Absolutely stunning little place, a real charmer! Me and my best friend are on a short break and we stumbled upon this café, and what a lovely start to the day! Food was phenomenal, really reasonably priced with discounted tea pot refills. And, it was refreshing to see such a varied vegan/gluten free menu! We each had the standard veggie breakfast (and at most other places it doesn't include substitute bacon - but here it did) and it was just amazing! Thankyou to the pleasant staff, also!

We often pop into the Country Table for Brunch/morning coffee. The food is cooked fresh to order, you can swap ingredients on a standard breakfast (eg mushrooms for beans) free of charge. The cakes and scones are nice. The service at the till is great, as are all the staff. It is great value for money.

We have been regulars at the the Country Table since it first opened but after Covid our attendance has not been as regular. That’s not to say we haven’t enjoyed our vibists. Breakfast have been good even the gluten free options. However I wonder why there is no charge listed on the menu for hot water which costs 80 pence for a cup. This is essentially galling for a person who hasn’t drunk tea or coffee for many years except for the very, very odd cup of coffee.

Had a fabulous all day brekky this afternoon with my bestie. The quality of all the ingredients were top notch and very tasty. Fantastic price at £7.99. The kind lady serving me swapped out the tomato’s for hash browns so I was made up. And the lovely Linda, aka baby poker (private joke) is super friendly… it was such a relaxing place to eat out we didn’t want to leave! We’ll be back soon.

We were stuck for a good place to eat, having looked on Trip Advisor under restaurants nothing was really inviting ….. we like food that is good quality home cooked food, with a slightly alternative flair (not just traditional meat and two veg) and we don’t like chains. Then whilst walking back to the car park, we happened across The Country Cafe, from the outside it didn’t grab me but I saw a board advertising Homity Pie 😋 so I decided to look at it further ….. then I saw Iced Peach 🍑 Tea ….. so I decided to go in ….. I’m so glad we did ……. The food was amazing - they had food on the counter just as a visual so you could see what your food would look like if you ordered it. They had a delicious omelette with a tasty filling and too many other mains to list ….. great vegetarian 🥑 and gluten free options, if needed. Great selection of teas and drinks and their homemade cakes 🧁 were unbelievable!!!! Dense and moist and others were light and fluffy ….. the tray bakes were great in selection too ….. I had the Homity Pie, Iced Tea and Banana Cake that had perfect frosting ! The staff were super friendly and quick to serve ….. the place had a warm vibe and reminded me of the Deep South with good southern American 🇺🇸 diner feel to it. Wooden beams and homely decor with lovely art 🖼️ on the wall available to buy and Burts food products on sale too. When we next return to Newton Abbot this will be the only place we return to and eat and will be recommending to all ….. thank you 🙏🏼

Wow! I had such an amazing experience at the country table cafe! I have coeliac disease and I have to be gluten free. Their cross contamination knowledge was astounding! The two lovely ladies at the counter ensured me that everything was cooked separately to where the normal food was, including own toaster and butter that was free from. I had a lovely gluten free toasted breakfast sandwich. It was honestly amazing! My friend had a tuna Mayo sandwich and a cake and thoroughly enjoyed hers. I have not had a reaction to my food which is brilliant! I cannot praise them enough! This establishment is my new favourite place! Thank you so much for an amazing experience! You have got yourself some new regulars!

After checking out their menus on the website and really glad to see a cafe doing eggs royale. Myself and my partner went down to visit unfortunately the menu advertised on the website did not only contain various other options that weren't available they were advertising completely different prices. I'm sure the management team will be well aware that under Section 20 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it a criminal offence for a person in the course of his business to give consumers a misleading price.

Every school holiday I take my two oldest grandchildren to The country table cafe in bank street, Newton Abbot, Devon. We go there for breakfast. The service is excellent. Very quick and there is never a problem in altering the set cooked breakfast menu, eg one child likes to add hash browns to his whilst the other one removes cooked tomatoes but likes extra sausage. I usually have the vegetarian breakfast, also very good and enjoyable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The entrance is accessible to everyone. There are plenty of tables available. The only downside is that they do not have a disabled access toilet. If you ever want a quick and filling snack their cheese scones are the best I've tasted anywhere. There is also a very good selection of main meals or sandwiches. So whenever you're in Newton Abbot and need a very enjoyable freshly cooked meal I highly recommend The Country Table.

We are frequent diners at the Country Table. The food is good quality at a reasonable (fiar) price. We like the friendly, chatty atmosphere. It can get a little noisey out front but there is a nice cosy rear room if you like things quiter. They have a great selection of home made foods. My husband and I popped in here for a light lunch. The people serving were friendly and helpful and it is obviously a popular place as it was busy for November. My husband had a bacon sandwich meal deal, which was a sandwich, a packet of Burt’s crisps and a coffee for £6.10. It was tasty and good value for money. I had a jacket potato with bean/vegetable chilli. The chilli was very nice but I am afraid the potato was slightly hard, so I have deducted a star. I think the interior of the cafe could also probably do with sprucing up. However, I was impressed that they provided separate menus for both gluten free and vegans.

For the basic type of cafe with views on an alley and the coach park, if you sit in the back of the cafe. Latte is expensive £2.65. I will not be making the same mistake again. Customers enter the cafe from the front then go to the back and queue, which is annoying. Most places you go in you automatically join the queue. Its a cafe that you may regret going in, I most certainly did. Not recommended.

I have to admit that I didn't think much of this café/restaurant as I walked past it. It looked a little old-fashioned and wasn't very eye-catching compared to some other cafes in town. However, I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised once I walked in. The café is a family-run business (since '94). Food there is vegetarian-friendly and there are plenty of gluten free options. I was welcomed by the staff as I walked in. One thing I would say about the cafe is that the menu looks a little confusing at first. While there are many good deals on the menu, i also found myself having to try and figure out in many instances whether a drink/sandwich was included in some of the meal deals Maybe a new layout is needed? Also, the food options were quite basic: paninis, soups, salads, toasties, and quiche. Nothing extraordinary. When I got my food (ploughman's platter), I was pleasantly surprised. While I had some problems with the food quality, the staff were happy to fix any problems I had. The portion size was big, perhaps a little too big, but I was able to take the leftovers home. I also had a milkshake which was a little warm when it arrived, but this didn't bother me too much!Pros:-Friendly staff-Good prices -Large portions Cons:-Food quality sometimes poor (e.g. I had a warm-ish milkshake)- Busy/loud due to popularity-Confusing/basic menuFood quality: 7/10Drink quality: 6/10Cleanliness/look of café: 7/10Staff friendliness: 7/10Food availability/options: 7/10

Visited this place with my dad when I was visiting from Kent (Dad lives in the Newton Abbot area), and he wanted to take me for lunch. The gluten free menu was fantastic, I have coeliac disease so can be difficult eating out but when the lovely server gave me a whole menu to choose from I was astounded. Almost three weeks later, I'm still in awe! My first ever savoury scone was consumed here, and I will never forget it! I plan on returning when I next venture down. The ladies serving were very welcoming, and very accommodating. And everything sold here, I found to be extremely good value. And despite the cafe being rather full when i and Dad arrived, the ladies helped us find suitable seating.

I have always used The Country table but today I witnessed a poor attitude and disgusting customer service which really upset both my Mum and myself. An Elderly gentleman came in for a coffee and a toasted teacake and proceeded to take it outside to eat it as he was a smoker. The gentleman had memory problems and early stage dementia, he forgot he needed sugar, so came back inside to get some, with that a seagull came down and took his teacake. When the elderly gentleman returned to his table he realised what had happened as his teacake had vanished. We told the manager what had happened and asked if they would give the elderly man another teacake, to which the manager responded, yes but he’ll have to pay the £2.10p! She said if you were walking along the seafront with fish and chips and a seagull came and took your fish you wouldn’t return to the chip shop and ask them to replace the fish!!! Disgusting attitude for a manager to take in my view. This was an elderly man with dementia, the teacake would have cost them around 25p if that. Both my Mum and myself were disgusted, two other ladies also tried to get the manager to budge on her decision but to no avail, both leaving and said that’s the last time we come in here! My Mum purchased the gentleman another teacake from her own money! Let’s hope the manager never gets dementia and receives the same uncaring response as a customer. You should be ashamed!!!

I visited the Country Table with my husband for lunch one day. As vegans we were really pleased to see their vegan menu and we both decided to try the vegan breakfast. The lady who served us was friendly and very helpful, advising us that the moccachino drink we wanted to order wasn't vegan, so we ordered an Americano coffee with soya milk. The breakfasts were cooked and served to us very quickly. They consisted of a vegan sausage, a few slices of vbites bacon, beans, mushroom, tomato and toast with soya spread. It was delicious and hot and a generous sized portion for a very reasonable price. The only small downside as that there was only one sausage. I would happily have paid extra for another vegan sausage. Maybe an option on the menu for an extra sausage would be a good idea? Otherwise the food was delicious, the staff lovely and I would definately recommend it as a great place to eat at for breakfast or lunch in Newton Abbot!

When it arrived I was upset to see it had butter on the sandwich. I asked the person on the till to be told it would have butter as it us on the ordinary menu as well. I stated it had been ordered off the vegan menu to be told I should have made this clear at the till. To be fair, this has never happened before. Normally they ask if I want any spread. Why would anyone, vegan or not, need any spread on a hummous sandwich?I won't be going again for a while but will definitely check, and double check in future.

I went to the cafe with my friend for a coup of tea and lunch.I ordered 'spicy parsnip and potatoes soup.'As soon as I had a mouthful of the soup, I tasted 'curry' rather than what I expected to be 'spicy' - like peppers.I asked to a waitress if possible to replace this soup as it is curried rather than spicy. She said that there is one kind or soup in the kitchen so will ask in the kitchen. When she came back, she told me that 'tomatoes and lentil soup with cumin, is available. I declined the offer as I cannot take tomato based soup due to the acidity (and also cumin will give curried taste again!)I asked if possible to have something else. She said she will ask. When she came back, I was told that I can have anything but if the replacement order is more expensive than the soup, I will have to pay the difference.I order egg mayo sandwiches with salad garnish. When the sandwiches arrived, there was not salad garnish! Also, I wasn't offered the difference in the price as the sandwiches is cheaper than the soup. Also, there was no apology at all.My friend ordered pasty, which was rock hard and she couldn't each much of it.It was worst ever experience I ever had form visiting a cafe.

They were able to supply the answers I needed. There is a full gluten free menu and Vegan menu too, with good honest (nothing fancy), food. Lots of gluten free cake options but displayed in an open cabinet, which is not ideal for avoiding cross contamination (essential for coeliac/food allergy customers). Same regarding the salad.Lots of seating available and a smaller version of the same cafe (but more contemporary style) can be found in the local library (what a great idea). Clearly very popular with the locals, so to get a seat, get in early! There are two toilets, but they are a little cramped and could do with a bit of a spruce up!

Visited yesterday with friends. Was very busy when we arrived so we found a table & looked at the menu to decide what we were having. Went to the counter where we were served quickly & efficiently. There was a glass cabinet displaying cakes for sale which were healthy options stating that some were gluten free etc. There was also a display of some of the items on the menu which included the specials for that day. After returning to our table we did not have to wait long for our food to be brought to us. It was all nicely cooked & presented well. The staff were polite & helpful at all times. Although it was a busy time of the day all used dishes were cleared away quickly & tables cleaned ready for the next customers. Would definitely go there again

Went to Country Table at Newton Abbot Hospital. Spent over £15 on lunch and when I asked for a jug of hot water to weaken tea I was charged 50p. Staff seemed reluctant to give it at all. Never have been charged for hot water in any cafe ever before. Tea also expensive. Some staff also surly and unfriendly. Won't go back.

I recommended Country Table to my family for my 'Birthday treat' having been there before and been very pleased. This time I was very disappointed and won't be coming back again. The homity pie, which was meant to be lunch, was honestly the size you'd expect a small dessert to be, and I felt really bad that I'd suggested it.My Dad ended up with just this tiny little pie and a side salad for what was meant to be his main meal. The bowl given for a salad (also bought as a main meal) was the size you'd put your rice crispies in.We're not even 'big eaters' but the portions were so small that I honestly wish we'd gone elsewhere. For the sake of a few pence in extra ingredients (and especially as homity pie is mainly just potato) they could have made us feel welcome and valued, but we actually felt ripped off and cheated.

This is a great gem we have now come to adore & have made our regular family place to go for mid morning coffee/cakes & early lunch. We have ditched the high street coffee chains for this lovely homemade local cafe who make AMAZING soya latte's & the best savoury cream tea around, which contains a homemade cheese scone & even a pot of homemade sweet onion chutney(which looks just like jam!) & a very yummy cream cheese(which looks just like clotted cream!)!!! ......The prices on the extensive menu is high but all worth it for the taste. The funny frustrating thing we find confusing, is that they don't have a 'cream tea' on the menu!! i.e a sweet scone with jam & clotted cream!? Strange when they go out their way to invent a savoury cream tea but don't offer the original one!? They have homemade sweet scones all day long & also offer jam but we ask over & over again but they do not offer a sweet cream tea!! They say that we can have a sweet scone with jam & butter!? but really not the same, is it!?!? We just stick to the savoury one but not always what we feel like??

We visited Newton Abbot and came across the restaurant quite by chance it was very busy but there was a good atmosphere and staff were very friendly every where was clean and the food was fresh, hot and well presented it was also a good cup of tea not the usual hot water with hardly any taste we frequently get offered it is on the level with good access for any one who is not able to get around easily well worth a visit.

Found the service very good but very expensive £4.50 for a cheese sandwich £4.50 for an egg sandwich Nearly £4.00 for a pasty that had been reheated over and over. Why charge such high prices

Sorry but worst veggie breakfast I've ever encountered. Veg Sausage appeared to have been microwaved for seconds, tomatoes barely grilled, and expensive for such a small amount

This café has been in business many years and serves home cooked food using locally sourced ingredients. I always use this cafe when shopping in Newton Abbot or meeting friends. I think the food is mainly vegetarian. Their cakes are delicious and they still serve filter coffee which is great for anyone who doesn't want to wait ages for a barista produced coffee (though they do that as well). There are some comfy sofas at the back of the café and plenty of other seating. They have a loyalty card scheme and magazines and newspapers for customers. The staff are very friendly. Food and drinks are well priced. They have a branch in the nearby public library as well as the premises on Bank Street.

I have lived in Newton Abbot for 50 plus years and have walked by this cafe to many times to count, this was the first time i have something to eat here, looking at the menu for a snack, i was going for a tea cake, but waiting to be served, i changed my mind at the last minute and went for an omelette, i was not disappointed, even though busy on a glorius sunny Monday lunchtime we did not have to wait long, the omelette duely arrived along with the salad i was talked into, and it was delicious, even my son was impressed and said it was cooked perfectly, will definitely be going, back.

I arranged to meet a friend, and fellow coeliac, for breakfast on Saturday morning. We perused the extensive gluten free menu, bith deciding on the standard cooked breakfast. I am fussy about how my eggs are cooked, but mine was done to perfection, just as I'd requested. The sausage was delicious and meaty, everything was so tasty and the perfect amount on the plate. My only slight criticism was the toast : I'm not a huge gluten free bread fan and tend to avoid it, but had a slice of white toast, it was not to my taste, almost having a chemical kind of aftertaste, but as I've already mentioned, I'm not a huge gf bread fan anyway, and there was ample breakfast to not need worry about it. I will definitely be returning again for a breakfast !!

Stopped for lunch after walking from Lustleigh with a friend on Tuesday 26/3. She had a tasty baguette and I had the most delicious cheesy chips. The service was great, the atmosphere was warm and cosy and the waitress was so welcoming. The cakes looked amazing too. We're planning a return visit soon
