked delicious, and it was a bit of a shame that we couldn’t sample them ourselves. If the food tastes as good as it looks, then it's definitely worth trying on your next visit. We visited the Cow and Calf primarily as a rest stop after a long hike across Ilkley Moor. The pub provided a perfect spot to unwind, enjoy a drink, and take in the views. In our case, a drink and a snack were just what we needed. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it feels like the kind of place where you can truly relax and soak in the surroundings. In summary, whether you’re looking for a delicious meal, a quick snack, or just a place to relax after exploring Ilkley Moor, the Cow and Calf is a perfect choice. I’ll definitely be returning to try the food and enjoy more of what this lovely pub has to offer.

Saturday lunch august 31st, restaurant presentation and prices, good service, very average food quality.

We stayed here bank holiday Monday, it is a nice location, hotel rooms very nice, the only letdown was the food, had the brisket sandwich, there wasn't much meat in it, the chips were hard and cold (oven chips at a guest) my onion rings turned up when I had nearly finished my meal, then I complained about the chips, so the brought me some triple cooked chips, but they were using frozen ones, which let them down as I thought they would be home cooked! I would stay there again but not eat there

Seven quid for a tiny bowl of soup is taking the piss, I think. It's hard to tell scale in my pic, but look at the spoon and the butter and you begin to understand. It's just a bit mean spirited, innit? The soup bowl is quite small, and filling it half way just isn't a good look. Pint prices are about what you'd expect - roughly a fiver - but I'm glad I checked out pics in here before committing to the other food.

We visited on bank holiday weekend so it was very busy. The staff were doing their best. Food was as expected on such a busy day. It was functional rather than exceptional but given how busy it was I was not surprised.

After a long 3 hour hike through ilkley moor we decided to visit here with our two very tired dogs. We were well in need of a drink and some food, and this place was advertised as dog friendly and right next to the car park. However, we ordered our drinks and filled a dog bowl full of water and sat next to the entrance, our two very thirsty pups spilled some of this water on the stone floor and a member of staff immediately said ‘have you told someone about all of this?’ I replied saying ‘no, its because they are drinking from the water bowl but I will clean it up if you have something’ she then replied ‘it’s a trip hazard’ and dumped a wet floor sign next to our feet and cleaned it up in silence, for the next 5 minutes she proceeded to walk around in and out of the kitchen area staring at us on the way past which was uncomfortable. We decided to finish our drinks and leave without getting food. I felt like this was a complete waste of time, I would rather have been dehydrated for the whole journey home than have wasted money here. It definitely felt like the complete opposite of dog friendly!

The steak I ordered was thick and juicy and beautifully cooked - one of the best steaks I've had in decades! Lovely location, and very nice food, so will be sure to visit again.

Great place in fantastic location. Food was delicious and hot. The atmosphere was good although there weren’t many customers. Only gripe I have is that our meal took 25 minutes too arrive even though the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time. A bit too long to wait.

Perfect location for a walk on Ilkley Moor followed by a gorgeous, welcoming , cosy pub with great food. We had braised steak sandwich which was delicious . Slightly higher prices but worth it for the setting. Dog friendly ( although they had ran out if dog treats when we arrived but i guess it shows it truly is dog friendly). Will visit again

We enjoyed breakfast at the cow and calf before going on a walk to the big cliff in front of the place. They have plenty of vegetarian options. I had a vegetarian English Breakfast that had veggie patties made at home. It was delicious. Definitely a big breakfast. There is a nice view of the country side, a rustic decor with a chimney. It was a holiday so it was quiet busy but enjoyable.

Visited here for lunch - Great views and service however, the value for money is not great if I’m honest. £18.00 for the burger meal pictured below. Sure, it was tasty but it tasted no better than any other chain pub where the same meal would have been £10.00. My feedback is either reduce prices or provide better portions. Also, soft drink prices need looking at too. Over £3.00 for a 500ml bottle of Diet Coke is not great. I hope the above can be taken on board so I can visit again next time I’m at the Cow and Calf Rocks.

Wonderful view, very nice spot to sit outside. Food and drinks were good (although fresh orange juice with a sparkle was a bit of a surprise).

Ordered fish and chips for my hubby and a bowl of chips for myself. At over £4.00 for a bowl of chips I expected more than 10.5 chips, 3 fat ones, 4 medium sized ones and a few malnourished chips at the bottom of a tiny bowl......not happy!!! My husband's fish and chips was nicely cooked and a reasonable sized portion.

We walked to the pub for Sunday lunch from Ilkley. 2 of our party had the Sunday roast beef (which they felt was the best they’d had - they usually have Sunday lunches in London). The other choices were fish and chips, and, chicken and mushroom pie - both very good. Nick was a great host and provided good advice and service.

Great food one occurrence of bad service, could have just had an off day other than that they were really nice and would definitely come here again .

I had the pork belly sunday roast and extra yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets, the food was amazing and the portion sizes were great as well, so much food i struggled to finish. We were served by Nick and the service was great he was very attentive and we will definitely be coming back.

Brilliant! Comfortable chairs. Huge spacious restaurant area, not all squashed together. Hard-working staff who are friendly, cheerful, courteous, polite and obliging. Best pork crackling I've enjoyed in years. Vegetables cooked and presented to perfection. An absolute treat.

We stayed for 2 nights, it was extremely busy due to a charity event, but there was a great atmosphere and we didn’t have to wait ages for food, and what we had was good. Room great, and very clean. Thoughts the staff did well, they must have been shattered!

Nick was a fantastic server. The food was excellent, we visited on a Sunday, and the atmosphere was lovely.

back in July 2024, ordered new stuff such as the skewers and chicken palmo, and scallop and prawn starter. Food is delicious, but the starter portion is really stingy, there was just the one scallop that was halved and four small sized prawns with lots of cheese, and this starter costs £11.50. the mains are better value, especially the lamb skewer, lots of meat, tad overcooked but tasty enough. Back again in September 2023. Menu has changed again, but think better. Well, more to my preference. The schnitzel was delightful, so was the baked pie. Decent portions that we didn't even have to order starter or desserts as we were full from clearing our plates. I downloaded the vintage inn app and hope to become more of a regular to enjoy the amazing offers such as complimentary drink and pretty much 50% discount on my second or third visit. Service was great and didn't mind me bugging them with the app multiple times so I can enjoy the app offer. Seating was obviously most magnificent with the cow and calf rocks right in front of the pub. return for V Day 2023: something's off, service not as attentive, steak tad chewy, menu choices not as appetizing as what we had months ago. But desserts still good, so is calamari starter. Back again in July 2022, and to redeem my birthday free prosecco. Sat outdoors to enjoy the view. Ordered chef specials of prawn linguine and pork belly. Good portions. Also got calamari and chicken wings starters plus fries as sides. All good, though I miss the sweet potato fries we had last. Spoilt for choices, we went for lamb rack and fish cakes in the end plus extra sweet potato fries side, and brownie and crumble for dessert. Really fresh lamb, great handmade fishcake, brownie with the liquor ice cream is heavenly. Lovely service, good seating. Must join the club or app for extras freebies or discounts or specials.

Excellent Sunday Roast and a really lovely interior. I was sat in the far room, by the fire surround and the room was flooded with light. It was lovely and the staff were great. We were having a pretty difficult conversation during dinner and the staff were really respectful and kind, can't fault it. Would definitely go back!

Came here after not visiting for a while, great scenery of the rocks, ilkley and the hills, lovely cottage style restaurant with something for everyone. I do recommend booking tables in advance as sometimes it can be a bit crowded. The only bad thing is that there are sometimes animal droppings outside or in the car park. Will come again next time visiting!

We booked a room for 2 nights and told after the booking dogs were not allowed in the bedrooms. We then were told we wouldn't get a refund of over £220!! Very disappointed! Will not be going back!

Fish abd chips the 1st ti.e that was top draw Another Great experience this time and the service again was exceptional, I had an awesome bacon chop egg chips pineapple garden peas and it was very tasty, for desert was the sticky toffee pudding and custard and it was to die for...not forgetting the spectacular countryside views...

Beautiful location and d a lovely place to stay for a short break or just to relax and enjoy a nice meal or just simply a drink. Over looking IIkley moors with everlasting views . Short drive down into IIkley a nice little town. The building is well kept with large carpark and outdoor seating areas . Internal features throughout the building with an eye for detail. Very good service from Kelly. I had the ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly medium rare. A couple of pints of the (lovely ale)three swords helped wash it down. Wife just had the three small tapas type dishes from the bar. We are on a two night stay and will be eating here again. Day 2 Lovely breakfast this morning set me up nicely for the day. Place was perfect for our 2 night stay. Kelly was on again for breakfast this morning and was friendly and professional again. Only down side was our room overlooked the bins🫣 Would recommend here to stay and will do again when in the area again.

Not having booked,we were greeted by Nick who guided us to a window table so as to take in the beautiful views. Complete table service, food amazing , our grandson can be quite picky about his burgers, declaring it was the best he had ever eaten Food was superb and the personal service from NICK made us feel very special Thank you Nick for making our evening , thank to the chef, for the wonderful 'burger' and fish and chips followed by an amazing pud. Would highly recommend a visit.
