The County Hotel, Newcastle in Newcastle upon Tyne

Wanted to book 4 night stay ,needed to ask some questions. Was on hold for just over 60 mins. Booked elsewhere. Absolutely dreadful service!

Made to sit in reception until £50 holding deposit was paid and my wife had the card. Room was paid for in full. Still not allowed in. When checked in couldn't get tv to stream and on calling reception advised they don't have a licence for this. Surely modern hotels let you have access to the Smart tv features that are installed in their rooms??

Terrible expirience with this Hotel. We have arrived around midnight and Google sent us first to another building which was owned by the same hotel. Where we were charged £200. After that the reception team member realised that we have actually paid already for the room in the main building of the Hotel. The £200 were hold for 2 months. After we finally checked in the reception team member opened the gate for me to park the car. And the next morning when we went for a walk the other team member from the reception team told us that we can leave the car in the parking while we go for a walk as we have 24 hours to keep it there after arrival. Now every week I am getting the letters with charges for this parking. Do not go there! Bad service.

The 2 night stay at the county hotel was amazing and we highly recommend an overnight stay to anyone. The hotel staff are warm and greeting and very friendly. This is where we had our wedding ceremony aswell it was amazing.

The hotel is decent, but the rooms are extremely small. On my first night, the kitchen hoods made it impossible to sleep—my entire room reeked, and the old windows did little to block the noise and odor from outside. I’d recommend stay at the rooms which face the street, not back yard.

Fabulous stay with friends. Smooth check in. Room was immaculate, we were so well looked after, staff went above and beyond, special mention to Paul who made sure we had everything we needed and more, so appreciated. Buffet breakfast was delicious, set us up for the day. Beautiful hotel great staff. We can't wait to return.

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel. The rooms were spotlessly clean. Comfy bed. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent delicious food. Big Thank you to Paul on Reception.

Stayed here a few years ago, the rooms were desperate and in need of tlc, pleased to say the room we stayed in last night had been updated. Comfortable rooms with tea and coffee. Staff great and breakfast fab. Only down side is the busy road ( nothing can be done about the Newcastle traffic). Will stay here again

The only let down was the attached bar, which had limited selection of some drinks and a somewhat stilted atmosphere

Nice hotel on a great location. Old hotel with creaking floor what add to the charm. Beware there are some stairs to get to the rooms. For is a mistake in a room,got a room with 1 bed instead of 2. Not able to solve due to full hotel

Meal at best was average, service good.

Absolutely stunning, from the bar to the restaurant to the rooms an amazing amount of love and care has been used to make this one the best priced for value hotel. The prices for the restaurant was extremely fair and the food was presented very well and so tasty. There was a home football match on and the bar was filled with supporter but everyone was respectful and in excellent spirits. Bar prices was on par with other bars in Newcastle.

Perfect location! This hotel is just across the train station and many other establishments that one might like to visit. The receptionist, Caroline ( I dont know if thats the right spelling) but she was very friendly, accommodating and funny. I hope she gets better soon as she was under the weather but that did not stop her from welcoming us with excellent customer service. The room is very clean and had everything we need. I felt very safe in this hotel because upon entering the vicinity, the security officer would ask you for your room number and name of guest, which was reasonable. One thing I would suggest was for the mini bar snacks to be placed in a proper shelf so that the guest would know whether its free or not, because one might think its free if they dont read the menu placed on the table. Other than that, I would definitely come back again.

I used to stay at this hotel regularly and rated it highly. However, three weeks on from my latest stay, I am still waiting for the pending £50 charge on my bank account to be cancelled. I have contacted the hotel twice and had no response. This has put me off staying again, especially for anything longer than a one-night stay, as it's £50 per night.

I did not enjoy my stay and my room. Food was not great. The location was good but compared to what was advertised, it didn't live up to expectations.

My favorite hotel in Newc, stayed here probably 10 times, great location and a bargain on week nights. Breakfast in the Hudson is well worth £10

A good value but old hotel. It was comfortable and clean. A great location across from the train station. Did have a mix up when they gave another couple our room even though we where In it. Quickly sorted

Ate at the restaurant attached, had a lovely blue burger. Server's were attentive, although service charges were added to bill.

For a conference. Staff helpful and pleasant, food wasn't ideal unfortunately

Great Hotel in the centre of Newcastle.

The Aparthotel rooms are very comfortable, spacious and well decorated, and the price/performance ratio is super high!

Fantastic stay at this Hotel - we had an initial issue with a television in our room but the hotel swiftly dealt with this and moved us to another room which was lovely. Overall very efficient and friendly staff as well as a lovely room we stayed in. Location is perfect - Would stay again.

Stayed 5 times before and left five star reviews. New management and place is a total disaster where you are treated like dirt. Took £50 damage deposit but then forgot to have receipt paper in card machine. Decided to make it my problem all stay - rather than reversing the auth and doing another one, staff member kept wanting to write my card number down manually on paper which I was not comfortable with. 4 fire alarms all night up & down the stairs too, you'd barely know I'd been able to spend any time in the room, yet at check out they continued to make the lack of receipt for the £50 hold my problem and insisted on me waiting so they could inspect my room before I was "allowed to go" and they would give me the money back. Not once was there any hint I was actually a customer, let alone one who prepaid £100 for the room and in good faith had a £50 deposit held on my card even if they had no receipt paper. Staff act and treat everyone like criminals, after 5 minutes I was told flatly my room was fine and that I could go (!). Still no hint of apology. And a week later and still not got the money back. Only go here if you want to be treated like dirt with zero customer focus.

"Double" room was very small albeit clean. Room very warm. As many have mentioned they demand a £50 deposit which they say may take up to 10 days to return. I've not been asked for one of these in 20 years! Breakfast very good and staff serving were first class. If they stopped taking £50 of your money for 10 days I'd stay again but otherwise definitely will not.

I found the hotel good value for money. Conveniently located just across the street from the train station, the room was clean and nice.

We got married at the county hotel on the 17th of February. The venue was absolutely stunning, Lukas the wedding coordinator was an absolute angel, answering all of our questions and was so personable and friendly. The venue were so accommodating around small personable touches, creating a bespoke vegetarian menu, allowing my mum to do a blessing and 90% of the day went flawlessly. Everyone commented on how lovely Lukas was, he went above and beyond on the day and would come back telling us little facts he knew about our guests. The wedding team changed over since we booked so there were a couple of communication errors, there were a couple of things that went wrong on the evening however the venue were apologetic and did let us know how they've ensure it didn't happen going forwards It was a beautiful venue, perfect location, delicious food and truly allowed us to have the wedding we wanted!

The location of this hotel is good, directly across from the train station. Check in was excellent: the staff member was nice and let me check in early. The hotel itself is getting shabby. Stains on rugs, chipped furnishings, missing plaques on the doors, etc. I was assigned suite 105, which is a long walk from reception up two flights of stairs. It had a view of a roof and there were air-conditioning units directly outside the window, and intermittently there was a lot of noise. On the second night of the stay, I arrived back at my room at around 11 pm. I found that both of my key cards were deactivated and I took the long walk back to reception. I explained the problem, and they handed back the cards without saying anything. They didn't apologise or explain why I couldn't access my room. I checked out early on Sunday, and the woman at reception wasn't friendly, didn't ask about my stay, seemed bothered I was there. The next time I'm in Newcastle I will choose a different property for my stay.

Terrible, I emailed all of my concerns and received no response. Advise staying away from this hotel.

Currently having a great experience with the breakfast in bed room service at The County Hotel in Newcastle! The convenience and quality of in-room dining, rather that hauling my hung-over self to the dining room is much appreciated. Just ordered a full English breakfast with a side of pastries, pot of tea, fresh orange and toast, value for money! The staff are just lovely, and the rooms are large and comfortable.

Ideal hotel, locality fantastic, especially if arriving by train. Room was clean and a good size, some rooms are very small but this was great. Staff on reception friendly. Very enjoyable stay in Newcastle 👍

The standard double room really isn't big enough for a couple - the bed is smaller than a normal double bed and right up against the wall, and there's hardly anywhere to put clothes (the small wardrobe had an ironing board, iron, safe and fan inside it, leaving little space for anything else). The room was far too hot - we turned the radiator off but still had to open the window slightly to let air in, which shouldn't be necessary in early March! Our towels were replaced each day, despite us leaving them hung on the towel rail to indicate we wanted reuse them. But used cups, glasses and coffee were not replaced. There were of small issues that suggested a lack of thought when fitting out the room: The cable on the hairdryer in the drawer was so short I had to sit on the floor to dry my hair. The tap was positioned so close to the edge of the sink that it was impossible to use without getting water everywhere. The wooden surround around the TV muffled the sound so much we had to have it on full volume to hear it. We were asked for a £150 security deposit on checking in - I've never been asked for a sum like that anywhere else. We've been told it will be returned automatically, but only after we queried it - the response from the receptionist was very dismissive. The location of the hotel is great - for the station and the city centre - but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

It's rubbish, no atmosphere, we got stuffed 4:1 &the home fans still can't sing. Full of tourists.

Expensive as hell with no free breakfast for guests, fire alarm went off 3 TIMES at midnight-1am after they assured us after the 2nd time it wouldn’t happen again. TV wouldn’t work, our first room had a dirty toilet
