The Courtyard Café in Hart

Ordered a halloumi wrap. Surely one of the simplest things. One entire hour later no sign of it, and having asked twice where it was a guy appeared and excitedly told me my food was 'exactly 4 and a half minutes away'. I presume this was 4 and a half minutes from Birmingham because it was almost a quarter of an hour later that it turned up. Barely tepid so goodness only knows what they had been doing to it for so long. And when I started to eat it there was only halloumi on one half of the wrap, approximately the size of a 50 pence piece. I'd be ashamed to serve this to anyone. When I paid the bill a sulky waitress confirmed service was not included but that I could 'leave some cash' on the table if I wanted to leave a tip. Laughable. It is the second time I've been. First time service was also very slow. But I thought I'd give it another go. Certainly won't make that mistake again.

What a little gem of a find. Friendly, welcoming staff, and great food at a decent price. Menu not too large but a good variety of options. Nice and clean, lovely off-street courtyard. Will definitely be visiting again.

I didn’t have a booking but still received a warm welcome. Tried their pastry and homemade apple and celeriac soup. Was delish ! There is plenty of parking on high street. Would return.

Stopped over during a trip to Somerset, as it's only a short detour off the M3. Fabulous breakfast and everything, except the blackpudding, was gluten free. Terrific!

Good food, but the service is just too fast: Being able to enjoy my food even before it had arrived at the table seemed enjoyable, until I realised I was tasting it before I had even decided what I wanted. Apparently the Courtyard Café forgot how accustomed most of us are to enjoying our food once served to us. I tried to get used to this during my meal, but tasting things before I had even decided really messed up my perceptions of choice and free will. 11/10 would food again

Exceptional food and coffee but the prices are extortionate, to the point where it ruins the experience.

Very nice staff, but concerning how the pancakes did not come with blueberry or cinnamon as stated on the menu. Bacon looked like it had been cooked the day before. We did communicate this in a polite way but nothing was done. A little disappointing for a birthday meal :(

Stopped in for afternoon coffee. Good atmosphere on the sunny day. Coffee good. Food looked good, but a tad above average in cost. Worth trying

Nice little court yard cafe off the high street. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. Had cake and a coffee, my wife had a gluten free cake and hot chocolate. The service was great.

We stopped here for a coffee after a lovely Sunday walk on Hazeley Heath, but it was really nearer lunch time. The courtyard was a very pleasant place to relax, with both indoor and outdoor tables, and we fell to the temptation of the brunch menu to enjoy in the sunshine. The food was excellent, freshly prepared and well presented. Our vegetarian preferences were well catered for and the coffee very good. It’s always good to feel the comfortable ambience generated by other clients who are similarly enjoying their food and drink and attentive, cheerful, polite service from both the owner and their staff, the latter clearly very much involved in the success of this charming café. Decent café, have been coming for years but need to improve the following: Orange juice - they serve UHT/From concentrate. It's a cafe and this would be a popular item... why don't they serve fresh orange juice/Not from concentrate? Cleanliness - they need to deep clean their crockery and cutlery regularly. For example the spout of the tea pots are heavily tea stained. Sometimes the cutlery is not clean too. Also the seat pads for the chairs outside are often stained. They need to wash them regularly. In the past I have noticed the inside bench seating upholstery being a bit dirty too. Some staff members could be friendlier too. Prices are on the high side. There is a 4 star hotel nearby that does a la carte breakfast and on top, full fresh hot and cold breakfast buffet, fresh juices, smoothies, hot drinks, fresh breads, and pastries (eat as much as you like) for £20 per Head! Professional waiting service too.

Rang up at 3.40pm on Saturday, spoke to a male voice on the phone, asking if it was dog friendly and when you close and if we could book a table for 4 in about 45 minutes. Was told there’s no need to book as there’s plenty of tables available. Turned up at 4.30pm after also checking the advertised closing time of 6pm both on the website and Google, only to find that they are just about to close and there’s no food left as they’ve ’been really busy’. Thanks for wasting our time!

Yummy food choices in a lovely setting with both indoor and outdoor options

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Enjoyed our brunch very much. We had a dog with us and felt very at ease in the courtyard. It began to rain and we were accommodated easily indoors to the side.

Lovely location nice walk through a building into the back area to enter the cafe. Nice atmosphere a little loud but pleasant. The cappuccino was perfect. The scrambled eggs were a little wet and the bacon was a little fatty both damp and fat on the edge but still tasted ok. I think 3 stars is accurate as there is definitely a lot of room for improvement against modern standards of cafes and eateries. Also no WiFi and very bad signal in the area- disappointing.

Superb food (chicken wrap was demolished) and a fantastic group of waitresses, making us feel very welcome. Reasonably priced and great portion sizes. Thank you and we’ll definitely be back!

My grandad and I go very frequently, it is the best cafe around! The food is absolutely spectacular, always perfect, service is outstanding. We usually have Keiran, who gives excellent service and always welcomes us with a smile and has a chat with us, couldnt recommend a place more!

Really pleased to find a British cafe that puts a bit of effort into food presentation!! Simple modern decor, lots of light. Tasty brunch and coffee. Good service. Looking forward to coming back and trying the regular lunch menu.

What a lovely and friendly place to have a coffee or a meal, you access the courtyard by going through a corridor which takes you past an antique shop then into a small outdoor space with tables and chairs then into the cafe, the staff were very good and the coffee was one of the best coffees we have had, we will definitely go back when next in the area.

Lovely food and service. We were served by Kieran and it was genuinely one of the best attitudes and approaches I've seen from a server in a long time. His interactions with our 5yr old as well as us were spot on!

December2023 update First proper day out after a bug wiped me out. A day of dark skies, coupled with the kind of rain that just wants you to be wet. So given the choice of a sausage roll in the car or somewhere warm and comfy... Chicken wrap was lovely. Really nice meat, still moist; coleslaw I think had a touch of yogurt and mint so the flavours were just right and balanced with the spice of the wrap. Chips tasted fresh, and again just right. Pleased a table was available! And we need to go back to sample the cakes! Original... Lovely delicious fresh cooked food, fab coffee. Perfect if you are not in a hurry. The lamb kofta was an upmarket and very yummy kebab, and the Asian chicken was a fab combination of textures and flavours. Although the coffee machine wasn't working the cafetiere coffee was smoky and delicious enough that it rolled like velvet over the whole of my tongue.

We stumbled across this hidden away gem. The food was 10/10 and the service friendly and very quick. We’d pop back in again 😊

Small and quite noisy. Half term is not the time to visit

The place and servers were really good but the food was only fair. Eggs Florentine served with cold raw spinach. Usually comes with wilted spinach.

I often visit here with a friend and we always have the delicious avocado with smoked salmon poached eggs and chillies on sourbread toast. It never fails to impress with the quantity, freshness and balance of flavours. It's good value for money too Whether one eats in or in the pretty courtyard the staff are always charming and welcoming no matter how busy they are. The place is spotlessly clean and the coffee excellent. Good selection of cakes too. I read a negative review recently on TripAdvisor and can only declare the review to have been written by someone having a very bad day or an idiot. The food is fab, the staff are great, the service prompt and courteous and I shall be returning very soon to enjoy more of the same. Thank you to all at Courtyard Cafe for a 5* experience.

Perfect Sunday morning breakfast. The food is tasty and plentiful, the service efficient and friendly and the coffee delicious.

Excellent lunch of goats cheese, salad with avocado. Perfectly dressed and very fresh avocado.

Group of 8 of us had breakfast here today ... Really enjoyable ... great service, very friendly accommodating staff ... Delicious food in a pretty setting would recommend and will defiantly return.

Pretty good food, but the burger, steak ciabatta and sourdough were all let down by soggy bread. Service was on the slow side of relaxed, even tho the cafe was no more than a third full.

The place is beautiful, especially that we didn’t know there will be a cafe here, we went in an antique shop and woke up in a beautiful garden with tables and coffee. Service was great, everyone matched the nice atmosphere. The food (shashuka) on the other hand not great, a bit bland probably because of the tomatoes used in. Can be improved. Generally, def would come here again. Enjoy

Produced an amazing picnic for us to take to Hampton Court. Lovely fresh meats and pies, home made leeks tarts and a very decent cheese board. Not to forget lovely cakes to finish. Including loan of basket was brilliant. Thanks Martin

Went for a late lunch, wasn't that impressed by the choice of food or the piles of rocket added to each of our meals. Thought it was very overpriced for what it was.

Fantastic lunch at this lovely cafe - bigger than you think, really family friendly but plenty of people meeting for coffee with no kids! A great menu and great children’s options too, friendly staff, food as good as it sounded. All in all a great little place and well worth the visit!

Had a lovely brunch hosted at the Courtyard Cafe for a friend's baby shower. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and a lot of effort was made to cater for dietary requirements. The staff made sure we were all well looked after - thankyou!

Went for the 1st time today, and we loved it. We didn't know you had to walk through the shop to get to the cafe, just so you know if you haven't been as we had no idea. Once in, we were seated, got in early, and it soon got busy, so it would be good to pre book. We both had breakfast. I had the keto brunch it was amazing. How did they get it to be so tasty, the quality was top notch, and they seem to use local produce, which is excellent. My husband says the coffee was really good, too. We even had the chef bring ours out to us as they were very busy, so it was nice to be able to let him know his food was excellent. All in all we were very pleased with everything and will be back. Also, we will be going back to sample their amazing cakes they had on display. If you have not been, take a chance like we did, and you won't be disappointed. Lots of great choices on menu

Convenient for a short business meeting.

Absolutely blown away. Arrived even though it took some time to find (recommended by several friends). Seated quickly and orders taken. We order a cup of coffee and a tea. Both came pretty quickly. Then had some lovely Carrot cake and the Bakewell slice. My word, the carrot cake was so moist and really delicious. The Bakewell on the other hand, brought back memories of my childhood with my grandmothers cake. Absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to come back and try it out. Thank you to the chefs who made our day brilliant!

I just love this place. Food is always great, staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and are friendly. I have come here with friends, work colleagues and family over that last few years. My favourite is brunch and the coffee is by far the best. Just wish I lived closer to use more often. Keep up the fantastic food and friendly atmosphere team.

I recently visited the cafe and unfortunately had a terrible experience with the owner, Laura Roberts. The food was absolutely amazing, but her rude and disgusting attitude really left a sour taste in my mouth. As the owner of the cafe, she should know better and provide better customer service. Despite the delicious food, I would not recommend this cafe due to the poor service.

Thank you Laura and your staff for a wonderful brunch yesterday in one of your cosy rooms . The food was delicious and we couldn’t fault the service and how friendly everyone was. The children had a little toy table to keep them amused. Parking is very close by and free for up to 2hours. We would definitely recommend this lovely place 😁

We had a lovely Brunch for my wifes 60th birthday at the Courtyard Cafe in Hartley Whitney, 10 adults and 4 young children. Laura and her staff made us feel very welcome and ensured we had sufficient space to enjoy ourselves, Laura allocated one of the rooms to us. The food was excellent as was the service. One of our party is Gluten free, this was no problem at all. It was an absolute pleasure with everyone commenting on how nice it was. We would not hesitate in recommending this Cafe.

Delicious lunch, friendly and quick service. Lovely setting to sit and have a relaxed meal. Pork schnitzel was amazing.

Really bad experience. It was recommended by a friend and we were very disappointed. The pork tenderloin panko schnitzel tasted off and I had to leave it after a few bites. The ridiculous chargrill lemon didn't add anything especial to the dish and the pork schnitzel was on top of the chips which made it difficult to cut and there was not much room on the plate. My husband had the venison burger which he didn't like either. We didn't dare to have anything else and the waitress at the end didn't ask how the food was when we were paying. I think she knew already. We'll never go there again!!

Used to be brilliant! But a bad experience today. We waited ages to be served. Took 2.5 hours for two of us to have lunch there!! And they were half empty. Also the mushroom gnocci had about 4 pieces of actual gnocci in it. Staff seemed distracted and were inattentive - walking past us constantly and ignoring the fact we had finished the food and we’re waiting to order drinks. Disappointing given how brilliant this place used to be. As our usual meet up place this is sad. Hope they can rectify things.

Toast hardly done milk running over scrambled egg had to mop plate with tissue.terrible nice place but if one can't scramble an egg or toast bread it's time to call it a day.

A nice, cozy little nook, tucked away behind an antiques shop, this spot has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. This is especially true if you dine in their patio. The food is fresh, and there's always some lovely, fresh pastry available.

Very pleasant cafe with good coffee and tasty food. Has a lovely seating area outside and an open, covered room as well.

This place used to be lovely with really friendly waiting staff. Unfortunately there has been a steady decline in the service and quality of food, with rude waiting staff and incredibly long waits for food (today was an hour for us and 2 hours for some other tables). This is such a shame as it used to be such a gem. Strongly do not recommend anymore.

Once we had sat down, we were waiting to order for around half an hour, and once we had ordered it took an hour for our food to arrive. There was no communication for if our food was arriving when we had asked, and when it arrived it wasn’t very good quality. Before I have had nice experiences with this, but today was terrible!

This is like a secret café in a pretty village. The best is to go on a sunny day as the outside is beautiful. The only minus are the prices not affordable for everyone and a bit expensive for the quantity.

We went for a Sunday breakfast, a table was booked for 9.30 and when we got there it was very quiet, with only one other table being occupied. None of the tables had reserved signs, so we sat where we chose. The food was great and service good too. No complaints from us

Fantastic service and the food was amazing. The cakes are out of this world. Don't eat the macarons what ever you do. It only takes one bite and you'll be addicted. I've had afternoon tea at top hotels in London and the food here beats those hands down. Found by complete accident but I've already planned my return journey.
