The Countryman in Daventry

I love this place! It's a real Locals' local, but so welcoming to 'occasionals' such as myself. (I live some 20 miles away, in Coventry, so normally only get to visit once every few weeks, when business takes me to Fawsley or Preston Capes.) I wish I lived closer, but my bank manager is probably glad I don't! 😪

FAULTLESS. 5☆ Absolutely FANTASTIC. Service is excellent. The staff very welcoming. Very attentive and dressed nice and with clean outfits. Great attention to detail. Food fantastic with a good menu range. Everything we both had, you couldn't fault it. I had the Steak, with a peppercorn sauce. My partner had steak and ale pie, all hot And presented well. Flavoursome and plentiful. A wide range of non alcoholic beers to choose from too. The whole evening was lovely. Definitely be back. And we will also be recommending to others. Thankyou for wonderful food.. and a pleasant evening.

Lovely atmosphere and tasty food, we all commented on how delicious our starter & main courses were and that we must return very soon. Well worth a trip.

Popped in for an unplanned lunch, and were welcomed by a lovely team! The food was delicious! Have lived down the road for a few years now and always heard good reviews, so glad to finally pop in. Will definitely be back!

Just had a very pleasant afternoon, and Sunday lunch with family group of 9. Welcomed by staff at the bar, invited to have a drink until our table was ready. Taken to our table on time, and given time to peruse the menu. Everyone's orders were taken, and read back to us, and service was excellent. As for food, I don't have enough adjectives in the English language to describe the quality and portions. Every course was brought at a short time, and everyone's plates were cleared. Excellent service, excellent quality of food and portion size. Highly recommend a visit👍👍

We booked in for a meal here due to staying locally for the weekend. Warm welcome, friendly staff, excellent service especially our waitress Olivia. The food was hot & tasty. Would definitely recommend.

We visited for a birthday and our entire party of seven enjoyed the food, wine and staff. The chicken risotto starter was especially tasty and the Camembert was a hit.

This was the best pub meal I've ever had. The staff were lovely, the atmosphere e great and the food was delicious!!

Great pub, lovely staff, superb food

Our first time here and we really loved it. The service was great with friendly staff and the food was brilliant too. Desserts were lovely and we were pleased with the price too. My only tiny niggle would be perhaps to have a small pot of gravy with the steak & ale pie, as I didn’t find the pre-poured amount as much as I prefer. 😊

Myself and my partner ordered two sirloin steaks and dessert. People/ staff were brilliant, food was delicious and service was great. 10 of 10 + I never give a 100% score normally. Never been to Daventry area before and Abdul's Indian could testify to a bad score. This place is a gem. Expensive but worth every penny.

Exceptional establishment. The food here was amazing, I can't wait to go back. Everything was done perfectly; starters, mains and dessert. The staff were really nice and friendly. You can't really get any better so go down and enjoy. Update Been back here a few times and the high standards are still there. Food was excellent.

Set in the countryside, lovely atmosphere, Hook Norton ale, food at the bar, with a light lunchtime menu; table service in dining area has à la carte, vegetarian & varied choice, advisable to book a table. Takeaway service available. Very friendly staff. Outside seating to the rear, also at the front with views of the fields beyond.

Lovely country pub, welcoming and warm. Good food too. Only downside is that you really need to book well in advance to secure a table.

Superb lunch menu with wide choice of meals. I chose venison and mu wife had chicken. Both dishes were well presented , piping hot and full of flavour. Selection of real ales was good. The service was good and staff attentive. Highly recommended.

Spent our New Year Eve here with four friends. Great meal excellent service. and a reasonable cost for a NY night....Only small negative was the singer whose song selection needed to be more lively for a New Year event....otherwise recommend this place.

Having been to the pub before, and after a meeting with a client, we decided we wanted to stop for lunch, we knew it would be busy because it was coming up to Christmas, but the way and manner in which we were told to leave because there were no tables in a rude and abrupt manner was unacceptable. The only good outcome from this is we were told to go to the pub down the road called the red lion where the food service Ambience and attitude is so much better. So therefore come out the pub turn right or left down that road and come to the red lion It’s far better. The staff are far nicer and the food was phenomenal. I wouldn’t be coming back here because the lady behind the bar was just abruptly rude..

We had a fantastic Sunday evening dinner with family. 12 of us and the service and food was brilliant. The roasts were really well cooked and presented although sadly they had already sold out of two of the meat choices. It was well worth the visit!

Our first visit to this country pub. We met our friends for lunch. We had a quiet table in the window ; there was a large group in the back room. Great choices on the menu plus specials and a vegan menu. Our friends rated their fish and chips highly- perfectly cooked. My husband chose pork belly and I had a delicious butternut squash risotto. My dessert was gorgeous. Do try the chocolate and praline Opera cake. Unobstrusive but attentive waiting staff & a warm Smiley welcome & farewell. Recommended.

Visited for lunch and was not disappointed. The choice was great with three types of fish and seasonal meats such as pheasant and venison. Food was delicious and the staff welcoming and attentive. We shall be returning very soon.

Again we were accommodated for Saturday lunch at short notice even though they were quite busy. Lovely chicken dish. Partner had paneer & coconut curry which he enjoyed. Always friendly staff & pleasant atmosphere. We will be back again!

I had a roast dinner that was absolutely awful. The only meat that tasted ok was the chicken. The beef was tough as old boots. Few drops of veg had no taste at all and the veg they served was courgettes and green beans ! Who has these on a roast ? Obviously very cheap veg .

it was lovely to see a village pub so busy just drinking locals as well as diners , i went for dinner with a friend and was not dissapointed , my steak as was her duck was cooked perfectly , the dauphinaus was superb , and the cheesecake desert rounded off the meal perfectly , oh and my wine was very good as well , the service well they all know what they are doing and are very good at it , thank you to all x

Great Sunday lunch, full roast with all the trimmings, only thing I was disappointed with, was only having 2 roast potatoes on the plate. We ordered extra vegetables and roasts which I would recommend. But very enjoyable none the less. I thought I was in London when we received the bar bill.

Food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely in this sweet little country pub. Food was slightly pricey for a pub, but extremely reasonable for the quality of food recieved. Service was friendly but a bit lacking in quality, our server had tried none of the Food previously and we had to ask for steak knives. This didn't take much away from the overall experience, which was lovely.

Fantastic pub! We we greeted by the lovely Amy who made us feel very welcome even with 3 kids in tow and the food was fantastic. Beyond your standard pub grub at very reasonable prices. The service was also impeccable, I didn't get our waitresses names but they went above and beyond to make our evening an enjoyable one. Just little touches made a huge difference, like child friendly cutlery and coloured cups for the kids. We can't wait to go back :)

Went for a quick spontaneous meal with my hubby. The waitresses were lovely and the food did not disappoint but a bit pricey so be prepared . However I was concerned about the level of noise coming from the kitchen. There was a lot of crashes and signing which disturbed our meal. The bar staff seemed very uptight. Very happy to discover a proper country pub with a decent vegan menu, 4 starters, 4 mains and 3 desserts all on a separate menu, we have visited twice over the last few weeks and both times the food was fantastic and the service exceptional. We will most definitely be heading back again soon.
