The Counting House in Glasgow City

Noisy. The curry was very nice but the nam was over heated and hard. The base of the lasagna was overcooked and hard. But still tasty. Would still go back.

Brilliant place, sat outside in the sun, cold cider, people watching. Fantastic.

The Counting House is a classic Wetherspoons spot in the heart of Glasgow. Spacious, affordable, and always buzzing with energy. Great place for a casual pint or a budget-friendly meal in a historic setting. Can’t go wrong here!

Decent food and drink staff were gd but was waisted with celtic fans too drunk for a family aimed place

It is a spoon on a nice building. That is all there is about it.

Waited for nearly 30 minutes for drinks ordered on the app when waiting time stated 10 minutes , had to speak to staff twice before any action was taken.

For a Monday visit i doubt there was a busier pub/eatery anywhere near the mark.The beer garden was always changing and always full but 1 word of caution....Pigeons!!!! They didn't bother me but a few girls weren't happy with their attention but that being said you could eat inside.

Food was like cheap pub food . They have a large selection of drinks. You have to order off the app or at the bar. The building makes it difficult to get online

Surprisingly we got a table and service was good

Table of 6, rapid arrival of dishes and drinks (even if delayed), except for one person: 1 hour to serve an incomplete dish, fish and chips and be told that "mistakes happen" and that there will be no commercial gesture. It's very average.

Busy but great service and friendly staff plenty choice of drinks and good prices.

It was full of tourists and although I had to wait much longer than usual,it was worth it to watch the barmaid deal with a group of tourists. She managed to converse with them in German and deal well with, what seemed like,a huge order. Well done.

Absolutely disgusted today. Went for a quick lunch with my family, there was flies everywhere all over the tables, flying around our food and drinks which put us off eating our meal. Mentioned to a staff member that wasn't too fussed. Just said sorry about that. Another waitress came over with our drinks and spilled the pint over the table and seats didn't bother cleaning it up, I had to clean it all with our napkins. So disappointed. Stacks of dirty glasses piled high, tables not cleaned. Great cocktails, food is ok- you get what you pay for. This is extremely busy at weekends, no music playing but it is very loud with all the talking and people talking over eachother. During the week it can be busy but easy enough to get a table for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just drinks with friends. As with most Wetherspoons the toilets are down stairs and is a bit of a pain to get to. Would not recommend this place to anyone after that experience. Disgusting isn't the word.

Great food right in the middle of town

Popped in here for a late bite to eat food was lovely large mixed grill and drink for less than £20 was fresh and tasty, very busy pub even for a Wednesday, as the night went on though took longer to be served at bar, maybe more staff needed, the staff were all so polite and kind even had one barmaid watch my stuff while at toilet as she didn't want it stolen and I didnt even ask her too, and some random lovely guy bought me a drink only spoke to him for like two mins, that's why love Glasgow and the people of Glasgow definitely recommend this pub 5* all day long.

En cambio, me dijeron que trajera mi pasaporte, lo cual es completamente irrazonable: nadie lleva su pasaporte para una visita casual a un pub. Peor aún, la forma en que el personal me trató se sintió discriminatoria y racista. Se me habló de manera diferente, injustamente dirigida, y finalmente se me negó la entrada sin razón válida. Fue una experiencia humillante, y me hizo sentir completamente inoportuna. Esperaba mucho mejor de un lugar como Wetherspoon, pero lamentablemente, no se lo recomendaría a nadie después de lo que pasé.

I had a very upsetting experience at Wetherspoon. I was stopped at the entrance for an ID check, and when I showed my valid student ID, it was refused. Instead, I was told to bring my passport, which is completely unreasonable — no one carries their passport for a casual visit to a pub. Worse, the way the staff treated me felt discriminatory and racist. I was spoken to differently, unfairly targeted, and ultimately denied entry for no valid reason. It was a humiliating experience, and it made me feel completely unwelcome. I expected much better from a place like Wetherspoon, but sadly, I would not recommend it to anyone after what I went through.

Just had the worst ever meal in a pub. The mixed grill was totally dried out and almost cold. Disgusting 🫣

I had been to several Wetherspoon's in London on previous trips before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I went because I thought that among all the options they offer, I would find something that I could eat, but it has been a real drama to be able to eat gluten free. I consider that a chain of this size must be prepared and offer dishes that are really available in all restaurants and also raise awareness among their workers. It has been a frustrating experience, since from the beginning I was told that there is a tablet/screen to check allergies. After fighting with the machine for a while, and filtering the dishes, I decide what I want. The surprise was that when I went to the bar, the guy told me that there wasn't what I asked for and to look it up on the tablet. I tell him that I've already done it and he tells me that they don't make this dish (chicken with mashed potatoes), I look at the tablet again and the same thing happens, that they don't have the dish... and so on, up to 4 times, with the account open and not being able to serve other people. I ended up eating a steak and a salad (4 leaves). It has been a frustrating experience, as the waiter was not accommodating either, quite the opposite. I hope they have more consideration for the future, and more so for a chain as big as it is.

Great spoons, we did a mystery trail type thing which ends here. Spoilers if you do it..... it ends in the old bank vaults, really unique.

As expected with a match at Hampden and the Easter weekend the place was very busy. However, we got served fairly quickly from a good range of ales.

I’ve been few times nice atmosphere! I was going yesterday at around 6pm i go to the front door and they asked me for id i showed them my id and a Scottish guy he is the supervisor told me we can’t accept this id’s anymore cos that was a Albanian id i go other i go back dor he told them about me they said no as well i ask them why they said u not proving id i show to them my id as well they said your ok your id is legit they brought someone else he said the same he spoke with that guy on the radio and he changed and said u not going in tonight. Every other’s at the doors said u are right only that racist one said we don’t accept these id’s anymore! Racist!

Had breakfast today in the Counting House. Usually the breakfast is good and well cooked. However this morning was a different story. Poor quality and cold. Hopefully it was a one off, as I am usually very happy In aWeatherspoon.

Seamos realistas, vamos a cucharas por los precios no por el ambiente. Esto estaba bien, tus cucharas promedio con una clientela variada. He estado en peores condiciones pero por alguna razón sentí que tenía que mover mi cartera a mi bolsillo interior. ¡No es culpa de los establecimientos! El servicio era lento, pero estaba ocupado. Sin duda volvería, ¿dónde se puede conseguir una pinta por menos de £ 2.

Good pint, but service getting worse, waiting at the bar to get served, sometimes up to 5 staff at the bar not serving. It's as if they don't want to serve you ? What's going on management?

I love getting a Wetherspoons breakfast. And this was a particularly nice Wetherspoons. Friendly service and did not smell like last night's beer. Great price.

My mate and I came here for lunch during our weekend in Glasgow. I had the boneless basket with chips and coleslaw. My chicken strips were cooked well and the chips were ok. My mate had a chicken burger which was burnt and he didnt eat much off. Ive eaten at plenty of spoons and its usually pretty good for the price. This was very average but properly down to a busy saturday and good needing to be churned out. Staff were friendly and its quite a nice looking spoons. Would stick to just drinks if i came here again

I am not sure, but I think I got racial profiling. They ask for our ID, we don’t bring our passport around. To be honest who does. We tried to show them our University card which also have of Date of birth. But they just said stop and not ordering alcohol. At this point, we have no choice but to leave. Can someone confirm me on this?

Just returned from lunch at The Counting House - Absolutely appalled at the level of service. Ok food, but asked a passing waitress for some straws to go with our drinks (which we had already asked for on the app when ordering) - she pulled a snarky face and rolled her eyes. Not a huge ask, such a shame she seemed to deem this an out of order request. Straws never came of course. Not to mention in this past week, we have spent a lot of money at this establishment, especially with the weather being so nice. Won't be returning. Visited on 11.4.25.

Place with beautiful architecture. Food at a good price. I didn't order a proper dish.

An App must be loaded first in order to get food or drink, didn't care for this. Extremely crowded, extremely noisy, food appeared average....not my idea of,relaxing meal, no thanks.

Absolutely beautiful building, one of the nicest interiors of a 'spoons I've ever seen. Usual mixed weatherspoons crowd of all types of folk. Staff not particularly attentive , two lasses behind bar carried on a conversation for a good minute before serving me despite me standing there, while another was on her phone. Food standard weatherspoons fare. Least toilets were fairly near to bar and of a decent standard. Let's face it people come here for cheap beer!

Food was served cold and when I asked if I could swap it I was met with severe attitude. Told I was delaying other customers. I asked to speak to the manager and was told a manager would be in tomorrow. If I want to speak to them I’d have to come back then. I’m disgusted with the service I’ve received. I’ve never had this experience at a Wetherspoon before and safe to say I’ll never return to this one again. Didn’t get the name of the server but maybe you should get a different job if you can’t be kind to customers. What happened to “oh I’m sos sorry let me get the chef to hear that or exchange that for you”?

Arriving in a city and finding a place like this is something unforgettable. I haven't tried the food yet but what does it matter?

Food was good and table service was quick despite being very busy. Ordering through the app makes everything a bit easier and avoids having to battle through the crowds to get served.

Decent pub prices convieniently minutes from the train station.

Absolutely mobbed yesterday, barely any tables, although we expected that as town was busy and the hottest day of the year so far. We found a table eventually and quite happy as we didn't think we would have been so lucky. We ordered 3 meals and although offer came with added drink option, because we didn't say with drinks, we didn't get drinks. After food order was given, we asked to add drinks, the girl at bar said she couldn't add drinks, despite we hadn't paid yet💩, she could have added drinks. Food wasn't that great to be honest, I went to 3 condiment stations for salt and couldn't find any, when I asked a staff member I was told to try yet another station and didn't find any. I took my daughter to the ladies and when we reached top of stairs (on way out of toilet) there is a door at the top stair on the left hand side: the smell of cigarette smoke was disgusting. I felt as though I had smoked 20 fags one after another. A few weeks later I tried going for food one more time and won't be back. The food was barley warm and tasted crap, again condiment stations empty and flies yes, loads of flies landing on our table and surrounding tables, final straw when one landed on my plate.

I have been in dozens of spoons in my time but this on for me has the best and I do mean the best atmosphere that I haven't seen in pubs since the 1980's

Vengo a por comida y algunas bebidas. La comida era buena como el estándar esperado al igual que las bebidas, pero Aidan C era excepcionalmente gran servicio a las 10 pm, muy tentativo.

Esperé en el bar por más de 15 minutos para ser servido. Constantemente ignorado por el personal ignorante del bar. Dos estaban a solo 3 a 4 metros de distancia y se pararon hablando entre sí. Habló con un funcionario sobre el servicio, su respuesta fue ignorante. Primera y última vez en el lugar, después de que le dijeron un buen lugar para ir. La hora fue justo después de las 4. 00 pm.

Awful,service slow ,not enough people on bar , it was my sons birthday, he had the not so cheap burger ,approximately £11, over that ,I had a double six ounce burger , the cardboard menu would have had more flavour,just tasteless, over cooked ,very Disappointed ,it was for my son ,who never gets out much ,so it was a treat fir him ,won’t be back in there again😥

Usually we love this spoons it’s great, spacious and it has a lovely look to it. However yesterday we were targeted again by this same man who had kicked one of my friends out merely for saying how Glaswegian his accent was. This man called us aggressive even to the girls who were being calm, he didn’t let me buy a drink as apparently my friends could be being aggressive to his front staff even though when we checked if they were, they were not and even after he acknowledged this he proceeded to kick me out anyways just because “i was with them”. He had glasses, a scruffy brown beard and skinny look, one of the bouncers.

This spot is usually great however yesterday I witnessed some women of colour being seemingly racially profiled by this bouncer and it seemed he just did not want them there and was picking on everything they were doing even to the ladies who were a bit more calm then their friends, there was this one girl I witnessed speaking so calmly to this bouncer however he already had his mind set on kicking her out. It was sad to see as this is a great place for drinks and people to have fun and be free.

Typical large, city centre Wetherspoons. Huge place, very quiet when I was in for breakfast, guy serving was friendly and food came out quickly and was hot, good value

My two friends and I all in our fifties went here 24/02/25 and because we were laughing 3 different staff members told us we had to leave one young female manager was the worse she said we were laughing at a group of girls which was a lie.The woke culture has taken over.we will never be back here again

Nice wethers good atmosphere but great service

Busy, busy, and it's huge. Originally a financial institution, hence the name, now re-purposed as a pub. Look up and around if you visit as there is more to this building than just a place to drink and eat to your hearts content. There is a wealth of history on the walls, denoting its former barbaric part in the transatlantic slave trade, which the Scottish seem to be oblivious to and proud, to display the misery that it suported.. I went in as a teatoteller for a ganda and was saddened that a place of such historic resonance was now just a watering hole for the locals and tourists. It's disappointing and sad, but this is the world we live in, we're no one wants to pause and take ownership for a history and wealth fueled by cruelty, torture, and enslavement.

Very quick service considering how busy they were

Order conveniently via the app instead of waiting forever for the waiter, unfortunately often very overcrowded and prices are quite high. Still a recommendation to make a quick pint stop right next to George Square.

After years of coming here but then seeing how bad their service got decided to not come for a while. This year I decided to come here to show our foreign friends the local atmosphere and the waitresses were just rude and disrespectful. Never coming here again. An absolute disgrace how we were handled during the whole time. Shame.
